Reviews for Lambs Yacht Center
Best boat yard around, 2016-05-13
Captain: , Tempe, AZ (210)

I had my boat bottom painted here on my way going north. they were prompt, professional and did a superb job. In addition, Richard and Shane treated me like one of the family. I highly recommend this yard for any boating services.

Ditto to other recent 5 star reviews, 2016-04-01
Captain: , Boothbay Harbor, Maine (310)

I have stored my boat at Lamb's for the past two seasons (June - March). The covered in water storage is a fantastic feature - certainly more costly than being on the hard outside, but in my opinion worth the extra expense in return for having the boat out of the harsh Florida sun and weather. The boatyard is also a nice hurricane safe facility being well up river where the hurricanes rarely invade. The new ownership has injected enthusiasm and professioinalism into the business. The extended Lamb family are very much involved in the operation and are a delight to deal with. All the service personnel are extremely capable and pleasant to work with. A boat yard truly deserving 5 stars.

Service at its Best, 2016-03-30
Captain: , Bradenton, FL (30)

We recently needed several weeks of maintenance to prepare our Hatteras LRC for a two year offshore trip. We chose Lambs Yacht Center because of its reputation and change of ownership back to the founding family. What a good choice for us!
LYC is a long established company. Many of their employees%u2019 experience is measured in decades. Their knowledge base is unsurpassed, morale is great and we found all of the Lambs personnel to be professional, well trained, polite, helpful and respectful of the fact that our boat is our home. Shane Cawley, the assistant service manager, worked closely with us in coordinating all of the tasks needed to be done. We were able to utilize LYC%u2019s various %u2018experts%u2019 for carpentry, bottom painting, fiberglass repair, Detroit Diesel, transmission, watermaker and stabilizer maintenance. Each of these tasks were handled by separate individuals with years of experience, rather than a single jack of all trades.
The boat yard facilities are also worthy of mention. There are numerous gantry lifts and a 100 ton travel lift to handle a wide range of services and boat sizes. The facilities are clean, organized and well maintained. Their inventory of stocked items is extensive.
Despite the complexity and number of tasks, the overall experience was a very positive one. The prices are good, they are easy to work with and they are impressively fair. Shane%u2019s consistent follow up since our departure has been amazing. A week after leaving, two issues arose pertaining to items that had been worked on. I contacted Shane and the next morning two technicians (one for each issue) arrived at our boat and took care of them %u2013 despite the boat now being 90 minutes away.
LYC is owned and managed by Peggy Sue Williams who is the daughter of the founder. She is revered by her employees and customers and is never shy to pitch in to help or ask if they are achieving our expectations. This is exactly the type of service organization that every boat owner hopes for but not often sees %u2013 nice people with a great work ethic who treat their customers politely and fairly.

Everything In One Place, 2016-03-24
Captain: , Occoquan, VA (456)

Here we have a marina that can be a very nice place to call home or a safe place to leave your boat for a spell to have some work done. Convenient to I95 and Jacksonville airport. Walking distance to grocery shopping, West Marine, restaurants, and more. Management and staff are accessible, professional, and competent - from the receptionist to the owners. Facilities are clean and well maintained.
If you need a service the marina doesn't offer, there are numerous vendors nearby. BDC replaced our canvas and the results were beyond expectations. Timely, high quality, and meticulous results at a fair price.
For the first time in 36 years of boat ownership we paid to have our boat waxed. This was done by Karen's Yacht Services. All I can say is "WOW." The word "amazing" is so overused today, but I tell you that is the right word to describe what Karen and her sidekick Taylor accomplished with our boat. As a bonus, Karen and Taylor are super nice folks. The Lamb's people will provide referral info.
We have travelled many thousands of miles and been the guests of countless marinas. Never have we been so satisfied, so impressed, and so welcome.

ICW Cruise South - 30th Anniversary, 2015-10-29
Captain: , satsuma, fl (58)

On our anniversary trip thru JAX to ICW south, I had a mechanical on one of my engines . Having got a Boat US dispatched to us, I called Lambs and explained my situation. Even though they were very busy, I got a positive can do attitude and directions that they would be standing by on the dock to lend a hand to get my boat in. After arrival, I was told they had a mechanic to take a look and see if this was hopefully something simple or worse a more involved situation. Long story short, I met the new/owner (Lambs Family), service manager and a tech. I was on the way very shortly with my promise to return for some other PM things and upgrades. With such good positive people who really do their best to satisfy their customers %u2013 I know I have finally met the right group of people. Thank you Lambs Yacht Center for getting us back on our anniversary trip. I look forward to my return appointment.

Wonderful management and skilled workforce! These folks care!, 2015-06-13
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (98)

We were met at the dock by one of the owners, Peggy Sue, who helped us tie up and connect power. She then went to the office and brought back the paperwork to get our work started. I thought that was a nice gesture instead of making us come to the office. She offered us the use of her El Camino but we had our own car so passed. Her team, management and workforce, is nothing short of top notch. When it was time to leave and move the short distance to where we were going to leave the boat at The Marina at Ortega Landing, Peggy Sue and two of her delightful daughters helped with the move and then drove me back to Lambs to get our car.

These are really nice people. The work was done perfectly and was reasonable. I wouldn't hesitate recommending this marina to anyone.

New Management's True Colors, 2015-05-29
Captain: , JACKSONVILLE, FL (10)

New owner is very snooty towards live-aboard sailboat cruisers. Monthly mudslip rent was more than doubled with less than a 30 day notice. Stay away from here until after she goes bankrupt or sells out to someone with common sense.

New Management, 2015-04-29
Captain: , Solomons, MD (161)

Lamb's Yacht Center is now back under the Lamb family ownership and management. The changes in only one month are dramatic. docks and buildings are being cleaned up and repaired. Morale with the superb workforce is very high. We had a lot of work done in the engine room and on deck. All work was done expeditiously and professionally. Additionally, we had the flying bridge enclosed by BDC Canvas. Excellent workmanship. We'll be back.

on my way north, 2015-04-18
Captain: , Fair Haven NY (40)

keeping my boat at Lambs for a month. can only say positive comments. kind of place you want them to be very successful since their intent and service is very positive. the only--remoted related--thing that makes this half sailor half motorboater nervous is when the water is less than 7 feet.

Outstanding Marina, 2015-04-07
Captain: , Guntersville (100)

Arrived at Lamb's in Jan, needed some maintenance services - They have a fantastic capability and did all the services I needed. Good technicians and reasonable prices. I had a good experience with the Nightengales as owners. But the Lamb's are back as owners and they are making great improvements. Went out of their way to get me out and back on the Loop!!

New ownership april 2015, 2015-03-27
Captain: , Saint Augustine (10)

Lambs are back , Bronson Lambs sister Peggy sue and her husband Johnnie Williams are now the owners. Nice to have it back in the Lambs family. Great plans for improvement and upgrades. They want to welcome all their previous guests and look forward to giving them first class service from an upgraded facility. Stop by you will be glad you did.

Great Place 11/30/2014, 2015-01-03
Captain: , Kuttawa Kentucky (410)

Left boat here for Christmas vacation. Came back to work on my diesel generartor for a couple days. Put on fuel. Lambs can find just about any part you need. Staff was super nice and dock master was there to help in anything I needed. It is about 19 miles from the ICW on the St.Jones River, but worth the trip if you need to stay for a while and needed any repairs. Everything is within 2 miles.. Walmart, Lowes, Groceries, you name it, it is withing 2 miles. Thank You Cooper for all you assistance. Enjoyed the short time I was there.. Great Place.

The best in Jax area and maybe the Atlantic Coast!, 2014-12-12
Captain: , Brunswick, Geo. San Francisco Bay (10)

We kept our boat under cover from April 2014 to December 2014...they took extra care to check on the boat and give us a report every month. Cooper is fabulous to work with. Good night security patrol...regular and thorough. Marina is within walking distance of West Marine, Publix, Steinmart, Belks, Chickfilet, KFC, Taco Bell, Chinese, Japanese, Starbucks, CVS, Nail Salong, and Longhorn Steak...several good canvas places near by as well. Good jumping off place for the St John River trip.

Outstanding People, 2014-10-15
Captain: , Naples Fl (10)

If you shouild have Diesel Engines (Cummins) and should you need any service on them, you must go to the World's Best Marina, Lambs Yacht Center on the St Johns River, Jacksonville. Traveling from Naples Florida to New York this Marina was highly recommended by my regular mechanic after losing my Port Engine. Being eight hours away on Starboard Engine I was very hesitent on making the trip, but as things turned out it was a great decission. I dealt with Friendly, knowledgeable, honest, dedicated employees who eventually had to pull out the Port Engine and make all the necessary tests and proper repairs. They even help me with my lousy insurance company who claimed that with about 500 hours on this diesel engine the damage was caused by "wear and Tear" eventhough these engines are designed for 5 thousand hours. Contact Downing Nightingale, CEO or Richard Pumphrey, Service Manager (904-384-5577 / for Caring, Wonderful, Outstanding People who will treat you right !!!

Great storage and service, 2014-10-11
Captain: , Port Lavaca, TX (441)

We stored our boat here from about April till September 2014. Wonderful place for under cover and doing things like teak work. Also, everyone was just wonderful to us. Helping us dock, getting bottom job, replaced packing, hull polishing, advice on other repairs. Very satisfied with all work. Highly recommend the staff here for their expertise.

Covered slips, 2014-04-04
Captain: , Herrington Harbour, MD (680)

2014 We stored our boat here for from May 2013 to March 2014 under cover. A great place to keep your boat under cover and out of the weather. Richard and Bill took care of several items and serviced the two engines. A first class marina with very experienced people. We will return again.

Helpful staff, good services around, 2014-03-07
Captain: , Newcastle upon Tyne (463)

Stayed here after refuelling, used laundry and walked to Publix and chandlery nearby. Convenience store close by. Good value.

Great Location and Service with a Smile, 2014-02-20
Captain: , Bear DE (694)

We needed a Pump out after staying next door at Huckins for a week. Downing meet us cheerfully at the Fuel dock. There was no charge for the pump out and he refused a tip. These are nice facilities and friendly people %u2013 we now even consider renting a covered slip at Lambs in the future.

Transcient slip, 2014-02-12
Captain: , Camp Lejeune, NC (180)

Stayed two nights. Very friendly staff. Was provided an undercover slip at no additional cost. Reasonable rate. Grocery store within walking distance. Pump out was free. Old wooden docks but in good shape. No current when docking

Great Place for Reliable Repairs, 2014-02-01
Captain: , Oriental, NC (80)

Had the bottom painted, prop reshaped, and engine-shaft alignment. They are most accomodating. While they were on Christmas/NewYears holiday, they allowed me to stay on the Service Dock w/power, water & free pumpout- for 5 nights before I was scheduled for service. Ray did a fabulous job on the alignment. Vibration now gone. Service was prompt and cost was reasonable. All employees were most accommodating and helpful. I highly recommend Lambs for service and repairs.

2000 hr service for yanmar diesels (not quite), 2013-04-27
Captain: , Oviedo (306)

I specifically asked about the valve lapping, and injector service that Yanmar specifies for the 2000 hr service.
Neither were actually done. Cost me over $2000 for things that I could have done myself - Oil change, filter, belts, impellers.

Great Repair Facility, 2013-04-06
Captain: , Richardson, TX (552)

We went to Lambs in Dec '12 with the idea that we'd leave the boat there and go home for the holidays and also to have the boat hauled for a bottom job and other maintenance. We ended up being there for 2 months due to the yard closing for Christmas/New Years which we hadn't anticipated. We were on the hard for over 2 wks due to parts being back ordered, but the marina was very accomodating and gave us a space heater to use when the temps dropped. The mechanics and carpenter were very professional and did excellent work, everything was completed as requested. Lamb's is definitely more of a working yard than transient marina but the price is right, bathrooms are clean and we didn't mind that walk, we can always use the exercise! Publix/West Marine are in a good shopping center all about 1/2 a mile away and Chamblin's Book Mine, an absolute dream for readers. You can turn your unwanted books in for store credit which we took advantage of.

OK for what it is, 2013-02-17
Captain: , Topsail Beach, NC (480)

This is a basic yard, somewhat dated. Fixed docks made getting on and off the boat very awkward. At low tide climbing off with dog in tow was difficult. Long walk to shore, and bathroom facilities are a long distance away from transient dock.

On the plus side, they are very convenient to grocery, West Marina, and several nice restaurants....all an easy walk or bike ride away. Also, easy walk to Chamblain's Bookmine, a used bookstore that is a must visit...unbelievable.

Also on the plus side was free pumpout and aluminum recycling bins.

Also, we had an engine problem while at Lamb's and their repair was quick and efficient and very reasonable.

Great place with very accommodating staff, 2013-01-31
Captain: , Corpus Christi,Tx (1569)

Left our boat here for the months of Dec and Jan while we went home for the holidays. Had some work done which was completed as requested. Facility is dated but well clean and maintained. Well worth the price. We will be back.

Great location for repairs and long term dockage, 2012-10-16
Captain: , Rockport, Texas (130)

The staff at Lamb's is knowledgeable, attentive and friendly. They go out of thier way to be of assistance. We had to take an unexpected hiatus in our "Loop" trip and left our boat in their care. We are very pleased with this organization.

Haul out/survey, 2012-08-29
Captain: , Jacksonville, FL (30)

Contracted for a haul out & powerwash so that my surveyor could complete his survey. Lamb's was quick to schedule the haul out and the boat was back in the water before noon. Excellent service and the price was very reasonable.

Safe place to hide from Hurricanes, 2012-08-08
Captain: , Bonita Springs, FL (411)

This is our first year at Lambs YC but it will not be the last. This is an outstanding long term storage yard with a great repair facility if you need any work done. The staff is both knowledgeable and friendly. We can rest easy knowing our boat is under a cement roof with fixed cement docks on both sides. Thanks to Active Captain for pointing this place out to us. It is also easy access to the airport JAX.

Great Place for storage, 2012-07-09
Captain: , Charlotte Harbor, FL (1548)

We stayed here for long term storage in 2011. It's a very secure facility with solid concrete docks and many are covered with concrete roofing. It would be a good hurricane hole in FL.

It doesn't get any better, 2012-06-21
Captain: , New Bern (20)

We moved our 58' Hatt to JAX to put it undercover for the hot summer months at Lambs. I reserved a covered slip but upon arrival William Niceley, the dockmaster and I determined the vertical clearance or lack thereof was not enough. He immediately decided to move us to an 80' slip with higher clearance at no additional monthly charge. This dock is a battleship. All concrete roof/piers/piles. I feel very safe at this location during most any storm. I worked on the outside of the boat that last day and saw William no less than 3 times making the rounds, checking on the boats. His comment to me was not to worry, he will keep an eye on her. I believe he will.

If you have never had your larger boat under a covered slip in June - OMG what a treat to work on the outside with the breeze and no sun, even with ambient temperatures in the low 90s.

Excellent Service and Customer Support, 2012-06-14
Captain: , Portsmouth, NH (274)

The staff and yard crew are very professional and helpful. It was particularly hot while we were on the hard having the bottom painted. One afternoon a portable ac unit arrived and was installed to make our stay more comfortable.

Tropical Storm Beryl, 2012-05-31
Captain: , Midway,GA (261)

Before the storm arrived the staff were out walking the docks seeing what needed to be done for the boats of absentee owners and offering help to the owners that were on-board. All night long the staff walked the docks keeping an eye on all the boats. Also they rescued a dock that broken loose from up the river. I keep my boat at Lambs and this was the first time I have seen them getting ready for a storm and I will say I am much relieved after seeing first hand the preperation they go thru for the owners that dock at Lambs. I will sleep a lot better the next time a storm is a brewing knowing my boat is in good hands at Lambs

great marina, 2012-05-29
Captain: , shoreham ny (333)

william the dock master is the best. he goes out of his way to service all his customers. we were there for the last tropical storm Beryl, that came thru. william stayed up all night making sure all the boats were safe. if i lived in the area there would be no question that i would keep my boat at Lambs.

Excellent, Helpful Staff, 2012-05-08
Captain: , Seabrook, TX (323)

William Nicely, dockmaster; Downing Nightingale, owner; and Cooper Nightingale, owner's son, pilot, and sometime assistant, could not have been more helpful during our week's stay here. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon, having reserved a car for 7:30 the next a.m. so that we could drive down to Stuart to pick up our own vehicle. No courtesy car, but Cooper offered to give us a ride to the car rental place at 7 a.m. - so nice of him! Tom flew home from Jacksonville airport the next day, and Doris felt perfectly safe at the marina during his absence.

We ended up paying for a month since there was no weekly rate, and monthly ended up being less expensive. Free pump-out with a monthly rate, and electricity was cheaper that way, as well. Boats not staying at the marina come in for their good, less expensive fuel; we took advantage of the good rate, also. Laundry is free and the machines are new and good, but there's only one washer and one dryer.

We left the truck in their parking lot while we cruised the St. John's River, and then left it for over a week after we took off again up the ICW, and that was not a problem for them.

Downing sat down with Doris and gave detailed information on the St. John's River, local knowledge which we could not have done without. He, Cooper, and William were ever-smiling and unsparing with their time.

Good walking/riding neighborhood around the marina, and you can get to a big shopping center (Publix, Starbucks, Bell's, Panera, Verizon, smoothie place [yummy]) via bike. If you have a car, try going to Avondale and Five Points for dining and shopping: quaint and lovely.

Marine store has good service, fair supply (will order for you), and prices better than West Marine, at least for the part we got. Nice polo shirts, too.

Why not 5 stars? Transient docks are far from showers, bathrooms, and laundry, and there's no courtesy car and no pool. This is more of a long-term storage facility and repair facility than a spot for transients, but it worked fine for us. We can highly recommmend this marina for its service and friendliness.

Great Place for Catamarans, 2012-04-23
Captain: , Sarasota FL (10)

We left our catamaran for three months and were very pleased. We were charged $7/ft. per month and $36 for 30 amp. elec. When I had called another marina nearby, they could only put our 17' beam in a 40+ft slip, and we would have to pay for the length of the slip! But at Lamb's, we were in a long slip, but only paid for our actual boat length. If you stay for 6 months, the last three months are half-price!
They also did excellent repair work on our boat generator, props, and dinghy engine. It was great that they had a lift wide enough for us!

Great place to leave boat, 2012-04-01
Captain: , Indiana (10)

This is truly a geat place to leave your boat. Concrete covered slips that look like they could hold up to any hurricane. William, the go to guy, is knowlegable an very helpful. Location is great ... within walking distance to shopping center. No courtesy car, but Mr. Nightengale, owner, drove us to a car rental place. All in all a very pleasant experience. We look forward to retuning in the fall and cruising the St. Johns River.

Great sheltered marina, 2012-03-16
Captain: , St. Lucie River (158)

Our second time here and still think it is great. Diesel @4.35 with a .03 discount for spending the night. Got a tieup on the inside fuel channel so wakes were not an issue. Lost my mobile the day before but there is an ATT store in the mall .5 miles away so was able to replace with minimal inconvenience. Longhorn rest in same mall was good also. No pool and the shower and toilets can be a longish hike.

Captain: , ISLAMORADA, FL (10)

Only stopped for fuel, 2011-10-29
Captain: , Cincinnati (1800)

Gentleman at fuel dock was very friendly and helpful. VERY close quarters to get into dock for fuel with other boats in the fuel slip being worked? on. It was probably tight because there was two of us coming in for fuel. Would not have been so bad if we didn't need to be so tight to get us both in there with the other boats in same slips.

Excellent Value, 2011-08-14
Captain: , Sanford, Florida (20)

Lamb's is a very good working yard marina. Docks are excellent. Dockmaster William is on hand 24/7 and is very helpful. We did not need to use showers or laundry, so can not comment. Large shopping center with Publix Supermarket, Belk's Dpt, various shops/restaurants is 1/2 mile away ($5 cab ride). Only down side is that although it supposed to be a no wake zone, no-one observes it (including law enforcement). We spent three days on the outside face dock in our 54' boat. There were some uincomfortable times, prticulalry on weekends. It dod calm down at night. Anything smaller than 40' would want an inside slip facing the river. You can't beat the value, however.

Great marina & well protected, 2011-05-13
Captain: , Cruising (55)

We are basing (again) out of Lamb's Yacht Center and it is a good facility for keeping our boat. They have covered docks as well as open and it is as protected a marina as we have been in. They have a large service department and have a 100 ton lift to handle very large boats. Access to east coast cruising is readily available and the St. John's river is a really nice river to cruise.

Marina support and kindness, 2011-03-31
Captain: , Springfield, VA (130)

For the second time in 2 years we spent a few weeks at Lamb's Yacht Center for canvas work from our favorite company BDC Canvas. Because our arrival was to be after the normal work day, we were concerned about finding our assigned slip. William, the dockmaster, called us a couple of times just to ensure that he would be present when we arrived. The owner came to our boat and welcomed us to his marina.

We recommend Lamb's to anyone visiting Jacksonville or cruising the St. John's River.

Service and integrity, 2009-06-17
Captain: , Jacksonville FL (84)

On May 30, 2009 we had our 44 foot Regal hauled to service the IPS pods. When out of the water it was discovered that two of the of the four props were damaged. We needed them fixed quickly since we were leaving the next day. It was noon when this was discovered. Captain Jim Cassell called a few prop shops and one of them agreed to take a look at the damage. Lamb's pulled the props, and along with another set I had, took them to the shop. On short notice, they were unable to fix all of then but they did fix the two I needed. We I went to pay the bill Jim said they didn't charge Lambs anything so I didn't owe anything for the prop repair. He didn't have to tell me that and could have charged several hundred dollars and I would have paid it. The work they did on the pods was excellent and the price was less than quoted by other shops. The mechanics were knowledgabel and friendy. Downing Nightingale helped me carry gear off the boat and wanted to make sure everything that what I needed was being taken care of. I found out later that he was the CEO of Lambs. One last thing, they didn't charge me for a slip space with electric. I stayed 3 days. Once again, excellant service.

Multiple visits, 2009-01-11
Captain: , Braselton GA (226)

Have stayed at Lambs three-fours times for several days & weeks at a time. One of few covered docks (concrete) in FL. Kinda tight for larger boats but workable. Services are average to good. All kinds of engine/hull work are available for power boats up to 80 ft. Good shopping closeby and downtown Jacksonville is closeby for an evenings run down to free city dock. Trips down (up) the St. John's can be begun from this area. Not accessible to sail due to bridges.
