Reviews for Holland Marine
Excellent Hurricane Haul and Storage, 2016-10-10
Captain: , Green Cove Springs (10)

With Major Hurricane Matthew bearing down on us, we dithered about whether to absorb the expense of hauling out or try riding out the storm at the dock or at anchor. Matthew was due on Friday. On Wedesday we made the decision to haul out and contacted Holland Marine. They said they had a hurricane haulout list and that those boats would come first. However, they were able to accommodate our last minute request to haul on Wednesday afternoon. We had ample time to strip the canvas and sails and stow solar panels, propane tanks and all other objects we were afraid may loosen and become deadly missiles during the blow. We chose not to add the optional tie downs because where they placed the boat would be protected from the worst wind directions. Then we ran away. But Holland's crew didn't. They tended boats whose owners were in other countries, stripping canvas, etc., and the boats still at the docks were prepared and extra lines were added. The Holland crew stayed all through the hurricane, including ALL night, maintaining their docks and keeping an eye on all the boats both at the dock and onshore. These incredible guys also walked the docks at the marina next door that night, helping out unasked whenever they saw anything amiss or when a boater needed help. When we returned days later, we found that not a single boat at Holland Marine had sustained a scratch, including those riding out the storm at the dock. Our boat was blocked in by a few other boats, but when we asked if we could be launched that same day, they bent over backward to accommodate our request. I cannot say enough about how awesome Holland's crew is. We are very grateful to these knowldegable, competetent and caring men.

Great facility, 2016-06-05
Captain: , Olcott, NY (2536)

We came limping in with a number of serious drive train issues.
Joel Stewart, Stewart Marine (an authorized Yanmar dealer)operates his business in conjunction with Holland Marine.
We can not say enough good things about Joel's work ethic and professionalism.
In a job others had quoted 2 weeks work , Joel had it done in less than 8 days. His pricing was fair and not inflated by a learning curve that most mechanics foster on us.
If you have an engine problem, he is probably one of the best on the East Coast.
Tom Holland and his crew (Holland Marine) are exceptional. A full service yard, including storage, they are capable of anything you could need in the realm of boating.
The only downside is the distance to town. It is a very long hike for food and other items.
Home depot, walmart, Target are all at least 15 minutes by car.

Boat Launch, 2016-06-02
Captain: , Ensenada, BC MX (20)

Holland Marine launched my boat today. Professional and prompt service without issue. When I had some other side issues with things on my boat (not related to Holland Marine) Hal was quick to step in and give me the assistance he could. Will bring the boat back for haulout when I need some major refit items done.

Two Impressive Experiences, 2016-04-07
Captain: , New Orleans (651)

We had Holland Marine pull our engine and transmission so that we could rebuild them, then later they lowered them back into place. In both instances, our boat was handled by a very competent, friendly, focused and capable team. We could not have been more pleased.

Good facility to have work done., 2015-12-02

Worth a Trip, 2015-08-26
Captain: , Saint Augustine (170)

First of all let me say I am a repeat customer of Holland Marine. In April this year, I had my boat hauled out and the bottom painted, engine serviced, hull waxed and bimini re-stitched. The quality of service here is EXCELLENT. Tom Holland and Hal Rutherford are PROFESSIONALS and oversee every detail. While there I had an opportunity to meet several other repeat boating customers from Canada, Maine, and USVI. All have the same to say about this boatyard--EXCELLENT-RELIABLE-QUALITY work. They are a little out of the way but well worth the time and distance to ensure your investment is well taken care of at a reasonable price. The thing I am most impressed with is Hal gives you a written work order prior to work commencing that details everything you discuss with him and a estimated cost. Tom, owner, is alll about CUSTOMER SATISFACTION and if you leave the yard with an issue it is probably your fault because he makes evry effort to make things right. Can not say enough GOOD about these guys.

Uncomfortable Experience, 2015-08-23
Captain: , Rock Hall,md (90)

Quite simply the worst experience we have ever had bar none with a yard and owner in over 35 years of boating. I was warned but did not heed the warnings; one minute you are dealing with Jekyll the next Hyde. The most uncomfortable experience of our entire 35 year boating career.

Great Yard !!, 2015-08-07
Captain: , Vermilion, OH (144)

Although almost every previous review said it well, I will add my two cents. Needing some extensive repairs, I'm glad I took the short ride on the St Johns river to Holland Marine. Tom Holland and talented crew were extremely competent and completed all work in a first class manner. With very little overhead, Tom runs the yard very efficiently and the price was reasonable. When needed and if possible, I will definitely be a repeat customer!!

Excellent Service -Come Here & Get It Fixed Right, 2015-06-30
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, Fl (410)

After finishing the Great Loop in 2014 we came back to Holland Marina in June 2015 so Tom could fix what other Marinas along the Loop had messed up. From touch-up painting to shaft seals Tom Holland did what other marinas had failed to do-FIX THE PROBLEM! Sad to say but most of the Boatyards we & some of our fellow Loopers encountered along the Loop just seemed to fix the problem long enough for you to get so far away that when you realized it wasn%u2019t fixed, you couldn%u2019t go back. If you are looking for a reliable, ethical, and fair boatyard to do work we highly recommend Tom Holland Marina in Green Cove Springs. Its worth the trip off the ICW for peace of mind knowing the work will be done right the first time.

Holland Marine, 2015-03-18
Captain: , Chester. Nova Scotia (191)

I have, for the past few months, been meaning to write a review of work done by Holland Marine.
In December I had my engine replaced by Holland Marine and was pleasantly surprised by the work done by Toms efficient workers, under his personal supervision. I could not have asked for a better job, the installation is a showpiece. Joel, the mechanic did and excellent job and Toms pricing was spot-on, the finished job was within the price quoted. I would recommend Holland Marine for anyone requiring work is a little out of the way but in the end, well worth the side trip.

Exceeds expectations, 2015-03-13

Professional yard with the highest standards, 2015-03-04
Captain: , St. Thomas, USVI (20)

Can't say enough good things about this yard. We have had several jobs done by them and were completely satisfied. We found Tom and his crew to be honest and a pleasure to interact with. It is definitely worth the trip up the river to have work done here.

Great Boat Yard: Quality Work - Reasonable Price, 2014-05-28
Captain: , Hanover, PA (335)

Although it's a four hour trip up the St Johns River to get to this facility, it's time well spent. Tom Holland and his crew are experts in all areas of boat work. They sanded and painted the bottom, did extensive fiberglass repair on the hull, worked on the drive train and engines, changed out the house battery bank and repaired both heads. If you are passing by Jacksonville on the ICW, and need some work done, this is the place to get in done right.

Excellent knowledgeable staff and yard. Thank you Tom.

Our Personal Haul Out and Maintenance Experience, 2014-04-17
Captain: , Australia (137)

Our 47ft, 30 ton, 18ft beam trawler was hauled with ease in Holland's huge 65 ton white travel lift. The lift crew were careful and professional. Service personnel worked on our boat to our pleasant satisfaction. We initially had some hesitation about using Holland Marine based on some previous reviews. However we found Tom Holland and his crew to be extremely helpful and honest. We consider Holland Marine's boat work to be of a high standard. We will happily return to this facility for future haul out and boat work. We found Tom to be a typical small business owner, busy dealing with numerous business issues, some may see Tom's manner as rather direct. However we liked Tom's directness, we found he was not a salesman trying to gain unnecessary work, and Tom was happy to help us do our own boat work, including kindly lending us tools and a car during our time here.

Good service yard, 2013-08-30
Captain: , Oviedo, FL (200)

I will always go to Holland to step my mast. Awesome rigger on site and always been friendly to me.

Top Knotch paint job, 2013-01-27
Captain: , Clemson, SC (71)

I am lucky I had boat painted by Holland before reading previous review. Tom painted the hull last March. It looked so good that I decided to let him paint the window frames in February. Both jobs were charged by time and materials and were within budget.
I can send photos of quality work. email me at Bob Wiggins

Terrible and costly experience, 2012-07-11
Captain: , Los Angeles (40)

Expensive haul out, I had to get crane for lifting my mast, and when questioned his price, Tom Holland got defensive and refused to finish the transport to the Reynolds yard. Left me hanging with mast on the hard. My mast basicly was held for ransom($ only) and given 2 hrs to get it.Police were involved, but couldn't help(civil). Before deciding to go here, ask others or email me. The staff involved were quiet during this and one of them said he was sorry. From what I hear, it happens often.

Repower Very Well Done, 2012-03-19
Captain: , Mayport, FL, USA (317)

Stuart Marine is a tenant at Holland Marine. Removed crapped out Westerbeke, installed new Yanmar. Excellent work at good (not cheap) price.
Holland Marine hauled, blocked, launched boat, only problem was that the yard crew lost the tail of my topping lift inside the boom. Didn't bother to fix. Didn't bother to let me know. Keep an eye out.

Excellent work, fair prices, friendly staff, 2012-01-23
Captain: , Green Cove Springs (10)

I've been dealing with boatyards for a lifetime, from Maine to the Antilles. Once again Holland Marine has compared favorably to most, if not all of them, having performed a bottom job, painted my new Fighting Lady yellow whale stripe, replaced a rubrail and detailed deck and cockpit. Anyone southbound needing yard work would be well served to make a detour down the St. Johns to this yard.

Captain: , MONARCH. COLORADO (1156)

I was able to get my insurance compamy to approve this yard for storage over the winter and not increase my fees.

Captain: , Middleburg Florida (131)

Holland Marine Service, 2010-02-06
Captain: , Green Cove Springs (123)

Over the 3 years I have lived next to Holland Marine I have seen a number of boats that Tom Holland has worked on. In my option very poor workmenship. In one case I took a boat out after they did work on it and started taking on water faster than the pumps, I found the packing was not tighten.

Another was a Teak and Holly floor they installed that was very uneven and if you step on the bildge cover you would fall down in the bildge.

Outstanding Service., 2009-09-11
Captain: , ft myers beach (790)

We limped in after dinging a prop just after closing time. They "night security guy" helped us tie up and set up power. He called owner to let him know . Tom Holland, the owner, met us the next morning and hauled us out. Damage on prop too severe for quick turnaround. So while prop being fixed had him do some bottom and other work. Good prices and friendly staff. Tom even drove us to St Augustine to get a rental car. Would not hesitate to recommend this facility. Nothing really close by, so not a planned stop dock, but if you need repairs/haulout this is a great place.
