Reviews for Lock 31 Buckhorn
lock wall with power!, 2017-08-17
Captain: , Marthasville (643)

Delightful stop. Couple places to eat, well stocked convenience store and pharmacy a couple hundred feet away.

We used a friends car to visit Bobcaygeon and enjoyed being back at our secluded lock wall with a big campfire (wood available from lockmaster or local stores).

great stop above or below the lock, 2017-06-22
Captain: , Hilton Head, SC (420)

houseboats usually take the upper east wall (with power). call the lock to see where there is room. well serviced beautiful but popular spot. fantastic breakfast at restaurant/pub across the road from west upper wall.

Electrical Service, 2016-06-17
Captain: , Houston, Texas (970)

They just turned on the electrical service for boats on the east wall of the upper side. 6 pedestals with two 30amp connections at each pedestal. $9.80 Cad per day. We were the first user.
Wifi at the library, 10-5 Tue-Fri, 10-4 Sat, closed Sun & Mon. Accessible outside when library is closed.
Easy walk across footbridge to the east to groceries, post office, and hardware. Pharmacy, ice cream, pizza, and library are up the street on the west bank.
Two night stays allowed starting this year.

Another nice place to stop for the night, 2015-08-23

Hrlpful and friendly lockmaster and staff

OMG houseboats!, 2015-08-09
Captain: , Ottawa (804)

Upper wall right beside a local road. Lots of traffic during the day but quiet at night. Small restaurant has great fish and chips.
Lots of houseboats to keep your heart pumping. The upper wall provides more space. Narrow exit on the bottom, so lockmaster may walk the houseboats out.

Best Bakery on the TSW, 2014-07-31
Captain: , Heber Springs, AR (146)

Cross the dam or walk over the bridge to the bakery. Best bakery on the TSW. Good variety of freshly baked goods. The cheese bread is great as are the struddles. Good grocery store across the street from the bakery an a large Home Hardware store on the street to the bakery.

Freindly and efficient lock lock staff st one of the busiest locks on the system.

one reason to stop, 2014-06-15
Captain: , Naples, FL (1096)

If not staying for the night, do tie up at the wall, go across bridge to bakery and get some amazing butter tarts, cheese sticks, and frozen homemade entrees for the freezer.

Very adequate. Nice., 2012-07-19
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (1850)

The north wall is well shaded. Lengthy. Nice place to hang out for a night. Not enough to see or do for more than that. But a good stop on the way up to Bobcaygeon.

Good stop - things are relatively close, 2012-07-17
Captain: , Cape Coral FL (4188)

Short walk across the bridge to the post office, hardware store, grocery store and bakery/convenience store.
Along the lock wall it is very close to numerous restaurants. We had pickeral dinner at the Old Ice House which also has an open Internet (Dlink). It was slow but it was free. Lockmaster said all the other restaurants around are pretty good. There is a general store just a short walk up the hill along the water. Great place to walk the dog.

Captain: , punta gorda, fl (1448)

Stayed on lock wall. Nice pizza place (outside dining at picnic tables). Good pub next to docks.

active lock, 2009-07-29
Captain: , Key Largo (5457)

groceries, hardware, no laudry, restruants. lots of friendly boat traffic.
Walked to the Foodland since there was no taxi, asked the manager for a ride back. He took us and our $175 worth of groceries back to the boat in his truck. Nice.
