Reviews for Hutchinson Island Marriott Beach Resort and Marina
Good Location but that is it..., 2017-03-02
Captain: , Stuart, Fl (105)

The marina is in a wonderful location (resort, beach etc.) As for the rest, docks are old, leaking water outlets, water is shallow (6'). There is a surge as boats pass by on the intercoastal waterway. On a positive note, the dock staff was great! They were helpful and nice. Probably not be back though.

poor choice for transients, 2017-02-03
Captain: , Blue Mesa Co (100)

A great resort hotel, but a poor excuse for a marina. poorly marked entrance channel where its easy to find less than 6 ft of water. fixed docks requiring a 2 ft step to get on/off your boat. a one man marina staff who may or may not be available to help with docking. if you arrive later than mid afternoon, you're on your own. If they put you on the outside face dock, you'll be rocked all day & night by the wake of every passing boat. a shower room thats more like an employee locker room. useless wifi. I don't mind paying $2.50 a ft when its justified by top notch service. Unfortunately, thats not the case here.

Easy in & out, great resort., 2016-11-09
Captain: , Erie, Pa. (1896)

October 2015
a great stop, marina is old with fixed docks but seems to be in good shape. Hotel facility is super, very resortlike, 3 pools, health club, beach club and beach access. Day Spa across the street. Easy 5 star with a little attention to marina. 11 feet of water at fuel dock at low tide, less than 1.5 foot tide, electric 225 volts per plug. would definately come again. Channel had 10 plus feet all the way in, easy in & out.

11-8-16 Dock was $2.50 foot plus $12.00 per 50 amp plug, diesel was $2.34 gallon, previous comments all still apply.

still not up to snuff, 2016-05-22
Captain: , mobile, al (171)

security gate not closing automatically. You have to enter the gate code after coming on dock. Showers were pitiful. I had to repair the men's before I could use it and the womens was unusable. Staff was fiendly but dissappeared at 3:30. Dock closes at 4. I have twins, but a late arrival with a single screw had a very difficult time docking with no staff available ( I went out and caught his lines) due to heavy currents and exposed location.

Painful, just painful., 2015-12-16
Captain: , Everett, WA (939)

Where to start? We ran aground while attempting to dock in our assigned slip in spite of telling the marina my 6'3" draft several times when I called for a reservation. I finally realized I had to go bow-in, which made it a noisy night with hull slap while exposed to south winds. Why not ask for a different slip assignment? Because the marina office was already closed at 4:00 PM! They gave no notification they would be closed when I made the slip reservation earlier that day and gave them my ETA (which turned out to be very accurate). As a result, we had no clue as to where exactly our slip was located, no dock help, no info on bath location or wifi, no information on amenities, and no idea if we would get locked out by the big keypad-controlled gate at the front of the marina (We learned during check-out it was out of order.). The resort restaurant was overpriced & slow in spite of being relatively empty, and the $8 mojitos were weak, so we retired to the boat early to watch the game from there instead of the bar. Unfortunately, the cable didn't work. The bathroom was closed for cleaning at 7:30 in the morning, and the dockmaster's office door was locked at when we tried to pay at 8:00. When we finally were able to pay for the slip, we found out that the diesel pump was offline due to construction. The flood current made getting underway difficult, and we also ran aground backing out of the slip- not enough turning room. All this for $117, not counting the overpriced meal?? No thanks, we won't be coming back. In the end we filled water, reprovisioned at Publix, and did laundry (though don't use left dryer- it doesn't dry), so I guess it wasn't a total waste.

Other info: Coming from the ICW in the channel we saw 8.1 ft one hour before low tide, which equates to approximately 7.7 ft MLW, but see comments above for depths in the slip and channel outside slip. Concrete fixed docks- sturdy, clean, and high. Finger piers are approximately 25 ft long, so stern tie is preferred. 1 of 2 50A services worked at our slip (64), cable was not working. Publix is 12 minute walk away, closes at 9PM. Port side dryer drys very poorly, use the other one. As of 12/15/15- no fuel is available.

Mostly good - I've stayed there several times, 2015-08-21
Captain: , St. Petersburg, FL (201)

First started staying here about 10 years ago. They've cut back on marina amenities during that time (for instance they used to have hotel shampoos, soaps, and towels available in the men's showers - but not now). Showers could have been a little cleaner (mildew on shower curtain). You do get all the amenities of the hotel (pools, tiki bars, tram that runs you over to the beach). Wifi is so-so (very slow by today's standards). Dockmaster Rich was very helpful. Good deal on wash/dry (1.25/wash, 1.00/dry)

Best Marina and Staff in the Area, 2015-05-15
Captain: , Deerfield Beach, FL 33441 (60)

Facilities are kept in very good condition, staff is very helpful beginning with docking and most anything else you need. Kudos to dockmaster, Richard, who helped us solve both mechanical and transportation issues while staying at the marina. We'll definitely be back.

Nice marina, but tricky for a small powercat, 2015-03-12
Captain: , Cape Coral, FL (1521)

We stayed one night to meet friends as our paths crossed. Nice marina, well kept and shore-side facilities are beautiful. We're a 34' powercat and were offered a large slip where we would have fit but was clearly designed for a 60+ foot vessel; with the short concrete finger piers and widely-spaced pilings it would have been tricky to tie the cat in without risking damage. We opted instead to stay on the end of the T-dock which is exposed to wind and wakes - but again, that was our choice. On shore there are two washing machines and two dryers, made good use of them.

High Docks, 2015-01-12
Captain: , Newport, RI (360)

the height of the docks is NOT condusive to boats under 34' or so - the pilings are concrete and potentially unforgiving - the marina can also get rocky in a blow as its not very protective - again, big boats should not have a problem - the resort and its amenities are beautiful.

Great place to stay, 2014-06-01
Captain: , Lizella GA (1826)

This is a high end resort. They marina staff are top notch and very helpful. The resturants are excellant and the restrooms and showers are very nice.

Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1633)

Stayed here 3 night to attend Gold Loopers Reunuio. The dockmaster and staff were very helpful in getting us in in very windy conditions and hooking up power, water, etc. The finger piers are only 24' long so if you want to get off the boat you have to go stern in. Pretty rocky in westerly winds.

Resort marina, 2013-05-06
Captain: , Punta Gorda, Fl (960)

This is a resort marina. If you are looking for a quality marina with ammenties of the Marriott, this is a good one. The docks are not floating and the tides can be an issue. Convenient off the ICW. Fuel dock easy access. We had quite a hike off the boat. The showers are very nice. Pool/pool bar/food/very nice. Golf course looks awesome--we cannot rate as we did not play.
Pricey but it is a full service resort.

Not A Big Boat Marina, 2011-07-15
Captain: , Green Cove Springs FL (1394)

50 ft LOA 5 FT DRAFT. Was advised it was a 65 ft slip but 24 ft (measured with tape measure) short concrete fingers leave you with 41 ft of air and nothingto put a spring line on.. Shallow less than a foot under the keel. Very rolly and water slapping on stern from the south. 7 days of climbing over bow rail to get off boat. Pool and Beach nice. Marina and Hotel are two separate entities doubt they talk to each other. Mariina Staff very helpful. Publix was close and Island Deli fine. It is somewhat isolated.

Wouldn't go back!, 2011-06-06
Captain: , Newport Beach, CA (100)

Easy in but poor docks. No protection on sides of pillings. Got bad case of dock rash.

Poor selection of resturants.

A resort for you - not your boat!, 2011-05-02
Captain: , Palm Coast (792)

Has all the amenities of a high-end resort - pools, golf, tennis, beach etc. The marina is getting a little long in the tooth. The slips are large but the finger piers are so short that any boat over 30 feet that doesn't "stern-in" is going to present a major problem for getting on and off. Marina is so far off ICW that many boats don't slow down and wake the entire marina.

Staff is helpful and pleasant. Publix is a short walk.

very nice resort, 2011-04-18
Captain: , shoreham ny (343)

The marina is OK , under 6 ft at mlw. The pools (3)and ocean beach make it worthwhile. Tennis courts & golfing is very well maintained.

Good provisioning stop, 2011-04-16
Captain: , Palm Coast, FL (351)

Publix is a 15 minute walk away, as a Wachovia bank and the Oceanographic Center are even closer. Great swimming pool and a tram to the beach and other pools. Baja Grill is expensive for lunch but reasonable for dinner, since it uses the same menu for both. Watch your air conditioning - lots of sea grass gunked it up for many of the boats at our Rendezvous. If you can, avoid the slips on the south side of the south pier. A strong south wind makes for a very noissy sloppy night. The north side of the south pier and the north pier are protected by metal breakwaters under the piers.

Watch out for the weeds!!!!, 2011-04-14
Captain: , MONARCH. COLORADO (1156)

Differrent from most marinas, this is a Marriot with Golf, Pool, good restaurants and close by provisioning. The docks are solid made of concrete with fixed finger piers about 28' long. On the whole this would be a desirable spot except for the abundance of grass and weed that collects in the slips. At our rendezvous, many boats including ours had problems with airconditioner intakes. I had to flush three times in two days. Most unpleasant.

Excellent Island Resort, 2011-04-13
Captain: , Dallas Tx (539)

The resort, pools, beach, golf course, tennis, bike trails, and water sports are all excellent. The marina staff are extremely helpful. The only problem in the marina was the abundance of sea grass floating under the surface and blocking raw water intakes for air conditioners. The floating seagrass may be seasonal, but it was heave in May.

Great Stop for more that a day!, 2011-02-23
Captain: , Charleston, SC (30)

Wonderful resort at hand with a car rental on site. A Publix in bike distance and bikes available. Richard is a great dockmaster to help in and out with enthusiasm and welcome. Certain we will return

Nice spot to spend some time, 2011-02-17
Captain: , Beaufort, NC (531)

We stayed here for alomost a month and enjoyed almost every minute of it. The marina is very exposed and with a wind out of the south you will bounce around a bit. Entrance to the marina is via a well mared channel from the ICW and you will find no shortage of dock hands to help you get into your slip.

When you stay here, you get full access to the services of the attached Marriott. There is a shuttle that will take you to the golf course and the ocean beach. You can walk to the restaurant and pool. The pool is nice but had a number of small children in attendance. As kids do, things can get a bit loud and wet if you are right next to the pool.

As far as I know, for shopping you will have to rent a car. It was not an issue for us, as we had friends staying at the hotel. If you do have transportation, groceries, shopping and a ton of restaurants are within a short distance.

The place is not cheap, but considering the fact that you are staying at a ocean resort, see reasonable.

We will definitely be back. Highly recommended for a week or so stay.

Great Facility attached to the Marriott. With Dockage you have access to all the facilities, restaurants, pool, golf course etc. A shuttle can take you to the grocery store also. We dock here during the winter and LOVE it.
