Reviews for Hinckley Yacht Services - Savannah
Hinckley Savannah did great job painting the topsides and deck of my 2001 Alerion Express 28., 2017-01-04
Captain: , Savannah (10)

And they solved a big problem for me. Apparently, some J boats and Alerions built by TPI around 2001 have developed significant crazing in the gelcoat.

For many years, I had only minor crazing, but about 11 years after launch the crazing became a spider web on the deck, including the nonskid. Somewhere along the line I read about some decks delaminating. After some research, it became clear to me that I needed to fix the boat or sell her. To do nothing was not a choice.

Hinckley had commissioned the boat in 2004 when I brought her to Savannah and had since then been reliable and thorough on routine maintenance. So I engaged Tom Eve to survey the boat for moisture. With acceptable readings in hand Tom and I met with Dustin Hartley, Paul Hughes and John who manages the painting operation. It was a candid discussion with a credible plan to aggressively sand, stabilize the remainng layer of gelcoat, and paint. Hinckley then gave me a competitive price. After a few days of weighing the options--make a significan investment in the boat or sell at a deep discount and hope to find another boat withn my price range that sailed as well--I decided to keep the boat.

Over the next weeks , I watched as teak was taped, deck fittings were removed, and THE SANDING began. After days of sanding, the boat looked as though she had been skinned. But the surface was smooth, no cracks. Over the next weeks I was heartened with the attention to detail and care as the boat came back to life. Most important to me was the open and honest communication with everyone involved in the project.

Now I have a boat that is once again the eye-catcher she was when I first saw her. I could not be happier with the level of service and craftmanship I experience at Hinckley.

Unbeatable service - very competent and fast, 2016-11-01
Captain: , Poughkeepsie, NY (6077)

I have always had a good experience with Hinckley and one thing I've learned is not to focus so much on labor charge per hour but rather on total cost. I had a rear seal replaced on my Volvo diesel and the estimates from other marinas with a lower labor rate were higher than the total bill from Hinckley. The difference was in the expertise of the crew. They solved problems faster and did work quicker than other marinas and the work was always outstanding.

So when I have a problem, I first look for the nearest Hinckley marina, they guarantee their work up and down the east coast.

Truly Extraordinary Service!, 2016-10-15
Captain: , Dawsonville (30)

This is our second thoroughly enjoyable experience at Hinckley-Savannah since we first came here for repairs and maintenance back in 2009. We just left the yard a few days ago and Dustin Hartley and his crew again performed beyond our high expectations! This yard is staffed by seasoned professionals who have been working together for years. We had some fairly complex painting and fiberglass work done, bottom and running gear paint, an electronics installation and tune-up, mechanical work on our generator and some sophisicated canvas work completed over a period of 4 weeks. The quality of all the work was superb. The courtesy shown us by each of Dustin's crew was inspiring - almost every one of the guys expressed his thanks to me at one point or another during our stay for bringing our boat to their yard. From a pricing point of view, this yard provides high quality for a fair price. Hinckley's not a bargain yard but if you want things done right, you'll be well served by having it done professionally by these experts.
The marina is small and well maintained with plenty of depth (and current) and a long face dock right on the ICW. The restroom and shower facilities are compact but clean. Certainly not a resort destination but a good place to stop over after/before transitting the Georgia portion of the ICW.

We have heard from Dustin who has confirmed that the docks were washed away in the storm. They have recovered all of the docks and are working to installed them. They hope to be operational again before long.

Wonderful experience. Professional, friendly, quality oriented., 2016-06-14
Captain: , Dog Island (10)

Manager Dustin Hartley and his team are the best! Had our boat in their yard for several months for numerous projects and they did a great job. They were patient, professional, and quality oriented. I look forward to returning to Thunderbolt and being spoiled again by Paul, Drew and the rest of the Hinckley gang.

Long Expensive stay, 2016-06-07
Captain: , Aiken (30)

My 33 foot Grady White Caught fire in Hilton Head January 2015. My surveyor recommended a few facilities with Hinckley being one of them. I chose Hinckley based on their name and reputation. after close to 70 thousand dollars and two service writers later I was told my boat would be ready for pickup on March 19 2016. I had visited the marina the prior Wednesday to make sure we were still on schedule. I was told by my service writer we were. He advised me that he didnt want me to look at the boat as it had not been datailed yet and he wanted me to see it when it was finished. I delivered all of the interior cushions which I had refurbished by Rainbow in Hilton Head so that they could place them on board. Then I made the customary arrangements one makes when moving a boat (it was going to charleston). I obtained a ride from my car in Charleston to my boat (2.5 hours) obtained childcare for my children, boarded my dogs, obtained a hotel room in Charleston for the next night etc. When my wife and I arrived at the boat Saturday AM, it was obvious nothing had been done. The rear bench seat was missing, The helm had a hole in it covered in black duct tape. there were no cushions on board (interior or exterior) and the boat was filthy. water was standing on the teak/holly cabin floor leaving a mildew stain that I have been told they could do nothing more about. I found a worker in the yard who let me into their storage room where i found all of the interior cushions where I left them and all of the exterior cushions in Garbage bags where I assumed they lived for a year and a half due to the amount of dry rot comig from them now. I advised my surveyor I would not be picking up my boat and would like to meet with him and the yard manager the following week. The yard manager told me he was sorry and would take care of everything. My childcare and pet boardiing were already paid for. The hotel was non refundable and we had to drive to Charleston then to Hilton Head that night. Needless to say I was quite upset. When I met with the yard manager and the surveyor the following week, I brought a friend with me who is knowledgable in boats as he rebuilds Boston Whalers. When he pointed out some scratches on the Transom, the yard manager asked "Who are you buddy". My buddy soon after found that they had insulated my fishbox which is large and encompases most of my transon with open cell foam insulation. This sits right over my batteries and generator. I was told that they were sorry and would fix everything. I was told our target date would now be May 20. I showed up on May 18th for a sea trial. During this trial We found several things that had not been repaired. Windlass did not work, spotlight did not work, missing screws in freezer plates and several other small items. I had hired an independant surveyor by now as I did not feel that I had anyone looking out for my interests. My surveyor advised me to give them two more weeks and he thought they would have it done. I finally picked my boat up on June 2nd 2016. i had to pay just north of 13k to leave the marina. I am still awaiting my insurance company to reimburse me for a large portion of my expenses. The boat looked great when I arrived. The only small items I noticed were a gas shock on my fish box not present which I was told I could order or get at west marine. Also, the mounting pieces around my autopilot and a screw mounting my autopilot were missing. I was told they were under the assumption I was making that repair myself also. (i agreed to everything as I wanted out of there). The ride to Charleston was smooth however when I got there and trimmed my engines up I noticed a heavy scum and some growth from the waterline down. I emailed and asked how long they had been lowered in the water and was told 1-1.5 weeks. As of today, the starboard engine will not flush with fresh water also, the coolant container for my diesel generator was empty. I refilled it and ran the generator some more and it sucked it dry, I did it once more and it seems to have leveled out so hopefully they had just not cycled it through. I will see if it needs attention when I return to the boat this Thursday. Also my autopilot is not working. I was told by my insurance company, Pantaneus, that I would need their approval before having a technician look at it. This yard is probably great if you have a Hinckley or a small mechanical problem, but I wold have to steer anyone with major repair issues away from this yard. If you are satisfied with sorry's, this may be the place for you, but frankly i got sick of them and found them to to be quite expensive. As far a customer service, one exchange I had with the yard manager summed it all up. When discussing my first delivery I told him how I was expecting to find my boat in great condition with maybe a couple Hinckley Koozies and a thank you note. His response was "I don't do thank you notes"

Management response:
I thank Mr. Coker Day for taking the time to write a review. Our goal at Hinckley is to always provide the best service experience possible. It is clear that in this case we fell short and for that I am very sorry. All boater interactions, even our less than positive ones, are opportunities to learn and become better. great working boatyard, 2016-06-07
Captain: , Lighthouse Point, Fl (320)

Called day before and Drew made the last space for our 65 ft Fairline. A few gentlemen came down to the dock to help with tie up. We needed a few things fixed and the generator to get running properly. They asked me to give them a day to look at the problems...true to their word they diagnosed the problem and had it up and running in 2 day. Bob was my mechanic and he was happy to explain to me what he was doing. Really everyone was great. Loaner car as well to take down to Savannah to explore. Look if you want all the amenities this is not the place...if you want great mechanics this is the place.

This is a working yard that has services for transients. Good bathroom and showers. Very polite and attentive staff. Very private and secure. Will stop again.

top notch service, 2016-02-08
Captain: , Shelburne, VT (120)

To put it simply... Hinkley Yacht services will let you know the best way to fix any boat issue you might have. Quality work at fair price. We do not have a million dollar boat but I feel we received the same service as any of the many Hinckley boats there. This quality means it can get busy at peak season so plan and call ahead to reserve storage or service. We have summer dry stored for 3 years with no issues. They inspect the boat about every month or so and send pictures and a report on their observations.

we stopped to get our props straightened but our list kept growing as we experienced the professional, friendly, and extremely well qualified Hinckley staff. we stayed 3 months made easy with the available courtesy car. We have done the loop, up and down the east coast and the Bahamas and Hinckley is our new go to yard. a special thumbs up to Dustin, Drew, Tom, Michele and all the others at Hinckley. Very Fortunate Outcome!!!!, 2015-11-29
Captain: , Longboat Key, Florida (20)

If we could give them 6 stars we certainly would!

We got hit by lightning the 1st week of June while docked across the river at Savannah Bend. All our navigation, electronics, and most electrical equipment were damaged. (There is a good reason the town is called Thunderbolt). The following morning my husband rode across in the dingy and Paul & Dustin invited us to come over and talk about repairs.

It's now November, we are on our way again and we can honestly say this boat yard & the people who run it & work there exceeded our expectations 100%

Based on our experience we can say that the entire team are top notch. We worked closely with our service manager, Paul and head electrician, Michel who completed the 85k refit of the electrical & navigation systems. Additionally, we had to replace the refrigeration and A/C, inverter, radios, navigation pod, breaker panels...and while we were at it - seeing the fine craftsmanship we had at our disposal - we had the hull & top sides polished, bottom painted and new boot, trim stripe and lettering applied.

So, considering the extent of the job, we were very favorably impressed with how smoothly everything went and how well they interfaced with us, the insurance adjuster and the various people performing the work. Aside from all that, they are just really nice people which always helps!

We obviously couldn't be on the boat the entire time but during the time we were living on board we found everyone to be friendly, helpful & professional. They have clean bathrooms with a shower and a refrigerator in the office you can borrow short term. It's possible to borrow their truck and nearby is everything you'd need including Home Depot, whole foods, target, CVS, Spin City laundromat, a number of restaurants , etc. Also, now with Über, it's not too expensive or difficult to get into Savannah.

We really can't say enough great things about Hinckley Savannah and their super high quality craftsmanship! Because of this, what could have easily turned into a nightmare situation became one of the best things that could have happened to us!

A Truly Class Act, 2015-11-17
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1025)

We had a minor problem with our VHF that was driving me batty. Initially we went to Beaufort to get it fixed, but there was apparently no one in town who could help. We called ahead to Hinckley and, though there were almost full, they found room for us. The next AM we got bumped in priority a couple of times, but by late morning, Michel showed up, spent an hour on our radio, fixed it and sent us on our way. The total cost was an hour of Michel's time -- there was no cost for the slip because of the "priority bumping." Hinckley showed us, once again, that they know what customer service is all about.

Captain: , Tuckerton NJ (20)

Having alternator problems coming down Calibogue Sound I started calling marinas for dockage to get it fixed. All the marinas in the area were full, but Drew took my number and said he would see what he could do. I was just past Thunderbolt when he called back to say that since I was a small boat with a big problem, they would squeeze me in. Michel came to the boat that afternoon, removed the alt., sent it out to be rebuilt, then reinstalled it the next day. Thanks to Paul, Drew and Michel,, we were down only one day. And oh yes, the pricing was extremely fair. Thanks, guys

Captain: , Boston (100)

This boatyard has excellent service without any attitude. The people are knowledgable about boating and boat maintenance. We stopped here to visit Savannah and have our refrigeration fixed. When we arrived the part was here and it was fixed within the day- thanks to Michel. Drew was amazing. He gave us help with planning our next destination, gave us sightseeing and restaurant recommendations and even taught us how to use "Active Captain." Paul, the customer service manager, introduced himself when we arrived and was also very helpful. Everyone here is so welcoming and friendly. As an added bonus, they have a truck with they let visitors use. We highly recommend.

Needed to have a little maintenance done on the steering and Hinckley was very accommodating. Paul was terrific. Greg who did the work was quick and efficient. Rest of the staff very friendly. Stayed two nights. Restaurants and marine supplies close. Also close to Savannah by taxi which was a treat. Great convenient stop.

So disappointed, 2015-06-08
Captain: , Pensacola,Fl (110)

Based on other reviews we chose Hinckley to do both maintenance and optional cosmetic work. While Amy and the other staff were very nice people, the staff is overworked and several key people have left. Communication was poor and our work was delayed because they didn't have the staff to do it. A month went by before we even had appropriate estimates. We kept reducing the amount of work to be done; ultimately it still took 2 months to get basic engine service, props serviced and new batteries installed. At one point they sent a gasoline mechanic to work on our diesels - he admitted to no diesel experience. Eventually they hired a subcontractor to do the work. We are satisfied with the work - but it took two additional months to get the bill - which is about 25% higher than we expected. There was no charge for the 2 months of dockage, which was nice, but we do not recommend this place.

Excellent yard!!!, 2015-06-04
Captain: , Ft. Lauderdale (1164)

Spent three nights there recently for repairs. Paul and Amy are the best. Paul stayed in touch and on top of the projects. Yard personnell and outside contractors competent and pleasant to have aboard. They lent me the parts truck to run errands. Can't say enough good things.

It is a yard not a marina. Docks could use some attention.

Life saver, 2015-02-28
Captain: , Hampton, VA (271)

Came in through Wassa Sound and reached here about 1AM. No marinas open at this time but Hinckley had about 200ft of empty face dock, I was solo and the current was strong but was able to get tied up for the night. I could have taken off in the morning but I'm not like that. Went to the office and they said if I stayed one more night that's all they would charge me for. I stayed a week.

Great stop, 2014-12-08
Captain: , Nashville, TN (320)

Amy was awesome. The floating docks are easy on and easy off. The place is a boat yard and not a resort but it's clean and you can walk to Tortuga's for a nice meal. The shower was hot and we didn't need laundry so I can't say anything about that. But... if you're headed through Savannah, Give Amy a call.

Captain: , San Francisco, CA (211)

Thanks to Dustin, Amy, Mark and the staff.

Our MY needed a new windlass and diesel servicing. By phone I arranged to come in on a Sunday, meet briefly Monday morning and then return in two weeks to pickup the boat. Friday afterrnoon Amy called to offer use of their yard pickup over the weekend and give instructions to obtain the keys if needed. Monday morning here come Dustin and Mark (Dustin brought donuts), we discussed the work, they made some suggestions and we left for home in Florida. Two weeks later we come back to a boat ready to go. They didn't bill my credit card until I had reviewed the work. What a pleasure!

I would go out of my way to have future work done at Hinckley Thunderbolt. Thank You, Ladies & Gentlemen

Had two projects done to my 40' catamaran. Both well done but a part was going to take 5 days to arrive. We were provided free dockage and the use of a car after hours. We felt they took good care of us and the free dockage made the price reasonable. Ami treated us very well. We plan on giving them more work on our way back south.

We used Active Captain to choose a place to leave our boat for a year and we can verify everything good that has been said about this place.

The people who work there are helpful and know what they are doing, unlike other places we have had to use. They understand that if you have a problem you want it fixed in the shortest possible time.

I would recommend this place to enyone as I know that they will be looked after by a friendly team of experts.

10+ Stars, Best Service on the ICW, 2014-04-08
Captain: , mystic, Ct (155)

We highly recommend the Hinckely Yard. We made an unplanned/emergency stop for one of fresh water pumps seized on the engine. The staff was very accommodating, very professional and friendly. Danny the mechanic was down on the dock within a 1/2 hour of our arrival and ordered the parts all before we even signed in, now that's service. And the yard bill was very, very reasonable.

Amy,the service manager, was so helpful and gave us pointers on where to shop, have dinner, etc. They even allowed us to use the marina's truck to get supplies.

We would definitely stop here again. We give the Hinckley Yacht Services 10+ stars. Good old southern hospitality.

Few amities but OL for overnight, 2014-01-04
Captain: , Stuart FL (835)

Stopped at boat yard as we were North
bound. Least expensive place we found in Savannah at $1.2/ft.

Ditto to most other reviews. The Bonaventure cemetary about a 20 minute walk and beautiful but it closes at 5:00!! so for late arrivers it may not be an option. The docks were petty dirty with bird "stuff" but as is a working yard a forgiveable offense .
If you arrive late you will probably be on your own in docking since most of staff leave at 4:00pm. However with the long face dock that will not be a problem unless you are at max current aand have a lot of boats there. Perhaps then other boaters will help.

When I went to connect electrical I noticed the ground connection on the 50 amp plug was very corroded. Was concerned that it might have higher resistance but all was OK and had no electrical problems

Will certainly stay again.

We were recomended this yard as a safe place to store our 47 foot North Wind sailboat during hurricane season. The crane handeling were superb. We had the antifouling and some small repairs done to our full satisfaction. But what we remember most was all the helpful and friendly people we met.

Five Stars again!, 2013-11-30
Captain: , London, UK (339)

Hinckley gets 5 stars again from Alexia (Hallberg Rassy 42 sailboat) as their team at Thunderbolt continues to provide first class service. We cannot recommend them highly enough.

We arrived at a busy time with the dock full of boats needing work and they solved our problems quickly and efficiently. The bill came to less than expected.

Thank you Hinckley!

Expectations Exceeded, 2013-11-20
Captain: , wilmington, nc (41)

Before our arrival on the trek southward, we had decided, absent the reviews of HYS by others, Hinckley made sense for a planned refit of our electrical system. Now that the job is complete, we can offer an appraisal of the experience. In a word: excellence.

From manager (Dustin Hartely) to every man and woman with whom we had contact the HYS team projected knowledge, caring, and competence.

In our case they listened to our definition of the problem and our expectations. Then they analyzed the situation prior to advancing a plan. After verbal agreement on what needed to be done we had a budget and schedule before us.

Several trades were involved in the project. That sounds, and is, too abstract. We had the privilege of meeting a number of different members of the HYS team as they came aboard to execute the plan. They treated the boat as if it were our home it is. They shared knowledge while ably doing their respective tasks. Office staff tolerated, with smiles, our occasional need for better wI fi service our loan of a car. In short, we met new friends who happened to be getting a complicated bit of interdisciplinary work done on our boat.

We would commend HYS to anyone seeking high quality marine services.

Another 5 Star Rating, 2013-09-14
Captain: , Portsmouth, NH (274)

We were having problems with both engines stalling and really no idea what the problem was. After a phone call to Dustin, the general manger at HYS, he arranged for John Deere mechanics to met us at the yard. We were secured at their dock for several days before the mechanics could get there. In the meantime, Bob the Hinckley mechanic, came aboard and identified the problem as the cutlass bearings. We were hauled out the next day, canceled the call to the JD mechanics and Hinckley Yacht Services took care of everything. I can't imagine having a better experience. We were given updates on the progress and the timetable several times a day. Every member of the Hinckley staff that we met was friendly and spoke highly of the yard and their employment. No disgruntled workers here. It showed in their work and the environment. The yard is very organized and well kept. All the work on our trawler was exceptional from the start to the sea trial. HYS offers nothing but professional and timely service.

Captain: , Nashville (30)

I needed to install a new chartplotter and get new bottom paint. I scheduled service for a particular date but was delayed due to weather. Dustin, the general manager, was very understanding and assured me that weather permitting he will get us in the shop as soon as possible. We arrived on the weekend in off business hours. Per telephone conversation we tied up to their dock to await their opoening on Monday. We were hauled out early Monday morning. The results of their work exceeded my expectations and services were completed within estimates. Hinckley provided dockage while several fronts moved through after servicing our boat. We stayed at their dock and they provied a truck was for us to run several errands. The entire staff was courteous and made us welcome and feel at home. Give Hinckley a try for your service needs. You will be very glad you did.

GREAT Service, 2013-03-18
Captain: , Port Royal, SC (231)

Dustin Hartley and his Hinckley crew just finished painting the hull on my 1988 DeFever 53 POC, as well as the bottom. It looks like a new boat, and the services they did on sanitizing potable water tanks and changing oil and fuel filters on mains and gens was done extremely well. Great people and the price was true to the estimate. I will sing their praises and go bakc there when I need services in the future. Thanks Dustin and crew.

Very professional & friendly, 2013-03-05

Great repair service along Georgia ICW, 2013-02-19
Captain: , Epilogue (326)

Too often we complain loudly but keep our good experiences to ourselves...I managed to bend our rudder on our Kadey Krogen 42 on our way south on the ICW in lower SC (long story) so stopped at Hinckley Yacht Services in Savannah right on the ICW. I had emailed the yard manager, Dustin Hartley, on Sunday and he responded almost immediately. We expected to get there at around 10 on Monday; slack water (necessary for haul out) was indicated to be at 10:08. We arrived at their easily accessible floating face dock a few minutes after 10.  They were waiting for us on the dock, and hauled us almost immediately. The rudder was bent and had been dislocated from the shoe which was loose. They removed the rudder and shoe, straightened the rudder and re-secured the shoe and had their work ready by Thursday...actually late Wednesday. They also dealt with a couple of electrical gremlins that had crept in and found the problems to be very minor and made the corrections promptly. We then had needed routine service done to our stabilizers by an outside (but nearby) "expert".Everyone I encountered or who worked on the boat were top notch...excellent service from a yard small enough to deliver personal service and with with very capable, well trained technicians. This is not our first visit to Hinckley Savannah. 2 years ago, we were cruising north on the ICW on our way home from Bahamas and had transmission problems (another long story). We received the same prompt, expert, friendly service. Savannah is not a bad place to be shipwrecked! Enterprise is nearby and delivers.I should disclose that I sold my boatyard in Oxford MD to Hinckley in 2003. Two things are significant about this: One: during my 25 years there, I learned what truly good service is and gained an apprreciation for skilled, well trained technicians. And two: I may have received special service, but I think (judging from other reviews in Active Captain) that they would respond to anyone in need with the same great service and enthusiasm.

Where to go when the motor don't, 2012-12-07
Captain: , Toronto (29)

Off of Port Royal Sound, took big following wave coincindental with the prop turning the in-gear engine, and got water in the cylinders. Clunk. Three bent rods on the Beta.
Hinckley took a thoughtful, professional and successful approach to saving the engine. We couldn't have asked for better quality; the price was not trivial but completely reasonable. The entire staff was unfailingly courteous and supportive during our 10 day stay.
Bravo Zulu to Dustin, their manager, and Bob, the diesel guru, who executed the repair.

Loving the Hinckley experience..., 2012-11-30
Captain: , MV Red Head (61778)

Being from Maine, we've known the Hinckley name forever. But over the last couple of years we've gotten to know the 7 Hinckley Yacht Services organizations spread out along the east coast. Until our affiliation, I didn't know they did service work on boats other than Hinckley. So I wanted to experience it all myself. For real.

I contacted Dustin this summer with a list of bi-annual maintenance items I needed done for my engines. These were the types of things that I can't do myself because of special tools or experience needed. It's been 3+ years since a real mechanic touched my engines and I wanted a pro to look everything over. Dustin gave me confidence that they could do everything I needed.

Pulling into the facility in Savannah, I already had high expectations. I wasn't going to be easy to impress. But I have to say that they over-delivered. I'll give one specific example...

One of the things I had done was a full cleaning of both heat exchangers. It was done perfectly. To be fair, I expected that. What I didn't expect was a knock on the door to have me come over to the shop (usually not a good thing). It seems that the mechanic had noticed a cracked bracket supporting a raw water intake, took it off, and had already welded it. We didn't need to go through a process about it - it was needed and they just did it. It made me feel like they were looking out for me.

We were on site for a few days and spent time walking around. I got to see work in process and things that were completed. The quality is exceptional. It really is.

So bill time came. This was part of what I really wanted to see too. The final bill was totally fair and real. I know how many hours they worked. The rates were definitely not the most expensive I've paid and the total job was less than I've paid before. Factor in that the work was done exceptionally well including fixes to problems I didn't know I had, and you've got to find yourself loving the Hinckley service group.

There is no question that I'll be back. A friend who had been here earlier told me that the worst thing about getting work done at Hinckley is that you won't be able to go anywhere else ever again. I totally get that now.

Terrific yard. Top quality work, fair prices, friendly staff.
Marina facilities somewhat limited / primitive.

Best Bang For The Buck!!., 2012-10-21
Captain: , Charleston SC (805)

We contacted 7 yards for competitive bids for our annual haul out. Reduced to cost per foot Hinkley was mid point but after discussions with Gebel Seese, Hinkley Service Manager we felt Hinkley offered the best value in terms of experience, skills and materials.
We are not disapointed. Top quality work completed on time and within budget. The preperation of the bottom prior to painting was outstanding the best we have experienced in 40 years of hauling boats.
We lived aboard durring the haul out and found facilities more than adequate.
We have enjoyed and benefited from our Hinkley experience.

unfortunate me, 2012-08-27
Captain: , Savannah GA (131)

Perhaps circumstances were against me, but I choose the Hinckley yard due to the reputation associated with their brand. Accordingly I expected professional, quality service. My contact with the yard was exceptionally pleasant and cooperative. Unfortunately the repair work I requested, all quite ordinary, routine even, as well as the time frame I was given to expect, fell far short of the reputation. Maybe I just got there on a bad day, we all have them. But I do have to report that my experience was altogether unsatisfactory, and, I hope, for both the yard and future customers, an isolated event.

Excellent service and good price, 2012-08-15
Captain: , Seattle, WA (10)

Arrived @ Hinckley Boatyard in Thunderbolt, GA after hearing from two friends about the high quality of their mechanical and electrical work. Initially we were going to replace the rear seal in our old Perkins 4-107, but after talking to Dustin Hartley, yard manager, and their mechanic, Bob Forseth, we decided it was time for a new engine since we were having repeated problems keeping the 4-107 going. We nailed down a fair price with the yard and we had a Beta Marine 43 engine installed, and the installation came out much better than we could have done ourselves since Bob came up with some brilliant ideas such as using an 8 degree down angle transmission, which resulted in the engine being installed almost dead level. There were many other nice touches to the installation. We needed to wait about two weeks for the engine to arrive from Beta, since it takes Beta some time to configure the engine to your specification. However, once the yard started working on the engine installation, it was completed within just six days to the highest of standards. To say we are happy with the yard and the engine is an understatement. As an added note, we dealt with Beta Marine about the purchase of the engine and some later questions we had once we were using the engine. They are an old fashioned company and can't seem to do enough for you. Stephen & Marja Vance, Schooner MOTU, homeport, Seattle, WA, currently cruising East Coast of US.

Just the basics but nice, 2012-06-17
Captain: , Cleveland (2083)

We spent one night here and found the docks, power and water to be fine. Restrooms were clean but only one head/shower combo. But given that there weren't many transients around it wasn't a big deal.

The owners could not have been any nicer and looked for suggestions from us as to improvements that could be made to attract more transients. As long as you don't need anything other than the basics you will be fine. Easy docking along face dock. Bike ride to breakfast and Piggly Wiggly (and other stores) was a 10 minute easy ride. The back roads are better as the main rode has no sidewalk nor a bike lane.

Not a whole lot around though. Loaner car would have been helpful but we will likely return regardless.

Working Boatyard w/ a Dock, 2012-05-11
Captain: , Newport RI. (145)

Needed repair on a not-so-dripless dripless shaft. Called Hinckley & asked if they could help. As soon as we arrived they were on the boat and ready to work. Were able to not only get the shaft repaired, but get some help with an alternator issue as well. From our first phone call, to meeting us at the dock, to the work completed quickly & correctly at a very fair price - all done with great attitude and professionalism. Just because it says Hinckley doesn't automatically mean high price. In our case, because of their expertise they saved us money by getting it right the first time. Would definitely stop again.

Great place to overnight with 2 restaurants withn half mile walking. A working yard but great for self sufficient cruiser not needing much more than electric, water, and restrooms.

I called Hinckley to inquire about hauling and storing my Pacific Seacraft 37 on the hard. After discussing needs with yard manager, I was promised a call back later the same day. Never heard back. Must be too busy.

When we broke down, they had to make the parrs for us, and did not even charge us for them.

What nice people!, 2009-07-20
Captain: , Bonita Springs, FL (413)

This is a working yard so the amenities are not fancy but the bathrooms are clean and the personal are helpful and knowledgeable. Their mechanics are fast and know what they are doing. It is an easy walk to the town of Thunderbolt where there are a few restaurants. The floating docks are reasonable on a monthly basis if they have room for you.

Great Service, 2009-07-04
Captain: , Marathon, FL (1264)

We scheduled bottom painting, Propspeed, zincs, etc. Hinckley hauled us out on Monday AM and put us back in the water at high tide on the following Friday. On time and on budget! We have a 55' trawler - weighs in at 47 tons. They were able to haul us with their 50 ton lift. Probably as large as they could go. The staff is professional, friendly, and helpful.

Not a full service marina. However if you need work done on the boat these guys are wonderful. Easy in & out T-dock, 2 boat lifts, no wake zone, ice, showers & restorooms on site. Best to come into dock at slack tide if possible.
