Reviews for Homeport Marina
Top Shelf , 2017-06-18
Captain: , Ocean Springs, MS (132)

Home port Marina is a first class facility with everything you need and then some. The fuel dock is a breeze to get in and out of and the staff was very helpful. The marina itself is surrounded by high walls that blocks the wind from all directions, making docking simple in most any condition. Clean restrooms and showers, laundry and plenty of good restaurants nearby... in addition to Lulu's which is onsite.

Nice Quite Marina, 2017-06-11
Captain: , Merritt Island, FL (556)

We stayed there May 18-20, and again on June 6-7, 2017. The slips are well protected from wind, floating docks, very good condition, staff friendly, Lulu's restaurant not bad. The only odd thing is the location of the marina office, by the restaurant loading dock. I would stay here again.

Well Protected and Very Laid Back, 2017-05-20
Captain: , Galveston Texas (315)

We had winds pushing close to 20 kts during our stay but you'd hardly know it. The entire marina is surrounded by 10 - 12 ft stone walls that offer outstanding protection. All facilities were clean and well maintained. The staff was outstanding, offering to handle lines both arriving and departing. Like the other raters, the limited bath house facilities keeps me from awarding 5 stars. However, that said I would certainly look forward to returning.

nicely located, 2017-03-11
Captain: , Alabama (252)

Nice stop, nice docks, but dark at night. Not enough lighting on the docks. Have to around the whole marina to use facilities. Only 1 bathroom for each and a LARGE marina. It's like they don't want you use them. The office is hidden away behind other buildings, not easy to find. Lulu's restaurant is great.

Nice Stop on the GIWW, 2017-03-06
Captain: , Kemah Texas (389)

Nice marina right on the ICW. Well protected from wind in any direction. Floating docks are a little low in the water, not really a problem, just set your fenders low.

Getting in/out of the inside docks can be tricky on a mono, but easy on a cat.

Electricity is $10/day which seems a bit extreme for me.

Publix grocery store is 1.1 miles north of the marina, nice flat walk or easy bike ride.

Would not need to stop here again, 2016-11-03
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (2870)

The docks and power were quite nice. The baths/showers are not all that convenient from most slips and there is only one toilet/shower each for the ladies and men. In early Nov, there was one attendant on staff that did not answer the radio, so I had to telephone.

Our reason for stopping here was to have supper at LuLu's for the first time. If not for that, we would not have stopped. While the place is in great physical shape, no courtesy car or pool keeps the rating down to a three-star.

great facility, 2016-01-13
Captain: , Pass Christian, MS (50)

Very nice protected marina. Very nice people, styed 2 days, laundry, reasonable fuel, great food, shopping & live music every night at Lulu's.

Great protection, 2016-01-07
Captain: , Paducah KY (183)

The marina crew are very freindly and helpful. Wifi was a little slow but worked well most of the time. Pretty much a must stop when we pass back that way. The only downside would be as mentioned if you are on A dock it is a hike to the showers/bathhouse.

Good food and people, 2015-12-22
Captain: , Kemah, TX (202)

Heading east we came into Mobile Bay and our GPS died. We decided to push on up the ICW then the fog and darkness set in. We continued, narrowly missing many unlit channel markers, and finally came to the bridge. We made an immediate turn to port and were in the marina exhaling in gratitude. A little more expensive than we're used to but LULU's, Jimmy Buffets sister, has a restaurant with good food.

Fantastic service!, 2015-11-15
Captain: , Port Huron, MI (40)

This marina understands service and customer support! We had a complex maintenance issue arise during our refueling and the folks at Homeport spent hours to rectify the situation. we spent the night in the marina and enjoyed the meals at Lulu's. I will always make a point to refuel, stay, and dine at Homeport when I'm in the area.

good safe harbor, 2015-07-23
Captain: , Port Arthur, Tx (526)

Stayed 2 nights in heat wave mid july temp 98 degrees. had issue with power breaker not holding with a damaged plug on pedestal. notified office never saw them. wifi not working office said they were having trouble that it needed to be reset. never reset after notifying them twice. overall i would stay again resterant and entertainment great.

Not good for transients, 2015-05-30
Captain: , Cleveland, OH (344)

The two showers are 1/4 mile from where they put transients. $10 per night for 30 amp and 12% tax.

One of the best, 2015-04-16
Captain: , Orange Beach, AL (40)

We have kept our trawler at Homeport Marina over the past five years. The facilities and personnel are among the best we've seen in 30 years of cruising. Caution: Beware the tidal current in the GICW on entering and exiting as it can be quite a force acting perpendicular to the entry channel. Apart from that, Homeport is, even for large vessels, as easy to access as they come. Highest recommendation!

Great Place to Stay, 2015-04-12
Captain: , Kemah, TX (306)

We are repeat customers and recommend you give this marina a try. It has the added value of being adjacent to LuLu's restaurant.

Good Marina, Great People, 2015-03-30
Captain: , Homeport Marina, Gulf Shores, AL (45)

Homeport is a first rate facility with excellent staff. Craig and Ken are both good people and very helpful -- they're responsive, capable, and attentive to boater's needs. The residents at Homeport are a mix of live-aboards and part-timers, all friendly and happy boaters, and it's an active marina with a great community feeling. Lulu's is a nice extra benefit with good live music 7 days a week, good food (great gumbo and the blackened snapper is addictive), and activities for the young kids if they're with you.

We moved our boat here from Cinco Bayou, Choctawhatchee Bay, in June, 2014, and made it our marina home. The floating concrete docks offer good storm protection, the Internet and cable are better than average for marinas, the power is stable, and the restrooms and laundry are clean and easily accessible. But really, the people are the differentiating factor.

Nice Marina, but ---- with update, 2015-02-27
Captain: , Pensacola, FL (695)

Stayed here on 12 Feb 2015. Very nice Marina with nice clean bathrooms and nice floating docks. Extremely well protected. Due to the problems below we were contacted by Active Captain and told the Marina management read the review and would refund our stay. The Marina did so on 19 Feb. We assume the Marina management has addressed the problem and obviously customer service is important to them so anyone else visiting Homeport should not have the problem depicted below. It was a very nice Marina with a great restaurant and we will give them another try the next time we come by.
The issue we had was contacting the Marina as we approached. Called seven times during the day to check on our reservation that we made a couple of weeks ago and got no answer. Left a message twice asking them to call back and they never did. Called on the radio over and over again in the last hour before we got there and no response. A person docked in the Wharf Marina responded right after we passed there to let us know our radio was working.
Finally got an answer on the phone when the Marina was in sight. We wanted to verify our slip which we thought we had been told would be B-61. He Verified that we had a slip and it was suppose to be B-61. Asked if there would be any assistance tieing up and was told no because the guy said he was the only person there so could not come out and help (this is interesting later) Headed in and when we got to B-61 there was a boat in the slip. Tried to call the Marina on the phone and the radio and no answer. So, backed down the fairway until we found and open slip and tied up there and I went to find the Dock Master and find out what the deal was. Found him in the office and asked what slip I should be in. He went to some files and pulled them out and looked up our reservation and said we were suppose to be in B-60 so obviously when I finally got him on the phone earlier he did not verify the slip but just said yes. Luckily he said we could just stay in the slip we were already at. I asked why he was so hard to get on the phone and radio and his answer was that he was the only guy there and must have been down on the docks. Interesting since he told us he could not help with tieing up because he was the only one there. Note also there were no boats at the fuel dock as we approached and entered so we know he was not at the fuel dock. So guess we were just not important enough to help. Customer service is more important than a pretty place and nice docks.

Management response:
We are very sorry for your experience and are refunding your stay.

Overnight Stay, 2015-02-15
Captain: , Charleston, SC (60)

We arrived after hours. A manager at Lulu's put us in contact with the marina manager who went out of his way to answer our questions and to make us feel at home. It was a great stopping point after a long, tiring day. We would certainly stop in again, but we would also make sure to arrive after 8pm, and depart before 8am to avoid the heafty overnight docking fee we incurred.

Good place to ride out a storm, 2015-01-30
Captain: , Port Aransas, Texas (222)

This marina sits down in a depression. This offers great wind protection when you need it, but no view and the water smells terrible. $2/food ($1.50 with Boat US), plus an additional $10 for electricity. Staff was very friendly. Restaurant is overpriced with average food and service. Good grocery stores (Publix, Wal-Mart, and more) are a 1 mile walk.

Well protected, 2015-01-05
Captain: , Slidell, La. (1148)

Wide floating slips are easy in and out. Great WiFi Connection. Cable hookup's. Lulu's has good food and nice local beer selections. Good walk to the marina office which is located at the fuel dock on the east side of the resturant. Very nice locals, Even offered to take us to store for supplies.

good overnight stop, 2014-11-06
Captain: , Seabrook, TX (280)

Marina very well protected. Baths clean but only one male/female and one washer/dryer. LuLu's typical food. Very busy in summer. Only 30 people for a restaurant that serves over 3000 per day in the summer. Capt Craig at marina and dock mate Dave each gave us a ride to town to pick up stuff. Would stop there again

convenient fuel stop, 2014-08-12
Captain: , Ocean Spings Mississippi (225)

Very easy in and out at the fuel dock. Attendants were very friendly and helpful. Good service.

Wanderful marina, 2014-07-10
Captain: , Waterside marina (15)

We just bought Island Lady and are moored at Homeport Marina. The staff is wonderful and all ways there to help with anything and everything. The marina and the facility%u2019s there are very clean and the staff is on top of making sure of that. The people we have met there that are live aboards are some of the nicest and helpful people you will ever meet. We feel lucky to be a part of Homeport.

over priced and over rated, 2014-06-19
Captain: , MS Sound (284)

Nice docks, but poor lighting. Food not that great for the price and not worth the wait. Have to walk by garbage and kitchen overflow to get to office. Not much help or rather none at finding slip or secureing your vessel. A gift shop of nothing but JB stuff and overpriced. an oversized sand box to play in and $16 to play on a jungle gym. For $2/ft + $10 for power this is the most over priced marina in the area. Compare to Palafox($1.50/ft) or the Wharf (no comparison as far as ammenities).
Another hour east or west and you find better and at less. Last time I stop here.

Nice place with a good restaurant, 2014-03-21
Captain: , Chattanooga, TN (370)

Very nice marina even though they don't answer their phone. By calling Lulu's restaurant i got the cell phone number for Craig who assigned me a slip. Very nice and new facility though.

Great Folks, 2013-12-11
Captain: , Gulf Shores, AL (135)

Everyone at the marina is very helpful and friendly.

Entertaining, but spartan, 2013-09-07
Captain: , Galveston, TX (599)

Friendly and busy place. Okay food in interesting atmosphere, but most of the restaurant business comes in by car, not boat. Nearest grocery store is a mile away. Clean, not so well lit (don't walk off the bulkhead when heading back to the boat!), docks and facilities. Not a boat community so much as a dock near a Jimmy Buffett amusement park. Lots of stuff to do, with WiFi signal at the slip. Heads and showers. Fuel, pumpout, and ice on the opposite side of the restaurant. Get it on the way in or the way out. Dock carts available, if you want to do it by foot. Tried to find coffee in the morning. Nothing opens before 11am. Really? The marina is not the primary focus here.

Like a concrete bunker, 2013-06-22
Captain: , Mandeville, LA (53)

The marina consists of nice floating docks, surrounded by high retaining stone walls. Looks like a good place to hold up in during a storm. There are a couple of small elevators for handicapped access and heavy items. The staff was courteous and helpful. I fueled up at the fuel dock and took care of all of my transient business there. As we were leaving, a patron at LuLu's came down to help us shove off. It wasn't really necessary, but nice. that's also how we found all of the other tenants in the marina. Possibly the friendliest tenants we've come across along the gulf coast. Helping to catch dock lines etc. $2 per foot per night plus $10 for electric. I thought the electric was a little high.

Nice stop on a hot night, 2013-06-14
Captain: , Muskegon, MI (980)

We were very surprised that even though Lulu's attracts people from all over with 2 hour waits for dinner, this was a quiet marina. The showers were air conditioned and clean. We did not have help getting in our out of the slip. Outside of the person at the fuel dock we never did see any staff. Would not stay long term because of the traffic but a nice overnighter with a good dinner

Great Stopover - has everything you need, 2013-05-22
Captain: , Punta Gorda FL (1709)

this is a great place to stop. It has everything you need. Lulu's provides entertainment for all ages and average to good food. White sand beaches of the Gulf are two miles south. Excellent bicycle path, shopping, restaurants, waterparks, go kart tracks, golf courses, repair facitlties are all within a two mile radius. marina itself is an old hurricane hole that has been modernized and upgrades. Floating gocks and very helpful staff. Stayed for the Hangout Music Fest. What a party. Music fest or not, a great place to kick back and relax. 25% dockage discount for Boat US members.

Nice place after Mobile bay, 2013-04-03
Captain: , Phoenix, AZ (960)

Like this friendly marina, clean shower. Only 1 washer & dryer. Closer enough to town to bike to a target, movie, book store, grocery. If you want to see the gulf you can go over the bridge to Gulf Shores. It is totally designed for tourist, t-shirt shops, restaurants, outdoor activities.

Good place to stop after Mobile Bay, 2013-03-13
Captain: , Houston, TX (553)

Nice, clean, bullet-proof marina with floating docks, and a very friendly dock manager. Next to Lulu's, which was crowded with spring break crowd when we arrived, but still fun.

Great marina, 2013-03-13
Captain: , Charleston, SC (344)

Clean, great staff, great restaurant/bar. Very pleasant place.

Good Clean Marina, 2013-01-06
Captain: , Panama City, Florida (123)

Stayed at this marina for one day and night May, 2012. Great docking facility with floating docks. You have to check in outside the marina close to LuLu's restaurant. That's also where you get fuel and it houses a very small ship store. No one assisted us with docking in the slip. We used the laundry facilities and I thought they were very clean along with the bathrooms. I must say the only reason I'm giving this marina a three star rating instead of a four or five star is because the only thing to do there is eat at Lulu's Restaurant - which is FABULOUS. There was nothing in walking distance however I'm sure we could hail a cab. Would stay there again for sure. You won't be dissapointed with the facility itself.

Nice stop befoe and after Mobile Bay, 2012-11-13
Captain: , Tampa (190)

Great Marina and close to good food

Now this is a Marina, 2012-10-12
Captain: , Boca Raton, FL (1522)

It is so well built. You are highly protected from the 24 hour barge traffic but you still need to tie up tight to the really nice floating docks because when one of the big boys goes by, they can draw the water out of the bason and put it back in. Yeah, it's a little hike to LuLus but after sitting all day, I needed it. And... They have 4 Elevators so even though they say handicap only, if you have a cart full of supplies or the steps look to dangerous, they are there. The dockmaster is great. Requires that they handle the fueling from the dock... didn't mind a bit. Coming out of the marina into the channel, barges are not going to hear a horn, only the little boats with no enclosures and the bigies can't change course anyway so just enter the channel slowly to be safe. Also, the very first boat as you enter that has the huge rudder is owned by Harry and Vicki. They built the boat to travel and when they got here 3 years ago... well, the rest is history. Ask them about their boat. It is a fantastic story.

Got to Go To Lulu's, 2012-09-19
Captain: , punta gorda, fl (1448)

Excellent floating docks. Well protected basin. One male and one female head/shower. One washer and one one dryer. Lulu's restaurant (owned by Jimmy Buffet's sister) is at the marina. A bit of a hike from some slips to the baths or restaurant. Lulu's was a neat experience. Dockage was $1.50/foot
(w/boat US) plus electricity. But there was quite a bit of tax so the total cost with electric and tax ended up being close to $2/ft.

Location, location location, 2012-07-26
Captain: , Kemah, Texas (170)

Over-priced except for proximity to Lulu's. Fairways on the narrow side. A bit of a hike to the restrooms.

Captain: , gulfport ms (190)

Good slips,clean and modern

Home Port Marina, 2012-01-16
Captain: , Eagle Harbor, WA (471)

All Marinas should be built to these standards. There is only room for one in the restroom/shower but all is very clean and new looking. Narrow Entrance is immediately off the ICW so be prepared for the current as you are turning in and also for any vessels coming and going. AIS comes in very handy here when leaving to check for barge traffic. One loud blast as you enter the ICW fron the marina would be prudent for traffic on the ICW.

Next to Lulus, 2011-07-23
Captain: , Clear Lake (72)

The deck hands at the fillup where friendly, restrooms clean, and near a great restaurant.

Great Food and Music, 2011-06-08
Captain: , Elberta, AL (10)

Wonderful friendly staff! This is my regular fueling stop. No problems ever with diesel. Lulu's is touristy and hard to get in during tourist season but food is good and music is better! If you like Jimmy Buffet he does stop in when he's in the area!! Lots of things to do in the area but you need transportation.

Great layover, 2011-06-08
Captain: , Pensacola, FL (390)

Good facilities, floating docks. Lulu's was fun with live music. The only think wrong was caused by me. The docs look like they have a nice soft rubber siding. Beware that is not rubber and it will scrap a deep cut into your side. I assumed they were soft rubber and was wrong. Other than my own stupidity. Great time and great staff.

There is way more than Lulu's, 2010-12-26
Captain: , Channel Islands, California (1149)

We walked all the way down to the beach. Straight flat shot once over the bridge and heading south. There must be more than 30 different restaurants, three super markets, walmart, two pharmacies, liquor stores, a museum, etc. all within easy walking distance. The beach was beautiful. Also, there is an abundance of tatoo shops. This is a beach resort town and apparently, a favorite Spring Break location. There is a ton of stuff to do here.

Captain: , St. Ignace, Michigan (236)

Too bad we aren't staying for a year...$400/month annual rate right now...daily is $2.00 ft but with 25% /BOATUS Discount...Stainless Steel electric boxes...and the rest conforms...

You pay for the ability to go to Lulu's, 2010-10-25
Captain: , Stuart, Fl (435)

Very nice facility with good service, but the only place you can get to is lulu's restaurant. The most expensive marina we have stayed at in 2 months.

Homeport Marina, 2009-11-28
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1915)

A verynice facility. With BoatUS discount, dockage was $1.50/ft. $10.00/day for power. Marina is in excellent condition. Floating docks. Very protected. Lulu's Restaurant on the premises.

Great shelter from bad weather, 2009-11-10
Captain: , Red Wing, MN (384)

Had the good fortune to have a slip as Hurricane/Tropical storm Ida was approaching. Very sheltered and good quality floating docks and thorough staff in prepping for the bad weather

new, nice, but way OVER PRICED!!!!!, 2009-11-05

Long walk to anything, way overpriced for the area.

Rich mans stop.

Restaurant is great, 2008-08-20
Captain: , Chelsea,Al (83)

Have not used the marina but have eaten lots of good fried seafood at LuLu's. LuLu's is located right on the ICW and has dockage on the ICW. Usually a swift current.
