Reviews for Tenants Harbor Boatyard
Quiet, friendly, and very quiet, 2017-03-24
Captain: , Westport Point, MA (391)

Blew into this place after an overnight crossing from Cape Cod August 2017. It was really great to duck in here, hook up to a mooring, shower, and sleep. Took a walk around the area in the morning...barely a soul to be seen. Pleasant little store about 1/2 mile up near the crossroads, but not much other than private property. Good place to lie low. Friendly folks. Snug stopover.

simply a beautiful quiet harbor with lots of local fisherman- who do head out in the morning but its part of the charm..pick up a mooring - bathroom and shower were clean -folks at boatyard happy and helpful, resturant on dock- turn off and enjoy you will not be disapointed

super service, 2016-07-08

A superior level of helpful attitude here make this a great stop. Diesel now on the dock and gas close. They even rescued our wayward dink! Also, General Store is close with essentials of high quality provisions including fresh produce. Post Office also a short walk and lots of eatery options. No hardship to wait out a rainy/foggy day.

Tenants Harbor update, 2016-06-27

Tenants Harbor Boatyard now sells diesel. No gas. Cod's End restaurant has reopened. Now called Lukes.

A nice place to spend the night, 2015-09-08
Captain: , Avondale, PA (448)

We arrived late one afternoon in late August and found only two moorings available, both at quite a distance from THBY. The THBY dockmaster came out in his skiff to help us find a suitable mooring. We had a pleasant night on the mooring and awoke to the sounds of many lobster boats getting underway in the morning.

There's no wifi service at the moorings but there's a computer in the customer lounge on shore that's available for transients to use.

We rowed into shore in the morning for breakfast at the village bakery and a quick visit to the general store. This store is apparently owned by Linda Bean like the one in Port Clyde.

Walking around the village is pleasant. We spent some time talking to the dockmaster and learned much about the history of the area and the THBY. We saw the boat belonging to Jamie Wyeth, the painter, who also owns THBY as well as Southern Island and the abandoned lighthouse at the entrance to Tenants Harbor.

Pleasant Layover, 2015-08-17
Captain: , Hampton NH (292)

Called Lyman-Morse number in the various guides and asked for a mooring. Gave length and draft but the person didn't seem to know about draft. We draw 3 feet. Was assigned a lovely mooring in the center of the harbor. Later, deeper draft boats coming in had trouble finding a mooring with enough water. We felt a bit guillty sitting on our assigned deep water mooring. However we had a very pleasant two day stay. The shower appeared new and clean. They have both block and cube ice for a nominal fee and the harbor was very quiet on Sunday. But all the lobster boats were gone by 7am Monday morning. Wakes can be a minor issue.

Lyman morse no longer here, only Tenants Harbor Boat yard. According to August 2015 issue of Maine Boats, homes, and Harbors, Tenants Harbor Boatyard has showers $3 for one $5 for two showers and moorings available, and they do NÔT have fuel available for transients.

Nice stop , 2015-08-03

Aug 2, 2015 moorings are $30. Was unable to get AT&T cell service. Beautiful Maine working harbor. Many lobster pots on approach. Definitely worth a day or two.

Limited pier space but morrings seem to be always available. Dinghy dock easily accessed. This protected harbor hosts a working waterfront, and the harbor loop can be made by dinghy, to include a trip to Southport Island Light. No pumnp out, but all other services available. It would be nice if the lounge had key code access, it closes with the boatyard.

General store, excellent restaurant (Happy Clam) and bakery within east walk.

A must visit if needing an escape from the crowded tourist scene. We stopped here on our way to Rockland for two days and could have easily stayed much longer.

good restaurant nearby, 2014-08-13
Captain: , Galesville, MD (246)

The Happy Clam restaurant, about 1/4 mile from the marina, has a few good German dishes on its menu. Excellent jaeger shnitzel.

Friendly and Helpful, 2014-08-10
Captain: , Kittery, ME (200)

No longer Lyman-Morse, the Boatyard is still a fine facility with moorings, ice, showers and internet access. Very friendly folks anxious to help. The small gereral store (now owned by Linda Bean) is up the hill to the left and a convenient casual restaurant (The Happy Clam) is to the right about 1/4 mile. No more fuel or food at Cod End, but they still rent moorings (yellow lobster buoys).

Friendly and helpful stop, 2014-07-14
Captain: , Yarmouth, ME (192)

Really a helpful place. Had a problem with a water tank. Stuart helped me diagnose it and even got a wrench for me to use that they did not have when I first got there. Good shower and wireless access, with a small grocery and pub at the local inn for food off the boat.

Great value, friendly staff, 2012-08-24
Captain: , Annapolis (451)

We spent a night and for a $25 mooring thought the amenities well worth while - shower, lounge with wifi, inexpensive ice and super helpful staff. The general store is a short and pleasant walk away and meets basic boater's needs.

Wonderful service experience and lovely harbor, 2012-04-08
Captain: , Brooklin, ME (1081)

We came in here trying to push too hard into a northeaster and both damaging our mainsail a bit and engine trouble. Stuart Farnham at LM was of great assistance tracking down the necessary parts for us and diagnosing our engine trouble (clogged filters from pounding into a headsea.) He was also able to get a custom part machined for us at the main LM boatyard in Thomaston and sent over in the meanwhile. Stuart's really pleasant to work with, and he stopped at several out of town places on his way to/from home to find us sail slides of the right size which were quite tricky to track down. This is also a lovely harbor with a mix of working boats and yachts.

very accommodating and pleasant personnel at l-m, 2011-09-28

Easy way to visit Tenants Harbor, 2011-08-07
Captain: , Castine, Maine (284)

Tenants Harbor is the ideal overnight stop for us as its a day's cruise from our home port of Castine. Renting a mooring from Lyman Morse ($25) is an easy way to visit this nice working harbor. Shower facility is good but only open 8 am - 6 pm.

Lyman- Morse Services, 2010-08-22
Captain: , Tenants Harbor, ME (10)

The dockage is more or less for boats needing minor repair services, e.g. water pump problems. Most boats stay out on rental moorings ($25) to use other services provided like wi-fi, toilets, showers, and the dinghy dock. It is an active lobstering harbor so some early morning noise and boat wakes can disturb quiet nights. Friendly, knowledgeable service, and support from main boatyard (travel lifts) in Thomaston soon gets you going again.

Quiet, well-protected harbor, clean facilities, 2010-04-18
Captain: , York, ME (1971)

Although primarily a boat builder, Lyman Morse rents dockage to transients as available. This is a great place to stay in Tenants Harbor if you want an alternative to a mooring.

In Aug 2008 there was a new and very clean "customer lounge" building with showers & heads. There is a small grocery with a sandwich counter, a nice restaurant and fish markets within an easy walk. Price in 2008 came to just over $70 for a 29-foot boat plus electric.

Fuel is nearby at Cod End, and Lyman Morse advertises full services and haul-out at this modern and well-equipped yard, although we fortunately did not need to use either. The staff was very friendly and we even got a personal tour of the facility.
