Reviews for Kittery Point Yacht Yard
They really try to make a difference, 2016-09-07
Captain: , Cuba Landing Marina, Waverly, TN, Nashville, TN (184)

Very professional, great manager in Jason who really works hard to do things right. They will stand by any of their work. Not cheap but you always get what you pay for. The place has a long history and is working to do many upgrades. Some things maybe older but are cleaned and well maintained. This was a once in boating trip for me but I would be back here if it was a regular cruise. Last but certainly not least is the current runs pretty swift and a little unpredictable so if going into the dock Jason will tell you how to do it. And believe me he knows every approch in every condition. Do it like he says and it will be a piece of cake.

Management response:

Thank you for the feedback!! Let us know if you needs any help from us in the future and we hope you are able to make it back to Maine again soon!!

Excellent Service, 2016-08-29
Captain: , Panama City, FL (574)

One of the most helpful marinas. Jason provided a clear map to our mooring and a useful list of local information to help us while in town. He also got parts VERY quickly that we needed. A great stop in quiet water to enjoy this lovely area. Also nice easy walk over to Fort McClary to stretch legs.

Management response:
Thank you for the kind words Steve, we are looking forward to seeing you back soon. As always if you need any help from us you know where to find us.

Emergency Repair, 2016-06-27
Captain: , Portsmouth (10)

My son and I were scheduled to do a 2 day race on Friday and Saturday. On Wednesday we lost our genoa halyard in a storm. The crew at KPYY came to the rescue and installed a new halyard on Thursday. We didn't do well in the race, but thanks to KPYY I got to spend 2 additional days on the boat with my son. Thanks KPYY.

KPYY Great spot and excellent help., 2016-06-22

Stopped in with our sailboat for an overnight stay. Jason (MGR) hugely helpul and very efficient. Sent us clear directions via email with mooring map. Very easy stop in beautiful protected cove. Some shopping close by or a short dinghy ride.

Great Stop and very Accomodating!, 2015-09-13
Captain: , Halifax, Nova Scotia (70)

We had a very pleasant two night stay. Short dingy ride up the river to Portsmouth Town docks, easy access to downtown Portsmouth. Kittery Four is walking distance with nice eating establishments. Jason very helpful with lots of local information. A great stop for anyone.

Great place to stop, 2015-08-24
Captain: , Marblehead (40)

After a long day of sailing down from Booothbay we looked into getting a mooring with Kittery Point Yackt Yard. We found them on Active Captain and were glad we did. Called Jason on his cell, left a message and within an hour he called back. The backchannel is much easier to manuver in has the currents are not as strong has the Portsmith side.
Nice quiet mooring next to the navy yard, Jason came out and greeted us and dropped off an information packet, something you dont see anymore. You have to take a taxi or if you are lucky to meet the owner and he is leaving at the same time you can catch a ride into town with him. Eat at the Black Birch. Great food. Will definantly be back to this little gem.

Excellent yard, 2014-10-08

Jason and Saul did an excellent job removing the suff inside our diesel fuel tank on our 36 foot sail boat. And they did it in one day!

great people, great service and skill, 2014-10-04
Captain: , Annapolis (20)

Just before Labor Day, we were looking for a place to stay and get some work done while in Portsmouth for September. Jason listened to our projects and crafted a reasonable quote. To prepare our Lord Nelson for a trip to BVIs, we needed fine teak deck work done on our 30 year old cockpit lazarette hatches. We also had KPYY fix the engine-driven refrig and hot water tank. They calmly completed all three projects on time and under budget. At the same time, Jason helped procure a life raft, sea drogue and some various ditch bag items. We enjoyed our time with them and highly recommend KPYY.

Seven Star Performance, 2014-08-13
Captain: , Bridgeport, CT (548)

Jason went out of his way to handle all of our requirements. We had a problem with a diverster valve that different boat yards in Connecticut didn't either have the time or the interest to fix. We picked up our mooring and I mentioned the problem to Jason and we had a mechanic onboard the boat within the hour. The mechanic was quick, efficient and we had the problem completely resolved within 30 minutes. I can't recommend this yard highly enough!!!

Exactly what you need!, 2014-08-08
Captain: , Maine (639)

Making a passage down east from Long Island Sound found us with a blocked head sanatary hose and guests awaiting for us in Portland. With poor cell phone contact we managed to call Jason at Kitery Point YY. "Yes, a mooring would be made available and yes he would see what he cound do to secure a quailfied mechanic for the next morning", we diverted from the Isle of Shoals into Kitery. Jason came aboard assesed the situation and the next moring, as promised the repair was made at an astondingly reasonoable rate with a free mooring "because we had repairs" made at KPYY. The yard itseflf is immaculate. Do not hesitate to visit for pleasure or repairs.

A good solid stop in quiet Back Channel, 2014-08-02
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (340)

KPYY is a small working marina that's been around for awhile (used to be Dion's years ago when my wife was a student....). Nice people, good moorings. KPYY has limited shore facilities (single restroom/shower), so be prepared to wait if you hit prime-time in the morning. It's a 30-40 minute walk to downtown Kittery, but it's a nice walk along the shore road, and Kittery has a bunch of choices for food and beverage. No real market that I know of, but a convenience store and hardware store on on the way to town (much closer to KPYY).

No launch, so you will need the dink. And watch out exploring in the dink...if you get caught trying to get back in an opposing current your outboard will get a serious workout.

All in all, a solid choice for a mooring in the Kittery area.

Great Find!, 2014-07-10
Captain: , Essex, CT (10)

We were looking for a repair facility and one-night mooring. Our expectations were far exceeded - we stayed three days! The facility is maintained to the highest standards, and staffed by friendly and professional technical and operations team. The technicians completed our repairs in a very short time, with excellent quality, and at a very reasonable price. Management and operations personnel went out of their way to suggest local points of interest and convenient places to re-provision. We had fun with our dinghy traveling the "Back Channel" a short distance northward to Warren's Lobster House for dinner (great place) and accross the Piscataqua River to Portsmouth for a walking and shopping treat (leave the dinghy at the town marina for a few dollars). From the yacht yard, Anne's Taxi made getting around convenient and economical. Also, enjoy a local breakfast "chat" by dingying to Pepperell Cove General Store for breakfast and "the best sandwichs anywhere." We found KPYY to be a great prelude to the quiet and picturesque moorings we found on the central Maine coast.

Calm, but isolated, 2014-06-26
Captain: , Huntington Harbour, CA (275)

Moorings are $40. Call ahead and reserve. Moorings are out of the main stream and in calm, protected waters. Probably among the quietest moorings around. Staff is nice. But, for a cruising boat there are very limited services - no laundry or restaurants on premises and it's at least 1.5 miles to a laundromat, grocery store, etc. You can take your dinghy to a dock and get closer to Kittery. But, what worked best for us was to take the dinghy to Prescot Park in Portsmouth, took a short walk to Market Square and got the Route 40 trolly up Islington to Plaza 800 where there is a huge grocery store, a laundry, a drug store, and a liquor store. Note to folks traveling further into Maine - evidently cheaper liquor in NH than Maine, so this is a good place to stock up. Also, no sales tax in NH. There are several busses that stop in market square so you could also get out to Trader Joe's. etc. The current around here can be very swift so watch your timing and it helps if you have a good motor on your dinghy if you are going to travel from KPYY to Portsmouth. For more info on the bus go to

Great spot and accommodating, 2013-10-01
Captain: , Westport CT (83)

If they have a mooring its the place to be. Friendly service and out of current and wakes. Jason is your man. You can walk to restaurants and stores and if fit even into Portsmouth over the new bridge.

When you need help call Jason., 2013-07-23

We pulled in with a broken injector line. They checked it out, ordered the part and had us on our way by noon the next day. Not a resort but AJ's Wood Fired Pizza will deliver, we walked there and had a great pie. Apple smoked bacon, caramelized onion and herbed goat cheese , WOW !

Great Customer Service, 2013-07-08
Captain: , Vero Beach, FL (842)

This is a working yard and boatbuilding concern. They do not focus on serving cruisers, but in our two experiences here (9/2012, 7/2013), they have been very accomodating and helpful. They rent their moorings when they are not occupied with yard-work boats.
When we were heading south for Cape Ann last fall, the forecast quickly ramped up to 50kts overnight. We ran into Portsmouth/Kittery, where we found all rental moorings taken and no slips available. Jason, the customer service guy at KPYY, found a vacant private mooring for us in the protected Back Channel, gave us access to their facilities and didn't even charge us for it. What great treatment!
We stopped here northbound 7/13 and had a rental mooring opposite their yard @ $40. The single bath/shower is very clean and well supplied. Wifi reaches the moorings. The parts department even had an oil filter to fit my Universal, saving a long walk into town somewhere. We reccommend you close the hatches before dusk, to avoid the usual Maine mosquitos.
This is the sort of place we hope for when we choose to rent a slip or mooring.

very protected area, 2012-04-09

Kittery Point Yacht Yard - Sept 2007, 2007-09-09
Captain: , Georgetown, Maine (144)

Very friendly. Acquiring a transient mooring was an adventure, altho KYPC welcomed us, it was hard finding a spot. They DO have showers (one). Dock was occupied by works in progress.

The name says it all, this is a yacht yard and not a marina, 2007-04-15
Captain: , Bremen (33)

The yard is located in the Back Channel, which is very protected and safe. Seasonal moorings are available to yard customers, who spend their boat dollars in this yard. Very limited availability of transient moorings and dock space, which is old and tired. This is a very small yard with little water frontage. Working hours limited to week days. No service available on weekends.
