Reviews for Mansion Marina
This a little late, 2016-02-10
Captain: , Sandusky Oh (615)

We were here the end of September with a tropical storm off the coast bringing rough weather to N.Y.
We looked for a protected harbor, it would be hard to find one any better than Great Kills. We had been he a couple of times before and always came to Mansion Marina, so we were familiar with the ways of the Marina. It has always been casual
In it's service to transients and it was so today.
We waited on the gas dock for an hour. That was ok for we got our water tanks filled, and washed the decks down. The fuel attendant came out and fueled us up and told us that we could stay on the fuel dock for the night.
The next day we took a dock facing the gale winds do to arrive tonight. We had a very experienced yard man and two other helpers as well get into a very tight slip with their help.
We just had to do it on their time for they were very busy getting their year around customers boats out of the water.
We rate this Marina very high, but just know that they service their year around customers first.

Brief visit, owner took care of our needs, we will stay here again in the spring

Rude and not as advertised, 2015-10-05
Captain: , Hingham, MA (1068)

1) Had a reservation - upon arrival we had to wait at the fuel dock for almost two hours as no one answered our hails or phone calls and no one was at the marina once we docked to look for help (this was mid-day on a Tuesday). 2) NO HOT WATER! when I asked Ed (the owner) if there was a shower with hot water his response to me was 'don't you have hot water on your boat' and 'go ahead in the shower with your husband and that will get the water hot'. Apparently, they do not have natural gas running to the facility since Superstorm Sandy (note - two years ago) so there is NO HOT WATER at this facility. 3) Price per foot on the website is not what is being charged - upon questioning this, Ed advised us that he did not have time to update the website. We were charged a flat $75/per night (pretty steep for a 31' boat in fall in the Northeast). After we complained and asked for a weekly rate he knocked $50 off the total. 4) The workers here are not properly trained dockhands and do not know how to handle boats appropriately. 5) the water here is gross - always a sheen of oil in the water and garbage
The only reason I gave this faciity a decent rating is because the dock that we were on was set up well to weather wind and tidal surge (there were pending severe storms over several days- this is the only reason we went to this facility). The facility is in a decently protected harbor with restaurants across the street - groceries and laundry is a short cab ride.

-Nice marina. new bathrooms, docks and fuel dock. Nice people on the dock, very welcoming. Very easy to get into NYC via train and ferry. We went to the 9-11 musem.

Great marina, 2014-11-11

They are still recovering from Sandy but have come a long way. Ed is a great guy and showed us the photos from after the storm. They are almost finished rebuilding and just need to get the fuel flowing again. He was grateful to have us there and we were happy to give him the business. This is a no frills down to earth place. Lots of fisherman and friendly folks around.

This is our second visit to Mansion Marina. The first was in Sept 2013. We have returned because of the service and dedication of the owner, Ed. After being severly battered and partially destroyed by Hurricane Sandy, this marina has rebounded, rebuilt and regrouped under Ed's leadership. We pulled into the dock late last night (7/31/14) and did not have a 50 amp cord. Ed sent a man to our boat with an adaptor and voila, we had power.
Great Kill Harbor, located on the outer NY harbor on the south side of Staten Island is VERY protected from the wind and waves. There are fine restaurants right outside the gates. The staff has been very attentive to our every if you are looking for a "safe haven" stop at Mansion Marina in Great Kill Harbor.
Spindrift from Boston, Go Red Sox!

When neither RCYC or GKYC would answer repeated phone or radio calls, Mansion came through and gave us a t-head. Still rebuilding and no services whatsoever, they were nonetheless very accommodating to get us in. We were happy to pay a transient slip to help iin what little way we could.

Short on service, 2011-07-19
Captain: , Red Lion, DE (712)

Stayed here July 2011 for 4 nights. Personel were not very helpful, nor very congenial. I had to get off of our boat and retrieve the fuel hose and had no help from the dockhand who was sitting on the upper level eating something. The office was closed and locked every time I went there for info. - had to hunt around the marina to find an employee. The marina location is well protected from all but easterly winds - probably the most secure dockage in the Lower Bay area.

Sheltered harbor, good value, 2011-04-20
