Pump out

Yes - Three or four collection areas.

Yes - Shared male/female with individual lockable cubicles. Water is hot and lots of it. Very clean - mopped out several times a day.

Yes - Shared male/female. Cleaned regularly.

Yes - Laundry in the marina, not self serve but relatively cheap - about $8 US for a load washed, dried, folded, 2012.

Yes - Small but well stocked supermarket in the marina, larger supermarkets up in town about a 15 minute walk away.

Yes - Many small hardware stores. One or two larger than the others and staff are quite knowledgeable even though there is a language issue at times.

Yes - Not flaunted as this is an Islamic country but beer and wine freely available, just not advertised.

Hotels or motels

Repair capabilities

Yes - Most services available. Chandler is limited in range but can get stuff in.
Mohamed's boat yard lifts and paints, etc.

French chappie, Fabreze, on Dock 4, "Last Lover", no mast, is available for repair work - quite competent man. February 2013.

Haul out capabilities

Yes - Limited hard stand space but lift is easy to organise and access.

Storage facilities

Yes - Many boats are left over the winter. Limited space on the hard but there is usually a spot in the marina. You can organise for a local to come and run your motor, check bilges, etc. for very llittle outlay.

Fishing supplies

Yes - A couple of fishing tackle shops in town.

Chartering capabilities

Yes - Tourist boats (replicas pirate boats) and dive boats are based here.

Internet access

Yes - 3G quite strong, WiFi not available from the marina but most of the restaurants lining the marina have free WiFi.

Espace Informatique & GSM or The Orange store at Bab Brickcha can give you both WiFi dongles and access and a 3G SD for either Android or iPad - iPads aren't sold in Tunisia so many operators struggle with kitting them but this Orange is OK. Ask for Fatma - she's the lady who looks like she's in charge and she's very competent. Left at the first open circle past the mosque, just before the gate out of the Medina (Bab). Don't go to Telecom Tunisie for iPad 3Gs, they simply cut down an SD card and then can't make it work properly on their network. February 2013.

Boat ramp availability

Yes - Train, taxis, local buses. Train from Monastir to Sousee, 1/2 hour away, costs only 1TD or .62c one way. Taxis are relatively cheap but they are the same as taxis the world over - will try to not put the meter on then charge you a tourist price. Also might try to get you to go to a "Government shop, fixed price", neither of which are true.

Other services

Canvas work - repairs, additions, biminis, enclosures etc.
Rafik 24 944 042. Only speaks French and Arabic but quick and capable. Easy to make yourself understood with gestures or get one of the French/English people around to translate. Knows his business well and does a good job for very little.

Medical: Good standard with most being trained in France. Dental work is very cheap and normal 1st world quality ($25 for a filling). Dr Kamoun Khelifa, She speaks good English plus French and Arabic.

Graduated lenses + frames cost $230 plus $25 for the eye examination. Again, 1st world standard.

Several ancient Roman and Carthaginian towns nearby e.g. El Jem.

Reviews for Marina Cap Monastir
great place to spend the winter, 2015-04-07
Captain: , Osterville MA (10)

I was concerned about security and safety at first but it turns out to be safe and secure. interesting place to visit with a nice mix of tourism and native culture. prices are quite good. ask around for services, the French will know the best ones. get a recommendation for who to use first. Medical care is easy to access, higher quality and very inexpensive. local wine and beer is available but I recommend you bring your own favorite wine and spirits. Also there is no pork here so bring your own bacon. Visa is for thirty days so plan to be able to leave and come back now and again. flights are on the expensive side inMonastir so plan to go to Tunis airport.

Winter 2012/2013., 2013-03-29
Captain: , Fremantle, West Australia (1448)

Interesting stay. Good city with further access up to Tunis in need. Marina staff are all excellent. Prices very reasonable, particularly for long term. Docking assistance is quick, ujsually Edy, Majoob's offsider. Security on 4 or 5 points, 24hr.

If you need a visa, dealing with the police in the marina can be difficult as they seem to make up the fee. Dealing with the Senior people out in Skanes is much more professional.

Very cheap wintering place, 2012-04-25
Captain: , Hannover (73)

Nice people, very cheap place, anything a sailor needs available.
Not so much tourists, calm and beautifull for wintering.
As of March 2012.
