Reviews for Jolly Harbour Marina
very welcoming faciiity, 2017-03-24
Captain: , Hampton, VA (2573)

We used the dinghy dock and not the marina itself. Dinghy dock provided tie-up rails and lower height docks for easy transition to and from the dinghy.

Marina fuel dock was happy to fill our gas cans for the dinghy.

Stores including the large Budget Marine are excellent. Food shopping is very convenient at the large supermarket with lots of items not found elsewhere on the island. Marina-based restaurants very good.

Everything just feels much more inviting than the English Harbor/Portsmouth area.

A small rant, 2016-12-21
Captain: , Stratham (735)

the only way Active Captain reporting will work for the entire community is if we put our person biases and agendas aside. A prior poster commented that the entire Jolly Harbor was a sewage dump for the condos ringing it. Now let%u2019s give him the benefit of the doubt: perhaps the municipal sewage pump was offline or there was a higher concentration than normal of cruisers leaving a dirty wake and pumping overboard. But to allege that the condos are continuously pumping their waste into their backyard is absurd and outrageous on the face of it. We visited the marina for six nights and not for a moment did we detect sewage aroma. We did detect regular trash burning upwind of the marina. Clearly with thousands of posts Active Captain cannot exercise editorial review on all posts. But if they read this comment, I would urge them to delete the post below. I have no connection to the marina or the condos or Antigua. We found Jolly Harbor to be a fine stop.

Nice marina, but docks need some work and wifi unreliable, 2016-12-20
Captain: , Severna Park, MD (461)

Nice marina with lots of stores for provisioning. The docks are all sagging and are in need of replacement. Wifi is spotty, at best. WARNING: Avoid purchasing anything electrical or electronic from Budget Marina. If you need to return an item, they will hire an "electrician" to certify that it hasn't been used and then charge you a hefty fee for his services. I purchased a battery charger, took it out of the box, read the manual and realized it wasn't going to work. Within hours, I returned it. But, it took days of back and forth with customer service to get my money (or at least some of it) back. In addition, I noticed several instances of bizarre pricing in the store -- two identical items, each with wildly differing prices, sometimes several times the amount on one. Caveat emptor!

Jolly Harbour Marina, 2016-12-11
Captain: , Leamington, Ontario (710)

Our boat six foot draft, 65 air draft sailboat. Great entrance, diesel fuel not cheap, 1137 e.c. for 90 Imperial gallons. Good water depth, fixed cement docks. Great grocery store across the street, Budget marine just walking distance away. Told by staff not to drink water from dock spigots, buy bottled water. Friendly dockmaster and assistants, very well protected. 24 hour security. Showers suck, little to no water pressure in men's side, apparently ladies side ok. Mooring balls available as well, great dinghy dock.

If you enjoy staying in a sewage pit you'll love this place, 2016-06-19
Captain: , St. John USVI (1305)

All the condos are dumping their untreated sewage directly into the harbour and canals and you can easily smell it as you approach the harbour. Stay outside the harbour for much nicer anchorage and scenery.

Moorings are easy, 2016-04-17
Captain: , Texas (465)

Moorings are in about 15' of water just off the channel on the left as you head for the customs dock. Just pick up any open mooring and dinghy to the marina to register and pay.

Welcoming and professional, 2016-04-08
Captain: , Bristol (306)

Stayed here for a month while waiting for crew change and to have some minor repairs done. Boatyard lift very easy - in/out and wash for USS13.75 per foot. Several predicatable restaurants in marina complex, plus Miracles (the best of the bunch) just outside. Very sheltered with stern-to mooring. Alongside berths available but double the cost. Met lots of owners who were leaving their boats for the summer in the boatyard. St John (Antigua capital) is XCD$3.25 bus ride away. I would definitely come here again although there is a large anchorage outside which is easily accessbile via dinghy.

Kept my boat at Jolly Harbor Marina in a slip and on shore for 11 months.Very friendly people, excellent beach, good facilities for repair and some very nice restaurants. Make sure you go to Shirly Hieghts on a Sunday for Island music and a BBQ. Cons, water could be a little more clear, but still a beautifull beach.

Stayed on mooring, 2015-01-06
Captain: , Southampton , UK (1327)

We paid $25 a night for the mooring ball. There is no discount no matter how long you stay.

The marina is in need of updating. The showers have recently been refurbished and are ok.

The wifi is very spotty even with a booster. For us the only reason we took a mooring is to have wifi over Christmas so we could call family.

The staff are excellant though and are very friendly and helpful.

We really liked the anchorage just by the entrance and there is a lot in Jolly harbour to enjoy. The onsite supermarket is one of the best we have found in the Carribean.

Great protection in harbor., 2015-01-05
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens, FL (20)

We spent a month at the dock next to the Al Porto restaurant and had a great time. Power was good, staff was helpful, and the rates are reasonable (Dec 2014). Al Porto restaurant is fantastic! Grocery store right down the street. Only downside was very slow wifi. We would definitely stay here again.

Well protected easy access. Staff very helpful especially William the dockmaster. Slip rates are good but electricity is high with water at dock reasonable. Nice grocery near by. Four restaurants on property with Al Portal near customs being the best

The approach has/is being re-dredged (Jan 2014) which has slightly changed the original channel which is now also marked with extra buoys in pairs which are unlit.

The marina has a complicated system of mooring between poles in pairs, so the Dockmaster has to re-thread your neighbour's bow ropes in front of you once you are berthed. The electrical supply can take 220 or 110v, American or European fittings. The water and electric is charged by usage. It is also possible to take a buoy on the way in (by the customs) for US$20 per night. There is also a cheaper, older dock (A?) which is discounted. If you belong to the Cruising Assoc or OCC the marina offers discounts on presentation of a membership card.

It appears that some money is finally being spent on improving the marina and its surroundings. The women's showers have been done up, but the men's have merely been re-tiled, both are key-pad entrance now. The wifi reception from HotHotHot is poor, and the Marina's, though free, can be intermittent.

The bar on the front is advertised as being open till midnight but unfortunately goes on till 0130 hrs and it is very loud. Worse on Wed & Thurs evenings the bars have karaoke which is also audible around the marina. And then there is the shuttle boat out to the party boat anchored in the bay, which has on occasions had fighting partygoers on the quay! Or am I just getting old?!

There is a very good Greek restaurant, Akropolis, newly opened on the front. Plus a another posh one further along (but service is reputed to be poor), also a cheaper cafe off the taxi rank area. The Epicurean supermarket can be very hit or miss: we have sometimes found it badly stocked. It had new owners in June 2013, and they re-stock from the larger store in town although the staff were madly learning electronic stocktaking this time, so perhaps improvements are afoot.

Jolly Harbour is still a well priced, clean marina and worth the stay for the odd bit of boat maintenance or picking up crew conveniently. The staff are lovely, particularly William who seems to remember everyone.

Very well protected, 2013-03-03

Nice and easy docking, helpful staff and well kept marina. Was disappointed to hear there is not a bus route to Saint Johns.

Jolly Harbour - Mooring, 2013-03-02
Captain: , Washington, DC (840)

We grabbed a ball on the inside and use Jolly Harbour to check out and stage for crossing to St. Kitts. Customs and immigration is right there and has a dinghy dock. The grocery store is nice and well stocked. Watching the Super Bowl at the sports bar was fun. Overall good facilities, but not as picturesque as the advertisements would suggest.

very well protected, 2013-01-22
