Reviews for Holiday Harbor
MDR Value Moorage, 2016-01-31

Stayed here for a few months. Holiday Harbor is a marina that is obviously on the chopping block for redevelopment. The businesses here are all closed and the marina is showing its age. There is a new condo building and marina going in across the street and it is obvious this section of MDR has under gone quite a transformation. I think the writing is on the wall for Holiday Harbor.

The management here are very friendly and quite accomodating. However, it is apparent that Holiday is being just "maintained," as the gates are operable, but not nice, and the bathrooms have a lot to be desired. For example, the ceiling of the mens rooms has caved in and was cleaned up, but not replaced. 15 amp electric on the dock was all that was available for my slip, where I wish I'd had 30. The municiple water had good pressure. The docks are spacious and solid. Each comes with a large dockbox.

The management offered me a differently slip in their already-new Dolphin Marina further down Panay Way. It came with better amenities and a much higher fee.

Why take the slip at Holiday? Simple economics: I didn't really need ammenities. I needed a secure place to leave the boat that was safe and a good value. Holiday Harbor is exactly that. At a flat rate of $500/month - no measuring, no muss, no fuss, no worries. I never had any issues with leaving my boat there. There seems to be a liveaboard on every dock who watches over things. And the view of MDR from Holiday Marina is the same as the much pricier ones, so the choice for me was obvious.

If I were a liveaboard or was able to spend more than a couple of weekends a month on the boat, then a nicer marina with better amenities would be justified. My girls would definitely be more happy in better bathrooms with more reliable hot water. But for the occational weekend aboard, I just couldn't justify the higher cost. Holiday Harbor is probably the best value for a slip in MDR.... as long as you don't need much. Plus, you are right next to restaurants and the Saturday Farmers Market. If you want to spend money in the area, there are plenty of opportunities to do so, rather than putting it all into slip rent. But if you need a shore-side bathroom with reliable hot water and plumbing or a security gate that isn't wired together with electrical wire, then you'll need to look elsewhere.

I'm rating Holiday Harbor at 3 stars, simply on the basis of the condition of their amenities. This definitely isn't a 5-star luxury experience. Based on that alone, the rating would be lower. However, because of their value and their management, they actually gain extra points. I'd definitely return here without reservation in the future. I had a great stay.
