Reviews for Keys Boat Works
Very Friendly!, 2015-11-14
Captain: , Sarasota, FL (60)

Called when we had issues with our generator and Sharon was very helpful and fit us in for dockage right away. It's no resort, but is a great spot to stay on your boat while work is done. The showers are nice, work goes on during the day and there is a beautiful view of the sunset. Watching various boats being hauled and launched was interesting and next to our dock was several feet of crystal clear water that provided a daily aquarium of tropical fish viewing. The dogs used it as their personal swimming pool and loved it. The owners do have big dogs that are residents in the yard. So, if you have dogs, Mike will warn you. They got along fine with our dogs but be prepared.

According to the owners, Marlin Bay Marina next door has plans to take over the facility. There isn't a set date, but there are construction crews working on Marlin Bay daily and they are making rapid progress. So, definitely call before pulling in unannounced.

Top notch repair facility, 2015-05-14
Captain: , Kemah, TX (395)

I spent two months here getting major repairs. During my passage from Houston to the Keys the rigging and chainplate on the starboard side were pulling through the deck due to a severely rotted bulkhead. This is a boat yard where you can live aboard while the work is being done and you can hire your own contractors or use the boatyard's. The Boat Yard has a strong and reliable Wi-Fi signal most of the time, Home Depot is a half mile away, West Marine is 1.6 miles, and restaurants are all around. You can pick up the Boot Key cruiser’s net on CH 68 every morning at 9 am. Approach has some six foot depths at low tide.

Ricky Allen at Keys Boat Works rebuilt the bulkhead and made it stronger than ever before. His finish work on the teak interior (an entire wall and several cabinets) was beautiful. Ricky is a top notch shipwright. Gary Shotwell of Keys Rigging provided the rigging service and also did great work. I found him to very particular about getting the details right. I had my brightwork, electronics, and a little canvas work, a new alternator and my watermaker all repaired by outside contractors. It's a small close knit community and easy to find reliable contractors. Mike and Sharon, who run the marina, are very kind and helpful.

Great boat yard, 2014-11-04
Captain: , Key West, FL (150)

Boat is here again for some work and Mike and Sharon are very helpful. Getting some electrical, plumbing, painting, and upholstery work done and their recommendations have been excellent. Second time to stay on the hard here (different boat each time). Glad to be here-excellent boat yard.

UNFINISHED WORK AND WRONG ADVICE ON HEAD PROBLEM, 2014-10-29
Captain: , Chelsea, NY12512 (481)

Although the people working at this company are nice, I expected competent serrvice for the $150/hr they charge. They're tech correctly diagnosed that there was a blockage in my manual heads system. He worked for 1 1/2 hours only to informe me the boat needed to be hauled to repair problem. I called another company who sent out a teck who did fix the head.

Great Boat Yard Great People, 2014-09-30
Captain: , Boca Raton (50)

I used this boat yard for bottom painting and prep for launching. The people in the office were all very helpfull in all aspects.

Don't expect a luxury yard here and the price reflects that so...6 stars for value.

Yes, I would use it again!

Excellent Yard, 2013-04-22
Captain: , Key West, FL (90)

This is our go to yard in the Keys. The owners and staff are all great people. Anything you need they can get. The contactors they use are all top of the line.

Won't be back, 2012-02-12
Captain: , Fort Myers (749)

Went in for some minor work and had damage to boat on the haul out/in. Mostly cosmetic, was told that there was nothing they could do about it. Worked preformed was average. Because of the proximity of other boats they were working on, when we got our boat back, it was filthy dirty with dust and overspray.

Marina does allow boaters to work on their own boats or bring in a sub.
