Reviews for Maitland Valley Marina
Nice town and helpful staff, 2017-07-20
Captain: , Portsmouth, NH (471)

The channel entrance is privately maintained and well buoyed. We were told to stay 30ft off the jetty and it made sense as the rock gradually slanted into the water. We saw more water than mentioned by others, a minimum of 13 feet. If you pass the transient slips and fuel dock like we did to turn around, be careful. It is very tight and there are more rocks that protrude out under the water from the jetty here. The marina is pretty basic. But take a walk up the hill and into town. Very impressive town center. Old world charm!

Friendly staff, good protection from lake, 2017-07-02
Captain: , Bayfield, WI (340)

The marina staff were welcoming and friendly, and the people here were great. The marina is well protected from the lake, but is right next to a busy harbor and salt mine, so it's not very picturesque. Trains, semis, and lakers go in and out of the mine / harbor several times daily, so it can be noisy sometimes. The washroom facilities are in the same building as the maintenance area, but were clean and very nice. Downtown was interesting, but lots of stairs to climb to get there. Fuel dock and pump out are easily accessible going in (port tie up). Slips and fairways are somewhat tight but the staff is willing to help in any way.

Nice spot for shelter, 2016-09-01
Captain: , LaSalle MI (618)

Great spot if you have a day to explore the city and all it has to offer. Not much to offer if you get in late and plan on an early exit. Heads are clean, one restaurant near by that was closed when signs said open. Protection is excellent, dock are in good shape and staff was welocoming.

Good place to hide, great town, 2015-12-23
Captain: , Toronto (482)

This coast of Lake Huron can be a nasty place, and Goderich is a good place to hide or regroup. There are excellent beaches North and South of town with excellent fresh water surf, beware, the beaches can be rocky only a dozen feet from the high water mark.

If you just need a place to hide for a few hours the salt mine offers a nice harbour of refuge.

The town is beautiful. It was the location of the last public hanging in Canada and a trip to the old gaol is well worth the time.

Great Place to Shelter, 2015-10-20
Captain: , Rockford, IL (614)

Excellent staff and wide docks in great shape. Just look for the turqoise color salt mine buidlings to guide you in. If you choose to walk up the hill to town be aware that it's steep, with rustic steps, and quite a hike.

Goderich harbour, 2015-07-18
Captain: , Windsor (270)

The marina is well protected and has been updated. You are close to a salt mine but it is a God send if you need off the big bad lake! Walk into town, it is really nice. You can find supermarkets and other stores including hardware. Friendly and very helpful staff.

View of the Salt mine, 2014-07-02
Captain: , Port Franks (176)

We stayed one night on the new finger slips. Good quality large slips. Bathrooms and showers were clean and close. No real scenery unless rail cars and Salt mines are your thing.

Little Marina Tucked out of harms way, 2013-10-15
Captain: , Cedar Point, Sandusky, OH (400)

We had to stop because lake Huron was awful (as on most of our trip). This was a good stop to make us feel like we made progress.

A great stopover, 2013-07-04
Captain: , Pittsburgh (564)

Goderich is a great marina and very sheltered. Significant work underway on the docks this year (2013). 30 & 50A supply & water. The town is very typical of a small waterside Canadian town and has done significant rebuilding since the Tornado hit a couple of years ago. Gas and Diesel.

A Jewel when you're seeking refuge from Lake Huron, 2012-05-09
Captain: , Midland Ontario (660)

The marina is a bit tired with obvious signs of neglect. Friendly and helpful staff. It shines like a beacon when the lake kicks up. It's keeps you safe from the storm

Friendly Harbor, 2010-03-12
Captain: , East China, MI (183)

Well protected, deep Channel. Long flight of Stairs to get into a very nice Town full of fun.
