Reviews for La Ceiba Shipyard and Marina
Don't stop at the first paragraph, 2014-05-18

They have security here but it is always a good idea to stay alert...it's a pretty lonely place at night...no problems but this is not a place to wander around after dark. I came here because I needed to repair my autopilot and this is a duty free zone for marine parts. Also, an old 2008 guidebook by Stephen Pavlidis described the place as the "finest boatyard in the Northwest Caribbean, bar none." Either it went downhill a lot since then or Mr. P was using a mighty low standard. Also, his charts were misleading and his waypoints were completely wrong. C-Map was good and so was Navionics.

HOWEVER, this is the place to get things fixed. During the daytime I felt as safe as anywhere. The workers were very helpful and kindly gave me a ride to town and pitched in, for free, to help me fix my autopilot drive motor. It is very industrial, here, and there are no showers or laundry facilities. There is presently no wi-fi at the dock and it is my impression that there is little likelihood of it being fixed anytime soon. The girl in the office (Astrid) will let you sit at the desk next to hers and get online. The side tie dock was $0.35 per foot per day and 110V electricity was $5 per day. 220 V was $8 per day and water is $1 per day. If you need to make repairs in this part of the world you can get the work done. Parts can be shipped in without custom's hassles and many things could be found locally. La Ceiba has a US style shopping mall and a taxi ride to town is 100 Lemps ($5. USD) as well as many local food and veggie vendors.

This is on the edge of the jungle and the river is brackish and barely moving, unlike the Rio Dulce which is fed by clear mountain water that streams to the sea. You will wake up to a lot of humidity and the sounds of exotic birds calling in between the pings of the welder's hammer. I expect Humphry and Audrey to show up any minute so I am going to rename my boat the African Queen while I am here.

Full service shipyard, 2009-09-23

This is a 'full service shipyard' that accommodates both commercial vessels and private yachts. The facilities are basic and will not win any awards for cleanliness or environmental stewardship.
