Reviews for Marina Fonatur - La Paz
Nice Government Run Marina, 2015-12-23
Captain: , San Diego, CA (1239)

The guide books for this marina say the channel is not well marked, but that is not the case. THe channel is well marked and lit at night. We had 10 feet all the way in approaching at low tide. be careful at the entrance from the main channel to the channel approaching the marina, it is very narrow, maybe 20-25 feet wide.

We stayed here three nights in December 2015. The rates were very reasonable, about 15 dollars a night for a 41' boat with a peso to USD exchange rate of 16.5 pesos to the dollar. This is a Mexican Government run marina so everything is done in pesos. Nice clean showers, small docks, friendly staff.
We arrived on a Sunday and couldn't get a slip until Monday and had to stay on the launch ramp without power/water.
You can have purified water delivered.
We rented a car from the airport and it was a 250 peso taxi ride away. For a car rental I should have rented from downtown La Paz and ridden the bus for 10 pesos. You can catch the Colectivo bus #4 up on the main street by the hotel/gas station/dentist.

We would stay here again if we need a dock to work on boat projects.

Quiet, no frills., 2015-01-09

Decent place, has a shower, bathrooms, laundry, and not much else. Very close to Walmart, but far from the fun parts of La Paz.

Update to Marina Fonatur, 2013-12-10
Captain: , Olympia, WA (461)

Not as bad as others have said. Getting in is well marked and is 12 feet deep in the channel between the well marked buoys. The water is %u2018City Water%u2019. After my testing the water was sitting 6 hours, with a microscope, I found it very clean. It is actually cleaner than some places in the states. I filtered it through a charcoal filter prior to putting it in my tank. Then I have a charcoal filter between the tank and the pump. I also added bleach to the mix to kill anything anyway just for good measure. The finger piers are narrow and the folks here are great. Wi-Fi is free, and a good signal at the dock. The gates to the docks are locked and the Marina entrance and boatyard have actual walking cognoscente guards 24-7. The 2 lovely ladies, Susanna and Wendy are exceptionally friendly, courteous and helpful. Juan and Hector are the %u2018Dock Hands%u2019. They are very willing help to anyone who needs it. Not all the shore power points work, but there were a few empty receptacles available. It is 2/3rds the price of the %u2018Downtown%u2019 marinas and much quieter. Walmart, Home Depot, Sorianna, and a lot of shopping areas are within 1 mile walk from the dock. There is a great restaurant grill just outside the marina and on the main drag. Well worth the price for the huge portions of food that they serve.

No Security, 2012-06-16
Captain: , Newport, RI (10275)

We had planned on storing our boat here on the hard, but decided not to after being warned that lots of things have walked from boats stored there.

When we checked it out ourselves, we found a ghost town with no one there and no visible security. We were able to wander around the dry storage yard without seeing anyone and there is no gate to keep anyone out.

There's no lock on the gate to the docks. When we wandered through the docks, it appeared that only 1-2 of the boats had people living on them and the rest were storage. Kinda spooky.

Note that there is also a bar located at the marina, so I can only guess that drunk patrons are wandering around the facility.
