Reviews for Ingram Bay Marina
quiet and nice, 2015-03-25
Captain: , Haddam, CT (240)

Cd-25, 3 ft draft.
Stayed over on 21 March 2015. I stopped for fuel but stayed the night, showers, laundry. Measured 7.5 ft at midtide in the entrance jetty. No tide and no waves

Great marina and staff, 2015-03-22
Captain: , Wormley Creek, Yorktown, VA (40)

During our 8 days cruise on the Chesapeake in July 2014 we lost an anchor while trying to pull our boat from the spot where we went aground. We called Ingram Marina to see if they could help. Captain Billy said no problem come on in. So we did. Great marina well protected and very well maintained. Captain Billy provided a new anchor with rode and everything at a very reasonable price. He was also very helpfull and gave us tones of information about the area and ou next destination Tangier Island.

Many thanks from Jean & Nancy the people with flotting chairs for dinghy.

Outstanding Customer Focus, Service, Docks and Fuel, 2014-12-07
Captain: , Penetanguishene (85)

Very nice, clean easy to access small marina. quiet and very safe. Fixed docks and pilings means you can put 8 lines on a boat in a blow. Super spot to visit for fuel. Courtesy vehicle available for provisioning. Best fuel prices around, diesel filtered right there on the dock, the way you want it.

Owner is very boat-savvy, so can help with advice, organizing parts, repairs, and even sourcing local specialists. We came in needing a diver to fix a wee issue, and were out of there in 24 hours....Thanks to Billy and Dustin the Diver.

Billy will help you in, find out what you need, and set it up in the blink of an eye.

Very pleasant small family marina.

And if you're a closet fisherman, this guy is a pro with a completely equipped boat and covered cleanng station.

We could not have been happier with our stay and plan to stop again on our way back North in the early Spring.

Safe harbor - friendly people - very competitive diesel price, 2014-11-09
Captain: , Reedville, Va (10)

Stopped in Ingram Bay, Captain Billy Pipkin's marina today. Took on 230 gallons of diesel - best price I could find in the middle bay area. Captain Pipkin gets new fuel frequently so his supply of diesel is fresh. Entrance is well marked - follow the markers. Very safe harbor, and marina has lots of open area for a picnic. A very friendly place.

Good, quiet dockage, 2014-10-31
Captain: , Oriental, NC (80)

Great place to pull in if you need to get off the bay. No fish factory smell that can be a factor across the bay. Very quiet and comfortable. The channel is the narrowest I've seen, stay in the middle. Probably not enough room for two boats to pass in the channel.

Channel entrance, 2014-10-31
Captain: , Wicomico Church, Va (93)

The channel leading to the marina is well marked with dayshapes every 1/4 mile. The 200 feet between the jetties at the entrance to the protected creek is 70 feet wide. Smaller boats typically give the larger yachts the courtesy of passing through alone.

relaxed and easy , 2014-10-30
Captain: , Buzzards Bay (298)

Very friendly small Marina. Great price, honor system washer and dryer. Rustic but clean showers. Fire pit and gazebo to relax on land. Offers to use the truck I only needed cigarettes. Bill pick up a cartoon for me. Did not leave the marina but I understand Wally World and other stores a good drive. Fuel was $3.10 today!

Real Nice Place Peaceful, 2014-10-17
Captain: , Kuttawa Kentucky (350)

Enjoyed our stay for 3 nights due to weather. Billy sure helps in any way he can to make your stay enjoyable. He let us use his truck to go pick up supplies and eat at a great Restaurant. (KC's Crabs & Cues) Great food and price is right. If you want to go fishing Billy is set up to take you out. Thanks Ingram Bay

Nice marina, 2014-09-18
Captain: , Ashville, Pa (10)

Nice marina, great people, nice walking & biking area. Will stop again.

No Frills, but great people, and clean, with 6.5 feet all the way in, 2014-06-10
Captain: , Muskegon, MI (2618)

Second time staying here; always treated like visiting royalty. Good fuel, too!

No Frills, but great people, and clean, with 6.5 feet all the way in. Channel is true to the NOAA charts, although there is a missing red marker board (the post is still there, so as long as you have good visibility, it will work fine.)

Great Stop, 2014-05-01
Captain: , oscoda, michigan (182)

Looking for a place to hide out from the weather. IBM was a great choice, price was right, docks were in first class condition and Bill couldn't have been mor accommodating.
We borrowed the loaner truck to pick up a rental car in town and saw some of the area while we were stuck. Wish we could have come in nicer weather as there were some inviting spots to enjoy the views of the bay.

Diamond in the rough, 2014-04-13
Captain: , Myrtle Beach (10)

What a great place, our only regret is that we made a stop over instead of a destination. The owers are on top of their game here and very helpful in every way.
Mary was great helping us in and gettgn us settled in for the night. We pulled in with a fuel issue and didnt have everything we needed to fix it. Bill came over with the tools and helped in getting us back on the water and didnt even charge us. While we were there we walked around and saw some of Bill's handywork refitting and old Tiffany. He did a wonderful job on that interior.
The cabins there are neat and have a great view of the bay. What a nice place to just relax, it was serence and tranquil. You can also go fishing with Bill on his charter boat. We plan on gettign back there again.

Well Protected, 2014-04-01
Captain: , Pearl Harbor, HI (114)

Great little marina just off the Bay with easy access. The small cove makes this a great hurricane hole. Quiet in a country setting. There is a marina pickup truck available for use; just donate some gas. The owners live on premises and bend over backwards to ensure you have everything you need.

Great Marina, 2013-11-01
Captain: , Mila, VA (30)

We first stopped here for fuel several years ago, now we keep our boat here in one of the covered slips.

Ingram Bay Marina is very well protected but directly off the bay. Easy, well marked approach with minimum 6’+ MLW all the way in and past the end of the covered slips. Very good prices on diesel, Boat US and quantity discounts available. Fuel is pre-filtered at fuel dock. Proprietors Billy and Mary are great to work with, knowledgeable and extremely helpful. If they don’t offer it they can find it or help coordinate it for you. Marina is located in a rural area with 15 acres of open space at the marina. Great walking or biking in the nearby waterfront neighborhood or on the country roads. Waterfront dining in Reedville or further up the Great Wicomico River. There are two wineries within 5-6 miles, one of which offers dining on weekends. Newer transient slips. Covered slips are also available up to 50’. Very reasonable prices on everything.

Whether you are looking for a protected stop to wait out weather or a comfortable home base for the middle bay, this is a great marina.

This place has a great easy-going feel. From the hand shake introduction while receiving
Iines to the laundry honor system, we loved the place!

Awesome Experience, 2013-10-25
Captain: , Santa Cruz, CA (10)

We spent a week there on October 2013. Were looking for a place to hang out diuring the Government shutdown that was not to far from Patomac so we could still go back if it reopened. PLanned a few days and it was so awesome we stayed a whole week. Billy and Mary are the nicest people you couild hope for running a marina. They went out of their way to make sure we had everything we could want or need. We were met on the dock and everything was perfect form there.

The price (of everything, from dock space, to diesel) was the best ever.

Our son went fishing with Billy, he had the most awesome time. Billy was great with kids and made sure our son had fun, both on th efishing trip and even around the marina (showed him crabbing, oystering etc).

The entrance is not to most obvious place to stop, but it was sooooo easy to get in, really nicely marked even the private bouys going into the the creek. We are a 46 foot Cat with 25 foot beam, fit in with no problem and draw 4.5 feet but never saw lesss than 7 foot even at low tide.

What else can I say, if we are back in the area, we will be back

Nice little marina, 2013-10-11
Captain: , Key West, FL (150)

This is a nice little marina with a clearly marked entrance channel. It is the closest marina to the ICW off the Bay. It has diesel and gas, bath house, and picnic area. Mary is very nice and friendly with lots of local info. Not too near to anywhere for shopping, but they have a courtesy car if you need it.

You'll want to return, 2013-09-23
Captain: , Newport RI. (145)

It is not Annapolis or Solomons Island, but Ingram Bay Marina is still a 5 star to us. Billy and Mary Pipkin are professional, kind, welcoming and knowledgable. You may call it a mom and pop stop, but it is so much more. When you enter the channel the depths from the charts show quite shallow, but we never saw less than 9ft below us when we came through at close to low tide. We draw 3ft. Understand that NOAA has resurveyed the area but charts do not seem to reflect this yet. There were 5-6ft draft sailboats docked in neighboring slips during our stay. Billy was at the fuel dock to meet us and help in any and every way. With our Boat US discount we paid less for diesel here than anywhere in the entire Chesapeake area. For those of you interested, this is probably the cleanest diesel fuel you will find on the East Coast. It is filtered at 2 microns upon delivery into your tank. The marina has nice fixed docks with vinyl coated pilings. There is no issue docking as Billy knows what to do with any line you may throw his way. Yes, it is a very quiet area but the owners are quite generous with transportation for groceries and/or supplies and generally have a loaner truck available. Wifi available and is strong. Verizon has good coverage. Sprint not so good. If you are looking for a respite or a safe place out of rough weather or just a big dose of kindness - this is the place. We have always enjoyed anchoring at Mill Creek when in the area, but have found a new favorite spot here at Ingram Marina.

beautiful and quiet, 2013-08-26
Captain: , Fairfield Harbour, NC (50)

The protection from wind and wake was super. Bring your own food and entertainment. We biked around the neighborhoods little traffic and very relaxing. They will let you use a courtesy car to go into town if you replace the fuel. Boat US discount brought dockage to $1.10 per foot. New docks, clean and homey facilities.

A Very Special Place, 2013-07-15
Captain: , Ancramdale (180)

We are using the marina as our home base while we cruise The Chesapeake for the summer and early fall. We love the rural setting and the peaceful tranquility here. The setting is lovely with views of the bay and nearby creek and everything is so well cared for and charming. This marina is totally protected and would be a perfect place to stay in bad weather.

We brought our car since we will be here for such a long time and also want to explore the historic areas nearby, so getting to services and shopping is not a problem for us. There is nothing nearby, but I have heard that Billy and Mary, the kind and helpful owners, will provide a loaner car if necessary and shopping of all knds is available in Kilmarnock which is aobut 11 miles away.

Fuel, pumpout and repairs are available as well as two charming cottages. Billy runs a top-notch fishing charter service as well. Rate are very reasoable. We can't recommend it enough.

Pleasant quite harbor, 2013-07-14
Captain: , Stuart FL (795)

We learned of this marina through AC. Usually if coming N from Portsmouth we do not do this long a trip. After talking to Mary on the phone the day before we decided to go for it if we could get an early enough start. Good decision. Rates are great and Billy and Mary are quite accommodating. The first time here one might wonder where is the entrance but following good directions will put you at the entrance and into a secure area. Would think this to be very safe marina in stormy conditions. We needed no provisions but were told arrangements would be made if we needed to get to a store.

Will certainly use this marina again and recommend it highly

Just a excellent stop when we needed it

Our Favorate Marina so far after Six Months on the Loop, 2013-06-23
Captain: , Chattanooga, TN (442)

Captain Billy and his wife run a low key marina in a beautiful place on the Chesapeake. They will do anything it takes to make your stay better or to help you with problems.

We stayed three nights waiting for a weather window to sail north. We will be back and will bring friends. In fact, we will come back by ourselves to fish with Captain Billy. This marina is the only place we know we will return to of all the places we've traveled in the half-Loop we've done.

Posts are vinyl clad treated wood to protect fiberglass finishes. The courtesy car is the marina/farm truck which runs great and carries a lot of provisions. Wal-Mart is about 15 miles away, along a beautiful drive.

The baths are clean, but worn, which is probably why some reviewers talked about the marina being like a campground. The washer and dryer are low cost and reported on the honor system. In fact, honor and integrity has a lot to do with this marina.

We were impressed by the people, by the character and were comfortable here.

great service, 2013-06-07
Captain: , Thunder Bay (10)

After limping into Ingram Bay Marina with motor issues we met Bill. It was just before Memorial Day Weekend. As a family run business I can only imagine how busy he was trying to get things ready. Everything stopped for Bill and his sole focus was getting us back on the water. Bill drew from his experience, confirmed his thoughts with his contacts and at 6:30 the following morning was crawling around in our engine room fixing the problem. We set off for Canada with no further issues. Bill checked in on us frequently making sure everything was ok wow that is someone who cares. Thanks Bill.
Oh the facility, well as nice and comfortable as anything we experience on our trip. I hope to one day return.

A hidden gem, 2013-04-12
Captain: , Herrington Harbour South (10)

This is a beautiful little spot tucked away on the Western shore of the bay off the Great Wicomico River. Channel markers are clear; plenty of draft. Quiet, scenic, clean and friendly -- esp. proprietor Capt. Billy. Reliable fuel & pumpout. Bath house is camp-like (bare concrete) but clean. We hope to return.

Ingram Bay Marina, 2012-12-01
Captain: , Hurricane, WV (242)

We sailed by to check this place out in late summer. Looked clean and well kept. We moved our sailboat here in mid November from up the Potomac and really like the place. We need 5 ft of water but have come and gone at low tide without difficulty. It's well protected but very close to the bay.

Ingram Bay Marina, 2012-10-15
Captain: , Pelican Marina, Elizabeth City, NC (131)

Billy greeted us and helped us dock in this beautiful and quiet spot. As most marinas and anchorages are on the western Chesapeake, it's way off the bay and tucked in through shoal water. Adequate restroom facilities, camplike. It's away from any town amenities.

Quiet calm safe, 2012-10-15
Captain: , Edenton, NC (91)

Must echo, this is a Great stop! This is a great place to stop over while cruising the Bay and hold during high winds. Captain Billy and his wife made us feel very welcome. We entered the small channel with a wind driven extra low tide, pay attention to your depth sounder. Otherwise entrance is very well marked. The marina has several sailboats and trawlers and we assume they entered at high tide. As for the marina, if you desire to be in a location where all you hear is the breeze and birds, this is it. The marina has the basics with fuel, pump-out and bait & tackle. (Captain Billy also runs a fishing charter boat.) Shower/Baths are campground level. The owners also have two small bungalows for rent if you need to step off your boat. Strongly recommended and we will be back.

Easier access than it would appear, 2012-09-25
Captain: , Solomons, MD (162)

We anchored last night in Mill Creek and realized we needed more diesel to get back to Solomons. Thanks to the excellent reviews in Active Captain we decided to try this marina that had gone unnoticed by us in previous visits to the Great Wicomico. The channel looks daunting, but with our 5 ft draft, we saw close to 8 ft depth under the keel most of the way in except for one very brief 1.8 ft and then 3 ft in the basin. It was half tide. Capt Billy was as friendly as previously mentioned. Definitely more convenient then going all the way to Reedville for fuel.

Great Little Marina off the Beaten Track, 2012-07-15
Captain: , Seabrook, TX (303)

What a beautiful spot and what an accomodating dockmaster, Captain Billy. No store nor rental car agency nearby, no courtesy car (though Billy might be able to accomodate you in a pinch), no pool nor clubhouse/captains lounge; but good, clean showers and heads, laundry facilities, quick in/out of the Chesapeake, good wind protection, low prices, volleyball net, kayaks for rent, beautiful scenery, and a super dockmaster. Billy gave us a good bucket with a sturdy handle when we mentioned that we were looking for one, and, realizing that he was out of Chesapeake Bay chartbooks, sold us his very-slightly used one at a big discount. Billy charters fishing tours and evening cruises, but otherwise is on premises, watching out for everyone's boats. We plan to return.

As other reveiwers have said - the best part are the Marina Owners !. Can't do enough for visitors Capt Billy's a real pro - very competent, and Mary's a charmer.
Serpentine entrance channel, but well-marked and plenty of water (worst I saw was 8ft). If in doubt - call them for local knowledge.

looks like a good spot to wait-out a blow too - it's extremely well protected.

Friendliest Marina Around, 2012-05-30
Captain: , Greenville, N.C. (40)

This was our first but definitely not our last trip to Ingram Bay Marina. The owner, Billy Pipkin, and employees are about the friendliest and most helpful on the bay. If you're looking for a quiet, out of the way place for the night, this is at the top of the list. The slips are very reasonalble, good electric, diesel and no ethanol gas, and internet. We even had some minor repair work done on site at an unbelievable rate. Restrooms are adequate and clean. Great little protected marina. You won't regret coming in to visit.

Great service, 2012-05-12

May 2, 2012
One of the nicer and most well protected anchorages on the Chesapeake Bay is Mill Creek off the Great Wicomico River. Unfortunately, while anchoring ,we developed mechanical problems late in the date. We contacted the nearby Ingram Bay Marina and owner/operator, Billy Pipkin, quickly came to our assistance after unsuccesful call sto other marinas. We spent the night at the well protected marina in a slip. With a BoatUs discount, the slip rate was very reasonably at $1.10 ft. The grounds are nicely kept with cottages to rent and charter fishing boats for hire. Billy went out of his way to assist us and provide us with knowledgeable techical advice. Towboat US is based at this marina. We had a very comfortable and peacefull evening. I would highly recommend using this facility. The channel is well marked and the depths are fine as we draw 5.5 ft. and also good wind protection.

Ingram Bay in winter, 2011-02-26
Captain: , Deltaville (2158)

February is not the ideal time to visit a marina and rate its facilities. Mary & and Billy were enjoying a weekend away before the 24/7 madness of summer. We had met them here last summer and know them to be wonderful helpful friendly and willing to do what ever it takes. The entrance is deeper than it appears and you can get 6 feet in here at low warter. The marina is well protected from winds from any quadrant. The docks are in good condition the grounds are neat even in winter and are landscaped and pretty in summer. The bath houses could use some work, but hey we shower aboard. It is the sort of low key, off the beaten path spot that we enjoy. A great place if you have dogs, and also a great place to stage dinghy explorations of Dameron Marsh (seasonal closures for nesting).

Well protected facility., 2011-02-22
Captain: , Gloucester, VA (514)

My chart plotter was Tango Uniform so I had to radio Capt. Billy for directions into his bay. A very accommodating fellow with reasonable fuel prices.

Quiet beauty, 2009-06-05
Captain: , Lewes, DE (2267)

Chose this marina because it was off the beaton track and loved it. It is pure rural, quiet with wild life. Billy, the owner, dockmaster, fisherman, etc. is very friendly and helpful. The marina itself is in a basin which provides all around protection from every wind direction.

It's the people that are important, 2009-02-14
Captain: , Albemarle Sound (41)

I got towed into the marina by Boat US after clogging my fuel filters on a very rough bay. As this was my first trip with the boat, (I was taking it home after purchase) I was totally clueless. Billy found replacement filters and then drove me 80 miles round trip to get them. With his helpful guidance, I got the filter in, the system bled, and the engine restarted. Although i was a complete idiot being so unprepared for this situation, Billy never made me feel this way. He coached me to learn this important task (with out just doing it for me, which would have been much easier and quicker for him) and encouraged me at each step to understand what I was doing and why. The facilities are great, but it would still rate as my #1 marina experience if I had been tied to a stump. Thanks Billy!

Captain: , Lottsburg, Va (184)

We limped into Ingram Bay Marinea on one engine and it was like the prodigal son returning home. Billy offered to help in any way. We have not really availed ourselves of the facilities, hence the 4-star rating and not 5, but if the bath house is like the dock and the owner, it is top rate.

Lovely place., 2008-03-31
Captain: , Beaufort, NC (6)

I pulled in here and was suprised by the brand spanking new docks and clean bathhouse. The channel is a little strange, as you can see by the satellite photograph, but it has plenty of water.

Capt Billy is a great guy, and I can't speak highly enough of him. I sprung a leak and pulled in panic stricken... he helped me track down the leak climbing through the lazarette, and proceeded to fix the problem laying in the cockpit while it was pouring down rain. Wouldn't accept a tip.

Then when I was leaving he shared some hard won information about docking, line handling, and even hopped on board and taught a bit about prop walk.

He offered his truck for me to go get some gas, as they were installing new gas pumps when I was staying there.

Billy runs a fishing headboat while his wife tends the docks (live right on site) and in some past life was a sailing instructor.

Two thumbs way, way up.
