Reviews for Laishley Park Municipal Marina
Great Stay, 2016-05-26
Captain: , Melbourne,Fl (10)

Had a great stay at the Marina visting Friends, Rusty the dock Master is doing a fine job. Keep it up!

Punta Gorda is a nice town, 2016-03-09
Captain: , Annapolis (2677)

The docks are in good shape. Loaner bicycles are a great asset for going shopping. The town has many nice restaurants and shops. We were disappointed by the number of rundown and neglected boats in the marina over all we thought the price was a bit high given the few amenities. Subsequent exploration indicates that Fisherman's village will be our choice next visit to Punta Gorda.

Great Marina in a Great City, 2016-02-15
Captain: , Oriental, NC (30)

Laishley Park Marina is a modern, very well maintained facility in the heart of downtown Punta Gorda. Helpful, friendly staff, nice floating docks, very nice captain's lounge, nice laundry (two washers, two dryers, $1.00 each), clean, modern, private heads and showers. Touring the town is easy with free loaner bikes, and a couple of trikes for groceries. Harbor Walk is great, many good restaurants and bars nearby, onsite Crab House is great. West Marine, Licquor store, Publix, all an easy bike ride from the marina. Would be five stars but the basin can be uncomfortable in strong northwest blow. Great marina, great staff, in a wonderful town.

great dockmaster and value, 2016-01-28
Captain: , Buffalo (832)

We came in because we had to return north and leave our boat for ten days. The only thing available was a mooring, but we doubled the lines and shut off the fridge. When we returned, we avoided most damage in a wind storm, but a call into the dockmaster assured us that they were watching our trawler. When we arrived another front was approaching and they found us a slip to stay for two nights. Rusty and his staff was wonderful. A nice hotel and a nice restaurant next door. Everything worked. Wifi was sketchy on the moorings, but okay in the slips with our booster. Laundry and showers were very clean. Thank you...

Nice location but rotten WiFi, 2015-12-14
Captain: , Ocala FL (351)

Staff is EXCELLENT. Met at the dock (and provided him with good entertainment as we attempted a stern docking) and assisted us in and with power connection. Office staff very helpful and courteous.
WiFi however, sucks! Using a Wirie Amplifier, I receive a good signal, but the transfer rate is from 1 (one) to less than 10 (ten) Mbit/s. I can't even download my e-mail let alone open up NOAA radar. I've had to fire up my own Verizon Jet Pak to get on this site.
Otherwise, I'd rate the marina significantly higher.

ANTS on day dock, 2015-11-12
Captain: , ft pierce fl (40)

Nov 11: we just got out of dry dock, with our newly painted, spotless sailboat and were looking forward to picking up a mooring outside Laishley Marina...
We waited till low tide to get under the Rt 41 bridge, then headed to the free day dock to pay for a mooring ball, take showers, and get the holding tank pumped. The day docks are free, new and clean looking; they parallel healthy mangroves which block some of the noise and view of the non stop bridge traffic.
Rusty was as nice as noted in many reviews the marina clean, the bathrooms and lounge clean and welcoming. We borrowed free bikes for lunch ( though downtown restaurants are an easy walk. )
BUT ...
we returned to find THOUSANDS of ants crawling up our docklines, all over the hatches and, yes , just starting to work their way down into the cabin.
I know the ants can't be blamed on the marina...BUT I did have a problem with the marina response.
We realized the problem around 3 pm. Frantically fought them off by hand, or spraying with white vinegar, dipping the lines in the water...any means we could think of.
I tried calling the marina about 5 times and via ch 16, no answers... to ask if we could pull up to either the pump station's water line or the empty T dock a 100 ft away to hose them off our deck.
Between 4-5:30, when we finally came up for air, having stopped more ants from boarding, I walked down to the office twice looking for anyone.
A sign on the office sad something like the staff was out on the dock for 30 minutes, but gave no hint as to when that was.
The marina store clerk said Rusty was probably gone for the day, but another worker was around somewhere.
We took another shower after working in the sun and heat for 2 hours straight, went back to the boat, killed a hundred or 200 more.
Sunset was 5:30 ish, and we wanted to pick up the mooring ball with some light. I tried calling the office again. Around 4:40pm, I think, someone answered.
By then I was dreading trying to sleep on a dark mooring with ants crawling, knowing we were just starting a 2-3 month stint of anchoring out and not coming into marinas.
I was a bit frantic at that point, explaining the situation, asking if we could pull up to the pump station's water access so we could hose the remaining ants off the deck.
He said "No, I just closed the pump station."
I asked if we could pull up to an empty T dock to just use the water.
He said "No, I do not have the authority to allow you to"
I asked who did, he said "No one is here till tomorrow morning"
I asked, %u201Ccan't we just use a hose anywhere? He said we could ask one of the resident boater's; I asked if he meant we could pull into a slip just for a few minutes to accomplish that.
"No, I just said you couldn't go into a slip."
Needless to say, what could have been a smooth start of our adventure, has since been 3 days of non stop killing of hundreds more ants, coming from under our jib sheets, anchor cabinet, vassarettes, hatch covers, companionway.
This was not an emergency, nor would this cause a loss of life nor failure of our sailboat to function.
I know all that; I don%u2019t even mind ants in general. Just not the thought that when I go to sleep in my berth, they could be dropping down on us, or cawling down into our galley shelves; I will always be looking for ants.
All I wanted was access to running water to hook our hose up.

I'm sure this is not a great paying job and the dock assistant was looking forward to heading home at 5pm promptly ...since overtime pay is non-existent
...but perhaps Laishley employees could at least be given hand held VHFs or forward the office phone to their cell phone .
This could have been resolved long before 5 pm and in general, handled so much faster and easier with better organization and cooperation on the part of the marina.

Gotta go, another 4 ants crawled out from under the cockpit cushions.
Down to only 40 or so killed today.

Laishley Park Municipal Marina is a find, 2015-07-16
Captain: , Cincinnati, Oh. (140)

Laishley Park Municipal Marina is a very nice stop. Previously we stayed at Fisherman%u2019s Warf Marina. Laishley%u2019s slip rate was $1.75 per foot, very cost effective. We are trying to reduce our marina slip usage of $2.00 per foot and less in this region. The marina offers clean large shower/restrooms, a nice laundry facility next to the appointed captain%u2019s lounge including strong Wi-Fi. Pump out is at the boat. Dock master Rusty could not have been more helpful. Bev enjoyed the free three wheeled loaner bicycle for exploring the adjacent park and town. TV reception of local channels with terrestrial antenna pointed at 118 degrees was very good. Neither cable nor Wi-Fi is available at the docks.

Destination restaurant, Laishley Crab House just off the docks has many unbelievable chain saw master carvings adorning the entrance and throughout the facility. Its wood decor offers a very pleasing atmosphere; dinner was beyond expectations, in presentation, taste quality, and serving size. I had the Sushi Sampler; Bev enjoyed Grouper Anise covered with crab meat. Breakfast was enjoyed at Deans South of the Border, about a block away; they also have a band in the evening and it rocks.

We definitely will be returning to Laishley Park Municipal Marina in Punta Gorda, Fl.

Great marina, great people!, 2015-05-29
Captain: , Miami Beach, FL (50)

Stayed a night here Memorial Day weekend 2015. Very nice and clean marina. We took advantage of their bike loaner program and had a great time enjoying the area. If you stay here, make sure to bike over to Fishermen's Village and enjoy the shops.

A Nice spot to visit, 2015-05-23
Captain: , Miami (73)

We visited Laishley marina starting 5/19/15 for a week. Some changes have taken place. It's very nice with 4 unisex rest rooms with a shower in each one. They now have live-aboards. It's a short walk to the US Post office, many good restaurants and, made in the shop ice cream just off the dock! The only down side is there is not a good break water to calm the marina waters. It was not bad for us, but it could get rough if a storm pipes up.

Almost forgot to add, FREE loaner bicycles, 2 wheel, 3 wheel AND tandem! Also the free use of a swimming pool if you ask the harbormaster. WiFi is week and does not make it to the ends of the docks.

Great marina and wonderful staff, 2015-04-01
Captain: , Jacksonville, FL (180)

Rusty, dock master, and Ray, his assistant, manage a wonderful marina and will bend over backwards to be accommodating. We just spent 5 weeks there and wished we didn't have to leave. Ray, a retired post master, has mail delivery in his blood and he would bring our mail to our boat. Free pump outs available 3 times a week. Clean showers, laundry, and Captain's Lounge. Love the concrete docks. Just 2 blocks from downtown, Ace, and multiple music venues.

Beautiful boaters lounge, 2015-04-01
Captain: , Clayton, NY (645)

Lounge has large beautiful, large, individual bathrooms with showers, TV, WIFI, and laundry. There is a park adjoining the marina with activities most weekend. There is another park on the other side of the bridge that has impromptu music on Thursday nights. West Marine and Publix is an easy bike ride away.

Barb and Brian, Rapid Transit, 2015-03-04
Captain: , Vero Beach, FL (30)

We have stayed here 3 times, and love it. Close proximity to local restaurants and Harborwalk, bicycle friendly, loaner bikes. Rusty (Dockmaster) and all of his crew are extremely accomodating. All facilities are in excellent conditiion. Crabhouse right on property way too tempting!

A Great Marina, 2015-02-23
Captain: , Halifax, N.S. (50)

We spent one night at this marina and can't say enough good things about it. Ray was welcoming, friendly and couldn't be more helpful. The facilities are first class (laundry could use a few more machines) and represent great value. It was a tossup between this marina and Fisherman's Village, and thank goodness we made the right decision. If you want to be surrounded by Made in China stores and tourist restaurants then the other marina is for you. Highly recommended and we would certainly come here again.

Great People Great Facility Great Location, 2015-02-13
Captain: , Punta Gord, Florida (10)

We spent 5 months at this amazing marina while we were outfitting our recently purchased boat. Rusty and his entire team made the whole experience a delight. They were always ready to help in any way possible. (Thanks Ray, Bernie, Kevin and Jerry!)

Some of the other boaters started a potluck dinner on Wednesday nights. It was a great way to get to know other boaters and share stories.

Laishely Park Municipal Marina will be on our permanent list of places to stay.

Laishley Mooring Field, 2015-02-12
Captain: , Port Charlotte, Florida (10)

You will truly feel welcome here whether you are transient or a local. A good safe dinghy dock and a great guy like Rusty in charge. Not many marinas are this laid back and accomodating to visitors or full timers who are just using a mooring. We give the highest recommendation.

nice place, 2015-01-20
Captain: , Nebraska (30)

Friendly people that actually seem to care about there customers. I like that we were able to moor here instead of rent a slip. Plus there is a pump out in the marina or they have a boat that pumps out on Monday and Thursday, just hail them on the VHF and they will come to your location even if you are anchored in the area. The moorings could be better as a lot of them no longer have the floats that hold the mooring pennant on the surface.

Laishley Park Marina mooring field, 2015-01-15
Captain: , Largo, FL (100)

The mooring field at Laishley Park marina has apparently not been maintained since established. The mooring balls are in bad shape. After seeing the condition of the field, we decided not to stay there.

Well run %u2013 Very convenient to downtown, 2015-01-14
Captain: , Cape Coral, FL (396)

Well kept %u2013 very clean docks and showers. Right downtown. West Marine and Publics about a mile away. Floating docks with the exception of E dock, which is fixed (mostly for larger boats). The only downside was that we were visiting with a club and they could not put us together. This would not be an issue with a single. Fuel at Fisherman%u2019s Village, about 2 miles west.

A great Marina, 2014-12-01
Captain: , Marathon, FL (1150)

Stayed here over Thanksginving. Originally planned 5 day stay that turned into 10 days due to weather. That was fine with us because this is a beautiful Marina with very helpful, friendly staff and very well located. Lots nearby, including the Crab House on premises. Very good food. Close to everything in town. A bit of a hike to Publix and West Marine but with a bike it would
be very doable. We will definitely come back here next year.

Excellent Marina, 2014-06-28
Captain: , Punta Gorda, Florida (500)

Top quality facility with knowledgeable and friendly staff. Very, Very clean showers and private restrooms. Truly a first class marina.

A month's stay here makes us eager to return., 2014-05-29
Captain: , Jacksonville, FL (270)

Rusty, dock master, and Ray, his assistant, were so welcoming and went out of their way to make sure our stay was all we wished it to be. The concrete docks are very nice and the location is perfect for access to anywhere in the area. The bridge connecting Punta Gorda to Port Charlotte has a bike lane separating the cyclist from automobiles by a cement wall. The city wants to be known as bicycle friendly so they've built numerous bike ways and safe areas for walking, running, or cycling. Publix, West Marine, Enterprise, and numerous restaurants are very close and walkable. Captain's Lounge is very comfortable with spic-and-span laundry room and restroom/showers. We loved it and will return on our way south in the fall.

Nice town, great marina, fantastic staff, 2014-04-05
Captain: , Wilmington (10)

Punta Gorda has a lot to offer within easy walking distance. Restaurants, parks, music, fishing pier, yoga studio, ice cream shops, shrimp right off the boat, and more. The marina is spotless throughout. Ray, Rusty, and Ed do everything possible to make you feel welcome and are always willing to help you in any way they can. Very enjoyable stay.

Great Marina!, 2014-03-31
Captain: , Jacksonville, Fl (245)

Planned on staying for a few days and ended up there a month. Love the Punta Gorda area and the location of the marina. Walked off the boat to wonderul restaurants and shopping. Can't say enough about the Dockmaster Rusty and his staff. Rusty goes out of his way to make your stay comfortable and he even helped me with my lines when the wind picked up and my husband was off the boat. Planning on staying there again next year.

Great friendly Marina, 2014-03-30
Captain: , Vancouver BC (500)

We try to stay for a while every year and this year we anaged clsoe to 3 months broken up, as usual everything was class, the staff deserve kudos and so does Punta Gorda for providing a great stopping place.

Top Notch Service & Facilities, 2014-03-17
Captain: , mystic, Ct (155)

We had a 5 star experience at Laishley Park Municpal Marina. Rusty Dockmaster, and company, were very professional, friendly and helpful. We choose to take a mooring and found the dinghy ride to the dinghy dock a "piece of cake". The loaner bike program is fantastic. Numerous bike trails and beautiful scenery. Downtown has the Old Florida feel; which we love. An easy bike ride to Publix & West Marine. A great "Ace Hardware" store, with in eyes view of the marina.
The sailors community room, showers, and the $1 per load laundry room were spotless.
We purchased 3lbs of fresh shrimp from "John the Shrimper" right off the dock.
It doesn't get any better. We would most definetly stay again.

top notch stop, 2014-02-25
Captain: , Charleston (40)

We stayed on a mooring in 7.5'. Ditto to previous review. Rusty, Ray, Ed, & young man whose name escapes me now are the BEST! The were always helpful and went out of their way to make you feel at home. The weekly mooring fee was fantastic! Some bouncy during day, but at night it was beautiful. With our wifi extender we got a public wifi connection go free! The bike borrowing program was fantastic and allowed us to really enjoy all that Punta Gorda had to offer. Just can't say enough good things! Wonderful week.

2-17-2014 Big "E" Capt. Erl Swierkowski, 2014-02-17
Captain: , Beaufort, SC (50)

This marina is top notch. We pulled in during the Taste of Punta Gorda festival which was a delight. Ray and Ed worked hard to make our stay perfect, from the loaner bikes to information they were the best. It is a beautiful little town where we went on a long bike ride on the great bike/walking trails which never seemed to end. On Sunday there was a farmer's market and we toured the Fisherman's Wharf area. We would recommend this marina and is our favorite one on this trip. The laundry is $1 per load, an unheard of price in these days. Clean facilities and a nice boater's lounge. Close to everything and we will be back!

Outstanding customer service, 2014-01-04
Captain: , Minneapolis mn (20)

Outstanding, friendly, pristine, superbly run. These are just some of the descriptive words and phrases I would use to describe our experience here. Our plan was to put our seaward 25 in the water here and go explore south down to the 10000 islands. We were just going to pass through. If a contest were held for the nicest, most accomodating, friendliest people, the folks working here would win running away. Rusty, Ray, Ed, and Erin. You guys are amazing! We never did just pass through and we are now on our 2nd month here. We did leave to explore 5 days here....9 days there and so on. We stayed at other marinas and no other place even came close. The marina is within a stones throw of at least 4 great places to eat and drink. The marina is located in the park so it is dog friendly. Our crew consists of 2 Golden Retrievers and a rat terrior, chihuahua mix. They love the park system and so did we. The bathrooms, showers and lounge are always pristine. I am writing this review after sailing around for about a month. My conclusion is this...someone is putting something in the drinking water in Punta Gorda! Everyone is friendly here. A really good vibe. Due to weather we are stranded in the Marco Island, Naples area. We can't wait to get back to drink some of that Punta Gorda water. I can tell you that it is not served in this area..

Best marina ever, 2013-10-24

best marina i have ever been to

thx Rusty and Staff
see you this winter

Great Marina, 2013-03-30
Captain: , hampstead.n.c. (219)

We spent 5 days in Punta Gorda due to some heavy weather. The town is nice for 2-3 days, more than that is questionable without a car for transportation. The marina staff were great, competent, helpful and the marina has free bikes. A very heavy NW blow rocked the docks a good bit, but we were lucky enough to be blocked by a bigger boat on the T-dock. The town could do a lot better to advertise the local eateries, bars and places to spend your money. Without our I-Phone we would have been lost. The car traffic was busy due to the bridge traffic on I-41, N & S. It is a great place to bike due to the walk/bike ways in the city.
The entrance to the marina and exit had good depths. The marina had floating docks and the local shrimpers will sell shrimp at the docks at good prices on Tues. and Fri.
We enjoyed our stay there and would visit again.

Don't miss the GREAT icr cream store at the marina!!!

Great place to stay, 2013-03-01
Captain: , Cape Coral FL (70)

This was our first stay and we were very pleased. Great ammenities, boaters lounge, private showers and loaner bikes are a plus. Rusty and the entire staff are sincere and helpful, they took great care of us while we were there. Customer service is obviously top on their list. Location is great, close to West Marine and shopping. We travel this area regularly and will definately come back.

Outstanding!, 2013-02-05
Captain: , Punta Gorda (30)

Staff friendly, helpful, thoughtful as well as professional. Facilities are top shelf, super clean showers, toilets and office area. Docks are uncluttered, secure and well equipped. Whether staying for a few hours or months, it's a great place to be.

Modern, convenient, clean and Rusty is great!, 2013-01-19
Captain: , Spring Lake, MI (379)

I agree with all the good points in the post below. Modern floating docks (since Charlie distroyed most of the waterfront.) A good mooring field. Clean baths, laundry and TV room. Easy walk to the six square block downtown restaurants and shops. WM and Publix close by. Only flaw, reason for 4 stars instead of 5, is they have WiFi but it doesn't reach the docks. Randy was working on that while we were there.

Eddy J's review, 2013-01-16
Captain: , Navarre, FL (40)

A great facility for cruisers! Wonderful boater's lounge area, showers, wash/dryer facilities, free bicycle loans, convenient to West Marine and w/in walking distance to countless eateries!
The dockmaster, Rusty, and his entire staff are so accomodating and helpful. They try their utmost to ensure that your stay is a positive one.

You'll be glad you stayed!, 2012-11-09

Clean, contortable marina with a very accomodating staff. Clean showers and good laundry and lounge. Ace Hardware and West Marine close by along with great restaurants. Free loner bike are available from the marina

Rocky-Roly, 2012-03-26
Captain: , Beaumont, TX (669)

Nice marina with very pleasant and helpful staff. Transient slip Very rocky-roly with north west wind due to fetch coming underneath bridge.

Had a great stay for a week., 2012-02-15
Captain: , Kingtston Ontario (273)

The comment below sums it all up. There are free bikes which we took advantage of. Also there is a shrimp boat in the marina that goes out every Monday & Thursday night & sellsl live fresh shrimp right off the boat the next morning from 7 - till he runs out .$8 a lb. The staff were super nice & the bathrooms & laundry were the best we have seen. We will be back again but next time we will stay for a month.

Great Facility & Great Town, 2012-01-15
Captain: , Edenton, NC (887)

We stayed a week. (rate is $8/ft for a week) Like new facility. Saw 5.0 ft in approach channel at low tide. Can get a little rocky/rolly if wind is perfectly aligned with entrance. Just avoid the T-head and it isn't an issue. Dog park adjacent, even found vet within walking distance. Lots of great restrauants, Ace Hardware short walk, West Marine a good walk and Publix a 2.5 mile bike ride away. Good bike paths along entire waterfront. Friendly helpful staff. We'll come back. Searching for a less than positive topic is that WiFi is weak out on the docks. Strong Verizon 3G.

Nice Stopover, 2012-01-09
Captain: , Punta Gorda FL (1709)

This is a great marina and mooring field for a stopover. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Great restaurant that pours a healthy drink. Example 8 ozs wine not 4ozs or 6 ozs like many marinas for the same price. Very close to fun downtown areas with many excellent shops and restraurants. We recommend Jack's and a new German restraurant Kathy's. Many others to choose from. If you like Irish pubs with fun drinking songs that get everyone going, visit The Celtric Ray. Mooring field is new and little used. Free pump outs at their dock. Will spend 2 weeks there next time through.

Mooring field, 2011-10-30
Captain: , Toms River NJ (257)

Spent the week of 10/ 23/11 on ball # 36, only boat here. Went into Marina for a pump out and water, crew extra helpfull. On Sat. and then Sun. we spent the day on their free day dock doing laundry and shopping. Long walk for groceries, but they have loaner bikes.

New mooring field, 2011-09-28
Captain: , Hudson, FL (102)

We are the first, and so far only, customer in the new mooring field. Great new marina facility, nice air conditioned cruiser's lounge, extremely clean new bathrooms/showers, cheapest laundry prices we have ever paid, very clean welcoming town. You will not find a nicer marina anywhere!! Worth the 20 mile trip up Charlotte Harbor to visit!!

Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Couldn't have asked for more.

We spent a few weeks on a mooring ball and then moved to a slip on the floating docks.

The only negatives are that they don't have a pumpout boat yet so if you are on a mooring ball you have to go into the pumpout dock every 7 days. But they let us stay at the T-dock after pumpout to do laundry, errands, fill up with water, etc. while we are in.

There is a strong current in the river so you get the old mooring ball hitting the boat dance and it can get rough quickly when wind and current are opposite each other as there is a significant fetch. Otherwise, very nice and peaceful out on the moorings. You must be able to clear a 45 foot fixed bridge so only appropriate for smaller sailboats (we are a 27 footer) or trawlers.

We spent a month there 01.2011 loved this marina, new floating docks, free pumpout, low cost per foot. Rusty, Dockmaster, and John were very friendly folks and helped us with information, weather forecasts, advice on anchorages and other marinas.Within walking distance of many wery good places to eat.

Clean, comfortable marina with great staff.
Great showers and good laundry and lounge. Clean!!!
Stable floating concrete docks, avoid the T's for comfort..
In downtown Punta Gorda, which is clean and welcoming since a first class post hurricane rebuild.
Hardware, WM, other resources only a cpl miles away.
Much more relaxing and private than area alternatives.
Many restaurants, shops, post office within walking distance.

We loved this marina, new floating docks, free pumpout, low cost per foot. Rusty, Dockmaster, and John were very friendly folks and helped us with information, weather forecasts, advice on anchorages and other marinas. They are a first class team. Also, the Laishly Crabhouse restaurant was superb. I had a Ahi Tuna salad that was just totally delicious for example. You can't go wrong staying here. The weekly rate was $8/ft+ a small charge for electric.

Great place to stop!, 2010-11-20

One of the nicest Marina's we have been to. VERY comfortable, clean showers with a nice lounge area where you can watch the tube while waiting on your laundry. Very nice docks/slips with great staff to help. (Thanks John) Interesting beaneries and bars within walking distance. Good boat ramp, free parking, free loaner bikes and pet friendly. Though close to lots of activities it is a pretty quiet little nook and we enjoyed staying a couple of nights here. Only reason I don't rate it five stars is not much of a ships store and no fuel. Otherwise, it is tops and we'll be stopping here again.

Great facility, 2010-04-13

This is one nice facility! Nice docks, great help docking, beautiful facility, all new, very close to everything except Fisherman's Warf, but even that is just a short bike ride away. They even have loaner bikes... his, hers and a trike for grocery hauling. The Restroom/shower 'pods' are huge, probably 12-15 ft sq. with benches and lots of hooks. Gotta be one of the nicest marinas I have visited. Only very minor minus, is that the ships store is pretty sparce, but it has the necessities.

If you can get under two 45 foot bridges just east on the Pieace River is a brand new marina; top notch facilities, floating docks, new on site Crab House Restaurant nearing completion, new hotels and restaurants. Just across the street downtown Punta Gorda is rebuilding post Hurricane Charley and will soon be a major attraction to cruisers. The location of this marina is unbeatable.
