Reviews for Las Olas Marina
Secure, gated, well-protected, 2017-06-11
Captain: , Hull, MA (580)

Élan, Capt Steve and Lynne, Cohasset, MA
Helpful staff, secure piers. Stayed 3 weeks due to business, and weather issues. Gated plus a nightly security guide so we felt good about leaving the boat for 5 days. Short walk to an amazing beach, many good restaurants and happy hours with oysters.
Clean restrooms with large showers. Big laundry area with a huge folding table. Nice boaters lounge with a TV and free wifi.
We will be back!

Caution: Upcoming construction for this marina, 2017-03-07
Captain: , St Augustine (88)

Main marina building to be torn down the end of the month or early April and temporaly replaced with a trailer in the north area of the parking lot until a new building is built in coming year. The trailer will house laundry, bathrooms, showers, etc. A new parking garage will be built in the SE corner, just north of bridge and eventually more docks will be put in where much of the current parking lot stands. In the meantime, the city is not maintaining the current facilities very well. Two of the six washers have been broken for at least the past several months. The wifi signal does not reach the docks. The landscaping has been neglected and much of the facilities are looking to be in a sad state of affairs.

Great location In the Heart of it All, 2017-02-03
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, FL (500)

Stopped her to have a few bits of mail delivered and to obtain provisions for our passage over to the Bahamas. There was a bit of wake action until about 11pm or later on Thurs and into the weekend. The marina is well protected with secured gates, has a really nice laundery facilty, launge and bathrooms. I love to run and there is a wonderful path that runs right along the beach 2 minutes from the marina. You can bicycle to all the important stores.

Convenient, clean and modern., 2016-05-25
Captain: , Denver, CO (55)

Second stay here. Very convenient to beach and beach restaurants and bars. Short trolley ride to shopping and fine dining district. Clean facilities and friendly staff.
Fixed docks are concrete, with 12" square concrete posts. Post have solid rubber rubrail to water level. Concrete decking about 12" thick set flush with outer edge of posts. Decking about 4ft above water level at low tide. Tide about 2.5ft. Finger piers are 50ft long on F dock, center dock on north side of bridge. Fairways mote than adequate. Wake protecting good due to slow wake zones, good water policing and necessity for larger boats to stop and wait for bridge openings.

Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1643)

This marina is part of the Ft. Lauderdale system which I have found to be very well managed. We were able to coordinate our stay between here, New River Downtown, and Coley's Landing from one location. This location has dockside pumpouts and decent docks. The location is a short walk to Ft. Lauderdale beaches and loys of shops and restaurants. Wifi is also ver5y good.

Excelente localização, com boas instalações, preço competitivo e segurança.

Very short and very low floating docks!, 2015-12-20
Captain: , Jupiter, FL (586)

We stayed here for several days. Some good things...our 34 ft sailboat was $40/night with BoatUs discount, nice clean laundry and showers, good security and nice location right on Las Olas Blvd. Some bad things...Bring your own quarters for the laundry. The change machine won't have any and the nearby store won't offer you quarters either. We docked south of the bridge on the shortest lowest floating docks I have ever seen anywhere.

"Journey",Deltaville,VA, 2015-11-25
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (21)

Dock master Victor was great. The facility was clean, nice lounge, clean showers and easy access to Ft. Lauderdale beach for good food and drink. Great security. Water taxi, buses and trolly only two blocks away.

Great People and clean large facilities, 2015-06-16
Captain: , Newport, RI (360)

Gated security - be advised if you are on the floating docks (or the closest fixed dock) bridge traffic can be loud (along with the bell to signal openings) and not eveyone abides by the no wake rules.....but it is a great value and location

Great location and nice facilities, 2015-05-07
Captain: , Annapolis (560)

Stayed here for a week and looking forward to returning next year. Within walking distance to the beach and restaurants. Facilities are clean and the staff is very helpful. Don't be fooled by the mega-yachts %u2014 this is an affordable marina. The T on the floating dock can handle a 40 ft. boat, but floating docks have no pump out.

Nice place, may be difficult to get into, 2015-04-08
Captain: , Virginia Beach, Virginia (84)

Make your reservations early. If you are on the T, some traffic doesn't abide the no wake rules so you'll notice. Staff is helpful. Good faciilities (showers, laundry). Nice restaurants in walking distance.

Bridge still under construction, 2015-03-03
Captain: , Fernandina, FL (448)

3-2-15 Stayed again for a couple of nights. Great price for area and crowded time of year. We were on E dock and the wifi won't reach there nor does the pumpout work although there is a pumpout hookup on the seawalk. Levent was helpful with finding a spot.
Bridge painting is done!

Work will continue for at least another month so beware of grit and dust on you boat. They have had trouble with the tarps so be careful on windy days if they are painting. Other than that a great stop. Good facilities. Good location. Publix by trolley but 7-11 and CVS a close walk. Beach close too. Stars will be better when bridge is done. Good discount for slip with BoatUS.

A Jumpin' place on the weekend, 2014-12-19
Captain: , Hartfield, VA (160)

Price is right
Easy walk to the Beach and Bars, nightlife, lots of partying
Good security
Right under the bridge, really noisy (people, cars)
Floating docks but solid wood rails(no bumper rail)
Lots of boat traffic on river day & nite with plenty of wake
Strong current makes docking a real adventure

Marina Rates, summer 2014, 2014-06-14

This link works to find the marina rates.

Full service, great price, convenient location., 2014-05-20
Captain: , United States (3192)

Not much to add to this much-reviewed marker. We had an excellent stay for several days in April. We rented a car and were happy to have the free parking, and the rates are good for this area, especially with the BoatUS discount. Self-service pumpout at the slips was convenient.

We did not need it, but seldom have I seen such a large laundry facility in any marina, and these were modern, well-kept machines in an air conditioned facility. Top notch.

Top Notch Facility, 2014-05-03
Captain: , Kemah, TX (622)

There are two types of docks. Floating and concrete Non-Floating. We were on F dock - Non-Floating. We had an enjoyable 2-1/2 day stay. the personnell were excellent to work with, ice was plentiful, and restaurants are plentiful in the area. We particularly enjoyed the Quarter Deck. The beach is a block away and is beautiful. Our only, and that is ONLY complaint was the WIFI did not seem to reach the end of F Dock, but we are not limited by that restriction. Easy Peasy approach. May 1, 2014, fees were $1.40/ft I think. Very reasonable. We have also stayed out on the mooring balls. No issues there either and are of high quality

Good beach access - good staff, 2014-04-14
Captain: , Fort Pierce City Marina, FL (460)

We stayed on the fixed B doc. Great staff. Everything was clean

wish someone warned us!, 2014-03-06
Captain: , Santa Cruz, CA (150)

If you like the beeping from the bridge all night long waking you up, this is your place. Speaking of waking...all of Ft launders ale will wake the hell out of you here. And it is awful. Pump out only on a few docks...make sure to ask before you get slip. The fairway is narrow. We witnessed two separate accidents in the 4 days we were there. WATCH OUT!!
No close grocery stores which is real lame. Staff was friendly but that was about it. Wish we paid a little more for some better marina.

Surly Staff member and High Price, 2014-01-25
Captain: , Keyesport, IL (70)

This is an odd marina, imo. Their location is spectacular but the $45 per night moooring fee is crazy high since for my size boat the slip price would have been less. I think there is some city polotics going on here, with most of the staff at least polite if not especially helpful and one individual especially non-user friendly. On the plus side, public transportation, beach and eateries are very close by and the showers/bathrooms are pretty clean with plenty of hot water. If this were priced like Vero, I'd give it more stars but my theory is that they keep the price high to discourage long term living.

Mixed reaction, 2014-01-25
Captain: , Carlyle, IL (364)

I struggled with deciding on 2 stars or 3 because of the inconsistency. A few things were good like the laundry which was large, clean, and reasonably priced at $1.50 each. The bathrooms were ok but there wasn't much room to set things down in the shower area without getting wet. Lounge is spartan. Wifi doesn't reach the F dock without an extender. Pumpout at each slip on the fixed docks but not at the floating docks. Two things really bothered me. You have to go outside the secure area to get to the bathrooms if you're on the F dock and the area doesn't feel safe at night. The other thing is the attitude of some of the workers. No warm fuzzies here. Probably won't come back.

Best place to stay in Ft. Lauderdale (if you are not rich), 2014-01-13
Captain: , Annapolis (795)

Stayed here for three days in January 2014. Staff was superb, location is hard to beat, floating docks are more than adequate. Decent bathhouse (although mold in ladies' showers), very good laundry room. Nothing fancy but can't beat the value in this megayacht town.

Okay Marina, Close to the Beach, 2014-01-08
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (250)

The marina is conveniently located to the beaches, restaurants, bars, shops, etc.-- easy walking distance. The Las Olas bridge was under construction when we stayed and I noticed construction dust collecting on the boat. The docks are fixed, with short finger piers making it a bit of a challenge to tie securely in high wind, but can be done. As other posts mentioned, pay attention to the razor clams on the pilings. Use a lot of fenders. Bathrooms are big and very servicable for a municipal marina. Good security. Even had a security guard come by the dock and introduce himself.

Anchored near marina temporarily while waiting for bridge to open, 2013-12-13
Captain: , Vancouver (510)

Seems like a very nice spot - but the holding was not the best since the 60 lb plough did not want to hold right away. Called the bridge operator who checked and said he could see two mooring balls available on south side of bridge (we saw only one) so we waited for opening and went thru and took a mooring. Was not able to contact any marina or mooring personnel.

Price of Moorings Tripled, 2013-08-28
Captain: , Pines Lake, NJ (451)

I like this location and stayed on the moorings several times in the past. I was in shock when I stayed there 2 weeks ago and found out the price of the mooring balls has been raised to $45 ... Triple of what it was...There were no other boats on them and the penants were coated with gook like they arent used any more. Too bad

Great Place, 2013-08-17
Captain: , Horseshoe Bay Tx. (150)

Stayed 6 days and did repairs. Great place people very friendly and helpful. Pump outs weren't working at the time needs repair.

What a pleasant surprise!, 2013-05-07
Captain: , Key Largo (5457)

came here in summer, 90 cents a foot, wifi, large nice laundry, and floating dock! Walkable to beach area. A bit rocky but dowable. Wifi Weak, dockage is $1.45 ft.

Watch out for the razor clams!, 2013-04-11
Captain: , Cruising (3535)

The dockmaster told us that if we wanted a hand that we shouldn't arrive between 12-1 - he's at lunch. We arrived at 1:30 but couldn't raise him on the radio after several calls. It was low tide and we learned the hard way that the fenders on the pilings are heavily encrusted with large razor clams that stick out 4-6".
At the very least, the dockmaster could have warned us about the razor clams when we spoke to him earlier in the day - when he was sure to let us know about his lunch hour.
I would expect the marina to keep the fenders reasonably clean - those clams didn't get that big or that thick overnight. The dockmaster said they have a boat they use to clean the fenders, but the boat had been broken for a very long time.
It's a great location, but the mentality and attitude is severely lacking.

Good Value, 2013-04-07
Captain: , Colorado Springs CO (180)

No, there is no swimming pool, BUT you can walk to the wonderful beach and swim in the ocean from this facility. The docks are clean, and the staff helpful. We took the #40 bus to "Chuck's Steakhouse" on 17th street for a memorable dinner. We have eaten there off and on for 20 years when our boating took us here, and it is the same, great with fair prices still.

Great location in Ft. lauderdale, 2013-04-03
Captain: , Hilton Head Island, SC (377)

This is a small marina with great attributes. The facilities are well-maintained, it has good wake protection and the location is wonderful. It's a short, two block walk to a very nice beach with good restaurants and at least one good coffee shop (H2O).

The staff is friendly even if they're not always available. The showers are clean, the lounge is spacious and with fast Wi-Fi and the laundry room has plenty of washers and dryers (the dryers being of the commercial variety and quite large).

It's a short (10 minute) trolly ride (50 cents) or #11 bus ride ($1.75) down Las Olas to the shopping/restaurant district. There's also a water taxi stop just north of the marina (very close if you're docked on the north side of the Las Olas Bridge) that not only provides transportation to the same shopping/restaurant district but entertains you with interesting trivia about who lives in the waterfront mansions and who owns which megayachts.

They have both floating and fixed docks, but, unfortunately, the floating docks are only for boats up to about 35 feet. I believe there are ten mooring balls available as well. The only downside is the price during high season (which ends 4/30), but there's always the New River City Docks (not quite as expensive) which are close to shopping/restaurants but not the beach.

Besides the convenient proximity to the beach and shopping district, Las Olas is only a 15 minute run to the 17th St. Causeway bridge and from there you're out in the Atlantic in another ten minutes heading north to Palm beach or south to Miami Beach.

Electric fee update, 2013-03-26
Captain: , Las Vegas (322)

The other reviews are pretty accurate but the electric fees have changed. Complicated but roughly $15 setup/first day than 10 cents a foot per day for 30a or 20 cents foot/day for 50a. still pricey but better than what is advertised.

Excellent location and value, 2013-03-13
Captain: , St. Thomas, USVI (624)

What a great location. Minutes from the beach, minutes from world class shopping and restaurants and right in the heart of Fort Lauderdale. The staff is sparse, but the three who are employed here are very helpful and friendly. There are occasions when the office is closed because one of them is on the dock and often only one or two are working at a time. It is nice to have a police sub-station in the same building as the marina office, although there were talk of car break-ins and some items stolen off boats (even though there is a security gate at each dock), but we did not experience any of that. The laundry facility and restroom/showers were great and air conditioned and we were pleased to have plenty of parking for our rental car. This was a wonderful place to spend some time. The only thing that would be a potential deterrent for a future visit would be the recent power usage change whereby you are charged a fee per day now instead of just getting billed for usage at the end of the month. For us, the daily fee would have been way beyond what power we use. This may be the case at all marinas in the area %u2013 not sure.

Convenient to Fort Lauderdale and beaches, 2013-03-13
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (268)

Found the marina to be adequate but somewhat challenging. Fixed concrete docks require adequate chafe gear, and some imagination. Fender board is a must for sailboat. Adequate bath and laundry facilities but annoying that change machine was broken and marina desk couldn't make change. Also unhappy that the pumpout for my dock was broken meaning I had to move to a T-head for pumpout. Not the worst inconvenience in the world but required that I transit the drawbridge in-order to do so. Eh.
Easy walk to beach and restaurants. Las Olas shopping district available via public transit, bike or long walk. Price is right and if possible, next time I'll grab one of the moorings.

Close to beaches and shopping but noise levels high, 2013-01-07
Captain: , Muskegon, MI (980)

Very good Laundry and shower facility. Staff is absent quite a lot, but helpful when there. There is little effort to control late night noise from other boats.

Bathrooms not clean, lots of garbage in harbor, 2012-12-07
Captain: , Algonac, MI (1926)

Cheap for Fort Lauderdale, and the location is great. Marina staff too busy playing video games to properly clean bathrooms or docks.

It was a very pleasant surprise, 2012-09-26
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (2870)

I don't know if it was a mistake, but we were charged $1 per foot (minus 15 percent for BoatUS making it only $0.85/foot!) The baths/showers were large and clean; well above average. The locked gate gave an extra sense of security. The docks were fixed concrete and very new.

The dockmaster went out of his way to accomodate our late arrival.

Unexpected Gem, 2012-05-17
Captain: , Houston TX (349)

We really liked this marina. There is great secuirty, with the gated access to the docks and it was very quiet and nice in the evenings. We were in the small boat docks on the south side of the bridge and had some boat wakes from the water taxi and others but not too bad. The bridge is very quiet and except for the announcement of closure we didn't notice it. Great bathhouse and laundry facilities and nice, helpful staff in the office. We had fixed concrete docks but they helped us pick a slip with a full finger pier so we could easily get our dog off the boat. Easy walk to the beach or you can catch a trolley to Las Olas Blvd. or Publix. From Publix, you can walk about a mile to the mega West Marine store. We stayed for five days but plan to stay longer next time we are in south Florida.

Convenient and Nice, 2012-04-04
Captain: , Austin, Texas (1774)

Ft. Lauderdale has many very high priced marinas, so this is a nice break. The docks are new concrete fixed docks all protected with gates. The shoreshide facilites are very clean and nice. It is a two block walk to the Ft. Lauderdale beach, and to many restaurants and bars. It is a city marina, so do not expect over the top assistance. They helped with our lines, but you do your own dockside pump-out. You receive a 15% discount with Boat US membership. That makes it a reasonable fee for dockage.

Easy IN and out, 2012-03-18
Captain: , Doylestown, Pa. 18902 (414)

Right off the ICW. Great bathrooms , nice reading tv room. Very secure facility all fenced. The bridge has bells on drop arm gates that can be annoying. Two blocks from the beach. OK restaurant action close by. We caught a water taxi at stop number four at the north end of the marina. you can hit a many good restaurants via water taxi. Some current on the ends of the dock T sections.

Nice facilities, close to restaurant strip, 2012-02-15
Captain: , Gulf Shores Alabama (748)

Very nice shower, head, laundry and TV/Internet/library room.
I enjoyed meeting the other boaters in a relaxed environment in the Internet/library room. Learned of many of their plans and ideas while cruising.
Nice choice of restaurnats within .1 to .5 miles. Easy (and cheap .50) trolly ride to Publix. Meet trolly at top of hill where Los Olas intersects beach 17th Street.
From Publix (trolly drop-off) you are just about .5 miles from Sailorman used boat accessorys store, and the NEW West Marine megastore. Note that West has moved from the older GPS position marked on iPhone maps. While in Ft. Lauderdale every boater must go to thest two stores.

bridge noise at the tee head, 2012-01-25
Captain: , Dorset, VT (357)

The T head on E dock is very noisy with cars going over the grate of the draw bridge. We finally moved 3 slips in and the difference was incredible. Also, there is very strong current at the T head so watch out... the bridge fender and bridge are not far away!

We agree with all the possitive comments about the facilities. Location 2 blocks to the beach is great!

Love this stop!, 2012-01-21
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1290)

We were here 12/4-5 Nice facilities and close the the beach for walking, running, shopping and good restaurants. Good postition for heading up the New River. Have a pump out at the slip and you get a Boat US rate also.

Great Location, 2011-12-30
Captain: , Boston (232)

We stayed at Las Olas Docks for two weeks and were very pleased with the facilities and proximity to both the beach and Las Olas Blvd. shops. We met a number of friendly cruisers on the docks. If you have a pet, the area around the marina is good for dog walking.

Good facility, fixed docks gave us some trouble, 2011-12-27
Captain: , GREEN COVE SPRINGS, FL (736)

We stopped overnight in our 42' sailboat. The showers, laundry, and lounge were very nice. The somewhat understaffed help did their best to help.
We found that the sideways tidal current kept our boat away from the dockside against the piling side, making it an adventure to get on/off the boat. This was a minor inconvenience, but it took enough gymnastics to climb up and leap to the dock, that one of our party did not feel safe trying for it, and never left the boat during our stay!
Otherwise a good experience.

Captain: , Oriental, NC (1148)

Not many marinas have slips and moorings. This one does and, it makes no difference whether you are at a slip or mooring, the marina's facilities are available at no additional charge. The Marina has all the amenities a cruiser could want. Additionally, there is a free trolley service that is run by the city with many drop off points. The Marina does not have fueling services, however, there is fuel delivery boat that hangs out at Green Day Marker #11 on weekdays and #35 on weekends. Boats can make fast alongside or have the fuel delivered: 954-764-3838. They do not fuel at the moorings as they are city owned. The bridge may be a little noisy for those with sensitive ears but we didn't mind it. It is a good choice going North or South. I would rate this marina with 5 stars if it wasn't for the fixed docks for vessels over 35' and very strong current.

nice- but not if you need a pump out, 2011-09-13
Captain: , Cape Coral, fl (190)

We've stayed here many times (love the nearby beach) but last spring when we needed a pump out - ha! not an option unless you have yuor own nozzle. The staff suggested we take a long bus ride to WM to buy a nozzle for our boat.

Great Marina, 2011-07-29
Captain: , St Augustine,Fl (182)

Summer rates were 85 cents a foot with BoatUS card. Just blocks from the beach, next door to water taxi. Lots to do and easy to get where you need to be. Clean facilities. City is short staffed so no help to dock but otherwise a stop we will sure make again.

Good marina., 2011-05-18
Captain: , No real home port. Cruising. (320)

Clean, quiet with good facilities and nearby tourist attractions on beach. $72 for 42-ft cat with discounts. Dock attendants were not there for assistance docking.

Great Stop., 2011-05-05
Captain: , Kingtston Ontario (273)

With our Boat US discount it was only a few dollars more a night to be tied up to the dock ($36.69). Marina personel were very helpful (when around). A 2 block walk to the beach was wonderful. The showers & laundry were always clean. We recomend this stop.

We liked it the first time, so we stayed again, 2011-04-22
Captain: , Lansdale, PA (330)

Docks are on both sides of the bridge, so both times we were able to stay on the side that work best for our departure the following morning. The restrooms/showers were clean, wifi available in the lounge area and the docks are in good condition. The best part about this marina is that it is close to the beach and restaurants.

shows it is gvt run, 2011-03-21

Staff not available, take extensive lunch hours , never there to help docking, many times unclean restrooms, overpacked garbage cans, a poor quality wi-fi and noisy although they are not responsible for that. Spend one week and would not stay more then that.

A very friendly marina, 2011-01-22

Weather extended our stay by a day and we actually were pleased that it did. Good bus service to anywhere. Only a few blocks to the beach with the normal tourist beach motif. Showers hot and clean. Staff exceptionally friendly and helpful.

Idle zone but still rolly during day but good after boat traffic stops. Very near beach, bars and tourist traps. Friendly staff and nice boater's lounge( we had 7 boats).

Mooring balls were easy to come by in March. Business is way down.
Area is very close to beach, restaurants and public transit.
No wake zone through bridge so anchorage is not rolly.

We stayed at Las Olas for two months. The summer prices are OK, but the cost increases dramatically in October for the winter season and just before the boat show. It is a great place to be if you want to be near Fort Lauderdale Beach. The ocean is three blocks away with miles of beach. This is also the area with all the beachfront restaurants. There is a gym nearby which has drop in classes available. The security is excellent here as all slips are behind high fences with locks. Also, there is a police station at the marina offices and there are always police present. The staff is very helpful. Laundry and shower/restroom building is large, clean, and includes a TV room. There is a water taxi pickup station at the marina and also a trolley stop a few blocks away. There is a dog beach nearby which is open in the evenings for a few hours. Check the city website for cost and times. (Very few beaches in Florida allow dogs so this is unusual.)

Quite inexpensive for the area. (The two docks under the bridge are for boats <=35 and are less expensive than the "big boat" fixed docks to the north.) Handy to water-taxi, stores, and beach but away from the madness of "downtown". Not, in itself, a "resort" but with all the hot spots and the beach only 3-blocks away, who needs one?
