Yes - Behind gate leading to Mad Max Cats.

No - The Airport laundry is 3+ miles out of town. Lots of machines that double as a laundry service for hotels. Bring lots of quarters - loads are $6-9 depending on the size of the machine.

A well stocked Stop and Shop is located a 20 minute walk up the main street.

Yes - A hardware store is located 1/2 mile out of town as you head out to the airport. Very basic household oriented.

Yes - More than 10 in walking distance. 'Seafood Shanty' is dockside, service great, food OK, decor good; 'The News', 2 minute walk within the Kelly House compound, earned 2008 best resturant in Marthas Vineyard award, and they deserved it. Recommend the micro brewery sample, all the appetizers, and the popover desert. A bakery and several small cafe's provide many options for breakfast and lunch.

Reviews for Mad Max Marina
We Passed on the Maximum Rate, 2013-09-23
Captain: , Wickford RI (200)

We called for the rate on a Sunday night when they were half empty, end of September, and were quoted the "off season, half off rate" of $6 a foot! They just didn't want to bother. The town moorings are plentiful and $40/nite. The launch is excellent and even at $8 roundtrip you can go back and forth a lot before you come close to the cost of a slip at "The Max".

Great Location!, 2012-12-06

We stayed here off season for a few days, a small marina, but close to everything and staffed well.
Not sure if I would want to pay their summer rates, though

Location makes this a Winner, 2012-06-29

There may only be 4-5 slips in Edgartown with dock access for transients > 50 feet. Mad Max has 2 of them (plus 3-4 smaller slip). We enjoyed the direct downtown access and would return here again. Services are basic water and trash. Two ships stores are within 5 minute walk but are stocked with only the basics.

Costly, 2009-12-18
Captain: , East Greenwich, RI (660)

Take a mooring instead. 7 bucks a foot is crazy. Also there are three town docks on a first come first serve basis between the mad max marina and the edgartown yacht club. Just do not dock at the dock painted blue as that is reserved for the launch.

Excellent Service, Few Ammenities but thats ok, 2009-07-01
Captain: , Huntington, NY (2311)

There are very few slips in the entire harbor available for transients, if you find a rare space here it's probably at Mad Max, and market price be it lobsters or dock slips in this town, is very steep.

For $7 per foot you might choose to stay on a mooring instead.
There are few ammentities other than very well rubber padded slips, but a major ammenity is that your right there in the middle of town once you dock with everything the town has to offer.

The dockhands are very competent and helpful, Mark stands out amoung them.

Beware on the approach of the two "On Time" ferryies that dart across the water way every couple of minutes, Beware the current which can be up to 5 knots says Mark, and especially betware the combiation of the two ... as when we stopped to let a ferry pass, we quickly found ourselves being uncomfortably swept across the water front in the current. There appears to be a lot of manuevering room, but you need to plan on using every inch to make a 180 turn in strong winds and current.

Great location, but....., 2008-07-20
Captain: , Sag Harbor, NY (637)

You can't beat the location for accesability to everything in town, but the marina itself leaves a lot to be desired. We received very little help on arrival and none on departure. The docks have definately seen better days and there are no facilities. (only electric and water) For 7.20/ft I expected a lot better. Our slip was along side the docks for Edgartown Yacht Club and Old Port Launch service and none of the launch operators know the concept of no wake. (Not the fault of Mad Max but the constant wave action is very anoying.) All in all I would recommend a mooring in Edgartown.
