Reviews for Killarney Mountain Lodge
Still a treat, been coming since 1964, 2016-09-01
Captain: , LaSalle MI (575)

The town is basically unchanged since 1964, but that is a good thing. Simple times away from the hustle abd bustle. Not a great spot to provision, but a really great spot to relax. Docks and lodge is updated, but still has the charm and quaintness from years past. Pool, game room, great dining, sauna, use of kayaks, paddleboards and canoes. Greaty spot for kids to burn energy. Bears prowl the town and grounds at night.

Wait and nothing happens, 2016-08-27

We were traveling with a couple other boats and we couldn%u2019t get to Killarney Mtn. Lodge on a Tuesday evening as they and Sportsman%u2019s were totally full (it%u2019s the height of the season). So we elected to anchor nearby and head in for lunch, some diesel, gas for the dinghy, pump out, and to top our water tanks.

After calling at the lighthouse, when we got to the Mountain Lodge%u2019s fuel dock, it was full so we circled 15 minutes while our traveling partners opted to go to Sportsman%u2019s. After waiting, we were directed to the inside of the fuel dock where we tied.

Despite Red and 3-4 other attendants around, not much seemed to happen and disorganization seemed to be the hallmark of the day.

They ran totally out of gas on the fuel dock after I%u2019d put oil in my dingy tank? Their pump-out pump ran out of gas and they had to run somewhere to get a can of gas. We did take on some diesel and water after prodding any dock attendant who walked by. They were having trouble pumping another boat out. Knowing I%u2019d now have to take gas at Sportsman%u2019s, I settled up my bill at Killarney Mtn. Resort and left without gas or pumping out.

As I arrived at the boat, the attendants, without knowing I%u2019d settled up, started pumping-out another boat that had just come to the dock, verifying my decision to go to Sportsman%u2019s to finish my servicing. Thumbs down for Killarney Mtn. Resort in my book!

New ownership is quickly moving this marina and resort from old, quaint, shopworn to the nicest marina in all of Georgian Bay and North Channel. There are new docks, power, and water. Yes, they do dock boats two deep, but that was the only way they could expand. The staff members are all enthusiastic and helpful. They run to give you a hand. They clean every power pedestal every day. Red, the dockmaster, makes sure that your every need is taken care of. The restaurant is outstanding - beautiful environment and interesting/delicious meals. We ate at the restaurant two nights with a group of 10 people and every person raved about their meal.

Great fuel dock, 2016-08-20
Captain: , North East, MD (316)

Got diesel, a pumpout, and fresh water at their fuel dock. Very friendly and efficient service. The slips and grounds look attractive but we didn't stay.

Nice Facility, 2016-08-13
Captain: , Bedford, NH (625)

Plan was to stay one night, Aug 12 but stayed for 2 due to weather. Dock staff very nice and helpful. Brand new docks but the configuration is a little weird. Pull up alongside piers which hold 2 large boats on each side but the fairway between them isn't big enough for the inside boat to get out if they are full. Might have to move your boat to let someone out if you are on the outside end or wait for someone else to move theirs so you can get out if you are on the inside end. Also, strong current coming off of Georgian Bay which hits you on the beam so you will rock and roll all night. Wakes aren't really a problem, it is a no wake zone. Restaurant on site is very busy so make reservations ahead of time unless you want to eat at 5 when they open. Food is good. It is a resort so there are ammenities such as a pool, game room and Coffee Hut and Cafe. Not much else around but a couple of other, very casual, places to eat. Sister facility a little further down the waterway has a spa. Dock configuration for access and current hitting the boat has this a 3 star rating instead of 4.

Beautiful place, 2016-08-12
Captain: , Blanco, TX (420)

08/07/2016 Best docks we've seen, easy access, staff was wonderful. Would stop here again and one of the best meals we've had on this trip.

good staff, friendly place, 2015-09-06
Captain: , Wilmington, DE (780)

nearby resort adds ambience and amenities to this otherwise fairly nondescript, but pleasant enough marina. dockhansd were good and the place seemed professionally run. some docks are older, but alll seemed well maintained. will get some wake here, as will all the other local marinas on this channel.

Killarney Mt Lodge, 2015-09-03
Captain: , Catawba Island Ohio (530)

Red the dockmaster very service oriented. Nice new floating docks. Red adirondack chairs at the end of the docks and around the grounds. Older shower rooms were large, clean with good pressure and hot water. You can use the heated pool or use the swimming dock on the channel. We used one of their canoes for an evening paddle. Canoes or kayaks are for your use. There is a little onsite pastery/coffee shop right by the docks. Wifi worked fine for us. The new owners seem to be doing all the right things. We love Killarney but miss the Gateway restaurant and I know it should be the same fish but they don't, to me, taste as good as when they fried them in the bus. Maybe I don't like change.

great docks, 2015-08-24
Captain: , Grand Haven (470)

We stayed at this location two nights. The dock master (RED) was a great help. Our slip "U" was a long distance from the showers. They are old and need an update but clean. Dock fee was $1.75/ft. plus tax and $10 for each 30 amp hook-up. Gas was $1.59/liter.

As close to five stars as you can get in these parts., 2015-08-23
Captain: , Algonac, MI (1659)

Good wifi reception at A-dock. Pool and rec room are a great bonus. Only thing lacking is that the showers are rather rustic. I guess that's OK for a "mountain lodge."

Excellent marina; WIFI not so hot, 2015-08-14
Captain: , Portland, Oregon (496)

We loved the marina and Red the dock attendant was particularly helpful when docking and after we were there. We visited the lodge but the facilities are pretty far from the boats so did not use the excellent restrooms, sauna, and pool. We tried to get WIFI from the boat without success and it wasn't any better from the bar/lounge.

Great spot two good choice in Killarney , 2015-07-11
Captain: , Ft Myers, Florida (1663)

We really like Killarney Mtn Lodge. They have new floating docks, water at your slip, 50 amp power, heated pool, good bathrooms, kayak's and other water toys to rent, great dock master, chairs at the end of each pier, restaurant on site, live music Sunday - Thursday. The Sportsman is also 5 stars, has floating docks, great bathrooms, sports bar and fine dining on site, work out room, laundry. We like Mountain lodge but Sportsman is also very good.
Laundry next door to Mtn lodge at General store , store has limited high priced supplies. Town has a Catholic Church, several Marinas, Several Ice Cream shops. Fuel available at both Sportsman and Mtn Lodge, diesel and gas are $1.49/ltr at Sportsman. Mtn lodge has a Pumpout and charges about $1.75/ft plus electric.

New ownership, 2015-06-22
Captain: , Trujillo, Honduras (36)

New owners in 2015. Docks upgraded and new. Fuel dock and store renovated and new. Renovations continuing on the property. 50 and 30 amp power. Restaurant has a new chef and great food.
Community is changing, Fish and Chip bus now a new building. Pastry shop owner passed away and the family closed it.

Great stop for a night or two. Well protected marina and good docks. We always walk down the road to The School bus for fish and chips.

park setting, 2014-08-01
Captain: , Massapequa,NY (986)

Very quiet marina in a park like setting. Pool on premises. Close to town.

Go here for dinner!, 2014-07-29
Captain: , Nowhere,OK (1314)

I cheated, we walked here from Sportsmans to eat dinner.

This is the PLACE to go to. Our meals were both great (pork schnitzel and beef fillet, great mashed potatoes). We had dessert in the round 1960's style lodge bar. Yes it does have a fireplace in the middle! Service was great and the bar staff made a custom drink for dessert.

I know AC is all about the marina, but even if you are at the other end of town, this is well worth the walk. We rate it as well in the top 10 places we've eaten while in Canada.

nice spot but wifi is poor, 2014-07-06
Captain: , basking ridge, nj (130)

The dock attendants were well trained - actually looped our lines around a cleat rather than just trying to pull the boat in against the wind / tide. We enjoyed a lovely overnight here. $1.75/foot. Walk to town. Showers, by the pool, were fine. Wifi cannot be accessed from the boat, only from the lodge. And there is a data limit. When you exceed it, the front desk is happy to reinstate you, but it is all a nuisance. On the other hand, each device has its own login, so more secure than the free, open, fast wifi at the sportsman inn.

Killarney Mountain Lodge Marina, 2014-07-02
Captain: , Port Franks (176)

We loved this place. It was expensive but you get to use the facilities of the resort like the sauna, pool and Kayak rentals. It has easy walking access to all the Killarney hotspots. Docks are a little dated and squeaky but have water and 30 amp electric.

Killarney Mountain Lodge Marina, 2013-08-03
Captain: , Patrick AFB Florida (1254)

This is a combo marina/lodge and the heads (and the sauna) are situated so as to be convenient to the swimming pool and not for the convenience of the marina end of the business, making it a long walk to the heads/showers. Once there, the setup is fairly basic, nothing at all as nice as you might expect from the $1.75/foot charge for dockage.

With that one observation, it's a nice, quiet place to stay with a short walk to "town" and a GREAT fish and chips place (probably the busiest place in town) and a few ice cream places. For the best price on ice cream go to the Sportsman's Inn (in their dock shop). The place on the way (close to the fish and chips place) that sells ice cream is overpriced and the scoops miniscule! Great breakfast at the small restaurant between the boat launch ramp and the Sportsman's Inn.

Killarney Mountain Lodge Marina, 2013-07-15
Captain: , Parry Sound (1031)

Update 2013: The docks have been rebuilt (everything to the west of the main gas dock)... now very stable, and nice wide steps down to the floating portion of the docks, which have also been rebuilt.

I was there in 2010 and the docks do need some money put into them. They do work but watch your step. The gas dock has a fairly serious ramp between two level of docks, one fixed and one floating and the ramp is rickety.

That said, access to the docks is about as simple as it gets, and everyone that works there is cheerful and helpful.

Would we stay there again, yes!

If they fixed the docks would it get 5 stars, yes!!

Very good service at fuel dock and resturant. Use of nice pool included with overnight. Nice showers

Relaxing and Well Maintained, 2012-12-27
Captain: , Wye Heritage Marine Resort (10)

My son and I stopped in for a night coming of Georgian Bay. The staff were very friendly and got us 'salted' away for the night. We enjoyed the pool but missed the restaurant. Very short walk to the village and groceries. The Lodge had a real family feel to it and we plan on stopping in again.

We Liked it a Lot, 2012-07-15
Captain: , punta gorda, fl (1328)

Although the docks are a bit old they are perfectly safe and serviceable. The lodge grounds are attractively landscaped. The restaurant was great (we ate here both nights we were at the lodge in early July 2012.). The bar had a great entertainer both nights we were there. Nice swimming pool. Neat place.

Killarney Mountain Lodge, 2012-01-28
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (190)

I'll give it 5 stars because I really enjoyed my two days here in July 2011. Harbormaster is a circumnavigator who knows his stuff. The lodge facilities could use some work, but the lounge was comfortable for wifi use, and the bathhouse was clean and serviceable. I liked the fish at the famous Red Bus. Nothing fancy, but lightly breaded and tasty.

The Place to Tie-Up in Killarney, 2011-11-09
Captain: , Midland, Ontario (475)

Killarney Mountain Lodge has the amenities to keep kids occupied for a couple of days. The Lodge, although clean, is in desperate need of repairs and upgrades - it looks like its last refit was in the '60's. The docks haven't got much life left in them. This should be the location fo the next "Dirty Dancing' sequel ...

Un-needed Attitude, 2011-09-02
Captain: , cambridge,ohio (20)

We had dinner here 1 evening in Aug. When we were met at the entrance we were asked if we had reservations (we did not). We were told we could wait in the lounge until they could serve us. In order to get to the lounge we had to pass through the dining room, which we could then see from the lounge. We waited in the lounge for over an hour and I never did see dining room occupancy exceed 50% and most of the hour it was less. The meal was good when we were finally served, but we saw no reason for such a delay.

Best marina in Killarney, 2011-08-17
Captain: , Bay City, MI (609)

Lots to offer, a pool, sauna, wifi in comfortable Carousel Bar. Entertainment at night. Great restaurant. Charming boathouse. Docks are aging and not as secure as I would like in a storm. Wakes along the channel can rock you.

Killarney Moutain Lodge, 2011-07-31
Captain: , Jeffersonville, IN (582)

Always a favorite in the past, this is showing it's age and needs some attention if it is going to be attractive in the future. The docks are marginal although they will hold your boat. Lots of activities available here. Well protected fuel stop. A great family stop with old time flair.

Pricey for average quality docks., 2011-07-17
Captain: , Mesa AZ (1609)

Good professional service on docks. Large heated pool is very nice in summer. Grounds are manicured...connvenient to have bar/restaurant on premises.

Timewarp to the 1950's, 2011-04-22
Captain: , Toronto (203)

This is the place that time forgot. Home-style cooking. Great bar with live music and a circular fireplace. Pool and saunas. Rooms are small cabins connected by outdoor walkways.

Killarney Mountain Lodge, 2010-04-17
Captain: , Sarnia (141)

Lodge itself is getting dated but it is clean. Restaurant serves good food. Dock hands/dock mster very helpful, as they are also cruising boaters. Docks are a little rickety but serviceable. Had to stay there for a few days during a blow and rainy cold (11 Celsius in late August!) weather with our three children, there was lots for them to do in the lodge though.

Very Canadian small fishing town ish, 2009-08-12
Captain: , Key Largo (5304)

Pool, laudry, water, nice docks, entertainment, dinner, and believe it or not, decent drink prices at the lodge.
Wasn't that inpressed with the fish from the bus in town, however.

Killarney Mountain Lodge, 2009-06-20
Captain: , Clear Lake, TX (694)

Nice heated pool & shower/restroom facilities a little walk from docks. Floating docks low to the water and somewhat rickety. Great staff emt us and help us dock in the wind & current. Little protection from an East wind.
Nice Lodge & restaurant looked good (We did not use though). Wireless internet available in Card room in Lodge. Also a nice round bar, kayak & canoe rentals & hiking trails.
