Great place, 2016-03-31
Captain: , North Palm Beach, FL (490)

We stayed here 3/30/16 for a night and what a nice place! Joe and his wife are down to earth, hard working on their farm and could not do enough for us. They even had a dozen farm fresh eggs available, so tonight, we are going to have an egg bake!
Face dock was new and in good condition and the price was right, but the best was the tour of their farm, especially the goats! One of the young ones kept following us around looking for attention and Joe had all he could do to put him back in the pen. They had cattle, hogs (one very pregnant), chickens, goats, a turkey and rabbit.
We will definitely be back on our annual trips to and from the west coast.

southern hospitality! Hard working young folks, 2015-11-05
Captain: , Cleveland, OH (140)

These folks were so welcoming. Two miles from the Franklin lock makes it a great position to head toward lake okeechobee. They helped us arrange for a cab to bring friends to the yacht Basin in Ft Meyers so they could cruise with us for the afternoon. An added plus was fresh eggs from they're hen house. Docks are sound and well maintained. Cute little gazebo on fuel dock to sit and watch the passing boats. Rib city very close and enjoyed the meal very much. Didn't check out the showers.

Great stop, 2015-10-11

I stop evertime I can. Great people there, will go out of there way to help. Fuel prices always competitive with yacht basin and no hassles. Easy in easy out. love it thanks guys.

Great folks, 2015-08-05
Captain: , Bradenton, FL (90)

Joe and his wife went out of their way to help us. After driving us to a local restaurant, they hurried back when they discovered our boat had a problem. Once the problem was resolved, they returned us to the restaurant and later picked us up again. Please support these gracious hard-working people.

Stopped for fuel on a whim. Wow!, 2015-08-01
Captain: , High Springs, FL (848)

I thought that the lock restrictions were in effect so I stopped for fuel on a whime thinking I would have to wait on the lock. As I pulled up it started to rain really hard but the folks there met me and stood in the rain with me while helping me tie up.

The fuel price was great and it was a very convenient place to stop. We didn't overnight but those below commented on what to expect. These owners were down to earth and made it a pleasure even in the rain.

Great marina to overnight, 2015-05-26
Captain: , McDonough, Georgia (104)

As previous posts say, Joe, the owner, does everything possible to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Would have given a 5, if not for river wake- which really only exists when the lock is open.

great great place to overnite or get groceries or anything else you need on the water., 2015-03-05
Captain: , jacksonville, florida (10)

the young couple that run this marina are the nicest, friendliest, greatest people i have run into on the water or anywhere else for that matter. we followed a 125 footer to their dock and docked behind the big vessel for two days. they took us to the grocery sore for free, out to dinner, fuel prices are as good or better than anywhere else . Joe and Shana Justice run the marina and will treat you like royalty. This is our second time there and even with the 125' ahead of us we had plenty of dock space left and it is a deep water dock. You will NOT go wrong with this marina.

The real Florida, 2015-02-04
Captain: , United States (3192)

We spent a night here on an eastbound crossing of the Okeechobee, which made for a nice day to Clewiston the following day. Managers Joe and Shanna were very accommodating, offering to drive us to town if we needed it, and giving us a dozen fresh eggs from their flock of chickens. Docks were adequate for our 52' steel trawler with 6' draft and the 62' Nordhavn traveling with us, but we found the very northermost end of the dock too shallow (we touched bottom when wakes rolled through) so we lined about 20' further south. Our friends walked to the Winn-Dixie supermarket about a mile away. Nice stop. Few amenities means I can't give a fifth star, but the very fair price reflects that.

Dangerous wakes from river traffic, 2015-01-28
Captain: , Fells Point, MD (30)

Stayed here in December after reading reviews. This was our last night of an eight week ICW trip to Cape Coral from Baltimore. we were on the fuel dock which was the only dock for transients. We didn't realize there were pilings to tie us off the dock until we were already secure. We had all our fenders deployed on the pilings and thought we would be fine. This was a big mistake. The pilings are attached to the dock which is attached to the sea wall. No give at all. We were awakened at 7am by the boat knocking against a piling from a wake. The high tide had allowed the fenders to slip down too low on the hull. While we were adjusting them a sports fisherman roared down river giving a wake that crashed over the dock, despite no wake signs. Our 34ft sailboat slammed against the pilings hard enough to crack the rub rail and the fiberglass deck right inside the rail. The wake was so big it lifted the boat above the fenders.
I don't think the dock is safe because of irresponsible motor boaters.

very friendly spot, 2015-01-14
Captain: , Buzzards Bay (391)

Had planed for Fort Myers till the Coast Guard aircraft started broadcasting storm warning. Used Active Captain found this small spot. Not much here but a nice fixed dock with water and power and big friendly service. We were given a ride the the local Rib spot. Good food and fifty cent draft beer. A nice walk back to the boat worked off the big portions . (Joe gave us his cell phone number for a ride).

stayed her for acouple of days the fist of june 2014, 2014-09-07

Southern Hospitality, 2014-04-29
Captain: , Jacksonville, Fl (30)

Calusa Jacks marina was our refuge when we missed the last lock opening of the night on our 500 mile maden voyage home. We radioed them @ 7pm and they happly made a spot 4 us on the fuel dock for the night. After fuleing up an getitng settled Joe invited us in for grilled chicken (complete with his home made sauce). With some of the other sailors. He aslo introduced us to some other new crusers stayingh there with whome stay in contact to this day. Thank you to Joe and His wife for there southern hospitality and killer Hot sauce! They are steady improving this facility we can't wait to visit and see how things are coming allong.

Nice stop on the waterways, 2014-04-09

Kadey Krogen 48' "Gratitude"

Headed back East in the middle of a terrible rain and wind storm. Called Calusa Jack's and pulled up to their fuel dock. Joe and Richard were waiting for un on the dock. Nice, friendly people. They are the new managers of this small marina and are really trying hard to improve things and make it better. Joe offered to drive us to the grocery store, or anywhere else we needed to go to. Bathrooms are nothing fancy, and could use a face lift, but are clean. Good WiFi, good power, but the friendliness of the folks here is what makes this stop welcoming.
Will stop her again in the future.

Friendly Spot, 2014-03-17
Captain: , Macatawa Michigan (1144)

On our second trip through Okeechobee waterway we were looking for different stops. We pulled in here because it was a reasonable distance from our prior anchorage at Useppa Island. It was a nice find. We draw 5 feet so we stayed on the fuel dock paralleling the river. Depth 8 ft. Even though we arrived about 2:30 PM they were happy to have us on their fuel dock for the night. There was another boat about 40 ft also staying at the fuel dock.

The owners were very nice.
Once we got settled they offered to drive us to the grocery store. We didn't need provisioning but did ask for ice. Turns out the marina had just sold the last bag so Joe got in his car, drove to the store and brought us a 20lb bag. Nice people.

They are still working to update the facility. The bathrooms and shower are nothing spectacular but perfectly adequate and I suspect they will be further upgraded.

Let's face it--the Okeechobee Waterway is pretty isolated stretch of water running through agricultural land with a few small "villages" along the way. In that context Calusa Jack's is a nice place to stop. The owners live at the marina and are trying hard to build their business; they are friendly helpful people; and they are grateful for the cruisers who stop. We will be here again on our return trip in the fall.

Great replacement for Rialto, 2013-12-13
Captain: , Tampa (190)

We were sorry about the closing of Rialto but very happy to find the new staff at Calusa Jack's. It's a great alternative to staying in Fort Myers..

Charming & great value, 2013-08-27
Captain: , Amarillo, TX (20)

We've been living aboard our sailboat here for a couple of weeks and it's been a wonderful experience. The new management is very friendly, provides above-and-beyond service, and is hard at work every day making improvements to the marina. Clean bathrooms, a recently rennovated shower, a nice garden, and the peaceful river view are just some of the things we've been appreciating.

Captain: , Calusa Jacks Marina (68)

The new management is doing a LOT of work to the place. Friendly people trying hard to bring it back to a lively and active marina where everyone wants to stop while out on the river.

Narrow approach., 2012-10-08
Captain: , Tampa, Florida (243)

The approach to the docks is via an extremely narrow channel. Fuel dock on the river, though, with easy access. Always wonder why a commercial business would fly a big confederate flag out front.

fuel stop away from city congestion, 2010-04-04
Captain: , Lakeside, Montana (442)

easy access. young kids did the fuel up assistance and did well. river traffic doesn't slow down enough so wakes will toss the boat against the exposed dock. competative fuel prices for diesel when we stopped.
