Very Important: The Coast Guard has removed some channel markers and renumbered others. Old marker 16 is now marker 12.

Enter via the Double Bayou channel. At marker 12 stay very close to the red. Go dead slow, the "deep" water is very narrow. At marker 12 turn to port toward the water tower aiming just to the left of the tower, and the right-hand end of the boat shed, until into the bayou. Use marker 12 as a back range.

As you turn to port, look for the two white (privately placed) PVC poles between marker 12 and the bayou entrance. Make sure that you pass through the center of the two PVC poles. They were placed there to mark the deep water. However, these aids do get knocked down, so what you see when you get there may vary from one time to another.

It was reported June 2011 that several boats have run aground in the last 1/4 mile before marker 12 when approaching from offshore. Use the red markers as a back range. If you line them up, make sure you remain on that line or slightly north of it (i.e. outside the apparent channel on your chart plotter.) In this section, if you appear to be in the channel (using the offshore reds lined up as a reference), you are in danger of running aground. Having a good set of waypoints goes a long way towards a successful transit of the DB channel.

Reviews for Jobe Beason Park
Jobe Beason Park - good Overnight 2-12-2016, 2016-02-17
Captain: , League City (22)

Good docks well built, deep water, easy access. Power was available, however we didn't need any due to pleasant weather and breezes. The nearby restraunt and convenience store also provide for any secondary needs.

An escape from Kemah in your back yard, 2015-03-19
Captain: , Kemah,Texas (68)

It is a little skinny getting past the last channel marker but worth the trip. 5-6 ft. The slips are all new and the area is kept clean. As of 03/01/2015 payment for the slips is being handled by Chambers County not the convenience store, which is located within walking distance. The store has fuel and food. Located behind the store is a hotel and next door is a restaurant. Also in the opposite direction is Marker 17 a restaurant/bar. It is chock full of fresh seafood, hospitality and barrels of beer. If you desire some daytime fun you can walk to the Frascone Winery. Tours are Friday through Sunday. If you have a group Jim, the owner, will even come and pick you up. 504-914-3353. Get out on the water and enjoy Texas life.

Oak Island | Double Bayou, 2014-10-26

s/v Mystique can in for the first time 10/15/2014. The weather was unbelievable perfect, sailed the whopper all the way from Redfish. No issue at all until the very last red mark, super thin bumped around until we hit the main river channel. Tied up to the #6 slip sort of, seemed very thin. Dinghy up and down both arms and explored. Very interesting area, we'll be back.

Good Weekend Stop, 2014-09-26
Captain: , League City (194)

The city docks here are in good condition and present an excellent value at $35 a night (2013 pricing). The convenience store still manages the property for the city so once you select a dock the process is to walk to the store to pay. Expect to pay a hefty refundable deposit ($150) for a water adapter should you need or want to hook up. Every two slips share a shore power box so you should expect to need a fairly significant length of cable depending on how your own boat is oriented. Slips 1-10 have 220V 50A service and two household 120V 15A connectors. Slips 13-18 have a 120V 30A and two household 15A connectors. Slip 11 and 12 share a hybrid box with a 220V 50A, a 120V 30A and two 120V 15A connectors. There is moderate shoaling at the bulkhead such that it makes backing in a boat with a deep rudder risky. Approach the slips head in.

The area is rural and industrial but around the boat docks there is a nice park with BBQ facilities and covered tables. There is also a field with playground equipment that can be entertaining for kids or kids at heart. The nearby Hurricane restaurant is a greasy spoon type of joint but is casual and relaxing with a good selection of local foods. All in all this can be a fun day or overnight destination for recreational boaters. If you are planning a trip here from Trinity Bay, you should check the information on the Double Bayou Channel as not all vessels will be able to get in.

Job Beason Marina, 2011-11-22
Captain: , Parker, CO (301)

This is a great destination often booked in advance on weekends by local yacht clubs and cruising associations. We prefer to stay there on weekdays when it is very quiet and peaceful. The entry channel is tricky - hug the reds and watch your back range! Do not trust your chart plotter. Do not stray away from the reds! Do not try to enter or exit on low tides. Shower and toilet facilities at the park are not maintained though they are fairly new - too bad. Use restrooms at the convenience store. Docks are fixed with smooth wood sides - no cleats - lasso pilings. Nights are peaceful with little water traffic. During the day there is some commercial traffic and an occasional barge. The north fork is mostly industrial. The south fork is wild and makes for a nice dinghy ride for several miles. The two restaurants (Marker 17 and teh Hurricane) are average at best. The convenience store has the usual selection. Fuel is available at the dock near the convenience store.

Favor the Red, 2011-08-04
Captain: , San Leon, Texas (119)

When approaching, favor the red daymarkers, especially marker 16, stay very close to #16 as there is severe sand shoaling opposite of it. After you go by #16, there are locally placed white pvc pipe markers and water depth 6 to 7 ft. on in. I highly Recommend Marker 17 Restaurant for GREAT burgers and cold refreshments.

Nice facility, 2011-03-29
Captain: , Seabrook, TX (68)

Nice fixed piers in County Park. Walking distance to two bar/ restaraunts, convenience store and motel. Restroom/ shower facilities nasty/ unusable. There is a $25 charge for overnight payable at the convenience store. 50 amp power and fresh water is available. Fuel dock nearby.

Access can be tricky at lower tide levels. Watch your depth finder and proceed at idle from Marker 16 into bayou.
