Reviews for Kalmar Yacht Harbour
Pros and Cons - Kalmar Marina, 2013-03-20
Captain: , Guernsey (820)

PRO-
Excellent Marine with good berthing-mostly bow.stern too moorings.
No depth restrictions. We are 51ft and deep draft and always found a suitable berth.

Good water/power and WIFI facilities.
In season (July/August) get in early to secure a berth
Out of season VERY easy to get a berth.
Fuel is both Green and White diesel- easy access on North Side of inner harbour/guest harbour. You will see it on Starboard side as you enter the guest Harbour.
Watch out for the ferry from the island - it comes in fast.
Access to shops is excellent - both on the dockside as well as up town. It is a long walk to the big grocery store in centre of town.
The Government Alchohol store (Systembolagette) is also in centre of town.
Train station is right next to the guest harbour.
In season the harbour master will collect fees on the dock but out of season you need to go to the Harbour Office which is in the Tourist Information Office immediately inside the guest harbour - next to the showers and toilets.
Quality of some of the restaurants is excellent - Favourite is The Green Door (Very close to harbour)
MUST get on your bike and take a ride over to the castle and park - well worth seeing. It is also very easy to ride a bike in Sweden as there is always a bike track OR they are happy for you to mingle with the pedestrians so long as you ride slowly.
I dissagree with comment on current being strong - the Baltic has no real tide (Max 0.5m) mostly due to atmospheric reasons (Pressure and or wind) this does produce a slight current if wind direction is prolonged but barely noticable.

CONS
If a NE summer gale is forecast DO NOT hang onto a mooring at the outer reaches of guest harbour - we spent a very uncomfortable 24hrs with everyone bashing around alarmingly.
