Reviews for Horta Marina
Beautiful and well run, not ideal for cats, 2016-10-12
Captain: , Shell Knob, MO (868)

All of the positive reviews are correct, as the marina and city are beautiful and well run. The check-in is fast and efficient and the officers are all friendly and helpful. However, for catamarans the setup is less than ideal. The concrete piers and thrashing monohulls that you are rafted to mean at best a jerky ride on the dock and at worst paint and hull damage. We spent one loud, jerky night rafted to a monohull and then spent the rest of them at peace in the anchorage, even in 25 knot winds.

Beautiful Marina, 2015-07-03
Captain: , Marina de Angra do heroismo (70)

Beautiful Marina, friendly people, small town with very friendly people. mandatory visit to Peters Sport Bar.

Big marina, this is where most people make landfall., 2015-06-30
Captain: , Miami (293)

Large busy marina. Lots of rafting, some on floating docks, some on walls. Prominent white building houses manager, immigration, customs and maritime police. You are supposed to go to the dock in front of this office to check but as it is always full (it is also the fuel dock) and somewhat chaotic you can anchor and dinghy in to check in. Had the pleasure of watching two French skippers almost come to blows over dock space. Peters Sport Bar is the place and "Peter Jr" (I believe that Peter is not his actual name, just a tradition) is extremely helpful. The food is surprisingly good. Three items of use; electrical shop beyond Mid Atlantic Yacht Service is actually cheaper and more helpful for electrical items. It's called FotoJovial, the younger Machado speaks perfect English. The large supermarket CONTINENTE, is huge and well priced. They will deliver you and your shopping back to the boat. Peter will arrange a taxi in Pico to take an excellent tour of the neighboring island of Pico. Ferry over, 30mins, 4euro each way. Ask him to call Jose Leo or his wife Maria Ph. 917 537 910. We only met Maria but she was fabulous. She spend her youth in Canada and is an excellent guide. For my taste Horta is where you check in, restock, chill and then visit other islands.

Must stop after a long trip, 2015-06-20
Captain: , Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK (1090)

This is a must stop after sailing across the Atrlantic or from mainland Europe and you MUST leave you mark on the wall so come prepared with paint.

You must expect to either be 'on the wall' or rafted out.

There are lots of services from bar etc to great natical services. MAYS are the goto people for anything that may have broken

Paint Your Boat Name on the Marina, 2015-04-21

Very friendly, close to fun restaurants (Peter's Cafe Sport). Has laundry and showers at marina. Full-service grocery within walking distance.

great people great stop, 2013-05-29
Captain: , miami,fl (2241)

after crossing the folks could not have been nicer -- in late may harbor full and rafting on reception quay and on breakwater were 3-4 deep - petes is a great place to have that 1st beer and celebrate - good shopping and nice little town - folks at mid atl marine chandlery could not have been more helpful - and guys at checkin can help folks for repairs -- overall what a great experience

Great value and great location., 2012-09-14
Captain: , Beaufort, NC (407)

After crossing 1800nm of the north Atlantic, the folks at Horta Marina make for an easy transition back to land. We arrived during the high season in May and the marina was packed with boats. During the time we were there, we were rafted 2-3 deep to the break wall. Obviously, they don't turn boats away, the rafting is part of the experience and is a great way to meet fellow sailors. Wonderful town, with lots of good restaurants, bars, and marine services (Mid Atlantic Yacht Services is located right across the street).

Great place to take a break., 2012-07-26
Captain: , New York (106)

Great protection at the floating docks, anchorage is rolly because of the ferries passing all day and night. $15.70 for a 39ft. Boat including power(220) and water. We were in the newer part (SW) where the big boats go normally. Good part we had a great slip, bad part long walk to nice toilets and showers. Very nice officials! Very busy this time of year many boats rafted up 2 or 3 deep. Good supermarket in walking distance easy access to boat supplies and services.
