Reviews for Knife River Marina
Cute little harbor surrounded by woods., 2012-08-15

We were advised transient slips need to be reserved on nice weekends but found the harbor master is accommodating. We called at about 10:00am and he said we took the last slip suitable for our 34 footer. When entering Knife River Marina, you will see Knife Island just to the north of the entrance. Knife Island is white, presumably from the droppings of the many seagulls that live there. Stay well to the south of Knife Island as there are rocks to the south of the Island. The harbor entrance is narrow and the bottom is rocky but we found sufficient water for our sailboat (5' draft) in the middle of the channel. There is a beach just over a little rise on the lake side of the marina. The beach is a popular bonfire setting for locals on warm summer nights. I walked to the highway and found "Russ Kendalls Smokehouse" (about 3/4 mile form the marina) where I found smoked fish, cheese, sausages and some basic food supplies. The owner, a son of the original Russ, was very friendly and grateful for my business. The bathrooms are clean and there appears to be wireless internet (although we did not ask for the password). My wife really enjoyed our brief visit and would like to return.

Several times when we were living in Duluth and cruising Lake Superior, we spent a couple of nights here. It's a lot quieter than the marinas in Duluth/Superior. There are some marine supplies available, and a restaurant within walking distance.
