Reviews for Leeward Yacht Club and Marina
Very happy with Leeward, 2017-07-11
Captain: , Pompano Beach, FL (190)

Everything is in good order. The docks are in good shape, the pool and deck area almost new and they have a cute little bar/resteraunt that was friendly and affordable. The marina offers free bikes and water toys like paddleboards and Kayaks which is a nice feature. Location is good - but you do want to watch the tide and stay in the channel at low tide entering the sound. Located convienent to New Plymoth, but it would be a long walk - better to ride the bikes or get a golf cart. Bathrooms are private and in good shape

Great Little Marina, 2017-07-09
Captain: , Tall Timbers MD. (80)

We stopped here for two nights, June 26 and 27, 2017. The staff was friendly and helpful. The facilities are well maintained and clean. the cost was $1.50 per foot, which was quite reasonable. No cart rentals available and a struggle to get a slip. Very crowded this time of year. Lots of medium size outboard boats. No carts available on the island. The marina staff was great, the issue is that this time of year, the Abacos are so crowded that slip availablilty was touch and go.

Beautiful Marina! Great Staff!, 2017-06-11

We draw 6 ft so we always traveled at half tide and had no problems as we came in and out about 8 times.
LYC became our home port for 3 months, as we traveled thru the Abacos. Updated and expanded in 2016, LYC now has a lovely pool with new lounge chairs, an expanded deck for dining with all new furniture. Clean, spacious showers and restrooms. Great, fresh food at the restaurant served with a smile. Eddie, the dock master was always there to help us in and out as we traveled about and returned often. He's an expert at securing your boat. Some nights we had gusts over 30 and we were always safe. Management and office staff have a "can do" attitude and they will help you find what you need. Ask for a monthly rate to make this your home too. Marina is a short dinghy ride to town for groceries, supplies, and shopping and lots of other good restaurants and bars. And a short ride to white sound to listen and dance to the "Gully Roosters " on Wednesday nights. Green Turtle Cay is our favorite island, and LYC, our favorite marina. See you in 2018!

Recent new owner has put a lot into it, 2017-06-03
Captain: , Fort Myers, FL (1220)

Lovely new umbrellas, pool settings, busy wait-staff, solid docks. Attentive marina staff (Eddie is a champ). Everything in great repair. Long walk to town unless you dink across the sound to the little public dock just north of Black Sound Marina. But you pay for all of this. Not as pricey as Green Turtle Club in White Sound but also not as established nor with the amenities.

The staff are great!, 2017-05-19
Captain: , Cocoa FL (670)

We stayed two nights and will definitely return. From the moment we arrived until we checked out the staff went out of their way to assist us. Yes, the wifi was spotty, but the staff allowed us to use the patio of a nearby cottage with good internet service, so we would get weather updates. They also have loaner bikes which we rode into Black Sound and into New Plymouth a couple of times. We found the food at the restaurant excellent (try the lobster mac and cheese!) with reasobable prices. Showers were clean and close to the docks. If you draw 5' or more consider waiting on high tide as the channel gets skinny in places. The new ownership should know that their staff is really making a difference at this marina!

Excellent Marina in North Abaco, 2017-05-12
Captain: , Miami (101)

Leeward Yacht Club Marina is located in the Black Sound area, well protected. Shallow entrance in low tide. Excellent customer service, friendly people, organized marina, beautiful setting. Eddie the Dock master was very helpful, always with a smile, best of the Bahamas. This marina has a pool side restaurant/ bar serving delicious food.
Clean showers, laundry (4 dollars a load). Also available kayaks, paddle boards. This marina has also 4 new vacation houses for rent beautiful design 3 up to 5 bedrooms with slip included in rental price. The administrator is always present assisting with any needs. Definitely will comeback!

Much better than the Green Turtle Club, 2017-04-30
Captain: , St Petersburg, FL (57)

Green Turtle Club is getting a little run down. Not too much yet but it%u2019s obvious that maintenance is lacking.

On the other hand, Leeward Yacht Club, located in Black Sound is very well kept, docks that look new, great WI-FI, a beautifully maintained swimming pool, great poolside eating areas, both shaded under cover and open under umbrellas, elevated bar looking over the sound, clean restrooms with showers, clean laundry, very friendly staff and manager, and close to New Plymouth. The place has a relaxed, friendly Bahamian atmosphere. Dockage was $1.50/foot at the end of April 2017. Island water, not RO water was 25 cents a gallon and electricity is metered at .50 a KW. The slips are very protected from winds from any direction.

a little gem, 2017-04-22
Captain: , Brooklyn, NY (94)

Angie and her staff are really trying to create a beautiful oasis. We tied up for two weeks in Jan and had a great time...blackened conch, gorgeous pool and property up on a bluff, good location to town, pineapples, and white sound. Not the cheapest but there are plenty of those options on the island as well. Keep up the great work. We'll be back!

Skip the overrated Green Turtle Marina and come here to paradise instead. , 2017-03-17
Captain: , Pensacola, FL (184)

What a fabulous place. Dinghy 150 yards to the customs office in New Plymouth. Often Yequoia, the customs officer, will come to your boat if you check with the Marina office. Everything here is new and and it's truly a Caribbean atmosphere. The American owners are intent on making this the best Marina in the Abacos, and it's working. Eddie, the dock master and jack of all trades, is a treasure. A new swimming pool with super comfy amenities. Cozy Fire pit. New laundry mat. GREAT food, reasonable priced. Enter/Exit channel closer to high tide until they get the channel dredged soon. Reliable power, water and WiFi. Dinghy dock across inlet to New Plymouth for grocery, liquor store, bakery, and restaurants. Cant wait to come again!

New owners - New pricing, 2017-02-02
Captain: , Point Edward (459)

the off season rates are now 1.25/ft daily or 1.10/ft weekly. Power is metered at 0.50/kWH and water is 0.25/gal. The restaurant/bar is open Wed to Sun only also with new pricing. The laundry is now working with new machines at $4/load in quarters. WiFi was OK.

Check it out!, 2017-01-25
Captain: , West Kelowna, British Columbia (310)

New owners, new upgrades. Very nice marina. Swimming pool, restaurant onsite. Refinished docks and ladders. Great staff are still here.

4-10 January 2017 Stop, 2017-01-25
Captain: , Colonial Beach, VA (650)

On our 6th trip to Bahamas we've stopped every time at Leward Yacht Club. This was first disappointment. Prices were higher and service less. The laundry was not working and no discount for it nor did they tell us it wasn't working. Wifi from their server blocked by many major banking companies. We moved to other marina in Black Sound and were much happier. Leeward now has new owners that run the place without meeting our expectations. Until they change we will not come back.

A Jewel At Black Sound, 2017-01-08
Captain: , Hampton, VA (453)

We stopped here for lunch and owners and the marina yacht club is top notch. The channel is skinny so come in on a rising tide. Dock master and restaurant are excellent.....we had the Lobster Nachos and Jerk Chicken wrap and what a treat. Dinghy or walk to town and docks along with finger piers are well fuel but plenty of water depth. Everything freshly painted and the staff are all very friendly and helpful....

Nice Marina, 2016-05-07
Captain: , Bellingham (40)

The entrance is skinny at low tide - about 4.5 feet and maneuvering room is limited to back into the inside slips. Other than that we agree with all the nice things other reviewers have said about Leeward. It's about a 1 mile walk to town with the usual mix of very basic grocery stores, hardware stores and restaurants.

Enjoyed the Stay, 2016-04-10
Captain: , Palm Beach, FL (341)

Spent a week over Easter. Docks are in excellent shape but north side is a bit tight to get in and out of all the time.

We rented one of the homes (Blue Marlin House) and found it to be excellent.

The staff are friendly and helpful. New owners just took over. Will be interesting to see what they change.

Pool is clean. Bar is great. Food at the Lizard Lounge is pretty good. Try the lizard burger - won't disappoint!!

One of the Best of the Abacos, 2015-08-18
Captain: , Marco Island (50)

We visited the marina for a second time. See previous review below. We found everything to be pretty much the same as before. However, it is important that you have a clear understanding of what they are going to charge you. When we departed the last time we were charged more than what we thought was agreed upon.
The Leeward Yacht Club is what a traveling boat owner seeks. Slip prices are very reasonable. Tina in the office and Eddy on the dock make coming and going a pleasure.

The food in the outdoor restuarant overlooking the pool is excellent. The pool is not very large but clean and inviting.

The showers, laundry facilities, as well as the grounds are well taken care of and always clean and neat.

The docks are top notch with great pedastals that provde power 100% of the time.

Their WiFi is free and some of the fastest we have found in the Islands. If you are traveling the Abacos give this place a try.

Excellent and Comfortable Marina, 2015-07-22
Captain: , Stuart FL (35)

Mechanical problems led us to stay a week at the Marina. We knew nothing about it and found it to be a hidden gem. Tina the marina manager was very accomodating as was Eddie the dock person. The rates are extremely reasonable. The restaurant is excellent. We had the best cracked conch in Green Turtle. The location made it very easy to get into New Plymouth. AND the wifi works. Would go there over any marina in the area and on Green Turtle.

Excellent Service and then some...., 2015-04-16
Captain: , Burlington (180)

What's Next?? Burlington, Ontario Fair pricing, excellent service getting in and out provided by Eddy, a lovely pool , fun drinks at the bar, good food and a great group of people makes this a place you don't want to leave. An easy walk to town to check in at customs and get basic groceries.

Great place that keeps improving, 2014-05-14
Captain: , Punta Gorda (40)

Hiding from storms and enjoying the location. Price is right and with the metered water and power you can decide what is important. Pool is great and tennis court is available. Lizard bar is great and so is food.

Not the easiest finger piers to tie up to but dockmaster is a big help. Easy dinghy ride to New Plymouth for shopping or eating.

Very nice and comfortable marina, 2014-01-26
Captain: , Ottawa (1173)

We stayed here a week and really enjoyed it. Lots of nice people staying on the docks, and yes, most of them are Canadian. :-)

As for the marina, it's the only marina on Green Turtle with metered power, so for power misers like us thats a big plus. Metered water is also very nice. Reasonable weekly and monthly rates makes it easy to stay here for longer periods.

Close to New Plymouth, either by dingying across the sound to the public dock, or walking around the sound on the road.

Top Notch Facility, 2014-01-01
Captain: , BayPort (10)

This is an awesome marina and is very well maintained. We stayed here during New Years, great party. Seems to be a big gathering spot for quite a few really nice Canadian's that come to wait out the northern winter

Great spot, 2013-07-20
Captain: , Ft. Lauderdale (420)

This is a well maintained facility with friendly staff. Plan to be there on a Thursday to hear the Gully Roosters play in the evening. They are led by Kevin, the dockmaster from The Other Shore Club. There is a public dinghy dock just across Black Sound and north of Black Sound Marina that allows easy access to New Plymouth and Pinaeapples Bar and Grill.
Note: As of mid July "13 the bar is closed indefinitely.

A great stop convenient to New Plymouth, 2013-07-15
Captain: , Connelly N.Y. (353)

This is a well protected stop in Black Sound that is actually within walking distance to New Plymouth. The staff here is terrific and they go the extra mile to ensure you will have a good stay.

Leeward Yacht CLub, 2013-06-13
Captain: , Merritt Island, FL (556)

We stayed here June 5-12, 2013. The marina itself remains in very good condition. Christie and Adrian Lowe no longer manage the place; the new hands are very nice but still learning.

The showers are clean and no longer require tokens, however the laundry does require tokens.

The Lizard Bar and Grill is alive and well. They had a live band three of the seven days we were there.

We enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to a return visit.

Great Value and Nice heads, 2013-05-08
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

For the money, it is hard to beat. Easy dinnk ride to town if you do not want the long walk, and easy walk to beach on ocean side.

Nice place to stay, 2013-05-06
Captain: , Palm Coast, Florida (785)

We stayed a week here. Good rates. Good docks. Restaurant is a work in progress. Pool is nice. Staff are great.

Greta spot, 2013-03-17
Captain: , titusville fl (62)

Very clean. Adrian and Christi run a great marina- Bar is a great spot to meet people. You can walk to town (1/2 hour). Docks are a little clumsy for sailboats but doable

Always pleased, 2012-05-16
Captain: , Baltimore, MD (186)

This was our second stay at Leeward. I agree with what others have posted. Added is that "carts" are available to go to town, which is a fun trip. Grocery, hardware, restaurants are available. As for the marina, it's very nice. $.75 with RMHYC membership on-season in May 2012 ($.90/ft without). Adrian (dockmaster) is very, very nice. So is the rest of the staff.

Great stop, 2012-05-03
Captain: , Marthas Vineyard (506)

Good docks, good prices, nice pool, walk to beach, small bar/grill,
very friendly staff, good book swap, too --

Quiet, laid back, short walk or dinghy to town, 2012-03-20
Captain: , Westbrook, CT (453)

Adrian was great, docks are fine, rates are good, with electric at 40 cents per kwh. RO water is 20 cents/gallon. On site Lizard Lounge provides basic food and drink. Only negative is the lack of at ATM on Green Turtle Cay.

Super spot, 2012-02-03
Captain: , Cape Canaveral (1191)

Christie and Adrian Lowe run a real nice marina, clean facilities, good Tiki bar called the Lizard Bar and Grill, and the docks are well maintained. This is our second stop and we are staying the season.

Trapped at Leeward Yacht Club, 2011-03-27
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (1090)

This is a nice place to hang out. The Lizard Bar and Grill is on site and has very good food. The prices are a bit on the high side, but typical of prices in the Bahamas. Try the Lizard Burger - hmmmmm.

The docks are fairly new and in very good condition. Both 30 & 50 amp electric is available at $.40/KW and water is $.20/gal (R/O) which is very good for the Bahamas. Our dock rate with Marsh Harbour Yacht Club membership was $.50/foot - a very good rate.

The marina is well protected from all directions and the town dinghy dock is just across the bay, so all amenities are close at hand. There are 3 grocery stores, 4 restaurants, post office, bank (twice a week), customs, some very nice shops, and a few bars thrown in for good measure. Things are pretty much shut down on Sunday, but 1 grocery and most of the restaurant/bars are open. A very interesting place to visit.

White Bay is a short dinghy ride to the north and there are a couple of nice restaurants and 2 very nice marinas up there.
The laundry has 2 washers and dryers at $4 per load. There are two bath/showers available and free shower tokens are available at the dockmaster's office.

The only issue for us is that the entry to the Black Sound Bay is 4' MLW and we draw 4'. That means that we are limited to entry and departure at mid tidal ranges. So, we are a bit trapped for our departure time.

The staff and the other boaters here are very helpful and happy to assist in any way possible.

We enjoyed our stay here.

New and Nice, 2011-01-26
Captain: , Shelter Island, NY (211)

After spending time outside and dingying around we decided to try Leeward. They have great winter rates although expect to pay $.40kwh for power and $.20 per gallon for water. However its good ro water and still cheaper than making your own. Heated pool, Tiki Bar, free showers, free wi-fi, $4 per load to wash and another $4 to dry. We hung it on the boat. Nice people and great location

Leeward Yacht a great stop if Whale pass is kicking up, 2010-06-26
Captain: , greencovesprings, fla. (279)

Located in Black Sound, Great Turtle Cay. Reverse osmosis system on site. Water .25/ga.\l. Well marked approach, @ 4 ft. at low tide.
One mile walk to town or take your skiff over to a city dock @ 100 yds. Staff is very helpful, Adian Lowe is the manager. New and very clean restrooms and showers. Also a new heated pool.

New marina in Black Sound, 2009-04-27
Captain: , Carolina Beach, NC (391)

Nice new docks on east side of Black Sound. Facility under construction April 2009, but docks & WIFI up and running. Shower/laundry facility to be completed by end of May 2009. Short dinghy ride to public dock immediately across Black Sound from the marina, and from there a short walk to New Plymouth for groceries, hardware, etc. Beach about 1/2 mile walk from the marina. All in all a nice friendly new facility with easy access to everything available in Green Turtle.
