Reviews for Marina Del Ray
Much improved, 2017-06-16

This place is much improved, especially the new floating piers against the western bank. Easy access to your car and vessel. Floating covered piers provide welcome shade. Rode out Katrina here with no problem. Glad to be back.

Nothing Fancy, but comfy, 2017-02-01

We, my wife and I, stayed here for quite a while. Kyle and the rest of the crew are really nice people and easy to work with. The, on property, restaurant was reasonable priced and the food was great. The only negative was the docks which are in poor condition. They are working on them. Madisonville is a nice little town.

We stopped here only to use the pumpout, for a hefty $10. The docks were in terrible condition, and the pumpout hose is so short as to be almost unusable. We had to hang our bow over the dock just inches from the fuel dispenser and heave on the hose the entire time. Based on what I saw I would hesitate to stay here.

Physican and personnel improvements have made this a great marina to spend some time. Really close by Hooked Up Bar and Grill are real handy. I love to bring the grand kids to enjoy the marina pool and there are even several slots now for motor home hook ups. Madisonville is a great little community very close by.

Find somewhere else! If you decide to stay despite the state of disrepair, keep copies of your agreement and receipts... Caveat Emptor

Hard to descrie, 2014-04-29
Captain: , Clemson, SC (71)

Previous reviews are correct, except it is hard to describe something that bad. They charged double the contract, $2 per foot and said the rate went up. We only stayed one night to get showers. Got an invoice from them yesterday, a month later for $130. Docks are falling apart.
The restaurant is just a local bar. There wa one person at each table. We walked out. Zero stars

No live aboards. Harbor master can't figure out his job. I got an eviction notice because he lost my paperwork, didn't remember me, and then tried to charge me another month and deposit! (good thing I keep my reciepts) facilities are clean, but falling apart. good resturant/bar. I caught the owner staring at me through my port. NOT nice people, talk down to you, and generally act as if you should feel privlidged to be in their presence.

Keep the restaurant burn the marina

(second update) Got home, and did my usual diving the boat maintenance. Found some electrolysis on the prop which was nearest the dock, and accelerated wear on zincs. Suspect stray current at this marina, since I docked nowhere else but home.

(update 2013, docking Catana 40S catamaran): The place is fairly sketch, but the rates aren't high for transients ($1/ft w/power, .50/ft without). MDR must be sturdier than it appears, for all the locals assure us that the place is a good hurricane hole. There aren't dock carts: bring your own. The Hook'd Up restaurant had good drinks, good food and damn good band

(2011, launching F-27 trimaran): With some trepidation after reading the other reviews, we launched here for the Wooden Boat Show (2011). For my part, I found folks here to be super nice and quite accommodating. We reserved two parking spots and only used one (paid ahead) and the dockmistress was quite insistent that we get extra ice/whatever to make up for the already-paid unused parking spot. That was sure decent in my book. The launch isn't the greatest but I've been to far worse, and the rest of the place seemed to be in decent nick, bathrooms were clean.

Continued deterioration, 2013-01-08
Captain: , Louisiana (554)

Marina suffered further damage from Hurricane Issac in Aug 2012, which seems to have not been addressed. Some liveaboards, but only because of the low rates. As one liveaboard put it: "I've been at this marina 20 years, and it has gone downhill every year" He stays there because he works offshore & is only on his boat part time.

Very poorly maintained, safety hazards everywhere.., 2010-08-23
Captain: , Madisonville,LA (76)

Electrical boxes falling down, docks sinking, trip hazards throughout, overall, a real dump. I haven't seen a marina in worse condition on the gulf coast. Ownership does find time to send our newsletter each month to complain about how customers don't follow the rules.... a very unpleasant place to stay.

On the positive side, there are a few nice restaurants nearby and virtually everyone rode out Katrina without any problems.

Below Average Marina, 2008-11-16
Captain: , Madisonville (87)

Fuel prices are outrageous and quality of slips and services are way below average. Check electrical current in water near your boat or consider buying stock in lead.

Floating piers, maintenance is neglected, pump out station needs work
