Can't say enough nice things about Brian, Denise and Higgins Marina!
We had a water pump impeller failure and called for availability of a mechanic. Denise assured us of dock space there, and Brian stopped what he was doing to make the repair. The cost was very reasonable, and dockage was significantly less than the opportunistic marinas close by!
Great people! Great service!

Reviews for Higgins Yacht Yard
Great Service, 2016-08-17
Captain: , Newark De (10)

Had a battery charger fail on us that caused our batteries to die. The yard let us use a battery charger for half the morning and wander in and check the status of the battery, nicest people on the bay. They even took some time to talk about they log canoe they had in their shop with my wide eyed son.

Best location in St Micheal's, 2016-06-29
Captain: , Tempe, AZ (210)

This Marina is low on basic amenities, no wifi except close to the office, and no place to sit near the office but a stack of railroad ties. Only 2 single toilet/bath rooms, so a bit of a wait. Great location just a few blocks from town (saloon and grocery), short walk to the museum, and right on the waterfront with lots of goods restaurants. Would have loved to stay another day had there been wifi so I could stay in touch with my office. The staff was fabulous and very helpful.

Great Value Marina, 2016-06-07
Captain: , Southport Queensland (300)

Stayed Friday and Satuday nights at less than half the rate of others in St Michaels. Did not use the facilities but good assistance at tie up and cast off and a very short walk to the centre of Talbot Street-much closer than alternatives. Will certainly return 208 Talbot restaurant excellent!

Great Choice for an overnite stay, 2016-05-31
Captain: , Galesville, Md (116)

Once again, great spot for a visit. Cathy and the entire staff are great. Clean heads.... ALL GOOD. Nice spot for an overnight.

Stayed here on June 12th for one night. It's a working yard not a Marina. Very clean docks, dock assistance was good, very good information brief by the lady in the office. Heads clean. GREAT alternative to the very expensive options in St Mike's. I will return.

Wonderful little marina, 2015-12-09
Captain: , Lancaster (21)

Great marina for our short stay in St Micheals. We have used it them many times. They are small and freindly.

great place, 2015-10-25
Captain: , Middle River MD (20)

We stayed late October. had a nice stay. staff is very accommodating. Short walk to downtown. Easy tie up and clean Bathrooms.

Great price, great location, 2015-10-21
Captain: , Annapolis (262)

Spent 3 days here (last day due to heavy weather in Ches Bay) with friends from Beantown. Good basic marina and very attentive staff. Cathy entusiatically gave us the history of their log canoe (Island Lark). What a beautiful boat! Craig (the dockmaster) was very helpful and accomodating. Making plans to return for the log canoe races next season - our Boston guests are already setting their calendars. Now if Higgins could only add fuel and pump out facilities to give some competition to the St. Mikes Marina across the harbor (and get the 5th star!).

Nice Weekend, 2015-10-12
Captain: , Berwyn (250)

Nice marina freindly staff. Facilities (restrooms) a little dated but clean. Can get very busy and docks get packed.

Nicest people running the yard., 2015-09-28
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (6425)

We were weathered in at Higgins for a week, staff made it very pleasant. Helpful docking (more help is available on weekends) Short finger piers on north side of well, long finger piers on south side for larger boats. When full, Higgins puts some boats inside the haul well. Good power and water, wifi. Docks were solid in a strong east blow.

Higgins would rate 5 stars with better amenities, but it was still a great stop. Close to grocery, museum, shops. Only thing lacking was laundry.

Great price, convenient to everything!, 2015-09-09
Captain: , Guilford, CT (120)

We came to Higgins on 8/31 and stayed over another night as well. This must be a "best kept secret"...Higgins is convenient to Everything! There is a very reasonably priced food store about two short blocks away (I was expecting resort prices), and you can see the entrance to the Maritime Museum from your slip. Saint Michael's is a lovely walking town, made easy by the location of the marina. For the money you just can't beat this marina!

Great Value, 2015-08-19
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (32)

Spent a quite Tue evening at Higgins. Called a week before for reservation but was told not needed. Called an hour before arrival and got our slip assignment. No one was availabe to help dock. Took head of B pier. Easy tieup and power. Awfully close to sight seeing ship Patriot mooring and boaters mooring at Crab Claw Restraunt. Next time I would choose one of the inner piers!. Two shower/heads - adequate but not AC. This was not an issue last time we where here in October but it was hot humid day and AC in the shower would have been a welcome relief. Staff was friendly and helpful when needed. Location in great for Maritime museum or town.

About 1/2 the price of others in the area, 2015-08-15
Captain: , Road Harbour - BVI (651)

This is the best value marina in St. Michaels!

Consider staying here and use you savings to enjoy a nice meal out or stay longer.

Friendly people, good clean facilities, good power. what else do you need?

Great staff & reasonable for area, 2015-07-01
Captain: , Lake Texoma (160)

Great experience at Higgins. We ducked in here on a Saturday afternoon when a tornado watch was issued & after having anchor holding challenges in the St. Michael's area. The dockhand, Craig, couldn't have been any better in accommodating & helping us in windy conditions. Compared to the folks across the way at $3.65/ft, our experience at $2.50/ft couldn't have been better. It doesn't have bells & whistles, but all we wanted was a safe haven (cinderblock restroom) if the threatening weather really developed. Sunday turned out beautiful & we had a front row seat for boat/people watching in the very busy area near the Crab Claw restaurant. This would be our choice in any future visits to St. Michael's.

EXCELLENT, simple Marina with boat yard on site; travel lift, mechanic, etc., 2015-05-24
Captain: , Glen Cove, NY (281)

Stayed over Memorial Weekend and despite being fully booked, Dockmaster CATHY managed everything perfectly. The place runs like a well oiled machine; neat, orderly, expert guidance getting in/out. No frills, old fashioned, first rate Marina! Most convenient to town, Museum, best restaurant (Crab Claw) and tourist attractions. As a Sailboater, this is THE PLACE to stay in St. Michaels. There are strict rules for conduct, duly enforced, that respect peace and quiet for all.

Great location and service, 2014-10-23
Captain: , Sarasota, FL (60)

We stayed here for a week in July and the office staff was super. Location is perfect for the shopping district and museum. The only drawback is the limited washroom facilities.

Very nice working yard, 2014-10-19
Captain: , Clayton, NY (645)

We spent 3 nights here due to heavy winds on the Chesapeake. It is right in the center of town. Acme is 2 small blocks away. Went to the Chesapeake Maritime museum which was very interesting. They were starting a 3 log canoe which we had never seen before. Bathroms were adequate, a working boat yard. The price for dockage was reasonable.

Great overnight stop, 2014-06-25
Captain: , Wall, NJ (420)

This is a working marina and facilities are very utilitarian. Price is reasonable for the area and it is close to town and the Chesapeake Bay Musuem.

Close To Everything St. Michaels, 2014-05-27
Captain: , Little River, SC (476)

But remember, this is a boat yard, not a marina as marinas go. Staff is great and helpful, but you get tied to a dock and that's it. Great place to home base for a tour of St. Michaels.

Makes docking in St. Michaels reasonable, 2014-05-16
Captain: , Norfolk, VA (671)

Other comments are accurate. A great place to be. Close to everything, with very pleasant staff. Still $1.50/ ft during week.

Very Homey, 2014-01-08
Captain: , Chester, MD (225)

The best value in St. Mikes. The place is comfortable but nothing fancy. In a great location just steps from St. Mikes main drag. as well as the Museum. Can get very busy in Season; reservations a must.

Overall service, 2013-11-20
Captain: , ANNAPOLIS, MD (10)

Bryon, Kathy, Denise and staff are the best

Great Working Marina At A Reasonable Price, 2013-10-21
Captain: , Rochester, NY (10)

I am a rookie and Denise guided me in on channel 16 1nd 69 and Brian one of the owners helped me tie up, showed me a few things and complemented my boat (a Bombay Clipper that had been on the hook a week and a half). Weekday $1.50 a foot $10 for 30 Amp. They are very helpful and a good value in a pricey locale. Got the WiFi to work for my Lenovo Laptop, could not for the IPod Touch I usually use on Skype. Laptop connection not fast enough to Skype. Still th best you'll do in St. Michael's pricewise and a great value. Great pressure and lots of hot water in the showers.

Great Marina in a Great Town, 2013-10-08
Captain: , Kings Creek Marina (736)

Cathy Stinchcomb lives up to her well deserved reputation of running one of the friendliest marinas on Eastern Bay. Easy entrance off the Miles River, this marina is two blocks from a great grocery store and more restaurants, antique shops, and artist%u2019s galleries than you can see in two afternoons. Very friendly staff rounds out the perfect marina in a truly perfect town.

Fantastic experience, 2013-09-25
Captain: , Frog Mortar Creek (10)

Great experience at Higgins from the moment we arrived to the last minute before we left. It's safe to say we'll be staying here again in the future.

Very nice stay, 2013-09-12
Captain: , Portsmouth, VA (430)

Good, well maintained fixed docks, very convenient to town; wiill return to this location again.

GREAT PLACE, 2013-09-12
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (343)

We like this better than the city docks. Quiet, well maintained, and a closer walk into town than the city docks

Great value in St. Michaels, 2013-07-30
Captain: , Austin, TX (346)

This marina is part of a working boat yard and as such the facilities are rather basic. The restroom/showers are clean. The fixed wooden docks are in good condition. No laundry or pool or boaters lounge. But the prices are much more reasonable than elsewhere in St. Michaels. The location is tops for exploring St. Michaels and the people are great to work with. They really helped us out on an earlier stay when we had to replace a raw water pump. Can be busy so reservations are good, especially on weekends or holidays. This was our third stay at Higgens and every one has been very enjoyable.

Fun Little Town, 2013-07-01
Captain: , Beaufort, S.C. (570)

Higgins is in a great location to enjoy all that St. Michaels has to offer. Slips were tight (our beam is 14ft), but doable. Best time to visit is during the week as it can be crowded on weekends. Higgins doesn%u2019t have the amenities (no pump out, very basic bathrooms) of many places, but the prices are much more reasonable than other marinas in the area. Grocery store is just up the street. Sweetie Bakery has amazing croissants and more. Ava%u2019s restaurant in town was fantastic %u2013 try the homemade potato chips. There is a pretty patio out back with fireplace, water feature and huge pots of flowers.

Prior Reviews are correct for the marina and if you like to bike ride, 2013-06-19
Captain: , Dover DE (145)

Ask them about the bike ride to Oxford either around the whole loop or the bit shorter way by taking the Bellevue Ferry both ways.

Basic dockage, but one of our favorites, 2013-05-28
Captain: , Londontowne, MD (470)

The docks are not fancy (they did extend an existing finger pier into a longer dock in 2011), and sometimes boats are loaded in "the well" and along the longer piers in such a way that early departures can mean some juggling of boats who arrived later... but it's always a great place to stay. We try for at least one visit per year, usually timed for the cooler months (i.e., not July or August) because they have no pool... but that's a minor detail. Staff (Kathy, and this year Craig, and Denise) really go out of their way to make arrivals and departures easy, and to make the stay itself as comfortable as possible. Kathy is especially good as an Ambassador for the town, and she's quick to offer a recap of current restaurants and recommendations if required.

May 2013 update: the Wi-Fi situation is evolving in that the marina does now offer passworded service. That said, our experience from the outer dock on the first day was good signal strength, good network connectivity, good throughput (using an external range extender) but attempts on subsequent days offered only good signal strength but no network connectivity. The access point is connected to the marina's DSL phone service, so low data rates would be expected... especially if some marina guests are trying to stream moviews or whatever.

Great stop in St Michaels, 2013-05-06
Captain: , Stony Point, NY (852)

We called for service, but they were busy and recommended Daffin Marine, a mobile service. We arranged to come in to their dock to have the work done. We were told there might not be anyone there - early in the season. We were told to take any spot we want. Friendly people. Easy walk to town, grocery and hardware, museum and restaurants. I would definitely return. Better than the other marinas in town. Easy in and out.

Higgins Marina, 2012-11-14
Captain: , Kent Island Maryland (90)

Great overnighting place right in the middle of St. Mikes. Cathy the manager is very accomadating and you won't spend a million bucks for a slip. Very affordable rates compared to the rest of SM.

Favorite St. Mikes stop. Most convenient location. Rustic facilities but adequate. Price is acceptable.

Can't say enough nice things about Brian, Denise and Higgins Marina!

Great people! Great service!

Convenient and Friendly, 2012-07-11
Captain: , Pensacola, FL (675)

Spent two nights here and really enjoyed it. Most convenient to downtown and shops. Facilities are not the fanciest but are suitable and the convenience, and friendliness of the place make it a first choice for me in St. Michaels. Located closest to the main part of town, right by the mueseum and easy walk to restaurants.

Friendly and Economical, 2012-06-06
Captain: , Magothy River, MD (51)

We stayed here one night over memorial day weekend (made the reservation 2 days before and they still had room!), mostly because St. Michael's Marina was full, but I would definitely stay here again. It was about half the cost of St. Michael's marina. The staff was so friendly and couldn't have been more helpful, and they made sure to put us in a slip that was easy to get into and out of in our sailboat. It's very close to the center of town, but still quiet. The bathrooms were fairly clean, but nothing special. I would definitely stay here again.

GOOD VALUE, 2012-06-04
Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1523)

Higgins is a boatyard, not a marina. The facility is old and in fair condition. The restrooms, 1 Men's, 1 Women's were not fancy, but clean. The staff was not overly friendly, but the price, compared to the other marinas was good and it is very close to town.

Stay here again, 2012-05-22
Captain: , Smith Mountain Lake, VA (266)

When I sail into Saint Michaels in the future, I'll stay at Higgins. Inexpensive, great location and clean, basic facilities.

A Great Location in a Beautiful Town, 2012-05-08
Captain: , Saint Michaels (300)

Good slips. Great people. Staff always very helpful. If repairs are needed these folks can do it all. Nice restaurants and grocery stores are nearby.

Great place to stay in St. Michaels for less, 2012-05-06
Captain: , Annapolis (10)

This marina is right down town. While not as "fancy" as the other marinas in town you can walk anywhere you like and save some $ to spend at the local bars! Recommended.
The dock master and his staff are very friendly and helpful. Not fancy but a great value.

Great location / Great repaits and parts, 2012-03-28
Captain: , Selby Bay, MD (93)

I was anchoring off the Maritime Museum when when I blew out my raw water pump. I sailed my boat through the harbor to Higgins where the crew helped me into a slip. They ordered the part and after the weekend got me to a car rental place in Easton so I could get home. The boat was repaired as soon as the part came in and I reversed the car trip and sailed back to Annapolis. It was a more expensive weekend than I anticipated, but I still enjoyed St. Mike's and had great service from Higgins.

A first-rate experience, 2011-10-10
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale (1288)

From the can-do attitude of Denise, the office manager who took our reservations, to the knowledgeable dock hands, to the easy check-in (Denise had our bill waiting and ready for a credit card swipe--took about 3 minutes start to finish), Higgins offered first-rate experience. Excellent 240V electric, fine water pressure, well-maintained if older piers, and plenty of water. And the price is right . . . why go anywhere else in St. Michaels?

Good value for the cost., 2011-10-06
Captain: , Marathon (275)

We stayed at Higgins Yacht Yard during the week because my outboard was acting up. They don't work on them but were very accommodating, suppling a telephone number. The heads and showers are combined, there are two and they are kept clean. The docks fixed wooden and they've been refurbished. The yard is close to town. Lastly, all the staff are friendly and helpful.

Great Small Town Marina, 2011-09-05
Captain: , Freeport, ME (255)

We stayed here for one night over the Labor Day weekend and we will definitely be back! We were met by Craig who showed us the way to our slip and helped us with lines as we pulled in. Several others were there to help with tying up which made the whole process very easy. We checked in and were given a map of the area and several recommendations for things to do and places to eat. It was a great experience and we will definitely be back!

if it ain't broke, don't fix it..., 2011-07-05
Captain: , baltimore (168)

You can pay the higher fee and stay at the "other" marina across the little harbor in St.Mikes, but you'll do fine here at Higgins. Our experience with making the reservation, arriving, docking, checking in, and staying there was excellent overall! The people are truly awesome and extremely nice. I only gave it 4 stars because they don't offer WIFI. NOTE: They said they have WIFI for personal their use, but they don't offer it "officially" to paying customers. We searched for it, but I couldn't connect to anything other than a very weak intermittent signal from the "other" marina across the small harbor. In addition, the bath house restrooms are adequate self contained units (shower, toilet and sink all in one locked room), which is good, but the shower seemed a tiny bit dank and there was no A/C in either restroom. We chose to shower onboard the boat. On a very VERY positive note, the location cannot be beat, and I would definitely stay here again. It's a great place that meets the basic needs of the frugal boater, and it served our purposes well. Again, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. They have a good thing going at Higgins, and we'll definitely be back!

Great and friendly people, 2011-06-23
Captain: , Where ever the hook is (573)

Needed assistance for getting a part, they were more than helpful and I wasn't even staying at their marina (I was anchored out) but they helped without hesitation. Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable.

Most centrally located marina in St Michaels, 2011-06-01
Captain: , bear, de (364)

Our first vistit, but not our last. Basic clean, docks in great shape. If you don't need a pool(bathub) this is a great place to stay. Spotless bathrooms but not air condtioned.

A real marina, 2011-06-01
Captain: , millsboro DE (300)

I have stayed here numerous times it is well located and the rates are fair. This is a true boat yard/marina with knowledgeable staff that are very helpful.

No frills but inexpensive, 2011-05-23
Captain: , Orwell, VT (74)

This is indeed the no frills place to stay in St. Michaels. 5/23/11 we were charged $1.50weekend rate and $1.00 weekly rate. I suspect the price goes up later in the summer.
The price is much better than St Michaels Marina just across the small bay. Off Season in the $4-5.00 range.
Rest rooms just adequate so shower on the boat.
Short walk to downtown and all of its festivities.

Nice basic place, friendly people, 2010-09-13
Captain: , Baltimore (346)

Only amenities are a shower and bathroom. But people are friendly and rates are OK (for St. Michaels), about $2.20/foot.

No discounts other than for 'Marina Life' (no BoatUS etc).

Nice & Basic, 2009-11-11
Captain: , Chesapeake Bay, MD (311)

This is the "No Frills" place to stay in St. Mikes. Older dock, small marina and yard. Easy walk into town. BigGrin

No frills but homey, 2009-06-02
Captain: , Middle R, MD-Warminster, PA (54)

If you want to visit St. Michaels and stay within your budget this is the place to dock. Very accomodating staff, friendly, and basic, yet adequate.

Traditional Boat Yard, 2008-10-21
Captain: , New Rochelle, NY (1000)

Old fashioned boat yard and reasonably priced. Very friendly staff . Close to town and the Crab Claw Restaurant.

Laid back but accomodating, 2007-08-17
Captain: , Stratford, CT (146)

After getting booted from the Marina and Spa we contacted Higgens to see if they happened to have a slip for the same day. They were very accomodating and found us room. This is a basic marina with older fixed docks. Friendly dock staff and very close to the charming town.
