Reviews for Lambs Marina
Nice basic marina, 2016-06-08
Captain: , Wiscasset, Maine (280)

The dockmaster Bill gave us a warm reception, helped us to tie-up and offered us use of the courtesy car.

The marina shelters a collection of 'casually maintained' vessels and some long term live-aboards and is surrounded by a residential trailer park.

The facilities were peaceful and quiet. Everyone was polite and friendly. (A local liveaboard couple offered us lettuce from their garden.) The restaurant was sparkling clean, offering fresh local food at an astonishingly low price.

We filled up with diesel knowing that because of the low fuel price, larger vessels regularly choose this place for refueling.

This is our favourite marina!

Nice place with good people, 2016-05-21
Captain: , kansas city (40)

Good food, good prices, helpful dock master and plenty of helping hands if you have a big project. Would stay there again

Great rural marina, 2016-05-10
Captain: , Oriental, NC (71)

Pulled in Easter Sunday, Mar 27, 2016 and it was after 5:00

Bill is a friendly and fantastic dockmaster, tells a good story and is kind.
The bathhouse / cruisers lounge was clean and comfortable. Rates are good, you can always tell by the number of liveaboards in a marina, and Lambs has plenty.

The liveaboard/locals were laid back, very cool. Fuel prices are good, we stayed two nights and will stop here each time we are passing through.

Funky and friendly, 2016-04-22
Captain: , Rowayton, CT (199)

April 2016 - two boats pulled after receiving a bashing crossing Albermarle Sound - Bill and Larry were the epitome of hospitality - what a great place. While some of the boats seem a little derelict, you could not ask to meet nicer people either on the docks, in the restaurant or in the store. And the rest room / laundry facility was kept spotless and welcoming. Definite fave!

October 2015 - Pulled in for diesel and breakfast and were also allowed to use their showers. Bill is a great dock master and the store is well stocked. Will return.

Best Marina in North Carolina, 2016-01-23
Captain: , Maverick too, Hamburg (40)

We sailed across the atlantic ocean from europe and were looking for a place to stay during hurricane-season. Thats when someone told us about Lambs Marina. We were in the Bahamas by that time, but it sounded like a great place and so we set sail.
The place was even better. When we first came into the Marina Dockmaster Bill said "Welcome Home!" %u2013 and thats exacly how we felt the next three month we spent there. We met many wonderful people and made great friends.
And we will definitely come back someday.
When you are coming through the Dismal-Swamp-Canal, stopp at Lambs Marina. The Dockside-Grill is a wonderful little restaurant with great food (and affordable!). The store is well stocked. And if you need anything else, there is a courtesy car you can use to go to Elizabeth City. We can highly recommend this place!

friendly old style marina and a bargin, 2015-11-09
Captain: , baltimore md (644)

We stopped in on 11/5/15. We called ahead and got Larry the owner and he was very helpful. Bill the dock master called back with instructions were to dock. It all went well. We ate at the grille with some other transits and had a good meal and conversation. Tiffanie our waitress was spot on. We enjoyed our 1 night stay. The store was very well stocked. We bought a doz eggs..the biggest we have ever seen. Wine & beer also available.

Friendly Little Marina, 2015-11-08
Captain: , Oriental, NC (190)

Return visit: Stayed a week (9/21/15 thru 9/27/15) waiting out wet, windy and wicked weather. Still very welcoming and friendly. Took advantage of the loaner car. Bathrooms still need a good cleaning, but diesel pumps are fixed which is why it gets 4 stars this time.

We enjoyed our one night stay 7/1/15. Easy access off the Pasquotank. Dockmaster Bill met us at the docks. Lots of live aboards there. Store was well stocked and restaurant was busy. We sat on the porch of the restaurant and chatted with the locals. Very welcoming and friendly. I am giving it three stars because the diesel pumps weren't working and the bathrooms could have been cleaner. But even considering those two things, we would go back.

Very nice Marina., 2015-08-12
Captain: , Edgewater, MD (75)

A very nice spot to stop, fill er up, fill the belly and fill the pantry. Nice selection all in all. Good Food, great employee's and as others have stated, a courtesy car. What more could you ask for?

Great Food and People, 2015-06-30
Captain: , Smithfield, VA (40)

We have stopped at Lambs several times. The grill has great food. The people are friendly. Facilities are being improved, but still need work.

Great Little Marina, 2015-06-22
Captain: , oriental nc (10)

Stopped here mid June to top up fuel at 4pm on a hot Friday. Their diesel pump was down but they provided 3 5 gal jerry cans - unfortunately at the bottom of the last can there was a lot of crud that went into the tank. At that point the Marina owner, Larry Lamb was suddenly at the fuel dock, smelled the funnel and said he thought there may have been old gas in the jerry can when it was filled. He assured me they would remove the fuel and replace it. He. Bill the dockmaster, and a friend/mechanic worked for the next 4 hours pumping the tank dry (40 gallons). He invited us to have dinner at their cafe that evening at his expense, and of course provided the night's dockage.
Next morning at 8AM Bill was at the boat with new jerrry cans of diesel and promptly refilled our tanks with good diesel. I was impressed at how they dealt with the unfortunate situation, but also with the marina itself - since we had a chance to use the facilities.
The Cafe was clean (99.5 health rating), attractive, and served very good food at good prices. Their new "convenience" store was well stocked and could provide quite a lot in the way of supplies. The boaters lounge was clean and comfortable, as were the showers, which were actually airconditioned individual self contained bathrooms - very nice! They charge $35(electric included) for the first night, $30 for additional nights to transient boats. They can do propane fills on site, sell no ethanol gas, and provide a courtesy car (Lowes 5 miles away). We have been im many marinas in many countries and have to say Lambs stands out for the quality of its personell, services provided, facility amenities, and value.

Beat up on the river?, come here!, 2015-06-01
Captain: , Nowhere,OK (1314)

We came here on a windy (15-20) day, so the winds and waves were smacking Elizabeth City to tears. We passed under the bridge, around the railroad bridge and came in to their secluded basin. No wind, no waves, life is good!

We have a 45 powerboat so it was an easy swing into the first slip. Ones farther in will take some more skill, but the owner says they have 60' in the basin.

Great little store, and the little cafe is fun. The loaner car will get you into Elizabeth City in a few minutes. Another of our family run marina's with great residents. Didn't use the bath house, but the laundry was good.

We had a blast and this will be a place we will stop again on our way through the Dismal Swamp.

Interesting place, nice people, 2015-04-29
Captain: , Ft Myers, Florida (1663)

A live aboard Marina, with a very tight fairway and Turing basin. We are a 48 ft 24 ft beam power cat and we fit barely. Offer diesel and non ethanol gas. At foot of dock is a family run 7-11 type store with a homey restaurant. Restroom was clean, did not use the shower. Loaner car was very good, free and available for several hrs. We went into Elizabeth City to a very good restaurant for dinner and visited the CVS.
Had an OK breakfast before departing in the morning. About 4 miles to the first lock.
Be sure to call ahead as they are very limited on transient docking space.
Owner is very helpful and kind.

Outstanding service!!, 2015-01-02
Captain: , Halifax NS. (382)

Stayed here back in October when we were heading south. Pulled in because a storm was coming. Had winds over 40kts. Dockmaster Bill rounded up a crew to help us in and get secured before the blow hit. The restaurant was fantastic. Great food at low prices. They gave us a courtesy car to use whenever we wanted. The showers were very clean. Bill couldn't do enough for us. We stayed 3 days while the water came back in. Bill went out in his punt several times to sound the channel to see when we could leave. We will go back again!

A Great Fuel Stop, 2014-12-07
Captain: , Onancock, VA (172)

I only stopped for diesel and propane (they top up tanks) but couldn't have asked for more. Friendly and helpful and everyone jumps in to help. I carry fifty feet including bowsprit so the fuel dock was a tight fit and the help most appreciated. The most convenient fuel stop arouind Elizabeth City.

tom jones Annapolis Blue Trust, 2014-12-02
Captain: , Annapolis (10)

During our run through So Mills lock my wife caught her hand between the line and the lock cleat. We hurried on to get emergency care in Elizabeth city. Lambs Marina was the first marina so I called ahead to alert them of the situation and requested fast docking so I could arrange transport her to emerg care. The dock master Bill not only had a few hands to expedite docking but also had a car waiting to speed Cathy to the hospital he remained with us until she was made whole (5stitches) and drove us back to the boat. We stayed on a few days for her to heal. and were welcomed by a host of staff and fellow boaters. The marina was clean with diesel and propane and made special by the folks there.
We had our prop cleaned by Mike Mayo a local diver who was thorough and quite reasonable
We heartily recommend Bill and his team at Lambs Marina

First time is the charm, 2014-11-16
Captain: , Cape Canaveral (1101)

Our first stop and well worth it. Bill the dock master was great - helpful, knowledgeable, available, and friendly. Clean bathrooms. Courtesy car OK. Restuarant had good food at reasonable prices. Well protected harbor only 10 minutes from Elizabeth City. Not much else to ask for, though pump out would complete the package. We'll be back.

Great service and wind protection, 2014-10-31
Captain: , Portsmouth, NH (10)

Entrance depth is more than reported, we had no problem getting in here with a 5 1/2 foot draft. There were friendly people, gas and diesel, water, internet, showers, laundry, restaurant, and courtesy car all at a very reasonable price.

Stopped for Fuel and got Minor Groceries too, 2014-10-14
Captain: , Lizella GA (1414)

I stopped in for fuel since it is the only place I could find in the Elisabeth City area with fuel. The dock Master was great, friendly and helpful. The little store was a surprise since it had basic groceries and a little grill. All the folks were so nice. It was a good expereince stopping here.

A nice stop, 2014-05-31
Captain: , None. (67)

Stopped for diesel. Market prices. Asked about the restaurant and was told that it's only open for breakfast and lunch, but that there's a good family style restaurant across the street for dinner.

The entrance is marked by a sign and white PVC stakes on both sides of a tight channel. We saw only 7 feet at the entrance, but 8+ feet the rest of the way in. Tight space in the marina but they were monitoring the radio and met us at the fuel dock. Because of the relatively tight space, it's a good idea to call ahead before bringing a boat bigger than 45 feet into this marina.

Fuel dock is at the far end, next to the store. Separate pumps for gas and diesel (no more tanker truck, it seems). Store is well stocked with general convenience items and sundries.

Great Hole, 2014-05-17
Captain: , Wimauma, Fl. (54)

well off the river for protection and not too close to the highway for noise. Car is here for use, marina restarant will open 5/27, check out the repurposed counter top, the tree was on property when growing now as a counter top. It will be really nice when open. Nice store for some supplies and restarant across the hwy.
Only limitation is that marina is small so call ahead to be safe. Newer Captain Lounge, washers, toilet/showers(3).

Good Place to Stop, 2014-05-16
Captain: , St. Clair, Michigan (456)

The other reviews are right on in their assessment and observations. The new fuel dock appears to be functional although I did not fuel there. The store renovation is nearing completion and although the store has been termed a grocery store it is more of a convenience store with a few grocery items like eggs and juice. We were pushing the max length at 45' with a dingy hanging off the back but they had a slip to accomodate us and it was real nice and quite. A good choice over the Town Docks that had a southerly wind coming into them.

A real surprise , 2014-02-23
Captain: , Portsmouth NH (450)

First sight is a little off-putting. It is effectively a trailer park with boats and a tad scruffy, but this was actually one of the best places we stayed on the Intercoastal. Great dock master, supermarket on site, courtesy car, incredibly sheltered, clean bathrooms and laundry facilities (drier was broken so Dave took our stuff to his house and dried it for us), fuel bought to your boat, incredible value What's not to like? Certainly a nice change from some of the over-priced fancy marinas we had used.

Great People 19 Dec 2013, 2013-12-23
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, FL (280)

Very narrow entrance with 6 feet or better. Very good value $35 per night includes electric, showers and courtesy car. Still no working fuel dock. Diesel from a truck along side the dock. For gas, they took us to a nearby station to fill 5 gallon cans, enough to comfortably make the Alligator River. Courtesy car was broken, so the dock master gave us his own car to use. Great experience. Will be 5 stars when fuel dock is available.

Great Surprise, 2013-11-14
Captain: , Muskegon, MI (738)

We stayed here on 10/21/13, on our way through the Dismal Swamp. What a pleasant experience, as others have said, the diesel is pumped right out of the marina's truck at the "T" Head. The total cost was $35. for dockage, electric, and the use of the "loaner car". This is a very protected marina, it is protected from all directions. It is mostly a live aboard and long term dockage marina, but Dave, the dockmaster, helps in every way he can to make your stay pleasant.

Good overnighter, 2013-11-12
Captain: , Hampton, VA (90)

Good place to spend the night. Marina staff helpful and very friendly. The entrance is narrow but carried 8' or more all the way in. The shower and bath house facilities were very clean and comfortable. As of Nov 10 2013, they are in the process of remodeling part of the marina, but it doesn't affect anything.

Don't let the scruffy look deter you!, 2013-09-28
Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (1187)

Fuel dock is a T dock to which Dave, the dockmaster, drives a tanker truck from which fuel is dispensed via a hose to your boat. Spent night a the T dock for $35 including water and electric! Nice clean showers and working laundry facility. Across the street is a great seafood restaurant; Track 1.

The grey trailer next to the T Dock is the video poker casino. Open all night, but no bother to the boat.

This is primarily a live abaord marina.

Fuel Dock Renovation, 2013-09-10
Captain: , Elizabeth City, NC (31)

The marina is under some renovation which includes the fuel dock. So with that said the is no fuel available at this time. They hope to have fuel back on line in a week. All other services are available with a smile.

Lamb's Marina, 2013-06-24
Captain: , Abilene, TX (210)

agree with reviews below, we are 49' with dinghy and marina is tight but doable, if you or N bound and want to make the first opening Lamb's is the right choice. Didn't really get off boat other than to check in and refill propane. all staff was very friendly and helpful.

Nothing Fancy, All Good, 2013-06-10
Captain: , Mount Vernon Va (65)

We arrived 6/6/13 in advance of TS Andrea. we had reservations at another marina in Elizabeth City Harbor, but arrived to find that it provided no shelter. We turned back to Lambs and found a very welcoming, snug shelter. Dave the dock master could not have been more helpful. Store was well stocked. Laundry and showers were very clean and well maintained. We took advantage of thier offer of a loaner car to visit Elizabeth city. Gas and Diesel were available. No pump out facility. We would visit again.

It's expanding - well worth the stop., 2013-05-24
Captain: , London, UK (336)

We stopped for fuel. Easy access for our 5.5.ft draft. Totally protected harbour. They are currently in the throes of building a restaurant on site. The Grocery store had a wide range of products fresh, frozen, packet, canned, bottled plus some fruit and vegetables. We bought some freshly caught tuna. Good prices. Well worth the stop. Extremely helpful and friendly. Good flat rate for marina fee. courtesy cars available.

Very Friendly and Secure, 2013-04-26
Captain: , Mount Sinai (31)

Right off the ICW, channel marked with pvc pipe. Total protection from wind or wakes. Friendly people, eclectic boats with live-aboards. Restrooms very clean, new.

Super nice people, 2013-04-03
Captain: , Peoria, AZ (10)

Small marina shallow last time I was there but Lrry had plans to dredge. Radio before entering. Very clean captains shower and tv building. Store has basic necessaties. Country restraut accross the street. Larry has a loner pickup truck for mariners to use at no charge. (I throw some gas in) In elizabeth city all major services, medical enters, restraunts, hardware stores etc are available, Norfolk is only a easy 6 mile or so drive away. If you have to make a plane there i usually someone around that will take you to airport for a reasonable fee. Lambs Marina is right at the entrence of the dismal swamp. He has Diesel and Marine gas at his fuel dock. He has been so hepful and pleasant to me that it is a "must stop" when I am in the area
Al Voisine

A great place, 2013-01-30
Captain: , Pensacola, Fl. (136)

I just want to say that I am very glad the swing bridge was closed for the day. I stopped in and was treated to the warmest welcome. They treated us great. Fuel was cheap and so was the two nights we stayed. The bath houses were keeped real clean by who my wife said was a sweet, sweet lady. If we ever get back that way again we will stay with them for sure. Thanks Larry
P.S. It was 1-25-2013 when we were there and had to break ice to get in. 1/2"in some spots. Not a bad thing.... it was kinda fun.

Great Fuel Price, 2012-11-18
Captain: , Miami Beach (630)

11/1/12 was when we were there. We stopped on our way into EC to get fuel. It was interesting to watch their own diesel truck pull up and then get the fuel from the truck. It was a little tight inside the marina but we managed. Very helpful, friendly people. Would recommend.

Great People and great value, 2012-11-08
Captain: , Newport Oregon (260)

We pulled in here after going through the Dismal Swamp and one of the dock workers Mike asked if we needed any work done while where were here and I said I could use my mast installed and te next day there was a Boom truck onsite and we installed the mast! Great price and had a nice stop, we ended up staying 2 nights.

Great Staff! , 2012-11-07
Captain: , Annapolis (1465)

Left our boat here for five days while we drove home. A number of live aboards add to the security. Dockmaster Dave is great and will do just about anything to make your stay enjoyable. Courtesy car available and there a two Enterprise locations in E'City.

Dismal Swamp Cruise, 2012-09-06
Captain: , Beaufort, NC (282)

Nothing fancy about Lambs but has old fashion hospilality. Rest room very clean and air conditioned. Local boaters were very friendly. Dave the dockmaster was very helpful and went out of his way to accomodate us. Deep water in and out in well marked channel.

Good fuel stop with propane available also, 2012-05-05
Captain: , Cape Coral, FL (1476)

This is a funky little marina on the back side of a gas station/convenience store/fish market. Gasoline is pumped from gas pumps dockside, while diesel is pumped from their own tanker truck which is brought to the fuel dock. Great price on diesel - best in north NC at the time we bought it; fuel was fresh - delivery received the day before. We filled up our diesel tanks, filled up our water tanks, topped off our propane tanks in their on-site propane filling station, and dropped off our garbage. The depths on the way in were never less than 7.5 feet but usually 8. Very friendly staff who are very willing to help out. We chose not to stay the night only because we wanted to be in Elizabeth City for the evening cruisers party.

Good cheap friendly, 2011-11-28
Captain: , Fremantle, West Australia (1448)

Not the most modern marina in the world but good value for money. Excellent showers. Good convenience store at the gas station, which is part of the complex. Not much room for big boats. Staff are top of the range people.

The only game in town!, 2011-02-06
Captain: , Gloucester, VA (514)

The cove leading into Lambs Marina is a bit tight and can get crouded especally at the fuel docks. Friendly staff. I just wish there were somewhere else to get fuel near Elezabeth City..

A marina for the rest of us, 2011-01-12
Captain: , Baton, NC (393)

We kept out 34' boat berthed at Lamb's for several years. Not fancy nor exclusive. However, reasonable rates, good service, and good neighbors.

Convenient fuel stop?, 2009-10-14
Captain: , Old Saybrook, CT (1021)

We stopped for fuel here and found a very friendly staff and a nice convenience store, including a fish market. We had to wait about a half hour for the fuel truck to drive down to the dock to fuel us up.

inexpensive marina, 2009-06-07
Captain: , Key Largo (5330)

fixed docks water, electric, not top notch, laundry was broke, but dockage very inexpensive. Stored the boat here for a few weeks once and in 09 for a week for a real inexpesive price! protected.
