Reviews for Man-O-War Marina
Friendly place, 2017-04-28
Captain: , South America (777)

Small but very friendly place. Laundry/dry is $5 each token. Diesel $4.6 per gallon. They have also a small/clean pool and a friendly restaurant.

Decent Stay, 2017-04-04
Captain: , Vero Beach, FL (225)

We called ahead and made a slip reservation and arrived about noon as predicted, but once insde the harbor we could not get a response on VHF CH16 to get a slip assignment. Other boats behind us had a similar experience. After milling about the crowded harbor for 15 min we finally raised the marina and got an assignment on the south dock. Between the wind and tidal current it was a challenging docking evolution, but once in all was fine. The docking assistance we good.
Facilities are good as described in the previous interviews, but based on our experience stqrting 29March17 a few price updates are in order. the slip rate was $!.75/ft/night or $1.55 with the Royal Marsh Harbor Yacht Club discount. Water was metered at $0.22/gal and power was metered at $0.65/KWH. The power seemed a little spiky and tripped our inverter/charger severfal times. WiFi service was good.
Although we did not eat there, we understand the Dock and Dine restaurant now serves alcohol. If you choose to bring your own the setup fee is reportedly $25. The Hibiscus Cafe still allows BYOB witgh no (?) fee.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here and were lucky to be present for the first Man-O-War Boat Builder's Memorial Day on April 1st. MOW has a long history of boat building, and despite the decline in wooden boat orders, theystill have a number of skilled craftsmen repairing wooden boats, and buidling new fiberglass boats. Also worth checking out is Albury Designs, a woodworking shop run by Andy Albury who builds beautiful wooden models of traditional Bahamaian craft.
The island is large enough to get in a healthy walk and the beaches are gorgeous

Small But Friendly, 2017-03-23
Captain: , Hilton Head, SC (1234)

From John on the docks, to Katelyn in the office, everyone was very friendly and helpful here. On site restaurant, Dock n Dine was quite good. Facilities were really nice (shower / bathroom combination only for the marina guests). Mooring field look quite crowded & was happy we weren't out there. Lots of places to walk and explore including the Albury Bros Boatyard.

Lovely Small Marina, 2017-03-18
Captain: , Chicago (410)

We draft 5' so we came in the narrow south entrance at high tide with no issues. We were assigned a side tie on the docks. It was a tricky and very tight approach between the anchor of a large boat on the T head and a sailboat across the water on a dock at an angle. We were then tucked in under the anchor of a large catarmaran. Once tied up just fine. People very friendly. Grounds nice. Town adorable. Had a great lunch at Hibiscus. Had dinner at Dock and Dine after a number of recommendations. Unfortunatley we waited over an hour for our food with 2 small children. They apologized but it was just not worth the wait.

Same dicey exit from the dock the next morning in high winds. Got out safely but wouldn't want to have to do that again.

Very strong WiFi!

Rustic Marina, 2017-03-07
Captain: , Cleveland, Ohio (50)

Jo-Ela, arrived Tues 3/2/2017

Due to wind conditions, we were fortunate to dock parallel on main dock perpendicular to restaurant. Dock attendant helpful. Power at $0.65 per KWH, water at $0.22 per gallon. Marina makes their own water by reverse osmosis. Free cable TV but need a box provided by Marina to connect to TV. Good Wi-Fi. Restaurant at Marina was good. Grocery store within 2 blocks and prices were reasonable. Pet friendly Marina.

Best WiFi in Bahamas , 2017-03-03
Captain: , San Diego (100)

We have been traveling all over the Bahamas and this is the best WiFi by far. Even when we were below in our bedroom we still received service. That being said I do have a few criticisms. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and after hailing the marina several times on the radio and calling by phone we were unable to reach anyone. Finally as we were right in front of the fuel dock I shouted to the attendant and asked where our slip was. He had no idea we were coming in and had to call someone on the phone. He tried to put us in a slip that wasn't deep enough for our draft and after moving two people's skiffs he finally put us on an end tie. He was helpful tying us up, no smiles, very monotone and brought us a shower key. We swam in the pool which was very dirty and the grill and fish cleaning area was very dilapidated and falling apart. The next morning (Monday) we walked to the office to check in. They had us on their board and never mentioned the chaos with docking with the fuel attendant when we arrived. The Dock and Dine restaurant was good. We enjoyed our lunch there. I can see this marina has the potential to be great it just needs a bit of a face lift and something needs to be done about Sunday arrivals.

Excellent Marina, 2016-05-28
Captain: , Calgary (291)

Agree 100% with Tom Casey's review below. We also had the Grilled Conch Dinner and it was the best conch that I ever had. The restaurant also provide the meals as takeouts so you can order the meal and then eat it on your boat if you want

Wonderful Staff and very accomodating, 2016-05-25
Captain: , Marathon, FL (140)

The Marina and staff are fantastic. Tommy at the Marina office can arrange anything for you. The restaurant Dine and Dock is delicious and very flexible. Special orders were handled with ease! The best "grilled conch" dinner with great veggies and plantains. Alvin the waiter is a 5 star gem.

Great laid back island, 2016-04-10
Captain: , Mystic,CT (202)

Staff were helpful, their restaurant has very good food and now sells beer. Island is great to walk aroun and take a dighy ride to low place.

Great stop, 2015-06-11
Captain: , Marco Island, FL (1135)

This is our favorite stop in the Abacos! The marina is nice but showing its age a bit. The people here are just wonderful - friendly and eager to please the marina guests. The Wifi is free and works great and the pool was great. The island is worth the stop. It's just beautiful and clean - the people here take great pride in their island and it shows. Love it here!

Great Marina, 2015-06-08
Captain: , Traverse City, Mi (281)

We never actually stayed at the marina while we were in Man-O-War for a few weeks, but we used the dinghy dock almost daily, had our LP refilled, purchased diesel, did laundry and ate at the restaurant numerous times while we stayed on a mooring. Great staff and a great place!

Nice little marina,beautiful island, 2015-05-19

Stayed here for a week and had a wonderful time.
The marina is nice, decent showers, clean restrooms. Really good wifi at the docks. The restaurant is nice and the food was really good. Overall tye folks were friendly.
We were very impressed with the island, the friendliness of the residence. The ceanliness of the island overall. Just beautiful. We rented a golf cart and explored a bit. Just beautiful.
No liquor stores, no bars and no sigaretts sold on the island. Unusual but I like it.

Quiet and friendly MOW Cay, 2015-01-26
Captain: , St Pete Beach, Florida (278)

We've made several stops here in the past two months. We've been on the Marina's mooring ($20), an unknown mooring (no one stopped by for payment) and a mooring in the south bay ( a cruiser collected the $20 payment). The marina water is excellent and the fuel dock easy to access. Laundry is $5/load but there is no folding table, otherwise clean and wi-fi available. The Dock'n'Dine (closed Sunday) has good meals and friendly service. The Islander serves breakfast (9 am) and lunch and dinner on weekends. Try their johnny cakes.

Walking around town is enjoyable. Easy walk to the Atalntic side, past a graveyard and old homes. Great haircuts by Carmon. Stop by Mr. Albury's wood work shop for an enlightening chat about the history of the Cay. The museum is open on Thursdays and Saturdays. The two grocery stores are great, I prefer the one on the hill. There are two gift shops, one sells hand printed fabric. The Sail Shop is the place to buy canvass bags sewn by residents.

The marina will order bread for delivery to the marina.

There are no bars on the Cay. If you are looking for a quiet respite from the noisy harbors, don't miss MOW Cay.

MOW Marina, 2014-06-20
Captain: , Merritt Island, FL (346)

Unfortunately, only the worst slip in the marina was available, next to the fuel dock. I took it and immediately had second thoughts, but decided to stay one night. Otherwise, the marina is good. The staff did their job, but no smiles. The Internet service is poor. The showers are clean. The pool is nice. The Dock & Dine restruant is not bad. Man-O-War is a unique place in the Abacos, and worth seeing. The marina is a safe enough tie-up.

great protection, clean water., 2014-06-13
Captain: , Phoenix, AZ (960)

Man O War moorings are close. We have a 38 ft. a 40 ft moored on mooring in front. We could almost jump to each other. Very compact area. Nice restaurant and void WiFi in town. Grocery store and souvenir shopping. Cut into harbor close but deep enough at hi tide.

Great Stay, 2014-05-01
Captain: , New Bern, NC (730)

We loved Man-O-War. We stayed on a mooring for 4 nights waiting on weather. The mooring is $20.00/night. We were able to use the pool and also the internet. We thought that the marina internet policy a bit stiff since they only allowed their slip users the access to their wi-fi. They should re-visit that policy since they only have 3 available mooring balls. The Dock & Dine restaurant was great. Two available grocery stores and great beaches to walk on. We will definately come back to this island.

No internet access at mooring balls, 2014-04-05
Captain: , Wilmington, DE (552)

Mooring balls are $20 but do not include access to the marina WiFi which has a strong signal but is "exclusivly for slips". There is an alternate free wifi signal but you have to sit in or next to the office and signal is very weak. This seems a short sighted policy to me because internet access is crucial to most cruisers. We wanted to stay but moved on after one night to Treasure Cay where wifi in mooring area is free and excellent.

Fabulous Place, 2014-03-28
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (991)

Excellent marina with easy access to everything. Tommy and staff are helpful, and the facility is perfect for an out-island.

We will return to spend a week or more here.

Man O War was a great visit!, 2013-12-26
Captain: , New Bern NC (120)

Tommy and Staff provided excellent service during our two day visit. Man O War is a unique little town with their golf cart highways, boat building factory and beautiful beach. Dock and dine restaurant had excellent food and it is located next to the marina. Highly recommend visiting this quaint town.

Continuing good facilities, good service, VERY good restaurant, 2013-12-08
Captain: , Mayport, FL, USA (317)

Good, well run marina, good facilities, easy approach (once inside the harbor) and friendly, helpful staff. Very competitive prices for the area. The Dock and Dine (the latest name) restaurant is small, limited hours, VERY good food. Some of the tenderest and freshest cracked conch ever and Mahi-Mahi beyond good.

Must See In Abaco's, 2013-05-28
Captain: , Amelia Island, FL (115)

Man-O-War Marina has a pleasant and helpful staff and will maike you glad you stopped at Man-O-War Cay. They have mooring balls for $20., but they do not include marina priviledges. The marina is nice and the showers are clean. The Dock & Dine Restaruant on site has excellent food and fair prices. The marina has a pool and the island is a must see on your Abaco trip.

Tough one to Rate, 2013-05-08
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

MOW harbor is so small that they do have mooring balls close together. But, if you want to see MOW, then mooring balls about the only way one can stay here, so it is a Catch 22. We love MOW, so the tight balls is not a big deal for us, since this is what God has provided as a harbor. The marina is acceptable and thier Dick and Dine is fun. We definitely recommend here.

OK Moorings, 2013-04-30
Captain: , Palm Coast, Florida (785)

$20 moorings do not include showers or any other marina facilities. The moorings are too tight. This is a well protected harbor, and if your mooring neighbor doesn't bang into you you will be safe.

Happy on a Mooring, 2012-08-05
Captain: , Here and There (443)

We had our boat here on a mooring over the winter. Our needs, though few, were cheerfully met.

Simply Delightful, 2012-07-07
Captain: , Longboat Key, FL (1029)

Man O War is a delightful, small and quaint island -- You really need to put it on your Abaco cruise plans. MOW Marina is very well run, clean, friendly and enjoyable. The Dock and Dine right on the premises has a limited lunch and dinner menu BUT very good food! The cut into the Cay is narrow but very navigable. Just make sure you go through one boat at a time!

Great harbor & marina, 2012-04-22
Captain: , Marthas Vineyard (506)

Marina is well run and Tommy is very helpful; big clean free showers, a nice pool, gas grill, easy walk around the wonderful village; internet and power metered, water metered. We stayed a few days at the dock quite happily.

Must See Man-O-War, 2012-04-03
Captain: , Central Illinois (527)

Man-O-War Cay is a must see. Quaint, clean, friendly people. Marina staff was very friendly.

Fascinating village, 2011-11-30
Captain: , Nyack, NY (646)

Took a sturdy mooring here to visit this historic shipbuilding settlement. Facilities seem very nice, but moorers are second class citizens here, as the sign and the welcome indicated. Dock and Dine seves a good burger at a fair price.

Wonderful Quiet Place, 2011-07-04
Captain: , Ft. Lauderdale (1134)

MOW is like the Abacos used to be. The harbor is nicely protected from all winds. Waters are crystal clear. You can use your water maker at the dock. Marina has good power and RO water, both metered. Staff is very accomodating, and works hard to make you feel welcome.

Nice walking around the island. Golf carts are the primary motorized transit. Nice beaches on the ocean side with in an easy walk from the marina. Dock & Dine at the head of the pier.

Man O'War Marina, 2011-02-20
Captain: , Mere Point ME (40)

Great place and good facilities. We stayed a month and rates were lower than Marsh Harbor. Marina tenants get free internet, free showers and discounted laundry, so it ends up better than a mooring ball.

Man O' War Marina (Dock And Dine Restuarant), 2011-01-06
Captain: , Kinsale, VA (13)

Very nice service and excellent Bahamian food at the dockside "Dock and Dine" restuarant at the Man O' War Marina. Great Conch Burgers!!

Good marina, 2009-07-27
Captain: , Cape Coral, FL (334)

No booze or tobacco sold on cay. Marina was empty. Service was very good.
