Reviews for Hinckley Yacht Services - Southwest Harbor
First Class Service - Great staff, 2017-08-24
Captain: , Saint John (93)

We stayed here for three days... Great service, clean showers (New showers this year), and just a short walk to the free bus service.

Busy harbor with easy access to Acadia, 2017-02-28
Captain: , Brookline NH (80)

We stayed here in August 2016 and had a mooring pretty far out. It's not very protected and there is a lot of working boat traffic. So it can be pretty rolly at times, but the harbor and the boat traffic settles down at night. The inner town dock has a free dinghy dock and is about a 1 minute walk to catch the free bus service that will take you all over the island.

A Mixed Review, 2016-08-15
Captain: , Saint Michaels (320)

We have mixed feelings on this place.
This may well be a superb place to get repairs done. The staff is helpful. You are an easy walk to the bus stop. If you are a Hinkley owner you can buy goodies. I have no complaints about the staff or the moorings.... though you will get rocked at times.
We came here because an eroneous website said you could not get a bus from NE Harbor to Acadia Park. (You can and it is easier.) There is no welcome packet with bus schedules or whatever. The bus schedule is not posted. The heads and showers were not up to what I would expect to be Hinkley standards. They do not compare to the ones in NE Harbor or L M Wayfarer for example.
Getting groceries is not easy unless you can time the bus.

Very helpful, nice facility , 2016-08-08
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (283)

Arrived around 5p, closing time but, they still came out in their dinghy to help us find an available mooring ball; lots of bouys in this harbor. They also left the freezer open so we could get some ice after hours. They have a large floating dock for water and pump out along with laundry and showers that are easily accessible via a large dinghy dock.

Friendly service, 2015-08-21
Captain: , Cassiopea A (507)

The moorings are on the Manset side of the harbor, so a little far from the center of town. Not a problem in settled weather with a dinghy with an outboard. Wakes from passing boats can be a problem.

The dockmaster was very nice and friendly, although she was quite busy.

Showers are clean, but a little worn out. Only one bathroom.

The XYZ restaurant in Manset is very good.

Mooring field, 2014-09-02
Captain: , Galesville, MD (1341)

The moorings towards the outside of the mooring field can be pretty lumpy and rolly if you have any weather. Not much protection. See if you can get a mooring closer in. Services and staff were fine.

Walkers Resturant a short walk on Shore Rd. had great food and friendly service. Excellent blueberry pie!

First Class, 2013-09-29
Captain: , Texas (465)

This is a first class facility. Moorings only, but can use dock for fuel and water. Good showers and laundry facility. We had transmission replaced here. Machine shop quickly fabricated part that was incorrect on new transmission coupling. This yard can do it all. Can catch Island Explorer bus from street to Bar Harbor, etc.

Convenient, efficient, professional., 2012-08-28
Captain: , Annapolis (451)

Needed a place to get some nasty work done on the head. Contacted several places in Southwest and decided on Hinkley Yard.
Great decision!! The staff was helpful, professional, and efficient. The facilities were clean and convenient. Mooring field close to dock, but rolly. Not their fault! short walk to town, or get the free bus to EVERYWHERE! Southwest has limited pricey provisioning, but a great library.

Very accommodating facility, 2012-08-16
Captain: , Pasadena, MD (1496)

Dockage is very limited. Hinckley has many transient moorings in the harbor. The harbor is very rocky/rolly with wakes virtually constant all day. The facility has just 2 washers and dryers, and toilets/showers. The facility is aging, but OK. The dock crew is superb. In the early morning, when things were quiet, the dock mistress offered to take us to the IGA in town for groceries, and she waited to bring us back. The parts staff was extremely helpful. This is a business to which I would return. There is a West Marine stre on the grounds at Dysart's Greta Harbor, at the end of the harbor. There is a shuttle bus service that is available from many points around the harbor. The bus is free, and provides access to all of Mt. Desert Island.

Great Place, and simply due to workmanship, 2012-08-07
Captain: , Muskegon, MI (3132)

We nearly didn't stop here, because of the comment about the showers in the "services" section. Well, I don't know if they built a new bath house recently or not, but there is NOTHING wrong with the facilities here!

Excellent Place to Hole Up for Acadia, 2012-08-05
Captain: , Cleveland, OHio (421)

We were looking for a place to moor our boat for a two week trip by car to Canada. Found Hinckley, had everthing we needed for four small repair jobs and a great place to leave High Spirits.

Want to thank Mark in Service, Sean the dockmaster, and Matt who fixed some elecrical problems that were beyond our
amatuer status.

If you are coming by boat to Acadia, this is where you should stay. Shuttle bus #7 stops at the yard and will take you for free to Visitors Center. Acadia is a great place to unwind when you
need to get off the boat for a break.

Hinckley is where to put your boat while you tour Acadia.

excellent attitude, 2011-09-14
Captain: , newburyport (183)

very accommodating people all around! treated as guests very pleasant and fun to deal with, even when making small purchases like propane and filling water tanks. their showers, laundry and heads are first class. and they have a wide selection if mooring areas.

Very convienent, 2010-08-22
Captain: , Milford CT (658)

Our Little Harbor spends the winter at Hinckley RI so the service manager can ship parts to Hinckley SW harbor when we are in Maine. This has saved a cruise twice. Water, fuel and pump out on the dock.

Best Marine Service Yard in Maine., 2010-05-19
Captain: , southwest harbor (59)

Nothing looks better than a Hinckley crusing up Sommes Sound, Mount Desert Island, or tender to a mega yacht in the Caribbean. Over the past 5 years first hand reports have been that the quality of service and value for money is excellant at this boat yard in Southwest Harbor.

Hinckley Service, 2010-04-15
Captain: , Southwest Harbor, ME (207)

This yard has some of the finest and most experienced boat repair guys anywhere in Maine. They can build a boat or repair it equally well. Facilities include Paint shop, machine shop, mechanics shop, fiberglass shop, storage, rigging, hauling, electronics, marine engineering. It is expensive, but efficient and they are pretty good about taking in transient emergency situations, and deliver on time.

Excellent service, 2009-02-19
Captain: , Poughkeepsie, NY (6077)

They will take care of any boat problem, just be prepared with your credit card! They are not cheap!

Excellent Transient Service, 2008-07-14
Captain: , Saint Petersburg, FL (181)

Hinckley does more than just Hinckley. They serviced our Lehman 135 overheating problem quickly and expertly.
