Reviews for Jarrett Bay Boatworks Marina and Ship's Store
cheap fuel, 2017-06-10
Captain: , Easton MD (20)

Very accommodating easy fuel dock and pump out, current can be strong at times so pay attention. Awesome fuel prices and ship store.

perfect spot!, 2017-03-12

We've been coming here for years and we always make a point to stop here for fuel. We spend the nite and get Uber to come take us to town for supper. Great staff and first rate fuel dock!

Dishonest Service Manager Makes a Good Yard Look Bad, 2016-11-23
Captain: , US East Coast (1116)

I made an arrangement to have bottom job done on my boat while I%u2019ll be on my delivery trip south and passing through the area. I spoke with Keith (service manager) and agreed on a set dollar amount for hauling, power washing, blocking, sanding and painting two coats of bottom paint. I also asked if they could look at my rudder, to which he said they have all the required equipment and it won%u2019t be an issue.

Everything worked fine timewise. The boat was hauled, power washed and blocked on time. The next morning two staff members showed up with sticks and were about to start sanding by hand. I was puzzled, as based on my conversation with Keith prior to arriving, I was under the impression that they put up a tent and do a machine sanding. Even though my bottom was in OK condition, I still knew that it required machine sanding at least on the sides. I expressed my concern with the workers and they told me that Keith instructed them just to do a light sanding by hand so they can move on to painting quickly. This was the obvious sign to %u201Ccut corners%u201D.

After chasing Keith for almost an hour I expressed my opinion to which he replied %u201Cwhat%u2019s the difference sanding by machine or hands, sanding is sanding%u201D. I responded that by looking at the paint wore out on the sides, sanding by hand they%u2019ll either do a poor job by rushing it, or they%u2019ll be here sanding for two days. In short, we finally agreed to do machine sanding on the sides and pole sand the bottom. After finally having clear instructions, the two people assigned for the job were able to get on with the job.

During our preliminary agreement I asked for two coats of Pettit Ultra SR60. Keith suggested to do 2 coats on the bottom and 3 on the sides, which makes perfect sense. From this point on there were no questions about the bottom job and two folks assigned to the job were great and wanted to make sure that their job would be to my satisfaction.

One of the reasons I wanted to come to the shop is that they have all the tools to do anything that%u2019s required for the running gear. While the bottom was getting done I asked Keith about having someone to check my rudder situation. I could tell that he was just stalling. After asking him about 3-4 times I realized that he wasn%u2019t interested in getting this done, so I just let it go as there was no emergency.

The bottom got ready on time and the boat was in slings ready for splashing. In the meantime, Keith escorted me to the office to settle the bill. When we got to the office and was ready to pay, I got caught by a shocking surprise. The bill was roughly $1,000 over the price we had agreed on. Apparently, while giving me a quote, Keith implied (but never told me it would be extra) that the price he was quoting me was just for the yard work, which didn%u2019t include hauling, power washing and re-launching. After arguing for a while we were getting nowhere. He simply blamed me for misunderstanding his quote and told me there was nothing he could do to help me on this. I didn%u2019t see much of a choice, so I just gave them my credit card.

My experience shows a classic example how all the hard work performed by staff to please their customers is getting spoiled by the way the service manager is making the arrangement, misleading customers and ruining the experience. Due to my experience with the service manager and the billing situation, I will not be back for service here again.

Good Boatyard, 2016-05-11
Captain: , Fort Worth, TX (90)

Jarrett Bay Boatworks hauled out my Lagoon 380, installed a small epoxy fiberglass patch on my keel and applied antifouling paint to my entire bottom. The work was completed in the shortest time possible considering the rain and required dry times. The final price was a little less than estimated and the work quality was good. Everyone at Jarrett Bay was skilled, professional, helpful and friendly. I am glad I decided to have work done at Jarrett Bay Boatworks.

Good maintenance stop., 2016-04-20
Captain: , Norfolk (100)

Dropped in w/o appt. on Sun. Wanted some sanitary hoses replaced. They got on it Mon morning and did good work changing them (nasty job). Keith was very fair on the charges and added $40/night for the dockage. Would recommend it for maint/repairs, but make appt.

Second verse, same as the first!, 2016-04-17
Captain: , Fort Myers, FL (722)

We have now stopped twice at Jarrett Bay Boatyard. Keith Tosto, the yard manager, handled our projects both times. Though he had little notice from us on either occasion, he had technicians on board quickly (in a matter of minutes) to troubleshoot and then discuss repair options. Technicians as well as Keith communicated proactively and the work was done on time, on budget, and to a high standard. They can haul just about any size vessel. You are five miles north of downtown Beaufort; you need a rental car to go into town. Between Morehead City and Beaufort, you can find whatever you need. Pay attention as you enter the marina; the current from Adams Creek will affect your approach. Don't be afraid to ask for help with docking. Jarrett Bay is improving facilities for boaters (new bath/shower rooms, expanded ship's store, adding a lounge) but this is still mainly a well-outfitted boatyard - a place to get things done.

Haulout during November, 2016-01-31
Captain: , Oriental, NC (10)

They work on all kinds of boats, from 30' sailboats to 100'+ trawlers, ferries, tugs, etc. It was very busy when I was there, but while the big guys got in and out, my 36 footer seemed to be at the bottom of the list for scheduling work. What shoud have been 1 week soon became 4.

Rude Unprofessional Service Manager, 2015-11-08
Captain: , Huntsville (10)

After many phone calls over the last three weeks to arrange a haul out and dry storge we were met at the dock by the most rude ignorant unprofessional person I have encountered in boating to date. My boat is a steel project trawler, definately not a pretty mega yacht. He straight out said he did not want my boat on the property because I was likely to not pay my bill and abandone the boat??? We eventually got hauled and pressure washed except for where the travel lift straps were, it still needs finishing. My wife also called to ask about his rude attitude and was told if she didnt like it she could get the boat out of thier yard. All this despite paying in full ahead and having a credit card on file. Totaly not impressed but I will wait and see how this plays out

Boat Yard, 2015-10-18
Captain: , Racine, WI (525)

Definitely a boat yard and not a marina. We stopped over to replace house batteries and they were able to handle the task. Price was reasonable. Had a couple of hickups with "Murphy's Law" but the job was completed in a couple of days.

Good service,cheap fuel & ok water, 2015-10-16
Captain: , Forked River, NJ (604)

Stopped for diesel on my way south. Best price since Portsmouth VA. Fuel dock has rubber strips on piling so no fenders needed. Dock attendant was knowable, helpful & friendly. Gas without ethanol!!!!!. He warned us that the water was from a well and had a bit of a NC swamp taste. My wife tasted it & declared it Ok. We have a charcoal filter on our drinking water so we didn't notice any issue with the water.
I will stop again on my way north.

Amazing Professional Boat yard, 2015-07-15
Captain: , Varies - Home in Charlotte, NC (202)

I have been into a lot of boat yards in my 16 years of cruising but this is by far the best. On the 173 acre site there are numerous different companies that can serve you if the Jarrett Bay cannot. They have three travel lifts that can accomodate small boats to megayachts. I can in with a fairly small problem with my shafts on the way to the Chesapeake. They had me out of the water by 8:00 am and had a mechanic immediately on the boat to see what was needed in parts. By 9:00 the next morning the parts were there and the mechanic worked on the boat all day until it was done and had me back in the water the next morning. I was extremely impress with the knowledge and intelligence of the mechanic that worked on my boat, Ely. Their prices are reasonable and with all of the machine shops they can hande anything including all hull work. They actually build sportfishing boats here on site. I will probably stop by here in the winter to get my hull painted.

Can't be beat.....(update 4.2015), 2015-04-04
Captain: , Southport, NC (916)

Jarrett Bay Boatworks not only makes the finest custom sportfishing yachts around but you will not find a more full service yard. Options from do it yourself to turnkey service. I've never received anything but top notch service from Jarrett Bay. They also have a great shipstore with cool apparel and nice restroom facilities.

....on a trip to Beaufort this week the seal on our V-drive failed and began to leak steadily. Jarrett Bay techs dropped everything to help us after hours, ultimately needing to put the boat in the sling to complete the repairs. Great people, knowledgeable and professional.

Great place to haul out /summer storage, 2014-03-05

You can get anything you want in this area, DIY or have it done, its all here

On time and under budget!, 2014-01-25
Captain: , Jacksonville (190)

All work was done on time and under budget, even with additional work. Boat was handled professionally, and Tim really makes you feel welcome and goes the extra mile! If I needed work done in that neck of the woods again, I would
Not hesitate to use them!

Boat Yard can Take Care of Any Need, 2013-12-16
Captain: , Crockett (610)

We were hauled out here for about six months and had a lot of warrenty work completed. They have contractors for anytype of service you need.

Always nice with southern hospitatlity, though their scheduling is poor, thier prices seem high and craftsmanship is acceptable.

They were kind enough to hang out at the dock for a few days as we moved aboard from a u-Haul.

Anything you need!, 2013-12-11
Captain: , Lewes, DE (178)

Jarrett Bay is a machanics playland! My autopilot ripped from it's original mounting location and I needed some specialty stainless bolts to remount it. Not having autopilot is tiring! Rich at Jarrett Bay had perfectly organized and maintained hardware bins that streched for 30 feet down the wall. We took on some diesel, not a big profit margin when dealing with a sailboat, but the Admiral more than made up for it at the ship's store. The grounds are so expansive that Jim at the gas dock lends you his truck to go over to the parts building. Jim's truck is a whole other story! Stop in, every one is wonderful, and you'll probably find what you need.

BAD water but good fuel, 2013-07-06
Captain: , Port Angeles Washington (272)

We took on water here and in 2 days we had a sulfur smell that we are still trying to rid the boat of weeks later.

Perfect place right before Morehead City, 2013-04-01
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (520)

Easy approach and tie-up to the face dock. Current not a problem. Everyone had gone home but a phone call to let them know we were tying up was met with a welcome. As we only had access to power and water (due to the lateness of our arrival) we couldn't attest to showers or other facilities.

Good overnight stop, 2013-03-13
Captain: , St. Thomas, USVI (624)

We couldn%u2019t make it all the way to Beaufort, NC or Morehead City, NC so we decided to stop off in the Adams Cut at Jarrett Boat Works (1/2/13). No frills here as it is a working boat yard, but their face docks right on the waterway make for a convenient stop. They do have showers, clean restrooms, ship%u2019s store, but not walking distance to anything. We came in late and left early so it was perfect for our needs. Watch out for currents here when docking. We especially enjoyed the dolphin feeding up and down the cut into the dark hours.

Quick anf Very Friendly Fuel Stop, 2013-02-24
Captain: , Ft Lauderdale FL (271)

Loaded 400 gals on our way south in Dec 2012. Very friendly service. Convenient stop on the ICW before Morehead city. Though it was our very first time in, they treated us like an old time customer.

Great honest place to get work done, 2013-01-09
Captain: , Cuckoo, Va. (30)

I was having what I thought was a prop cavitation problem. I called Jarrett(Jeff) the night before and was told to come on in when I pass by in the A.M. they would check it out and make a recommendation. When I arrived they were waiting for me the yard manager and their sailboat expert. They asked questions then came onboard we did some testing and they gave me an hosest recommendation. No problem and no charge for there time and trouble. I was back out and on my way in less then an hour. Wow! If I ever need work done while in this area I would not hesitate to have Jarrett do the work.

Great Work, 2012-08-09
Captain: , Fort Myers Florida (190)

Had a vexing vibration problem fixed and some complicated woodworking done. Great Mechanics, nice people. It is in the middle of nowhere, but the staff ran us into town for groceries twice - cabs back are no problem, either.

Extra effort to help us, 2012-02-02
Captain: , New Bern, NC (466)

We came in for fuel and water, but our hose was too short. They made up a new hose that would reach our boat. Now that is not a big deal, but considering that it was freezing out that day and we only got 12 gal of fuel, it was pretty friendly of them. I'll stop again just to show appreciation.

Jarrett Bay Dock and haul out, 2011-10-11
Captain: , PooleUK (973)

We secured alongside their pontoon (floating dock) for a week or so whilst waiting to be lifted (My request), the staff are knowlegable, courtious and experienced. The only downsides are;
1) On the pontoons the wash from passing boats, not even slowing down whilst I was in the tender polishing the hull, drove me to distraction.
2) Dust and grit from the yard will (if the wind is From the North or North East) cover your vessel in no time.
Good WIFI, Questionable shore power (esp at $50 for a 50 Amp supply for a week) and iffy fresh water quality.
In all a worthy location for a haul out and work.

Jarrett Bay is top notch, 2011-05-21
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (10)

I bought a boat that had been stored at Jarrett Bay for a number of years. The boat yard staff could not have been more accomodating and easy to work with during repair and relaunch of my boat. They have a full range of repair services which are reasonably priced. At one point while I was working on my boat a 31 ft. sailboat pulled in with a leaking through hull fitting threatening to sink the vessel. The boat yard dropped everything else, immediately pulled him out and repaired the faulty valve while offering the skipper and his wife coffee while they waited. Only charged him half price because they repaired the boat in the sling and didn't have to block it up. Talk about great service!

Great Boatyard , 2009-07-03
Captain: , Daytona Beach,FL (172)

We have had work done at Jarrett Bay Boatworks at least four different times. They always get the work finished on time and under the estimate. We have used many yards but Jarrett Bay is by far the best. They have experienced honest people who care about the quality of work.

A harbor of refuge, 2009-05-26
Captain: , Belhaven, NC (363)

We were caught in a violent thunderstorm in Core Creek, and Jarrett Bay answered our call and instantly agreed to give us a place on their bulkhead. Very helpful at that moment!

Repair yard - Good service, 2008-09-24
Captain: , Key Biscayne FL (3103)

Did not use them but they seem to be a first rate repair yard. CA dealer on site.
