Reviews for Hinckley Yacht Services - Oxford
Complex Repairs, 2015-01-03
Captain: , Annapolis (20)

Dec 14. I brought my yacht, a 42 ft Legacay, to Hinckley for winter storage and hull damage repairs. The result of a hard grounding with rocks in the St. Lawrence Seasway. It turned out the damage repairs were more complex than intially thought. Mike McKenzie, the Hinckley Service Manager was contientious and wanted to work done right. Mark Darling was not only a knowledgeable expert on fibergrlass repairs, but he kept careful photo records of the whole process. Mark also made excellent suggestions on methods to minimize the disruption to the interior during the repairs work. Congratulations to Elliot Anderson and his whole service team--FRP experts, carpenters, electritions--on performing skillful and professional repairs. Highly Recommended. LNL

Always will make good., 2014-04-29
Captain: , Annapolis (42)

I have worked with them for many years, and if you ever do have a problem, they will stand behind their work. They have even gone over and above to solve a problem for me that really wasn't even their issue to begin with.

friendly staff nice town., 2013-08-28
Captain: , Central Illinois (497)

stayed here 2 nights before ending our season. Pool was clean and restrooms were clean too. Dark grey tiles make it appear to be dirty but it wasn't. Laundry had 3 washers and dryers.

Very good location, 2013-07-10
Captain: , Annapolis, Md (120)

Did an overnight. Elliot (the Yard Manager) was very gracious and gave us a free night. Good location and very protected. The yard is very easy to get in and out of. The town is very much a throwback to days gone by and a good explore. We had a great meal and a good visit. The marina is rough. Bathrooms were horriblly filthy and looked as though they hadn't been cleaned in months. Pool was unattended and filthy.

Two boat, two night transient. Nicely kept marina, clean facilities and pool on site, but just didn%u2019t feel welcomed at all. Front end staff not very friendly or personable and gave off impression that our presence was more of an imposition for them. Expect to have exact cash for ice as they apparently never have change as we heard several times. One of those marinas that could easily be a four or five star but I don%u2019t see a return trip with other choices available in the area.

Hinckley , a bad experience, 2013-06-10
Captain: , St. George Island, FL (102)

We reserved a slip for our 39 Nordic Tug on Sunday 09 june 2013. A nice young man directed us to a slip.and attempted to help us tie up. He knew next to nothing about line handling, and assigned us to a slip with a finger pier so low and so far away laterally that we would have needed a ladder to disembark. He was as nice as possible. Whoever was responsive for training him failed miserably. Hinckley should remove their valuable name from this location or shape it up. We left and went to Mears nearby where our dockage was just fine.

Not impressed, 2012-09-12
Captain: , Middle River, MD (73)

Based on reviews of Mears and Hinlkey, we chose Hinkley which, by the way, is called something else on my chart plotter. Be warned.

I originally wrote a very poor review of this marina. Subsequently, I was contacted by the general manager who obviously was concerned about my experience. Based on his taking the time to investigate my concerns, I have softened this a bit. We had a bad experience with one of his younger staff and I'm sure he will follow up and correct the problem.

I would still point out that the restrooms were very dirty and uninviting. We had to stop somewhere else for a pump-out. The marine store was not well stocked at the time. The entire facility is in need of upgrade. Perhaps, they are primarily a service facility or the economy has prevented needed maintenance.

Bottom line - we weren't particularly impressed with a facility affiliated with the great name of Hinkley.

Hinckley Name, not Hinckley Quality, 2012-09-05
Captain: , Annapolis (10)

I can't speak to the "marina" aspects of the facility but based on several local recommendations I chose to use the yard for service and repairs on a (non-Hinckley power) boat I bought last winter. Standard commissioning work: bottom, zincs, tune-ups, hose clamps and interior/exterior detailing. The work took forever (there was a staff turnover amidst the project). Probably took 60 days for minor projects on a 22 foot boat. Did a decent job with some awlgrip touch-up and rubrail repair. My bottom paint is bubbling/flaking already (6 months old); when I inspected the boat after getting it back to Annapolis all zincs had been removed but none had been replaced! Prices were above average for yard hourly rate and but a commensurate bump in quality over other yards wasn't noticable. Staff was nice enough, but clearly turnover and other issues impacted the quality of work I received. Will try elsewhere for yard work in future.

Very secure & protected marina, 2012-07-07
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (6425)

Oxford is a very quiet town, several restaurants within walking distance. Good ice cream nearby. Marina floating docks a little wobbly, but otherwise very protected. Power fluctuations, but may have been due to extremely hot weather (100+) Restroom/showers could use upgrade & cleaning. Marina staff very helpful.

Port in a Storm, 2011-09-08
Captain: , Annapolis (2677)

We were caught in an unexpected gale (30-40 kt true) just outside Blackwalnut point. A friend in town contacted Hinkley and advised there were two rather beat up boats struggling to make headway around the point. Hinkley offered dockage and amenities to us with no questions asked. No fees, Guy knew we were worn out, and made his facilities availale to us. What a show of concern and compasion. This is what really tells you about the heart and sole of the operation; they care. I should know, after all I also manage a boatyard, in Virginia. Thank you Hinkley.

Hinckley's Boatyard Oxford, 2011-05-19
Captain: , Doylestown, Pa. 18902 (414)

Transients usually on D dock fixed dock one side tie to pilings on the bow. Showers and a pool close by. Charlie who works the ship store gave us a reusable shopping bag filled with info on the town which included rest, hospitals, groceries, etc. Plus a couple Hinckley baseball caps. I needed some propane and after hours and Charlie saw me and went to his own boat and gave me a propane bottle to use. Free use of bicycles, local market about four blocks away. Beautiful town

Floating dock, 2010-07-31
Captain: , Mesa AZ (1609)

Working boat yard with a pool. Town has very little to do. Marina staff helpful.
