Reviews for Ludington Municipal Marina
Nice Marina and Area, 2016-09-21
Captain: , Portage Lakes, OH (140)

Stayed here 3 nights over the weekend. Easy walk to town, with some good choices for restaurants. Mostly Bar & Grille's, but found House of Flavors, so all was well. Nice playground for the kids and interesting sculptures in the park that give a little of the Ludington History. Definitely cool seeing the SS Badger coming in and out. Only downside is that they lock up the boater's lounge in the evenings, so no evening football for this time of the year. Bathrooms were mostly clean, but does show some signs of age. I would consider staying here again, if passing through.

Nice marina, 2016-09-14
Captain: , Grand Rivers, Ky (1652)

8-23-16 Nice marina, very helpful staff. Very protected marina. Best fuel prices on the west coast of Michigan. Easy walk to town with many restaurants/bars. Beauty and barber shops. Interesting watching the Badger ferry coming in and out, this marina is not affected by the coal burning ship.

Interesting town to visit, 2016-08-11
Captain: , Chicago, Racine, Fish Creek,Wi (2010)

Interesting to watch S/S Badger steam in and out of the harbor using its anchor to manuver to and from the dock. Facilities well kept and clean. Good ice cream shop close by and nice walk to the beach and the breakwall.

Ludington Municipal Marina, 2016-08-07
Captain: , St. Joseph, MI (814)

This large marina is convenient to town and has good facilities. I found the staff friendly and helpful.

Ludington is a great place to spend a few days. Lots to see, do and eat!

And their internet actually works!

Very Nice Marina & Harbor for a Stay or Stopover, 2016-08-06
Captain: , Mystic, CT (190)

Stayed 4 days. Marina harbor protected from adverse wind conditions. Beautiful park setting. Met quite a few loopers to exchange ideas and experiences. SS Badger a real treat to see come and go. Great beach for swimming just a short walk. Farmers market on Fridays. Lots of shopping and a few restaurants down town just a couple of blocks from marina. Town area is well maintained %u2013 streets are flower lined, grass manicured, streets easy to stroll or casual walking. Wi-Fi signal strong and easy to connect to. Boater%u2019s Resource Facility - Showers and wash rooms very clean and updated with plenty of room - Spacious boaters lounge and laundry in adjacent rooms %u2013 information brochures. Staff very accommodating, helpful and friendly. Gas, Diesel, Pumpout. Would definitely come back.

The Badger is the bonus but diesel prices not too shabby either, 2015-09-06
Captain: , Wilmington, DE (780)

another superbly located dnr marina. only 2 blocks to "main" street. The staff were mostly local teens on their summer vacation, but they knew what to do. the facility is well maintained tho showers/bathrooms could be improved. make sure you find out when the Badger is returning so you can be sure to be in the marina/park area for a great display of anchoring skills by the last coal fired steamship operating in the USA.

Great stop 8/29/15, 2015-09-02
Captain: , Atlanta (770)

Stayed one night on the wall. Great restaurant just across the street. Easy in/out, no rocking.

nice marina, 2015-08-20
Captain: , muskegon mi (185)

The facilities were clean and well taken care of. There are laundry facitlites that weren't over priced and there is a playground a short walk away. And the best part is The House of Flavors which is a short two blocks away.

Affordable and very nice, 2015-07-07
Captain: , St Louis (270)

We draw 7' of water and had plenty of water at the entrance and in the marina. The marina has a lounge with a TV, great for kids, a lender library, clean showers and bathrooms, and laundry. The laundry has a change machine and you can also buy soap.
Electric plug-in was included with our dockage.
For cheap home style meals go to the Hamlin Diner, and then go to House of Flavors for ice cream, both are within walking of the marina.
The staff is very nice and helpful.
Watch the docking of the SS Badger, the last coal fueled steam ship still in use in the USA. They come into the the lake, drop their anchor and spin the 410' ship around so that they can back into their dock. You can see the whole thing from the marina.

Nice and Close, 2015-03-25
Captain: , Muskegon MI (169)

Nice marina with fixed docks. Staff is nice and helpful. Very close to parks and downtown area with many shops and resturants.

Great place to stop, 2014-09-17
Captain: , Kelso, Wa. (834)

Friendly helpful staff could not do enough for us. Super clean and well kept facilities. Long way to groceries, marine store, services. Count on the Badger for that early wake up horn in the morning.
We rate the marina a 5 and the stop a 3

Another brewpub location, 2014-09-12
Captain: , Galena, MD (1826)

Marina help must have changed after labor day. They caught the lines, secured them and walked away. After we retied lines and attached power, I walked to the building housing the baths, lounge and laundry, only to be informed by another boater to go to the fuel shed to signin.
Walked to Jamesport Brewing Co, short walk. Good brews but this late in the season and they were out of several beers. Good menu for light fare and for dinner.

A Great Stop, 2014-09-07
Captain: , Green Cove Springs FL (1380)

Very efficient dock hands who knew how to handle lines and follow instructions. Dock hands very proficient fueling boat. Very Weather Secure Marina. First Marina we viisited who flushes with extra water and repumps your holding tank as a matter of routine. Walked to SS BADGER last 410 ft Steam Driven Ferry and did a day trip to Manitowoc, WI. Had a great day enjoying the trip on the BADGER. She is the last operating Steam Ship in the USA. Spent five nights here enjoying Ludington, Mi Marina Grounds are a park like setting with Great Boaters lounge and a new, second building with additional heads and showers just a short walk from our dock. Great fun watching from the shore, the SS BADGER return to Ludington and dropping anchor to pivot on it and back to her berth. Three Long Blasts, she is coming through the Breakwater. A great Farmers Market and good place to be hiding from weather . This was a tough place to leave. Capt Helen & Chief Engr Bob Onboard ALLEZ! (MT50)

Good stop with nice town, 2014-09-03
Captain: , Bay Hill Marina, Athens, AL (121)

Great staff with reasonable prices. Lots of good restaurants, bars, and pubs. Also good dog groomers nearby.

Up To The Usual Michigan Standard, 2014-08-25
Captain: , Tarpon Springs (983)

The Michigan run marinas are a known and excellent standard and Ludington met that standard. Efficient (though we did have to call on the phone - calls on 9 and 16 went unanswered, but this seems to be a trend) and courteous. Diesel was 3.87 a gallon. And yes, PM Steamers is an excellent restaurant.

Good marina, 2014-08-21
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens, FL (1897)

Definitely easy ingress and egress, good diesel price of $3.89
Clean restrooms, excellent wifi good to stream from Apple TV, we stayed on the wall and had no issues just make sure you fender before coming along side the wall as the ladders do stick out from the wall.
Would return again as long as depths dont shrink, also one of the more reasonably priced marinas around.

Ivanhoe, SO 37, 2014-08-20
Captain: , Chicago, IL (10)

Nice marina (but watch your fender height due to the fixed docks with protruding posts) with good facilities and easy walking to dining, shops, and provisions. Our only complaint is that the surrounding area is not very dog friendly. When you get away from the marina most parks do not allow dogs. Try to take them to the beach or break wall, and the patrol will be on you in minutes. As we sail with two pups, that might discourage our return.

Great stop with lots to do, 2014-08-16
Captain: , Venice, Fl. (919)

We stopped here the 15th since we could't get into Pentwater. Another nice state built marina. We have learned not to put our fenders out until we are docked as they tend to get caught on the vertical pier posts. Many good restaurants within walking distance. A specialty grocery store on the main street as well as a health food store. Bathrooms are walk from the transient piers but clean and a nice bosters lounge.

Easy Stop on East Side of Michigan, 2013-10-16
Captain: , Cedar Point, Sandusky, OH (390)

A little shallow, we docked against the far wall, along the sidewalk in front of houses. An odd situation, but close to shopping and very relaxing.

Great Stop & Good Fuel Prices, 2013-08-09
Captain: , St. Clair, Michigan (456)

Staff is very accomodating and efficient. Docks are fixed and high off the water so that could be a challange for some boaters during this lower water time. Nice park area adjacent to the marina with lots of good walking space for the dog. Good Restaurants on James St. about 3 blocks from the marina.
The Badger is great to watch but the whistle rivals the 30,000 Island Ferry in Perry Sound except this one sounds at 6:00 am. The best fuel prices we have seen since re-entering US at Drummond Island.

best municipal marina, 2013-07-31
Captain: , Longboat Key, FL (445)

Energetic staff, manicured appearance, clean laundry and rest rooms, and an adjacent park for the pooch make this a great stop. Steamers restaurant which is across the street was very good. We enjoyed walking the streets of the town and of course the ice cream store was noteworthy. Watching the SS Badger come and go was icing on the cake. Docks are high with verticals, so wait on the fenders until tied up. Power pedestal a good distance away, so I am glad I did a stern in. Wifi worked well. Not in reservation system which makes it easier to reserve via phone. Island Hopper.

Great Views, 2013-02-06
Captain: , Lakeside Yacht Club (250)

Very nice marina wiht pool and great room. Long walk to restrooms and showers. Ferry comes in and can be noisy. Fantastic sunset, nice playground next door for kids. Limited downtown area.

Generally Nice, 2012-09-04
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (1787)

Agree with recent reviews overall. Ludington Marina has very ncie amenities with a great staff. We fueled up here as it had the lowest diesel price at this time and 3.99 a gallon. Watching the Badger is kind of cool. Good wake and wind protection as were in there during a bit of a blow. Hardly moved at all.

Well-run marina, nice town, 2012-09-02
Captain: , Wilton, CT (70)

You get the superior marina that comes with the Michigan Harbor system -- great docks, clean faciilities and a friendly staff. And the plus is a walking-distance downtown with good restaurants and a new gourmet provisions store called Best Choice. The only thing that keeps Ludington from being a 5-star stop is that supermarkets, home center, etc. are a car ride away. But if all you need is groceries, Best Choice has a really good selection.

Perfect setting, 2012-04-05
Captain: , indiana (331)

Quaint fishing marina with lots of charm. Great facilities and staff. A block from town and ice cream.

Ludington Municipal Marina, 2011-12-05
Captain: , Grand Haven, MI (674)

Stayed in Ludington the end of September of 2010, 2 nights for the price of one. We were able to pick any spot we wanted and made sure it was close to the bath house. Showers were clean and roomy. Didn't find a grocery store close, but a couple of blocks away from good dining and a brew house. The waterfront park is a good place to walk the dogs and or have a picnic. The Badger ferry is fun to watch as it comes in and docks.

Long Walk and a Free Night Light, 2011-08-26
Captain: , Muskegon, MI (138)

Ludington is a great destination, but the municipal marina here leaves a bit to be desired. As other reviewers have mentioned, if you get a spot on the seawall you are in for LOOONG walk to the bath house. Also, there are street lights along the walkway by the wall that generously light your cabin all night. You may want to bring a sleeping mask and plan to use your own head at night.

Beautiful marina, cheap fuel, 2011-08-25
Captain: , Mesa AZ (1609)

Competent college staff working the docks. Cheapest deisel within 200 miles @ 3.85 (8/20/11). Easy walk to town, close to Badger. Try Steamers PM for the BEST food in town.

Typical resort town in Michigan except for ....., 2011-01-25
Captain: , Chicago IL (133)

watching the Badger. Go ahead and walk right up to the loading ramp and watch the cars/trucks/semis go on and off. Pleasant way to spend a couple of hours and talk to the staff of the Badger - BTW it's EXPENSIVE to go across the lake on the Badger - glad I had my sail plan to save $ - the town is pleasant and we enjoyed exploring it .....

Nice marina, 2010-08-13
Captain: , Tellico Marina (290)

clean facilities, great dog walk, wondeful staff, it is worth staying just to see the Badger come and go. Town close by - it's ok....
heads up - park on the wall and you have a long walk to the heads!!

Watch your depth, 2010-07-25
Captain: , Chicago, IL, USA (836)

Entrance into harbor is less than 7' as of July 09 even at the insistance of the harbor staff that it was more than 8'. I tried three times in a row (centered, then right, then left) to get in and grounded in the soft mud every time. Warning sign of 6' depth at entrance is correct, marina staff on radio and phone was wrong. Never got into this marina, so my low rating only reflects my frustration of being given wrong info by staff.

Ludington Municipal, 2010-07-12
Captain: , Holland, MI (67)

Great place to stop, close to Lake Michigan and close to town with lots of eating spots. Very nice docks and the staff are all great, and of course the Badger......the last coal fired steam driven passenger and car ferry on the Great Lakes!!

Nice location/great pertection, 2009-08-25
Captain: , spring lake (42)

Short walk to town, many places to eat and drink. Great grocery store within minutes of walking. Ludington also has its' own built in alarm clock called the Badger. Set for 8:00 a.m. every day, you'll never oversleep!
