Reviews for Kingfisher Bay Marina
Owner & liveaboards go above & beyond to help, 2017-06-23
Captain: , Louisiana (554)

I limped in to Kingfisher on 6/3/17 (Saturday) with main battery problems. I should have replaced those old lead-acid before I left. So how do I quickly replace 3 each 8D lead acid batteries? I start by talking to the liveaboards here, who pointed me to the local NAPA, who actually had 4 8D's in stock, and would deliver to the marina on Monday morning. Then on Monday, Terry (another liveaboard whose wife is Anna-Marie) helps me remove the old carcasses (at no charge), and when the new ones arrive, Terry is assisted by Fred Hansard himself (the marina owner) to carry the 150# batteries on to my boat while I stand there and watch.
I also needed to replace a related 50A fuse & holder, which another liveaboard ordered for me using his Amazon account to ship overnight. I wired everything up on Tuesday, and on Wednesday morn, we departed northbound.
Everything went like clockwork. I couldn't have replaced these batteries anywhere else as easily (including at my home marina). From the owner on down, there are some super folks at this marina!

Great stopover, 2017-06-07
Captain: , Pensacola (510)

Only stayed one night, didn't use the car or anything. Very clean facility. Staff very helpful. Easy in and out with floating docks, tied up on both sides. Coudln't have been any easier.

Pleasant and friendly marina, 2017-05-04
Captain: , Litte Rock (283)

Stayed here on April 27, 2017. Very nice facility, wide entrance and wide fairways, floating docks. Had 8 feet of water under us at our slip. Friendly staff. Marina furnishes courtesy car if you need it, whether to reprovision or go to a restaurant; none of them within walking distance of marina. Car will be full of gas; you'll be asked to bring it back with a full tank and a receipt--even if all you bought was $1.50 worth. The Marathon station close by the marina is used to providing these receipts to boaters. Fuel is available at sister facility downstream, Demopolis Yacht Basin. If you don't get a response from the fuel dock to radio hailing or telephone, call the marina. Dockage fee was $1.25/foot.

Captain: , Alabama (252)

WONDERFULL BATHROOMS, LAUNDRY FACILITY. Great docks, nice people. we stayed there on 1/25/17. If you stop you must go to the RED BARN to eat

new facility and very nice, 2016-12-06
Captain: , Bedford, NH (775)

Nov 2. First we went to DYB for fuel and then here for the overnight dockage. There is some dredging going on in the basins but step by step directions are given as you come in making it very easy. The wind seemed to pick up just as we were heading for our slip. When we were about 20 feet from the slip and preparing to maneuver in, We were asked if we could change from a starboard tie to a port tie because the wind would blow us onto the port side pier. I don't think so! Not sure why it was asked of us but the timing was completely inappropriate. Slips have a pier on both sides of the boat and even though the wind was blowing us off the starboard pier, the slip wasn't much wider than our boat so no issue with a starboard tie. This would be my only complaint. Docks are very nice as is the whole facility. Nice informatinal gathering for boats locking through the next morning to coordinate getting there all together and to talk about what is ahead along the route to Mobile. We met friends there with a car so didn't need transportation. Went into town for dinner and had a wonderful meal at a little bistro. I would say this is a must stay.

Great stop, 2016-11-18
Captain: , Grand Rivers, Ky (2206)

A lot of dredging going on at the fuel dock and marina. You must contact the dredge on CH 11 before entering or leaving the marina.

Very nice docks and friendly staff. One of the nicest laundromats you will find at a marina. Courtesy car is available.

Overnight Stay, 2016-11-15
Captain: , Oregon, WI (80)

We came in close to dark from Dog River. Terry, at the fuel dock, was very helpful and guided us to Kingfisher where his wife Anna Marie guided us in by light and voice....not an easy feat but easily accomplished. What a great experience! We will definitely be back for another stay and to visit with the staff. They even delivered ice to our space, necessary after the dark night, tough wind docking.

Good fuel price, great docks., 2016-10-29
Captain: , Jacksonville Fl (1550)

This is pretty much it untill you get to Mobile. Loaner car gets you to town for supplies. The Red Barn has some good southern eating and the docks are clean. They have a pool and nice gathering deckfor docktails, every night at 5PM.
Biggest issue here are the sometimes unfriendly, unhelpful lock masters who really don't care if another RV ever came through.

Some of the nicrer docks in this stretch, 2016-10-24
Captain: , Huntington Harbour, CA (337)

Good price on fuel (which you get at Demopolis and then come over to the slips), nice slips some are covered, refreshing pool (pool toys in ladies bathroom), good washers (4) and dryers (5) for $2. each. There was a draawing of Bashi Creek in the cruisers lounge which might be your next stop. There's a scale in the ladies bathroom but, ohhhhh... not going to do that right now.

4.5 stars!, 2016-10-23
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (2870)

First, I hope you are aware that if you contact Demopolis Yacht Basin for transient dockage, you are almost certainly being directed here. It appears they are doing massive reconstruction at the old basin. Kingfisher is really where you want to be.

I try to be subjective and consistent with my ratings. This place has good docks and power, great baths/showers/laundry, a decent courtesy car, a nice pool, and a friendly/helpful staff. We have been in fancier places with the same amenities that were a true 5 star, but you paid 5 star prices. Kingfisher is affordable and very nice.

A very nice place & good resturant in town, 2016-09-30
Captain: , Hallowell, Maine (240)

The marina is great and friendly. We really enjoyed eating downtown at The Bistro, which has a very creative and delicious menu. Its an easy bike if the car isn't available

6/19/2016 Real nice marina, 2016-06-28
Captain: , Kuttawa Kentucky (410)

Left boat here for a month before moving north. Docks are floating and wide slips. Bath house is excellent. Golf car to carry things to parking lot. Restaurant is not open now at the Demopolis Yacht Basin. Thanks Terri and Kym for looking after my boat. Everyone is super nice and helpful. I would have given it 5 stars if the restaurant was still open. Stayed here before and it served great good. Not a lot of choices in town.. but you can find most of what you like. Thank You Kingfisher Bay Marina.

Awesome customer service, clean facilities, courtesy car, laundry, 2016-06-21
Captain: , Atlanta, GA (20)

Met at slip by Terry the dock manager - he and his wife manage the slips at the marina. They went out of their way to help us get settled in, find local supplies and get set with the courtesy car. Even drove us to dinner one night when the courtesy car wasnt available! Can't say enough about them or the marina. An oasis in the alabama summer heat!

Good Fuel Stop, 2016-05-02
Captain: , St Petersburg, FL (115)

Easy in and out at the fuel dock. Willing to help late arrivals with fuel. Kingfisher floating docks are great. Staff knowledgeable and helpful. Good WiFi signal but slow speed.

Dockage rates are up, 2015-11-18
Captain: , Absarokee Mt (1228)

Good stop, but a little confusing about contact. Nobody answered phone when we called the day of arrival. We called 16 when close and , they ask to change to channel 9, they assigned us a slip number and ask that we call channel 11. Terry helped us tie up in a slip undersize for our 48 ft boat. We had been here two years ago and the dockage was $1.00 per ft and were surprised it was now $1.39 with tax. Good sturdy dock, nice pedestals and everything works. It is nice to be able to pay the bill on the same side rather than walk over to the fuel dock.

Good stop, nice little town, 2015-11-16
Captain: , Essex, CT (1675)

Fine marina with nearly new docks, help ready as you arrive and a very nice porch atop the bathroom facility for docktails. We had lots of rain and wind and were completely secure. They even hosted a Halloween party for us and then a captains briefing so we all could discuss the anchorages below us and how many were going to head through the lock together and not get jammed up. Only downside was the on the dock pump out didn't work so we had to go around to the gas dock -- but it was just a minor and clearly temporary problem.

Nice and Clean, 2015-11-15
Captain: , Paducah KY (183)

Very nice and clean concrete floating docks with everything you need. Terry will help you with the docking and is very nice and informative. Contact on channel 11

Good Stop Before Mobile, 2015-11-15
Captain: , Fort Monroe, VA (949)

Stopped for fuel at old marina just south of Kingfisher (diesel at $2.37 on 11-12-15). Docks at Kingfisher were very nice. Slip widths were generous. Easy in and out from river but stay in center of channel. Terry was on the dock to guide us in and assist in tie up. Pump out capablity at each slip is nice but this is a TIY process that requires you to find and bring the hose cart to your location. Pumpout did a good job. Great place to get an early start at the Demopolis lock. Dredging underway this date to significantly increase the marina size.

A nice break!, 2015-11-09
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, FL (728)

This newer marina is a great stop as you're heading down the Tenn-Tom. Boaters lounge and facilities are first class as well as the staff. Even got to enjoy the annual Halloween party while there.
This is the last real marina till Mobile and worth a few days stay to recharge.

Very good stop, 2015-11-06
Captain: , Ft Myers, Florida (1804)

Good facilities, well kept dock, excellent 5 machine laundry bring your own quarters, hard to get change. Easy in and out.
Get the rental car and eat at the Red Barn, very good food.

Best of the Tenn-Tom, 2015-11-05
Captain: , Iuka, MS (1130)

Very new and clean. Protected basin and mostly covered slips. Great transient lounge with multiple washer/dryer and bath/shower on floating concrete docks. Golf carts and courtesy car. The best of the 3 Tenn-Tom marinas we use (others are Columbus and Midway).

Very nice stop, 2015-11-02
Captain: , Beaver Island, MI (291)

First to clear up some confusion. Kingfisher and Demopolis Marina are one in the same. You hail them on 16 as "Demopolis Yacht Basin". If you need fuel you will pass the area to enter for your slip and in about 200 yards will see the fuel dock. As you make the 90 degree turn to port (downbound to LDB) keep the dock close to port and you will turn in with a port tie. Gets shallow just 100 ft off the end of the dock. After fueling you will come out and go upstream the 200 yards and turn starboard to enter the basin with the transient docks.
Car is in high demand so don't count on it if you only have one day. Other review have mentioned the shopping ect.

Kingfisher Bay Marina MM 217 Tenn-Tom (10/24 thru 10/27/15), 2015-10-29
Captain: , warm waters (828)

We were happy to land here just before the heavy rain and wind started on Saturday, 10/24/15. Due to that rain, we ended up staying until Tuesday (10/27). The staff was great, every one of them. The fuel dock area could use a dredging - we were throwing up mud and hit bottom with our 4' draft, even with pulling in and backing out, as staff suggested. The courtesy car is sufficient for running errands. Self serve pumpout at slips. Office, courtesy car, marine supply store are all located in marina next door (Dem. Yacht Basin) which was a bit inconvenient, mostly because the rain turned the path between them into a mud pit. It did make the golf cart ride very exciting. A large, comfortable common room at the end of the docks featured plenty of washers and dryers, showers and bathrooms, a big screen tv, and an info table. Also, there were plenty of tables and chairs for getting some work done. This was very helpful as the strongest wifi signal was in that building.

Of note: A new restaurant in the old downtown called "The Bistro" is well worth a stop. We enjoyed a wonderful meal, great conversation with the owners (the mayor and his wife) in an intimate and welcoming environment. We gave them AGLCA, Waterway Guide, and Active Captain contact info and encouraged them to reach out to discuss sponsorship.

Also of note: Demopolis Lockmaster likes people to lock through in a group. This person was very cranky to the point of being insulting. Handle with care.

Best Place on Tombigbee, 2015-10-08
Captain: , Mobile, AL (30)

I wanted to stay longer than just the one night! This place was great. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The facilities are all new and very clean! There was NOTHING we didn't like about this place. I plan to go back to just enjoy and relax verses passing through to get home.

Fantastic Marina, 2015-06-22
Captain: , charleston (831)

We stayed here 3 years ago and it is just as good as it was then. Pool, laundry facilities, bathrooms, lounge area are all first rate. Golf carts to get around -- office is half a mile away. Not really a problem. Courtesy car available too. Covered slips helped keep sun off of baot -- temps were in upper 90s. Helpful and friendly staff.

ONE OF THE FINEST, 2015-05-23
Captain: , Currently living aboard and cruising the Gulf Coast (260)

This is one of the finest marinas I have been in on the in;land waterways. This was my second stay while helping a friend bring his sailboat upriver.
The service was excellent as was the dock facilites and the rest/shower rooms and a very large laundromat. Demopolis is only a few minutes away and the marina has a courtesy car available and also several golf carts to get around thre marina.

Everything works, 2015-02-27
Captain: , Cincinnati (252)

This marina has become our home port. We venture south from here for winters and back in the spring. It's a great newer facility. Everything in the place works great, water, pump out at each slip, dock condition, clean restrooms and big laundry. All slips are single floating concrete docks, all make for easy docking and tie-up. Most slips are also covered. All staff memmbers are helpful and friendly. Demopolis is an under explored part of the country but if you have the time there lots on interesting sites and events within a 20 mile radius.

Nice suprise facility, 2015-02-08
Captain: , Chicago, Racine, Fish Creek,Wi (3189)

We stayed here Oct 28. It was much nicer than we expected. Good fuel prices and help at the fuel dock. Then we moved to dockage where we were also helped by friendly staff who helped hook everthing up. Facilities clean and pump outs free at your slip. Used courtesy truck to go grocery shopping, hardware store, & pick up a pizza. Used golf cart to get to office & on site ships store for spare navagation bulbs. Everyone was nice and friendly.

Welcomed Break, 2014-11-29
Captain: , Vinegar Post,VA (172)

This new marina has everything a Looper needs and they are still expanding. Very clean restrooms and showers. The lounge and laundry area are also appealing. It is a walk to the office, but golf carts are available. Courtesy vehicles are available for your convenience.

New Facilities, 2014-11-10
Captain: , Stuart (80)

Great facilities, super people and a cool little town.
A little dust from the construction, big deal.

Great Marina, Nice Folks, 2014-11-09
Captain: , Winter Garden, Fl (2391)

We stopped for one night but ended up staying for a few weeks due to a family emergency. The staff was extremely helpful and understanding - even though it was a busy 'Looper' time of the year, they made accomodations for us. The new docks are great - the staff keep everything clean & working...even the spiders are kept at bay! Once completed this will be a first class marina.

Good Marina on its way to being Great, 2014-11-06
Captain: , Westport CT (311)

This is a nice marina with new, sturdy docks, many covered, and a nice boaters lounge. The staff is very friendly and helpful and there's a courtesy car. The marina is new and is still expanding. The main office is a walk, but there are courtesy golf carts you can use to get there. Once deveopement is finished I could easily see this being a 5 star marina. There's a walmart and a grocery store nearby (by courtesy car)

Two marinas one managent, 2014-11-01
Captain: , little current (272)

We were confused as others have been. We went to the southern marina and asked for instructions. We did not need fuel so they told us to go to their other facility just back up river a hundred yards or so. Kingfisher Marina has two piers, each with 2/3 under cover. Nice facilities. The issues are with distance to walk around to the other marina where the office is. They are dredging out more of the kingfisher basin...I am assuming this will be a great facility when completed.

A bit confusing, but here is the scoop, 2014-11-01
Captain: , Charlestown (946)

There are two Marinas. Kingfisher is where you want to dock. Demopolis Yacht Basin is where you get fuel. As of this writing the water level was low, but 7 foot at the fuel dock. Head straight to the dock from a northern approach. and swing tight to the dock. DO NOT GO TOWARDS THE BOAT RAMP. and do not wander south of the last dolphin. Get your fuel and then head back to Kingfisher. Nice facilities, but the transient dock is a walk to the services. If you can, ask for a slip closer to the building. The courtesy car and golf carts need to be better organized, but at least they have some. The restaurant food was good and the place funky. Expect to leave smelling like smoke. The jambalaya was great. Staff was couteous and helpful.

Very nice and new full service Marina, 2014-10-26
Captain: , Gulf Breeze, Fl (6909)

This is a strategic location going north or south. A new facility with 1st rate service and amenities. Courtsey vehicles, at slip dock side pump out, boat repairs, etc. They are still expanding in this new basin planning to move the fuel dock from the south basin to the new facilities.

Another Great Marina, 2014-10-22
Captain: , Tarpon Springs (983)

From the North the entrance is not that apparent and didn't show on Garmin or Navionics. You turn to port immediately before and along the white sea wall short of the more obvious yacht basin. Very hospitable. Despite other reviews, we found the restaurant very good, and very convenient.

Great place to stop s/v Notre' Vie, 2014-10-20
Captain: , Gulf Shores Alabama (100)

Nice place to stop, great fuel prices 3.42 a gallon for diesel. Keith gave excellent customer service. Wi-Fi is ok. Verizon here is 5 bars LTE and AT&T is 3 bars LTE. Docks are new and the shower facilities are top notch.

Wonderful stop for boaters, 2014-09-28
Captain: , Russellville, AR (133)

July 2014 - 1 week stay: Very nice boaters lounge and clean marina. Offers a nice pool for boaters as well as a vegatable garden with in-season produce offered to boaters. Appears to have recently changed ownership and spending money on upgrades. Local car rental will pick you up. Interesting little city. Marina restaurant is just OK.

we would stay again, 2014-08-29
Captain: , Vero Beach, FL (654)

Pulled in late afternoon Sept 2012 fueled up and were escored to our slip. The marina is brand new what else could you say, the docks were so new the spiders have not found them yet.

Great place, 2014-08-13
Captain: , Atlanta (770)

We stopped here on our way north from Mobile to Chattanooga. The facilities are probably the best we have ever seen - new, clean, spacious. Fred and his crew have done a wonderful job here. They have a loaner car to get provisions in town, and the pool is great - especially as we were here during the middle of the summer (Demopolis in August - doesn't get much better than that). They even have home-grown veggies for the transients. A must-stop. We will definitely be back in October on our way back south.

Standard to which Marinas shold strive to., 2014-05-29
Captain: , Somerville, TN (201)

Never disappointed in the quality of the facilities. Always first class.

It is still a little challenging getting over to the fuel dock to pay your fees and the courtesy car needs some help. This small challenge is quickly overcome by the excellent staff.

Diesel fuel was $3.72/gallon on May 28th, 2014. They pump a LOT of fuel to the Tow boats, so you can feel comfortable knowing you are getting fresh fuel.

Helpful Fred, 2014-04-22
Captain: , waterloo,sc (22)

On Sunday,April13,2014,Teresa and me aand our crew of 5 dog, were going to follow another boat from Dog River to Demopolis. We lost steerage before reaching Mobile, and returned to our former dockage. We had requested a pull-out upon reaching Demopolis, and this being our 1st loop,we are unfamiliar with the river system.Fred called us back, and just didn't give me a short answer, but he took the time to find out a little of our history on GRACE,and offered a lot of "wisdom"about the rtivers. We talked 20-30 minutes, not the normal minute or two that we are used to from a busy Monday morning at a marina. My cap is off to you guys.

New & wonderful, 2013-12-04
Captain: , Meredith, NH (638)

We checked in at Demopolis Marina & were given a slip here. Apparently this is a part of Demopolis Marina. This is an outstanding facility that has a meeting building with 4 or more washers & dryers, TV room, upper deck meeting area, gas grills, outstanding restroom & shower facilities & more. It was a great 2 day stay & short walk to a wonderful old southern town that even has a couple old anti-bellum homes. Pland to stop here.

Needs Work........, 2013-11-22
Captain: , Muscatine, Iowa (50)

Poorly lighted at night for walking from the boat to the parking lot. The crew car is still at the old place and you have to take a golf cart a ways to transfer. Fuel and slip price is fine, but next time I would just fuel up and go on. Not at all convenient if you need provisions.

Great place to stop before the lock, 2013-11-22
Captain: , Patrick AFB Florida (1254)

This is a BIG improvement over the older (and silting in) companion marina (the Demopolis Yacht Basin). The slight inconvenience is outweighed by the beautiful new floating docks, both covered (with good enough height for most trawlers) and uncovered. Entrance is immediately downstream from the barges shown in the satellite view, cut through the narrow strip of land; it's now lined wih a metal bulkhead. Didn't need any supplies so had no experience with the loaner car but one is available. Good WiFi, nice lounge with extremely clean heads, showers and laundry facilities. Cost was $1.25 per foot. Located at mile 217.

The on-site restaurant (about 3/4 mile) is accessible via provided golf carts or by a telephone call. Make sure you get the golf cart with the working headlights if you're going for dinner! Food was good - try the shriimp and fried grits for something a little different in the way of fried grits.

Getting Better All the Time, 2013-11-15
Captain: , MV Red Head (3106)

Kingfisher Bay Marina has all the features for a wonderful stop. Sturdy, wide docks, a deep harbor, clean facilities, a nice boater's lounge, and friendly staff. But Fred and Kim are continually working to make it even better. They are dredging to add even more dockage, there are plans to enhance the grounds and move the office closer to the transients docks, and much more.Fred has a customer service focus and works to provide the best he can to boaters. Yes, the checkin is a walk, but really not that far - we did it several times with the dogs. There are golf carts to use if you do not wish to walk which we always found available. There's a courtesy car that allows you to provision or go out for dinner. Make sure to eat at the Red Barn for good southern cooking and hospitality. It's a nice facility which we know will be even nicer the next we stop in.

new and very nice, 2013-11-11
Captain: , Chattanooga tn (281)

Very helpful at fuel dock at demopolis with fuel and check in. Need golf cart to get to ship store or courtesy car but always available. Clean, well taken care of nice laundry, shower and boater lounge. Helpful staff can reprovision. Water at docks at least 8. Would stop again

Good stop but resources are a little limited, 2013-11-10
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens, FL (1997)

Spent a week here waiting for friends before we headed south.

A good marina where the staff are very friendly and helpful, two loaner vehicles available.

Excellent laundry and shower facilities, when its all completed it will be great but you get to use your bike as the three golf carts are not always available.

Will definitely stay again because the staff really care.

Kingfisher, 2013-11-06
Captain: , Chicago, IL (1056)

We spent 4 days at Kingfisher, did not have an issue with availability of golf carts and were able to get the courtesy car whenever we needed it (could be because it's late in the season). Pump outs located along the dock, facilities are modern and well maintained, staff was helpful and courteous.

New and Modern, 2013-10-31
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (602)

The only negative about Kingfisher (same owner as Demopolis Yacht Basin) is that you have to take a golf cart to check in, go to the on-site restaurant, or use the courtesy car which stays a Demopolis Yacht Harbor. There are two golf carts, but people are not always considerate of their use, i.e. they leave them at DYH while they are gone for two hours in the courtesy car.
Great floating docks (some covered), abundant laundry machines, lounge with big screen, large clean restrooms with three showers, WiFi, water, 30 and 50 amp, Cable TV,pumpout at slips, book exchange, covered party deck over the laundry/restrooms/boaters lounge.
Plenty of shopping and restaurants nearby in Demopolis. You can bike to a few but for most you will need the courtesy car.
Great stop for a day or a month.

Disappointing, 2013-10-26
Captain: , Beaufort, S.C. (640)

After reading previous reviews we may have been expecting too much of this marina, but I would say our experience was just OK. We were on a long dock far from the building with restrooms, laundry etc so we did not use these facilities. No one came to help catch our lines, but we were able to get tied up without help. You have to go around to the yacht basin to pay. There was no golf cart available for our use so it was a long walk(about 1/2 mile). Although TV was listed as an amenity on the sheet we were given at check in, it did not work on our dock. Wifi was good. If I were to stop here again I would request a slip close to the building with the bathrooms or perhaps just stay at the Demopolis Yacht Basin next door.

Excellent Customer Service, 2013-10-25

This is the nicest marina we stayed at from Kentucky Lake to Mobile. It is new with floating docks, laundry and shower facilities at the end of the transit docks; courtesy golf carts. Town lacks good resturants, or we did not find any, but the marina is the best. Definate stop in the future. Stayed only one night...should have stayed two.

Great stop, 2013-09-29
Captain: , Gulf Breeze, FL (603)

We have stayed here on several occasions. This marina is fantastic. Would you believe upscale laundry facility and beautiful rest rooms? There is even a swimming pool on the property. Demopolis is very country. No rental cars. The Red Barn is the best restaurant in town and is Very Good. Courtesy car has been upgraded. Fred runs a very tight ship with a commitment to quality.

Focus appears to be on live-aboard retirees -- interesting. Great service. First marina in my experience to employ AIS to hail registered/approaching guests. Bathrooms well appointed with lockers for repeat users to store their toiletries. Loaner golf carts, car & pick-up.

Others have said it all. This marina deserves six stars.

What a Jewel in the wilderness, 2013-06-02
Captain: , Punta Gorda FL (1709)

This place has it all at $1.25 a foot. Pool, covered slips, air conditioned showers, laundry, gold carts, courtesy car, staff that will do anything to help, and a fuel dock with the best prices around. Most north and southbound cruisers stop here. Very friendly and everyone is willing to share their experiences with you. Introduce yourself and let the stories flow. Fred is the manager and part owner. Ask him about how he put the deal together to build this jewel in the wilderness. It is a testiment to American entrepreneurship.

Outstanding Facility, 2013-02-04
Captain: , Perry, Kansas (317)

This harbor is in its second year, docks with pumpouts by slips, self service, works well, large on dock laundry, showers, restrooms with large screen TV, watched the Super Bowl there with other loopers. It is part of Demopolis Yach Basin. The older part could use some upgrades, especiaslly in comparison to Kingfisher Bay side. Outstanding Marina personnel.

Really Good Repairs If You Need Them, 2012-12-19
Captain: , Madison, CT (90)

DYB crew just managed an almost total engine rebuild for me at EXTREMELY reasonable rates. Matt the head mechanical guy really knows his stuff, and Fred and the rest of the crew are the nicest people imaginable.

The pace in Alabama is a bit deliberate, but that enabled us to become friends with this really fine group of people. From Keith the gas buy to Wayne the Watchman and Trinella in parts they are all as customer-oriented as can be.

When Kingfisher gets finished and they get rid of the dirt road, it will be one of the nicest stops on the Rivers.

Brand New, Beautiful, 2012-11-25
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (1850)

This google pic is out dated. There are now two HUGE full-on floating shed covered docks with lots of non-covered slips on the north side of the basin. Vast turning basen for easy ins and outs. Brand spanking new this season. Laundry faciltiy, johns and lounge area also brand new. First class all the way. Golf carts right there available to drive over to the older facility, marina office, parts and service. Loaner car. Great wifi. Pump out at the slips. Excellent.

Nice New Marina, 2012-11-16
Captain: , Detroit (767)

New facility at Kingfisher is very nice. Floating docks are great and restrooms and showers are nice and clean. While it is a distance from the office the available golf carts simplify that issue.

Fred, owner of both this & Demopolis, is an exceptional person. He has many more plans for a restaurant, indoor pool, and spa. By 2013, the outdoor pool will be heated! Docks, laundry, etc. are just the best possible. Unfortunately, no good restaurants or shopping in town. Two courtest cars available. More golf carts to transverse between the 2 marinas would be helpful until the office facility is more centrally located.

Matt, service manager, is knowledgeable and work performed was accurate. Fuel dock, security, & maintenance staff are pleasantly helpful. But Fred was the best as he goes out of his way to sovle our problems in any way possible.

good marina but not much in town, 2012-10-26
Captain: , Cape Coral FL (4188)

Nice new marina BUT you have to go over to the old marina to register. The restaurant is in the old marina. To get there you either WALK (about half mile) or take their golf cart across the gravel and dusty road. Staff are excellent and polite and will do anything for you. We went into town and its depressing. No new jobs here in the last 4 years !!!! Looks economically depressed with many store front vacant and hardly any traffic on the streets.

They're gonna spoil us...., 2012-10-13
Captain: , Oneida, TN (415)

By the time you've done the Great Loop, you fancy yourself something of an authority on what constitutes good cruiser amenities. You can tell the ones that probably had their hearts in the right place, but just didn't understand what we need. Trust me when I tell you... Fred and his people KNOW what we need. Picture this: Plenty of high quality washers and dryers in an air-conditioned building with a big-screen TV. Primo rest rooms with granite (yes, granite) counters, three showers per gender, each with curtained changing area, hooks, bench, white shag bathmats, shower stalls with seats, hand-held shower heads... it's PERFECT! On top of the building, but under the roof is a large deck/party area with wet bar, perfect for sundowners or get-togethers with other cruisers. Did I mention the swimming pool? They have a central pumpout system. Hose on a cart you take to the receptacle near your slip. Works beautifully! Do it at your own convenience and to your own satisfaction! No extra charge. The only negative (if you can call it that) is that during this transitional time, where the business is all conducted at the old facility and you're staying at the new one, your "lifeline" is a golfcart (or two) which gets you over to the old facility and the courtesy car (actually a truck ;^). If someone else is using the vehicles, you're fairly well stranded (unless you opt for a cab or rental car), but they do a good job in the office (fuel dock) of seeing to it that the courtesy car is not monopolized. In the future, when operations move over to this facility, this will no longer be an issue. In fact, it was no issue for us. Even though most of the transient slips were occupied during our stay, we managed a WalMart run as well as a pedicure for the Admiral. Fred and crew have done a fantastic job here. I encourage the cruising community to thank them with our patronage!

Nice, new facility, 2012-10-03

Kingfisher Bay Marina, 2012-05-01
Captain: , Texas (80)

Very nice. Fred, Kim and the Taylors did thier homework about what boaters like and are implementing those features.

The Boat Yard is full service and run well by Matt. Although, Matt is not a good turkey hunter, he does well working on boats.

A real yacht basin, 2012-01-30
Captain: , Chattanooga (327)

Pulled in for a day and stayed three weeks. Fantastic job done by Fred to establish a basin adjacent to the old harbor that meets the definition of the label of the old harbor. Best boaters laundry and boaters lounge that we have seen on the loop. This will fast become a destination when the word gets out.

Great new facility, 2011-11-19
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (7375)

Kingfisher is great new facility, run by Demopolis Yacht Basin. Go to the Yacht Basis first to check in, fuel up. Kingfisher still under construction as of 11/19, but is fully operational. Very nice boaters lounge with washer/dryers, multiple showers, sitting area with TV. Pump outs available at every slip. Golf carts provided to get to rest of facility, restaurant. Courtesy car.

Brand new facility, 2011-11-13

Very nice and much needed, 2011-11-06
Captain: , Plattsmouth, Nebraska (130)

The on dock lounge, laundry and restroom facilities are open. There are 5 washers and dryers, soak sink, large TV, his and hers restrooms with 3 showers each, etc. Very nice right at the end of Pier 1. All of the features you could want including inslip pumpouts. There are 40,50,60, and 70 ft slips, both covered and open. Fred and all of the crew are great as always. There is a new travel lift pit in the new Kingfisher Bay giving access to the big haulout yard. Golf carts are provided for the short trip to the offices, fuel dock, shops and rental cars. Condos, resturant, pools,
are all being evaluated.

The new boaters lounge is open!, 2011-10-28
Captain: , Bonita Springs, FL (413)

he new marina is beautiful, the service is wonderful. It really is a five star but has no swimming pool so I had to use only four stars. The marina is run by Fred and he could not be more accommodating. THe new boaters lounge opened yesterday and it is nicer than many homes I have been in. They did a great job. Next week we will be hauled out to replace the cutlass bearings on our 2 %u201D shaft. We have been stopping here for ten plus years and this is a place I trust to do the work.
