Reviews for Ingram Bay Marina
Another Great Stop, and just off the Bay!, 2017-09-21
Captain: , Virginia Beach (40)

This is a super easy in and out from the Bay. We came in for one night, and liked it so much that we stayed for two! CAPT Billy is fantastic and runs a top notch operation. He met us at the fuel dock for a pump-out, and assisted us into our slip. The atmosphere is very laid back which made for a very relaxing stay in a remote area. CAPT Billy loaned us his truck for a run into Kilmarnock for provisions (roughly 11 miles), and just asked that we replenish the fuel we used. The on-site gazebo was a great place to sit and relax off the boat. We will definitely be back.

Captain Billy and his wife Mary can't do enough to make the visitor feel welcome. Loaner car is a huge benefit. Can't recommend this marina highly enough! Shame if you miss it.

Nice Surprise, 2017-06-22
Captain: , Chesapeake, VA (110)

Agree with the positive comments below. We normally anchor when in the area but decided to try the marina. What a pleasant surprise. Extremely helpful and friendly staff. Great location.

Great Stop Over!, 2017-06-11

Billy, the owner was extremely helpful and friendly. We were concerned about entering as we draw 6 ft. He guided us in and assured us that even if we hit bottom, his trawler would bring us in! No need, as we were fine the whole way. Clean restrooms, showers and laundry. Loaner car to a charming village with shopping. We will return!

Another Great Visit !, 2017-06-11
Captain: , Venice, FL (170)

This Marina is a hidden, beautiful stop along the Chesapeake, and the best part is the genuine hospitality by Mary and Billy, the owners. Can't say enough...they'll help you out any way they can and make your stay memorable.

Marina with a hometown feel!, 2017-06-08
Captain: , Cape Coral (10)

Great hospitality, the marina and docks are well protected and very tranquil. Geese fly over our head while we were walking along the docks. Bathroom and showers are clean plus a honor system washer machine, entrance to the marina is a little tricky, markers are hard to find, 10 foot in channel and 6.5 foot in the entrance. Daytime arrival recommended, Bill is a great guy and is very positive and hospitable. Recommended layover for anyone coming up or down the bay. Five stars!

Great place!, 2017-05-22
Captain: , Chattanooga (70)

This was such a nice surprise! Great spot - beautiful! Capt Bill was very accomodating - pumpout was fast - used truck for provisioning in town. Bathrooms were clean and the wifi worked great!

Great little hideaway, so peaceful. Capt. Bill and Mary were very accommodating. Super clean restrooms and a courtesy truck to run for supplies. My fav Marina for restfulness and tranquility

Friendly and accommodating, 2017-05-09
Captain: , Maple Shade NJ (612)

We stopped in just for fuel and a pump out and they were great. The pumpout may the best we've seen on the entire east coast. The depths are as previously reported. It's very well protected. We went over to Mill Creek anchorage for nice quiet night. If we were looking for a slip we would have stayed here.

Home away from Home, 2017-05-09
Captain: , Gulf Breeze, FL (70)

Ingram Bay Marina is a wonderful place to ride out a couple of bad weather days. It is very well protected and you won't find a more accomodating group of people than here! We had a boat emergency and had to pull in for a couple days, Billy bent over backwards to make our stay welcome and comfortable!!!

Nice spot on the Northern Neck, 2017-04-12
Captain: , Annapolis (10)

We were looking for a marina about halfway from Portdmouth to Annapolis. So glad we found Captain Billy's Ingram Bay Marina. The marina is very tidy, the prices are very fair, and the pumpout works. Its a very easy access from the bay with plenty of water for our 36 foot trawler. Billy even loaned us the work truck to go into town to pick up a prescription. I'll stay there again when I'm in the area.

Great Dock Master and Good People, 2017-01-11
Captain: , Newport News (34)

Captain Billy and his wife Mary are great folks. The marina is very tidy and Billy makes sure that non-ethanol fuel is available for customers. The facilities include two cozy and comfortable rental cabins right across from the docks. Billy has a truck that he lets customers use for getting to town for food and supplies. We tied up there one night, and he met us at the dock the next morning as we were casting off and gave us hot coffee. We got underway, but the weather was bad and we had to come back in; that night we got snowed in. Billy gave us discounts on the cabins and made sure we had enough food and supplies to be safe and warm. He and Mary actually invited us into their home one night and shared their dinner with us. Our good fortune in finding Billy and Mary was just phenomenal and I highly recommend them to any one who is looking for a place to tie up in the Northern Neck.

Great Place!, 2016-12-11
Captain: , Curtis Bay, MD (70)

We got a very late start this year, and stopped on our way south in early December. The harbor is very protected, the showers are hot and there was plenty of room for our dog to run around. He loved it! But the real treasure here is the people -- Capt. Billy and Mary were friendly, helpful and a full of good information. We were able to use the courtesy car to stock up on groceries at Walmart (and thanks for the restaurant suggestion, George), and the laundry facilities were welcome. When weather kept us from leaving, Captain Billy let us stay free one night!

We opened an Active Captain account just to give the Ingram Bay Marina a good review! Thanks for the suggestion, Billy -- there's a ton of great information here!

A Very Special Spot, 2016-11-20
Captain: , North Palm Beach, FL (490)

We stayed here in the spring and enjoyed Ingram Bay so much we came back last week on our way south.

The harbor is very protected and docks good.

Billy and Mary are fantastic and very laid back. Billy even picked up some fuel additive for me while in town and the fuel price was very competitive.

We look forward to coming back here again and hopefully have time to go fishing with Captain Billy!

Quiet Small Marina, 2016-09-18
Captain: , Colorado (411)

We are a 38' catamaran and most of the marina is setup for covered slips and a few monohulls. After a little confusion on directions, we ended up tying up to the fuel dock for the night (there is one other face dock that can be used for larger boats). Coming into the marina, we saw a minimum of 5 foot of water (sensor on each hull with 21' beam centered over mid channel). More water once inside.

Marina has fixed docks in generally good repair. WiFi was good (a welcome surprise these days) and the marina grounds are quiet and scenic. Lots of grassy areas for our dogs to run so I'm sure they really enjoyed this stop.

As others have mentioned, Billy is the jewel here. A very friendly and laid back host. Let us use his work truck to go into town for a little reprovisioning (town is about 13 miles away). Real southern hospitality.

Bath house was a short walk from the docks and was basic but clean. They have laundry on an honor system basis, but we didn't use it.

A nice stop.

Great spot, 2016-08-20
Captain: , Carolina Beach, NC (391)

Previous review says it all. Easy in/out, great protection. And Capt'n Billy a gracious host. We're a catamaran, but he did have a sopt for us. Willgo back!

Peaceful, comfortable marina, 2016-05-18
Captain: , St Charles, MO (30)

This marina is a gem on the Chesapeake. Well marked entrance with plenty of water. Once inside, it is totally protected. Good fuel prices, this pet friendly marina has plenty of room for walking and outdoor activities. It's a distance from town, but they will be happy to loan you a vehicle to resupply. Did I mention great wifi?

Most importantly, Billy, the owner can't do enough to help you. We arrived around 3 pm. I mentioned to him that I wanted to get my transmission fluid changed. He drove to the auto parts store, and bought the ATF needed for my transmissions. After dinner, he came back to the boat and did the change for us that night. He is very responsive to his customer's needs, and is good natured and friendly as well.

We will use Ingram Bay again!

Unexpected Gem, 2016-04-22
Captain: , Cape May, NJ (130)

If you are heade uo or down the Chesapeake in your travels, this is the spot. It is difficult to visualize until you get closer in. The channel is marked well and we draw 4.5 and had plenty of water going in and departing. This marina is south of the Reedville area. It is in a little hidden bay with good protection. They don't answer on 16 regularly but you can call on the phone and leave a message and Billy will call you back or if you just show up, he will find you a spot.. The place is not fancy but is in a beautiful setting, docks were in good shape. If you are looking for a good spot to duck in for a night or two, you won't be sorry. The restrooms are older and there is laundry availabe as well as pump out and fuel. This is a small business marina and the owner could not be any nicer. The spot is secure and there is plenty of room to walk around on the property. They also offer a courtesy car and are pet friendly. I would definitely use this marina again over some of the big box marinas. Prices here are great. Discount for Boat US and cash.

A great place for loopers, 2016-04-22
Captain: , Stockton Springs Maine (81)

Wanted to try someplace other then Reedville at an easy day trip from Portsmouth so we came here. Love it. Well protected, easy entrance, clean, friendly and they have a courtesy car. What more can you ask for. Oh yes, good prices on fuel, dockage and a working pump out. Was planning one night, instead took advantage of three nights for the price of two. Will be back.

Pleasent Surprise, 2015-12-22
Captain: , Orwell (10)

Let us start by saying this is the best Marina on the East Coast that we have stayed at. Its a clean, pet friendly, quiet, and very affordable Marina. They offer boat US discount as well.
On our personnal experience due to electrical issues we found ourselves way behind schedule and looking for a close by Marina in the dark off the Potomic River, we were fortunate enough to have Billy on the radio talking us in and awaiting us with flashlight on the docks.
We decided to stay 5 days there and in that time Bill and Mary loaned us a vehicle to resupply, had laundry facilities, gave us great advice and lots of friendly company. On our last night we were treated to a fish Fry/Bon fire caught by Captain Bill himself! It was a awesome experience which will be a stop on our agenda with or without our boat everytime.. Thanks again Bill and Mary

Practices the honor system., 2015-12-11
Captain: , Cambridge, MD (40)

My wife and I came in to this small owner-operated marina after spending Thanksgiving Day on the Bay. A small, modest, not terribly fancy place; and since it was the holiday, we were not surprised to find nobody around. So we took an open slip next to the fuel dock and spent the night.

When we stepped off our boat the next morning to head to the showers, we found the marina owner, Billy, at work on the boat in the slip next to us. He welcomed us warmly; and, in order to keep from having to make change on the day after Thanksgiving, offered to round down our slip fee for the night. (With plenty of singles on hand, we didn't need to take him up on it.)

When we went to the showers, we found the laundry room next to them. Again, small, modest, and a little worn. But instead of coin slots on the two machines, therte was a separate money box with the cost of the machines posted and the tacit assumption that the folks using them would do the right thing--the honor system at work.

We love a place like this. On the Chesapeake, we find marinas that are big and small, rough and smooth, well-groomed and well-worn. For us, it's almost always the people that make the difference, and we would gladly stay at Billy's Ingram Bay Marina again.

Protected location with great customer service, 2015-10-20
Captain: , Severna Park, MD (40)

Stopped while heading down the bay after a cold run from Solomons Island. Found Captain Billy at the fuel dock, and found him remarkably accommodating to our needs and comfort.

Had no trouble with depths as we came in. Had 6'6" depth minimum in the channel. Once through the inlet, found a quiet harbor, well protected. A great hurricane hole. Bath facilities are basic and clean, docks are excellent, service is exceptional. Liked the location enough to spend an extra day to catch up with boat chores. Wonderful location to walk. Definitely will return.

Peaceful stop with people who care, 2015-10-12
Captain: , Bay City, MI (730)

Small marina with a winding path in, but is no problem. Had the slip next to the gas dock, which worked great for our dogs. Do tell them you have dogs, so you are in the right spot. Women's bath not great, so cannot give a 5. Extremely accommodating and nice people. Offer discounts. I would go there again in a heartbeat, if you are looking for a peaceful spot. They offered a courtesy car, but we didn't need it.

Wonderful Experience, 2015-10-03
Captain: , South Riding, VA (55)

Last minute decision to get off the bay on a rough evening just prior to Joaquin possibly hitting. Owner could not have been nicer or more competent. Gve us a truck to go into town for dinner, helped us with extra lines to get ready for possible hurricane, and constantly assured me that he would take care of everything while we went home during the storm. Will update this when we return next week. Thanks Billy.

Great Stop, 2015-10-01
Captain: , Virginia Beach, VA (10)

This is an excellent stop in a well protected creek. Service by the owner, Capt. Billy, was warm and professional. Fuel and slip charges were very reasonable and we enjoyed our one night stay.

Great place to stop heading down the Bay., 2015-09-23
Captain: , Vandemere, NC (10)

Stayed here going north, made a point of staying here going south. Planned to stay 1 night, stayed 2 due to weather. Very comfortable spot, with very nice helpful folks running it.

A Refreshing Change, 2015-09-08
Captain: , Barnegat Light, NJ (10)

Stopped here on my way to Florida on Labor Day. After experiencing "Holiday Rates" all the way down the Chesapeake, I met Billy at the fuel dock and he set me up proper.. Not only did he give me my Boat US discount off his usual low rate, but he applied that to the fuel as well! Then as if that wasn't enough he lent me his truck to go to WallMart to reprovision! Five Stars to Ingram Bay for bringing hospitality back to the bay!

excellent marina, 2015-09-06
Captain: , Elizabeth City, NC (60)

we stopped in Ingram during a trip from Maryland on our way to North Carolina. The marina is excellent, the staff there is awesome and super helpful they took extremely good care of us and took every step to make our stay enjoyable. The prices are great the bathhouse is super clean and the fuel prices are great too. we'd stay again in a heartbeat.

Beautifully Secure, 2015-08-28
Captain: , Fairhaven (53)

Well marked and easily entered, Ingram Bay Marina is a snug haven. Mary and Captain Billy are supurb hosts and will facilitate any needs one may have including Mary leaping into the water to save our clumsy cat!

Beyond the customary facilities and services, there are two attractive cabins for rent. Visit them if only to experience a bungalow brimming with space-saving ideas. There are many vineyards in the area that offer tastings; Captain Billy can direct you to a few nearby. The marina's meadows become an awe inspiring field of fireflies at dusk.

Mary and Captain Billy's professionalism and kindness, as well as the sheltered location near the ICW route makes this marina a valuable asset to the curiser.

Everything you could want. Or not., 2015-07-25
Captain: , Arizona (216)

It is all about perspective. If you want the city, the night life, tiki bars, etc., you might want to go somewhere else. If you want beautiful grounds, tall trees, kayaks, a gazebo overlooking the water, and great hospitality, this is the place. We were here on July 21 and a storm blew through with 35kt winds. We were perfectly secure and had a great view. The only (minor) thing I would change about this place would be the laundry. The fact that they had one was very nice. I would add a clean table to fold the clothes on. If that is the biggest complaint I have, life is good. And so is this marina!

Very Protected with great people, 2015-07-21
Captain: , Bedford, NH (775)

We arrived at this marina on June 24 only a couple of hours into our trip for the day due to rough seas. Billy was very accommmodating. The forecast showed no improvement for the next 5 days so we decided to leave the boat for a couple of weeks and go home. We were put in a covered slip which was great. They really go out of their way to help, even offering to take us to the airport which is an hour and half away! We made our own arrangements but the offer was appreciated.

Couldn't be nicer, 2015-06-29
Captain: , St. Thomas, USVI (160)

We took on fuel here. The own was wonderful, offering to let our puppy run around, and asking if we needed anything else. He was more than happy to do what he could. The fuel prices were the best we've found.

Great Spot with Great Hos/Habormaster, 2015-06-03
Captain: , Norfolk, VA (10)

6/12/2015. We stopped on for the night. Conveniently located about half way from Norfolk to Annapolis. The apporach looks scarier than it is. We have a 55 foot motor yacht, 5 foot draft. Stay in the middle. At low tide bout 8-9 feet in the channel, 6-7 at the dock.
Billy Pipkin (Owner/Harbormaster/Charter operator/Genuinely Nice Guy!) was wonderful. Great help docking.
I am not a fisherman but carry a few poles. He set my up rig to hopefully will allow me to catch fish. He even drew me a diagram of how to set up. Truly passionate!
I tried the next day with no luck but I will keep trying.
Had dinner at Horn Harbor House. About 20 minutes away. Excellent.

Great stop and wonderful hospitality, 2015-05-16
Captain: , Dutch Harbor, RI (411)

We needed fuel and a place to stop before continuing up the bay. It was not that difficult getting in and the bottom is soft mud. We draw 5' and had no problems mid or low tide. Capt Billy and his wife Mary are exceptional marina hosts. They loaned us a vehicle to go into town and were very helpful providing local knowledge about the bay and surrounding area. We liked it so much we stayed for 3 nights! Showers were clean, washer and dryer worked well and he had picnic areas with a grill. Very peaceful spot and scenic.

quiet and nice, 2015-03-25
Captain: , Haddam, CT (270)

Cd-25, 3 ft draft.
Stayed over on 21 March 2015. I stopped for fuel but stayed the night, showers, laundry. Measured 7.5 ft at midtide in the entrance jetty. No tide and no waves

Great marina and staff, 2015-03-22
Captain: , of Sun and Moon traveling the world (60)

During our 8 days cruise on the Chesapeake in July 2014 we lost an anchor while trying to pull our boat from the spot where we went aground. We called Ingram Marina to see if they could help. Captain Billy said no problem come on in. So we did. Great marina well protected and very well maintained. Captain Billy provided a new anchor with rode and everything at a very reasonable price. He was also very helpfull and gave us tones of information about the area and ou next destination Tangier Island.

Many thanks from Jean & Nancy the people with flotting chairs for dinghy.

Outstanding Customer Focus, Service, Docks and Fuel, 2014-12-07
Captain: , Penetanguishene (125)

Very nice, clean easy to access small marina. quiet and very safe. Fixed docks and pilings means you can put 8 lines on a boat in a blow. Super spot to visit for fuel. Courtesy vehicle available for provisioning. Best fuel prices around, diesel filtered right there on the dock, the way you want it.

Owner is very boat-savvy, so can help with advice, organizing parts, repairs, and even sourcing local specialists. We came in needing a diver to fix a wee issue, and were out of there in 24 hours....Thanks to Billy and Dustin the Diver.

Billy will help you in, find out what you need, and set it up in the blink of an eye.

Very pleasant small family marina.

And if you're a closet fisherman, this guy is a pro with a completely equipped boat and covered cleanng station.

We could not have been happier with our stay and plan to stop again on our way back North in the early Spring.

Safe harbor - friendly people - very competitive diesel price, 2014-11-09
Captain: , Reedville, Va (10)

Stopped in Ingram Bay, Captain Billy Pipkin's marina today. Took on 230 gallons of diesel - best price I could find in the middle bay area. Captain Pipkin gets new fuel frequently so his supply of diesel is fresh. Entrance is well marked - follow the markers. Very safe harbor, and marina has lots of open area for a picnic. A very friendly place.

Good, quiet dockage, 2014-10-31
Captain: , Oriental, NC (110)

Great place to pull in if you need to get off the bay. No fish factory smell that can be a factor across the bay. Very quiet and comfortable. The channel is the narrowest I've seen, stay in the middle. Probably not enough room for two boats to pass in the channel.

Channel entrance, 2014-10-31
Captain: , Wicomico Church, Va (124)

The channel leading to the marina is well marked with dayshapes every 1/4 mile. The 200 feet between the jetties at the entrance to the protected creek is 70 feet wide. Smaller boats typically give the larger yachts the courtesy of passing through alone.

relaxed and easy , 2014-10-30
Captain: , Buzzards Bay (391)

Very friendly small Marina. Great price, honor system washer and dryer. Rustic but clean showers. Fire pit and gazebo to relax on land. Offers to use the truck I only needed cigarettes. Bill pick up a cartoon for me. Did not leave the marina but I understand Wally World and other stores a good drive. Fuel was $3.10 today!

Real Nice Place Peaceful, 2014-10-17

Enjoyed our stay for 3 nights due to weather. Billy sure helps in any way he can to make your stay enjoyable. He let us use his truck to go pick up supplies and eat at a great Restaurant. (KC's Crabs & Cues) Great food and price is right. If you want to go fishing Billy is set up to take you out. Thanks Ingram Bay

No Frills, but great people, and clean, with 6.5 feet all the way in, 2014-06-10

Second time staying here; always treated like visiting royalty. Good fuel, too!

No Frills, but great people, and clean, with 6.5 feet all the way in. Channel is true to the NOAA charts, although there is a missing red marker board (the post is still there, so as long as you have good visibility, it will work fine.)

Great Stop, 2014-05-01
Captain: , oscoda, michigan (183)

Looking for a place to hide out from the weather. IBM was a great choice, price was right, docks were in first class condition and Bill couldn't have been mor accommodating.
We borrowed the loaner truck to pick up a rental car in town and saw some of the area while we were stuck. Wish we could have come in nicer weather as there were some inviting spots to enjoy the views of the bay.

Diamond in the rough, 2014-04-13
Captain: , Myrtle Beach (10)

What a great place, our only regret is that we made a stop over instead of a destination. The owers are on top of their game here and very helpful in every way.
Mary was great helping us in and gettgn us settled in for the night. We pulled in with a fuel issue and didnt have everything we needed to fix it. Bill came over with the tools and helped in getting us back on the water and didnt even charge us. While we were there we walked around and saw some of Bill's handywork refitting and old Tiffany. He did a wonderful job on that interior.
The cabins there are neat and have a great view of the bay. What a nice place to just relax, it was serence and tranquil. You can also go fishing with Bill on his charter boat. We plan on gettign back there again.

Well Protected, 2014-04-01
Captain: , Pearl Harbor, HI (703)

Great little marina just off the Bay with easy access. The small cove makes this a great hurricane hole. Quiet in a country setting. There is a marina pickup truck available for use; just donate some gas. The owners live on premises and bend over backwards to ensure you have everything you need.

Great Marina, 2013-11-01
Captain: , Mila, VA (70)

We first stopped here for fuel several years ago, now we keep our boat here in one of the covered slips.

Ingram Bay Marina is very well protected but directly off the bay. Easy, well marked approach with minimum 6’+ MLW all the way in and past the end of the covered slips. Very good prices on diesel, Boat US and quantity discounts available. Fuel is pre-filtered at fuel dock. Proprietors Billy and Mary are great to work with, knowledgeable and extremely helpful. If they don’t offer it they can find it or help coordinate it for you. Marina is located in a rural area with 15 acres of open space at the marina. Great walking or biking in the nearby waterfront neighborhood or on the country roads. Waterfront dining in Reedville or further up the Great Wicomico River. There are two wineries within 5-6 miles, one of which offers dining on weekends. Newer transient slips. Covered slips are also available up to 50’. Very reasonable prices on everything.

Whether you are looking for a protected stop to wait out weather or a comfortable home base for the middle bay, this is a great marina.

This place has a great easy-going feel. From the hand shake introduction while receiving
Iines to the laundry honor system, we loved the place!

We spent a week there on October 2013. Were looking for a place to hang out diuring the Government shutdown that was not to far from Patomac so we could still go back if it reopened. PLanned a few days and it was so awesome we stayed a whole week. Billy and Mary are the nicest people you couild hope for running a marina. They went out of their way to make sure we had everything we could want or need. We were met on the dock and everything was perfect form there.

The price (of everything, from dock space, to diesel) was the best ever.

Our son went fishing with Billy, he had the most awesome time. Billy was great with kids and made sure our son had fun, both on th efishing trip and even around the marina (showed him crabbing, oystering etc).

The entrance is not to most obvious place to stop, but it was sooooo easy to get in, really nicely marked even the private bouys going into the the creek. We are a 46 foot Cat with 25 foot beam, fit in with no problem and draw 4.5 feet but never saw lesss than 7 foot even at low tide.

What else can I say, if we are back in the area, we will be back

Nice little marina, 2013-10-11
Captain: , Key West, FL (150)

This is a nice little marina with a clearly marked entrance channel. It is the closest marina to the ICW off the Bay. It has diesel and gas, bath house, and picnic area. Mary is very nice and friendly with lots of local info. Not too near to anywhere for shopping, but they have a courtesy car if you need it.

It is not Annapolis or Solomons Island, but Ingram Bay Marina is still a 5 star to us. Billy and Mary Pipkin are professional, kind, welcoming and knowledgable. You may call it a mom and pop stop, but it is so much more. When you enter the channel the depths from the charts show quite shallow, but we never saw less than 9ft below us when we came through at close to low tide. We draw 3ft. Understand that NOAA has resurveyed the area but charts do not seem to reflect this yet. There were 5-6ft draft sailboats docked in neighboring slips during our stay. Billy was at the fuel dock to meet us and help in any and every way. With our Boat US discount we paid less for diesel here than anywhere in the entire Chesapeake area. For those of you interested, this is probably the cleanest diesel fuel you will find on the East Coast. It is filtered at 2 microns upon delivery into your tank. The marina has nice fixed docks with vinyl coated pilings. There is no issue docking as Billy knows what to do with any line you may throw his way. Yes, it is a very quiet area but the owners are quite generous with transportation for groceries and/or supplies and generally have a loaner truck available. Wifi available and is strong. Verizon has good coverage. Sprint not so good. If you are looking for a respite or a safe place out of rough weather or just a big dose of kindness - this is the place. We have always enjoyed anchoring at Mill Creek when in the area, but have found a new favorite spot here at Ingram Marina.

The protection from wind and wake was super. Bring your own food and entertainment. We biked around the neighborhoods little traffic and very relaxing. They will let you use a courtesy car to go into town if you replace the fuel. Boat US discount brought dockage to $1.10 per foot. New docks, clean and homey facilities.

A Very Special Place, 2013-07-15
Captain: , Ancramdale (220)

We are using the marina as our home base while we cruise The Chesapeake for the summer and early fall. We love the rural setting and the peaceful tranquility here. The setting is lovely with views of the bay and nearby creek and everything is so well cared for and charming. This marina is totally protected and would be a perfect place to stay in bad weather.

We brought our car since we will be here for such a long time and also want to explore the historic areas nearby, so getting to services and shopping is not a problem for us. There is nothing nearby, but I have heard that Billy and Mary, the kind and helpful owners, will provide a loaner car if necessary and shopping of all knds is available in Kilmarnock which is aobut 11 miles away.

Fuel, pumpout and repairs are available as well as two charming cottages. Billy runs a top-notch fishing charter service as well. Rate are very reasoable. We can't recommend it enough.

We learned of this marina through AC. Usually if coming N from Portsmouth we do not do this long a trip. After talking to Mary on the phone the day before we decided to go for it if we could get an early enough start. Good decision. Rates are great and Billy and Mary are quite accommodating. The first time here one might wonder where is the entrance but following good directions will put you at the entrance and into a secure area. Would think this to be very safe marina in stormy conditions. We needed no provisions but were told arrangements would be made if we needed to get to a store.

Will certainly use this marina again and recommend it highly

Our Favorate Marina so far after Six Months on the Loop, 2013-06-23
Captain: , Chattanooga, TN (554)

Captain Billy and his wife run a low key marina in a beautiful place on the Chesapeake. They will do anything it takes to make your stay better or to help you with problems.

We stayed three nights waiting for a weather window to sail north. We will be back and will bring friends. In fact, we will come back by ourselves to fish with Captain Billy. This marina is the only place we know we will return to of all the places we've traveled in the half-Loop we've done.

Posts are vinyl clad treated wood to protect fiberglass finishes. The courtesy car is the marina/farm truck which runs great and carries a lot of provisions. Wal-Mart is about 15 miles away, along a beautiful drive.

The baths are clean, but worn, which is probably why some reviewers talked about the marina being like a campground. The washer and dryer are low cost and reported on the honor system. In fact, honor and integrity has a lot to do with this marina.

We were impressed by the people, by the character and were comfortable here.

After limping into Ingram Bay Marina with motor issues we met Bill. It was just before Memorial Day Weekend. As a family run business I can only imagine how busy he was trying to get things ready. Everything stopped for Bill and his sole focus was getting us back on the water. Bill drew from his experience, confirmed his thoughts with his contacts and at 6:30 the following morning was crawling around in our engine room fixing the problem. We set off for Canada with no further issues. Bill checked in on us frequently making sure everything was ok wow that is someone who cares. Thanks Bill.
Oh the facility, well as nice and comfortable as anything we experience on our trip. I hope to one day return.

This is a beautiful little spot tucked away on the Western shore of the bay off the Great Wicomico River. Channel markers are clear; plenty of draft. Quiet, scenic, clean and friendly -- esp. proprietor Capt. Billy. Reliable fuel & pumpout. Bath house is camp-like (bare concrete) but clean. We hope to return.

We sailed by to check this place out in late summer. Looked clean and well kept. We moved our sailboat here in mid November from up the Potomac and really like the place. We need 5 ft of water but have come and gone at low tide without difficulty. It's well protected but very close to the bay.

Billy greeted us and helped us dock in this beautiful and quiet spot. As most marinas and anchorages are on the western Chesapeake, it's way off the bay and tucked in through shoal water. Adequate restroom facilities, camplike. It's away from any town amenities.

Must echo, this is a Great stop! This is a great place to stop over while cruising the Bay and hold during high winds. Captain Billy and his wife made us feel very welcome. We entered the small channel with a wind driven extra low tide, pay attention to your depth sounder. Otherwise entrance is very well marked. The marina has several sailboats and trawlers and we assume they entered at high tide. As for the marina, if you desire to be in a location where all you hear is the breeze and birds, this is it. The marina has the basics with fuel, pump-out and bait & tackle. (Captain Billy also runs a fishing charter boat.) Shower/Baths are campground level. The owners also have two small bungalows for rent if you need to step off your boat. Strongly recommended and we will be back.

Captain: , Solomons, MD (232)

We anchored last night in Mill Creek and realized we needed more diesel to get back to Solomons. Thanks to the excellent reviews in Active Captain we decided to try this marina that had gone unnoticed by us in previous visits to the Great Wicomico. The channel looks daunting, but with our 5 ft draft, we saw close to 8 ft depth under the keel most of the way in except for one very brief 1.8 ft and then 3 ft in the basin. It was half tide. Capt Billy was as friendly as previously mentioned. Definitely more convenient then going all the way to Reedville for fuel.

Great Little Marina off the Beaten Track, 2012-07-15
Captain: , Seabrook, TX (323)

What a beautiful spot and what an accomodating dockmaster, Captain Billy. No store nor rental car agency nearby, no courtesy car (though Billy might be able to accomodate you in a pinch), no pool nor clubhouse/captains lounge; but good, clean showers and heads, laundry facilities, quick in/out of the Chesapeake, good wind protection, low prices, volleyball net, kayaks for rent, beautiful scenery, and a super dockmaster. Billy gave us a good bucket with a sturdy handle when we mentioned that we were looking for one, and, realizing that he was out of Chesapeake Bay chartbooks, sold us his very-slightly used one at a big discount. Billy charters fishing tours and evening cruises, but otherwise is on premises, watching out for everyone's boats. We plan to return.

As other reveiwers have said - the best part are the Marina Owners !. Can't do enough for visitors Capt Billy's a real pro - very competent, and Mary's a charmer.
Serpentine entrance channel, but well-marked and plenty of water (worst I saw was 8ft). If in doubt - call them for local knowledge.

looks like a good spot to wait-out a blow too - it's extremely well protected.

Friendliest Marina Around, 2012-05-30
Captain: , Greenville, N.C. (40)

This was our first but definitely not our last trip to Ingram Bay Marina. The owner, Billy Pipkin, and employees are about the friendliest and most helpful on the bay. If you're looking for a quiet, out of the way place for the night, this is at the top of the list. The slips are very reasonalble, good electric, diesel and no ethanol gas, and internet. We even had some minor repair work done on site at an unbelievable rate. Restrooms are adequate and clean. Great little protected marina. You won't regret coming in to visit.

One of the nicer and most well protected anchorages on the Chesapeake Bay is Mill Creek off the Great Wicomico River. Unfortunately, while anchoring ,we developed mechanical problems late in the date. We contacted the nearby Ingram Bay Marina and owner/operator, Billy Pipkin, quickly came to our assistance after unsuccesful call sto other marinas. We spent the night at the well protected marina in a slip. With a BoatUs discount, the slip rate was very reasonably at $1.10 ft. The grounds are nicely kept with cottages to rent and charter fishing boats for hire. Billy went out of his way to assist us and provide us with knowledgeable techical advice. Towboat US is based at this marina. We had a very comfortable and peacefull evening. I would highly recommend using this facility. The channel is well marked and the depths are fine as we draw 5.5 ft. and also good wind protection.

Ingram Bay in winter, 2011-02-26
Captain: , Annapolis (3379)

February is not the ideal time to visit a marina and rate its facilities. Mary & and Billy were enjoying a weekend away before the 24/7 madness of summer. We had met them here last summer and know them to be wonderful helpful friendly and willing to do what ever it takes. The entrance is deeper than it appears and you can get 6 feet in here at low warter. The marina is well protected from winds from any quadrant. The docks are in good condition the grounds are neat even in winter and are landscaped and pretty in summer. The bath houses could use some work, but hey we shower aboard. It is the sort of low key, off the beaten path spot that we enjoy. A great place if you have dogs, and also a great place to stage dinghy explorations of Dameron Marsh (seasonal closures for nesting).

Chose this marina because it was off the beaton track and loved it. It is pure rural, quiet with wild life. Billy, the owner, dockmaster, fisherman, etc. is very friendly and helpful. The marina itself is in a basin which provides all around protection from every wind direction.

It's the people that are important, 2009-02-14
Captain: , Albemarle Sound (41)

I got towed into the marina by Boat US after clogging my fuel filters on a very rough bay. As this was my first trip with the boat, (I was taking it home after purchase) I was totally clueless. Billy found replacement filters and then drove me 80 miles round trip to get them. With his helpful guidance, I got the filter in, the system bled, and the engine restarted. Although i was a complete idiot being so unprepared for this situation, Billy never made me feel this way. He coached me to learn this important task (with out just doing it for me, which would have been much easier and quicker for him) and encouraged me at each step to understand what I was doing and why. The facilities are great, but it would still rate as my #1 marina experience if I had been tied to a stump. Thanks Billy!

Captain: , Lottsburg, Va (264)

We limped into Ingram Bay Marinea on one engine and it was like the prodigal son returning home. Billy offered to help in any way. We have not really availed ourselves of the facilities, hence the 4-star rating and not 5, but if the bath house is like the dock and the owner, it is top rate.

Lovely place., 2008-03-31
Captain: , Beaufort, NC (6)

I pulled in here and was suprised by the brand spanking new docks and clean bathhouse. The channel is a little strange, as you can see by the satellite photograph, but it has plenty of water.

Capt Billy is a great guy, and I can't speak highly enough of him. I sprung a leak and pulled in panic stricken... he helped me track down the leak climbing through the lazarette, and proceeded to fix the problem laying in the cockpit while it was pouring down rain. Wouldn't accept a tip.

Then when I was leaving he shared some hard won information about docking, line handling, and even hopped on board and taught a bit about prop walk.

He offered his truck for me to go get some gas, as they were installing new gas pumps when I was staying there.

Billy runs a fishing headboat while his wife tends the docks (live right on site) and in some past life was a sailing instructor.

Two thumbs way, way up.
