Reviews for Marina Bas-du-Fort
Good Refit Point Before Continuing South, 2016-06-20
Captain: , Wilmington NC (120)

We have stayed at this facility twice now (early June 2016), both for multiple nights. All slips are med-moor. However, this can be a good place to %u2018hone your technique%u2019 for med-mooring, as both Jean-Marc and Christian (both still on the staff) are very accommodating and meet you upon your entrance to the marina proper. Marina facilities were good and customs computers are present inside the office. The price was excellent (1%u20AC per foot during our stays for a catamaran) and included water and electricity. We had read the previous reviews about the electricity, but our Blue Sea built in multi-meter showed the 220v, 60hz, 50a power to be just fine. We had no electrical issues during our stay. Note; there is not a US-style plug at every pedestal, so plan accordingly or perhaps tell them in advance what you need. Marina office allowed us to have mail sent ahead of our second visit (very helpful). There is still an intermittent smell of refuse/garbage/sewage in all of Lagoon Bleu. The smell is stronger at the shoreline. Observations of this issue are that the entire lagoon has a problem with congested, minimal oversight, urban sprawl. Firmly believe that the origin is not the marina. Although this can be an issue for some, we never saw raw sewage, and the nuisance smells were minor during our stays. Security was typical: magnetic key to enter finger docks and restrooms. Did not see much %u2018unauthorized%u2019 traffic and did not feel security was a big issue during our stays. We did not use the showers or the laundry machines. Docks are built very robustly and were in better than average condition. The docks had too many old cigarette butts crammed into board cracks (it is a French place%u2026) and for a non-smoker this is not appealing. Local shopping (by foot) is available and expensive. There are three average chandleries within walking distance.

Stayed here a couple of nights. Jean-Marc was extremely helpful getting us onto the med moring. Facilities were good and price was reasonable. Had to run the generator for power though because the US 50 amp is incorrectly phased. For some reason marina manager insists that the solution is for the boater to rewire his boat. Didn't have a problem before or afterward connecting to shore power so I am still puzzled. Overall a minor inconvienience but if you need power avoid mooring across from the fuel dock you might have better luck elsewhere. Internet was free and pretty good most of the time. Beautiful location.

We used this location as a drop off and pickup port over the Christmas holidays. Jon-Mark is one of the marina boat /dock experts who is excellent in assisting you with all your needs. Power and water were no issue, with everything operational. Free open WiFii. Lots of great restaurants and a good grocery store. I also recommend a fantastic "Masseur/Kinesitherapeute" named Martol Marvyn. He's a sports therapist that can fix you up if you need deep tissue massage and/or adjustment manipulation. (Jon-Mark can arrange the appointment for you)

Great Facility and Services, 2016-01-09

This is clearly a marine center in the Caribbean where you can get anything fixed or repaired. The entry into the harbor is interesting with plenty of water, although the authorities seem to like to move the buoys every year to confuse us. Old charts will not be correct. The marina has alot of mediterranean style slips. Be prepared for a tight parking space with bumpers on either side and an audience to critique your boat handling. We passed muster, but others didn't. Checkin is at the marina office and it's pretty easy. We had a good experience, but the French definitely merely tolerate us Americans. I can say that no one was actually welcoming, but maybe that's just the way it is. Despite the shopping and restaurants at the Marina, the closest ATM is over a half hour away downtown, very strange. There is an excellent choice of restaurants, just remember that the French don't eat dinner until it's almost tomorrow.

Good base to see Guadeloupe, 2015-03-03
Captain: , New York (483)

Spending 2 weeks here as we had to fly back to the US for a few days. Marina staff very friendly (they speak very good English). Electric on dock is questionable. We had to wire or reefer directly to the shore power, otherwise the dock breaker tripped. Internet is fair. Docke rate is low! Rent a care as there is much to see in Guadeloupe and this is a good base to see both parts.

Un-inviting aroma, 2013-09-05

Service was good & friendly. Security was questionable...reports of numerous break ins. Water was literal sewer; marina was a ripe unflushed toilet bowl. Will never return.

Sticker Shock, 2013-03-20

Pros: A very nice full service marina including a "technical area" that could most likley fix anything broken on your boat. The people are niceand very helpful.
1) Everthing (except for wine and rum) is very expensive with the exception of the dockage. Smokes 9 USD per pack. Pizza 15 USD, Beer 5 USD, my average dinner bill for two was 75 USD
2) Rats and cockroaches on shore, concern about getting cockroaches on boat.
3) No hot water in the marina showers

Marina Bas du Fort at Pointe-A-Pitre, 2013-01-30
Captain: , Washington, DC (840)

Power on the visitor%u2019s dock is a little sketchy. Not all poles have all options so you may have to stretch a cord to find what you need. The Internet was very frustrating. There seemed to be a bandwidth problem, and your ability to stay online was determined by your neighbor making a Skype call. Water is via a quick connect fitting available for $3 euro from the marina. Restaurants and stores adjacent to the marina were fun to explore. It took us a couple of tries, but we finally found the good ones. The bathrooms were very high tech European. Pointe-a-Pitre is a 30 minute walk or 10 minute bike ride away. Unfortunately, you get to see the not-so-good part of town on the way. While interesting, we did not find much there to warrant a second visit.

Great place to stay. Custom clearance is easy, use computer at the office (no charge to ck in to Guadeloupe). The transient dock is next to the marina office, stern to docking with a forward line to a buoy (they will come out in a dinghy and help you buoy line and then the aft lines) Make sure you have a long bow line (200%u2019 or more). Duty free fuel. Water, electric ( 50 and 60 cycle) 220/110. Some 380volt 150 amp if you need it. Restaurants, shops, ATM etc all within a short walk. Off season less than $1.00/foot
