Reviews for Jacare Yacht Village
from nice to nightmare, 2016-06-09

When we arrived in Jacare, we were very well received by Marina Village. This marina is THE location for leaving your boat and has all the necessary facilities.
We wanted to haul our boat out of the water but that was impossible at this marina because of the system used and because we are a twinkeel.
During our stay we naturally got in contact with Brian Stevens, and as we are member of the CA and reading that Brian is the HLR for the region. But as a member we did not notice any difference in approach from mr Stevens. I think he is not very aware of his role as an HLR. He even did not reacted when I said that I was member of the CA .
After some time 2 months we decided to get our boat out at Brian, because we noticed water in the saildrive and did not wanted to wait till Salvador to solve this problem.
As we had seen that Brian was very well aware of Coppercoat, we decided to get this treatment instead of the classic antifouling. The job was done in one week and proud as we were we left Jacare to Salvador de Bahia to continue our trip south.
In Salvador the Bahia arrived we noticed that all the Coppercoat was coming of the hull, disappointed we contacted Brian to have some more explanation and help on what to do....
But then the situation became worse and worse, Brian Stevens denied all responsability, because I had worked with sub contractors, if I proposed a solution he does not want to talk anymore ! So here I 'm standing with my membership in front of THE person who should help me and who leaves me with my problems and don't want to take any responsability.
The advice to cruisers I want to give is, even with a so said organization behind you and even with working via an HLR be carefull.

Expensive but adequate, 2012-01-20

Marina has all the basics but is exceptionally expensive for this part of Brazil.

The marina owner is very helpful and has contact to provide things such as re-galvanization for anchor chain - however everything comes with a price.

There is little room for negotiation on rates etc.

Other than price I have no complaints.

There is not much choice except further up riveer and the current moves swiftly enough that leaving a boat on anchor is a bit dodgy - i watched several boats drift past while we were there...
