Reviews for Kingsmill Marina
The red headed step child of the resort, 2017-07-03

This marina has full exposure and no protection so make sure you will be here when there is no wind. We arrived when the winds were ssw and it was a terrible night. The staff is very nice and helpful and we truly appreciated the help docking. The finger piers are only 1/2 so you need to back in to exit your boat. We went to a l shaped pier that had a concrete deck and it was a good choice. Down side was it had duck poop all over it and it's where people fish so last night there were about 20 people outside our boat fishing. They left worm dirt all over the deck which I thought was not very nice. I didn't see any security other than a ride by on the road. There is no dedicated marina parking if you have a car. There is no bathhouse, there is one bathroom that is not secure , with a shower. You can use the resort locker room shower which is a hike. I guess what I didn't like was that when I have stayed at other resort marinas I felt like I was part of the resort, you would get a bag with info, a map, etc. not the case here. I don't even think the shuttle comes down here, of course I don't know since I wasn't given anything with that info on it. So if you stay here do your homework, make sure the wind will be low. Again I want to say the people working in the marina are very nice and helpful!

I stopped by for food but I did not know it was members only. Even though I was not a member they were very polite and fueled by boat. Very Great service, wish I was a member.

Lovely, but, 2016-05-27

This as a wonderful spot. Great amenities, including terrific restaurants, amazing health and spa facility and pools, golf course, tennis courts and anything else you can imagine. But the best part of this place are the people. They truly care. I'd give it 5 stars except the weather/wave protection is only ok. If the wind is from the S/SW expect to rock and roll. That said, the rocking is worth it given the other benefits.

Glamorous spot, 2015-09-04

Flat fee of $100 gives you access to a first class resort environment. The marina is at the base of a hill, so it is a bit of a hike to the pools, showers etc. Free resort shuttle cart upon demand and a shuttle to Williamsburg

Too Ordinary, 2015-08-12

For us, this marina was a long way to go to get to and we expected/hoped for more. The entrance was narrow and unmarked. Having never been there, I was unsure how to approach. Once in, I found floating piers ideal for 30 to 45' boats. Much bigger and docking would be a challenge.

The pools and resturants were great. But that is about it. Bicycles can be rented, but cannot leave the proerty. Ice is sold in 20 pound bags. There are no laundry facilities. and it's expensive.
We planed two days, only stayed one. If we lived closer, we might be back. But it is a long way up the James with little to draw my attention.

7-6-14 Great Resort but...., 2014-07-11
Captain: , Norfolk, VA (30)

We have been to Kingsmill twice in the past month for a total of 7 nights. The first time we took our kids 9,10,11 and they had a blast. We spent the days at the pool with the lazy river and slide. It was great! They have food, tiki bar, and live music. The other food venues were good as well and the views were stunning. The Marina is decent but you can tell its not where the Resort puts its money or even cares much about. The staff was helpful but missed opportunities to really help when it mattered. The transient slips have a tendency to be narrow but they are floating docks with short shaky finger piers. The Marina could be a real gem that becomes a destination to many if they would invest in a real sea wall and perform some routine maint. There is only one unisex bathroom with shower which is insufficient for the Marina. The secret is to walk up to the fitness center and use their nice showers!! Where else can you be so close to Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, Water Country, and be on a very nice Resort for $100 per night. The transportation system is good and they have daily shuttles that take you into BG and Williamsburg. Any south wind over 10 mph will rock you all night - we had a 30+ mph night and almost everyone on the boat was sea sick all night. Great hurricane hideout since the Marina is blocked from North Winds.

It's good, but be careful docking, 2012-09-09

This is a great marina if you like good food and great service in restaurants; there are at least three different ones with different food fares. Going into the marina can be tricky. Try for the transient piers and avoid the finger piers. If you have to dock in the finger piers go slow and watch the wind. If your vessel's like mind post a lookout stern.

Great facility, but..., 2012-05-14
Captain: , Egg Harbor, NJ (110)

Excellent overall land facility, but marina can be tough on comfort and safety. In addition to wind affect, sea wall does not prevent wakes from commercial ships moving up and down river from rock and rolling the boats. Be especially generous with fenders if docked side to. Wave action washes through the sea wall.

Still one of the gems of the Bay, 2011-07-17

We had a great vist liast week. The facilites of the resort are amazing- tennis, multiple golf courses a spa and a first class sports center. Facility can easily handle 50+ ft with ease , there were two 50 + boats during our visit. Davis, the dockmaster is a first class guy!

No room at the Inn, 2011-06-29
Captain: , Baddeck, Nova Scotia (160)

Kingsmill is a beautiful property but if your much bigger than fifty feet forget it. The marina is geared towards thirty something motor yachts.
Don't even think about anchoring. There is absolutely no holding to the fine sediment on the river bottom.
Great place to visit by car sometime. Lovely staff, fair food, beautiful surroundings.

Great Stop on the James River, 2009-10-17
Captain: , Saint Petersburg, FL (181)

Very friendly and helpful dockmaster, David. Wonderful location for exploring Williamsburgh, Jamestown, Bush Gardens(free shuttles). The resort is 5-star, golf, tennis, spa, restaurants, etc. Only complaint is that the sea wall is not effective in a S, SW blow. Otherwise very good.

Great Access, 2009-10-05
Captain: , Chattanooga (327)

We stayed two nights and enjoyed the shuttle to Colonial Wmsburg and Jamestowne as well as the Sports Club, all of which come with the dockage rate, which is reasonable if it is the resident rate.

Very bumpy if the wind is from the S or SE, even inside the breakwater. Overall good resort marina.

Great Location, 2009-08-29
Captain: , South Portland, ME (537)

Marina staff are helpful and the facitilies are excellent. Good location to explore Wiliamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown and to have fun at Busch Gardens and Water Country.

Great Resort, 2009-08-03
Captain: , Daytona Beach,FL (172)

We stayed here for four nights and will definitely go back. We have a 72'boat and they have a few large slips but they book up fast. This resort has many restaurants, golf, spa, and is close to Colonial Williamsburg. The marina staff very helpful and they have a shuttle service from the marina.

Kings Mill, 2009-03-11
Captain: , Hampton VA (50)

When the wind blows from the south, lots of movement in the marina and not a good place to overnight (the breakwater is ineffective). However, we've stayed there many times and generally not found it to be a problem (just check the weather before you go). Great facilities and they will take you to Williamsburg and all the local attractions. Bikes for rent and excellent places to eat. All around a great resort.

Can be very rolly , 2008-06-04
Captain: , Marathon, FL (1264)

The facilities and access to Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, etc. are terrific, the location suffers from exposure to a very long southerly fetch. In spite of a breakwater, we bounced and rolled a lot during a 20 knot SW breeze.
Also, while the marina can handle 1 or 2 50+ footers, it's mostly set up for smaller craft - 25-35'. (We're 55')
Probably would not come back here, in spite of its many good points
