Reviews for Hidden Harbor Marina
Great stop, 2017-05-13
Captain: , Pompano Beach (20)

Stephanie and James brought us in to the dock expertly. The fellow cruisers couldn't be nicer. We will always return here when in St. Augustine. We're hoping it doesn't become too popular so that we'll be able to get in with our Lagoon 38 in the Fall!

A Hidden Gem, 2017-05-07
Captain: , Smithville, TN (40)

A beautiful and B&B type of marina. The staff are amazing and make you feel right at home. Great vista of the marshland as far as you can see. We loved our stay there and would recommend No fuel and limited shower facility but a great hidden hideaway.

Best Kept Secret in St. Augustine, 2017-04-20
Captain: , Georgetown, MD (372)

This is an older marina that is now being well run (and upgraded) by Stephanie and James. The facilities are exceptionally clean, fully functional, and the grounds are very well kept. The docks are floating concrete with short finger piers so trawlers and power boats must come in stearn to. Stephanie and James and all of the neighboring residents are very helpful with helping you into the slip. Stephanie will direct you to a transiet slip that is parallel to the very fast current and then for a longer term she will move you to a slip during slack tide. Stephanie knows exactly when slack tide occurs every day so LISTEN TO HER! We stayed for one month and found this is a very small, friendly place where everyone helps each other. This marina (and the people) coupled with St. Augustine, is the best place we have stayed since leaving Delaware last October.

THIS IS THE BEST LOCATION IN ST. AUGUSTINE. It is close to the back side of downtown and in the other direction Wynn Dixie is only a mile away along with West Marine, Home Depot, Harbor Freight, and a host of other stores. Sailors Exchange is only a few blocks away. A local Farm Market, San Sebastian Winery, St. Augustine Distillery, and Whetstone Chocolate Factory are only a couple of blocks away.

If you're looking for a resort, don't come here. If you're looking for a great location, excellent service, and a place with a lot of character, this is it. Be sure to call ahead as there is generally not very many spaces available, maybe the secret's out!

Good and simple, 2016-10-10
Captain: , Kemah (130)

Transient slips are parallel to the current which can be hard at times, but staff is there to lend you a hand. If you're looking for resort style, this is not your marina, but ideal for a few days sightseeing in town.

Hidden Gem, 2016-06-03
Captain: , Wilmington DE (792)

We returned for a second extended stop. Staff very helpful. Dock neighbors turn out in force to assist docking and undocking. Kind of a family place with easy access to town via taxi, car or one of the shuttles. They are crouded so book early if you expect to get a slip.

Value added location makes it a 5-star, 2016-03-18
Captain: , Moyock, NC (1084)

Although the facilities of the marina are not new or plush, they are in excellent condition, and the location to downtown St Augustine is the best on the SanSabastian River, close to everything on the back side of the town. There is a $5 shuttle service to anywhere and the Tour Trolleys (Old Town and Red Car) pick up within two blocks of the marina. The staff is excellent, strive to assure that everything you need is available, and all the people are helpful and friendly. With both a weekly and monthly rate, you can't beat the location, cost, and nice environment. As on most rivers with a wide tide swing, come in on a slack tide.

Best little secret marina in St. Augustine, 2016-02-09
Captain: , Philadelphia (296)

I second everything and all from the previous reviewers ! All true !
I stayed for 2 months, November and December 2015. In addition, the local First City taxi driver lives in the marina, very convinient.
Frontier airlines will start again cheap non-stop flights into St. Augustine from Philadelphia and Chicago in Mid-April 2016. Also flying into Orlando and renting a Budget oneway car to St. Augustine for less then $ 30.00 is very viable option... Less then 2 hour drive.
THEO restaurant open for breakfast and lunch (closes at 2pm) is at the marina and quite good. Hurrican Patty in a walking distance is also recommanded, live music almost every day...
Use the local diving bottom cleaning service often, very reasonable and doing good work. Even include an under water video of hull & prop.

A hidden treasure, 2016-01-26
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (30)

We were lucky enough to get a transient slip at Hidden Harbor in late December for a month, and it was a perfect location and environment. Stephanie and James took such good care of us (helping us in and out of the slip; accepting packages; setting up steps so that we could get on and off the boat; keeping an eye on our boat while we were gone for the holidays, recommending local marine tradepeople that were fabulous), and we felt like we were almost part of the family. The marina was also a short walk to downtown St. Augustine for fun restaurants and shops as well as convenient to larger groceries stores and marine suppliers. Definitely check out Hidden Harbor Marina.

Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1643)

This is our third time here. The first time we were attracted by the cheap price. The second time the price was more but there were no improvements. This time the price went up to $1.25/' but the place is much improved. The toilets are new and very clean. The office has been remodeled, and there is now a lounge with a tv. The driveway and parking lot have also been redone. Its only a short 4 block walk to town where ther are many fine restaurants and lots to do and see. The new managers, Stephanie and her husband have done an excellent job here. I'm almost afriad to give it a good rating for fear it will become more popular and I won't be able to get one of rheir few transient slips.

A new favorite, 2015-11-08
Captain: , Chicago (270)

St. Augustine is one of our favorite stops and for the first time we stayed on the river. Navigating up the river was easy with good depths and navigation aids. The marina is all the way up just behind the winery. Hidden Harbor is within easy walking or biking distance to historic downtown, grocery store and restaurants.

What makes this marina really special though is the friendly and caring management by Stephanie and her husband James. From catching lines when docking to the time you leave they assure that the marina is a good place to stay. The facilities are very well cared for with 4 clean private restroom/shower rooms, coffee is available in the morning, and there are several nice places to sit and relax on the property.

Returned in the beginning of November (2015) for a few days. Stephanie found room for us and we continue to be impressed with the improvements that are being made to the property and the hospitality extended. Hidden Harbor is a gem.

Best staff ever, 2015-10-14
Captain: , Newport RI (11)

This is the most liveaboard friendly marina I ever encountered. Stephanie, the dockmaster, is great and also lives in the marina so is almost always available for anything needed. She was there to grab our line when we arrived and was always helpful far and above the call of duty.
While we were away, Stephanie and Mike looked after our boat and notified us whenever anything happened.
The atmosphere is that of a large family. The other residents are very friendly. The Marina even organizes barbeque get-togethers occasionally with food and games.
As to the location - the marina is tucked all the way up the river so very protected.
I would highly recommend this marina for anyone in the St Augustine area.

Best Location in St. Augustine, 2015-07-22
Captain: , Gainesville, VA (88)

The location of this marina in Saint Augustine is superior. You are within 15 minute walk to two liqour stores, a west marine, a large marine supply center (Marine oil), a grocery store, a pet store, veternarian, two fruit and vegetable stands, the winery, the distillery, downtown historic area, sailors exchange store, a storage facility, restaurants... pretty much everything.

They have two mens and two ladies restrooms that are cleaned almost daily and are in great shape. Air conditioned and heated. A small but new laundry facility, free parking, free coffee in the morning, a "breezeway" area with tiki hut seating, a great grill, gated and locked entry, floating docks (but very short finger piers), new electric service,"free" potable water at every slip, excellent free wi-fi, periodic dock parties with free food and entertainment, book/music/video swap, locked dinghy storage... the list is extensive. For a place that doesn't bill itself as a premium facility it sure has the pedigree of one.

The current dockmasters as extremely friendly and are always around to catch a line.

The only downside is the current... you will need to be careful in selecting tide and you come in.

We stopped here last year, on our way south. Stopped here again on our way north. A great place for a visit to St Augustine at a reasonable price. Clean and tidy with very friendly staff. Watch the
current on your way in.

Don't miss this one!, 2015-05-18
Captain: , Oriental NC (30)

Best service ever. Many live aboards all who came out to take our lines, and make us welcome. Excellent amenities and location to down town and bus service. Even played bocce ball with the guys here. This will be my first choice when we return.
Call ahead by phone and ask for Stephanie or James.

Stoped here again on the way back north. We felt sorry for thoes who were headed for the city marina and morring field. This place is so nice and close to every thing. Will stop again!

A Real Hidden Gem, 2015-03-30
Captain: , Penetanguishene (125)

We stayed a couple of months at this fantastic little marina. The dockmasters, Stephanie and James were always available for whatever information or services needed. Many liveaboards here, all very friendly and more than happy to lend a helping hand when docking.

Walking distance to both the historic downtown, and shopping mall for groceryies, fruits and veg and West Marine. Sailor's Exchange and Custom Marine Canvas are only a couple blocks away. Also walking distance to the huge and well-stocked commercial and recreational chandlery:

Marine Oil and Supply.

Everything a boater could ever want at fair prices. If it's not in stock, they will get it for you.

Awesome high speed internet, very high signal strength and very fast, measured at 8 MPS using Ookla....better than home.

Free parking and gated security access to docks round out this very reasonably priced find.

Free parking and gated security access to docks round out this very reasonably priced find.

good and getting better, 2015-03-18
Captain: , Holland (270)

we stayed for 3 nights in mid march. the marina has had a new owner in the past 6 months and a new resident dock master couple. I seemed to me they are working hard to improve a facility that had been deteriorating. the rates are on the website so that should be no issue, discounts for boat us. the floating dock was clean, the dock master met us to assist with docking. the dock and restrooms are locked with a coded keyless locks. the heads were clean, there is a laundry room with books, computer and tv. the Internet is OK but sometimes a bit weak at the far end of the dock. one odd thing was the dock master printed out a 25 page document full of legalize that I had to sign. I did not read it but one boat that came in left in part because he did not agree with a clause in the contract. I think this will be a 4 or 5 star marina if the progress continues. the location is great.

Great Place, 2015-02-11
Captain: , Alabama (252)

Good rates, easy walk to the Old City or new part of town. Stephanie and James are great.

Great Place, 2015-02-10
Captain: , CHAPEL HILL (10)

We spent 2 days in St. Augustine. Hidden Harbor could accomodate our 45 cat with no trouble, but I would check to make sure they have an open spot. Nice place close to historic St. Augustine. Thanks to Stephanie the dockmaster who took great care of us.

Jim and Stephanie are great, 2015-01-21
Captain: , Clayton, NY (655)

We had 5 people help us dock. There is a good current here and we were just past slack tide so it was nice having someone help push off the pilings. Facilities are clean and neat. You are close enough to everything - West Marine and Winn Dixie 1.5 mi away, historic St Augustine 1.3 mi away, sailors exchange (boat thrift shop) 2 blocks away.

Friendliest Marina, Great Location, 2015-01-20
Captain: , Delaware city (80)

We truly enjoyed our time at Hidden Harbor. Great location and is in walking distance of the historic downtown district as well as West Marine and groceries. There was a fresh produce stand close by as well. The marina has all the basics including clean restrooms for a very reasonable rate. Stephanie, the dockmaster, was truly accomodating and helpful. We will be back.

Excellent alternative to St. Augustine Municipal, 2015-01-08
Captain: , Shorewood WI (244)

And interesting transit up the St. Sabastion River to the very end. Favor the green side between "1" and "3" for the deep water. Yes, the power lines at the end are 65' so if you made it under the US 1 bridge you can get into the marina.

Much cheaper than downtown. Clean, well managed, and friendly with quite a few live aboards. Lots of water around the docks. Easy walk to resturant, fuel (carry to boat.) Would use again rather than going downtown

What Mike Just Said!, 2015-01-03
Captain: , Onancock, VA (172)

I'm the single hander who showed up for the party.

And now I'm updating the review a week later. I'm still here because it's hard to leave this place. Stephanie and James took over the management in October of 2014 and have built a family atmosphere on these secure floating docks in the heart of St. Augustine. The rates are low for the area, the facilities are well maintained, the heads are clean and large with plenty of hot water and excellent shower heads, and there are also the little services that Stephanie provides that are above and beyond like carrying propane tanks out to be topped up and in my case using her truck to haul my anchor from Sialors Exchange (a short walk).

The location is convenient to Old Town St. Augustine which is just across a short bridge, Sailors Exchange is two blocks in the other direction and Wynn Dixie and West Marine are about a mile away. There are bicycles available but there's usually someone offering a ride. The clientel here is a mix of liveaboards and transients who, like me, stopped in for maintenance and found the support to get more done than planned.

This is not a high-end marina with a pool and on-site amenities. Stephanie and the owners have created a nautical neighborhood from a bye-gone era. When I arrived, and Stephanie & James are there for each arrival and departure, there were three or four others to help with lines. Yesterday I counted eleven of us to assist a vessel move from the face dock into a slip, not including the children.

Great Place to Stay, 2014-12-27
Captain: , Charleston, SC (72)

This is not the newest and trendiest marina around, but the restrooms, laundry and showers are clean, and its only a five minute walk to downtown St. Augustine. What makes this a five star marina is the service you receive and the friendliest staff we have seen in two years of traveling. And, the pricing is very reasonable.
On returning to the marina after Christmas, our mail was all here waiting for us, and the owners and staff threw a ham and turkey dinner with all the fixin's for all of the folks in the marina, transient as well as permanent tenants. While we were partying, a single hander came in on a sailboat, and was met by four folks who tied his boat up and brought him to the party. He had been traveling since early morning, and had had several bad experiences since he hit Florida. After the party, he said he could not believe this was the same Florida he had been traveling in. "Best marina ever"
We will stop here whenever we come this way.

New Manager, 2014-11-21
Captain: , Ruskin, FL (330)

Went to the marina yesterday to explore possiblity of moving my boat there next year. Met the bockmaster and her husband as well as some of the live aboards. From what the liveaboards said and what I saw, the new dockmaster is making a serious improvement to this little marina. This little marina under the current management is a diamond in the rough. In another year, it will be a diamond. Of all the marinas I have visited in the area, this is the right one for me. It has convience, cost, atmosphere that I desire. It is not a party place.

New Marina Managers/Dockmaster, 2014-10-13
Captain: , Saint Augustine Florida (46)

Come and meet our new Marina Manager/Dockmaster Stephanie and her husband Jim! You'll love the new improvements and appreciate the warm, friendly atmosphere. Lowest prices in town. Great place to stay, within walking distance to Historic area!

bait switch, and rude, 2014-01-24
Captain: , catskill (290)

We were given one price, when we had arrived the price went up $2.50 a foot. the owner got in my face when i asked why he raised his rates. complete jerk. I am not sure where the positive reviews come from, but this place is nasty, rude, and now overpriced.

Nice spot, nice people, nice price, 2013-12-26
Captain: , Great Falls, VA (1092)

Staying here now for a couple days. The dock master is very friendly and helpful. Walking distance to West Marine, Grocery, Propane and Liquor store as well as downtown St Augustine. Not a fancy resort marina, but a small friendly place, which is far better in my opinion. Price was more then the $25 listed on active captain, perhaps its a seasonal thing? Still, $45 a night electric included is incredably reasonable anywhere in FL so no complaints from me! They dont have much transient space, I lucked out and they had a no show, but if you have the luxury of planning ahead I would try to book ahead of time to secure a spot at this affordable gem.

Great marina with a very reasonable price, 2013-12-15
Captain: , Ottawa (1173)

You can't beat the price they charge. The docks are floating, are solid, and the facilities are in decent shape. It is a no frills marina, but if you need a well sheltered spot to hide from weather (as we did) you can't beat it.

Hidden Gem!, 2013-06-12
Captain: , Nashville (315)

We were offshore headed for Charleston when we had an injector line fail on our engine. We decided to sail in to St. Augustine to order parts but wanted somewhere inexpensive to stay because we weren't sure how long parts would take to come in. Based upon a recommendation of a friend who has stayed here, we came and what a great place! Had to get towed in because we had no engine, but it's a bit of a ways up the San Sebastian River. Greer greeted us at the dock and was a super help with giving us the skinny on the best takeout Chinese, closest Liquor store, best restaurants, etc. It's not the fanciest marina, but the bathrooms and showers are clean, the people are nice, and we felt welcome right from the get-go and the price cannot be beat. Highly recommend this place if you aren't needing full facilities (no fuel, laundry or pumpout that I could see). Also very pet friendly! Would definitely come here again!

Great Value, 2012-11-10
Captain: , little river (269)

We arrived on 10-25-12 and stayed 5 days. This is the friendliest place we have every stoped at. The aproach was very narrow but Greer and it seemed like half of the marina was there to help us get in. They were also there to help us get off. We had a great time with everyone. Greer and Arron had a cookout and we had a ball. Hurricane Sandy came up the coast and we were very secure on the back side of St Augustine. The docks are in very good shape and very good internet reception. Bathrooms were clean and well maintained and for marina guests only. Good security. Town was a easy walk. There is a grocery store close but we did not need any supplies. This is a hidden treasure and I will be back.

8 night stay, 2012-10-05
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale (106)

Best kept secret of St Augustine! I planned to stay just a few nights and chose to stay 8. Aaron & Greer (Dockmasters) are very knowledgeable and the entire place is filled with liveaboards who are very communal. Every thing is very clean and ship-shape. Everything is close to this dock. The dockmaster typically has one transient spot open on the south end parallel with the current for easy docking between tide changes. No laundry yet but coming soon!

nice spot, 2012-08-06
Captain: , jax, fl (111)

Local to this area but new to boating, just spent one weekend night here. Easy to find, deep enough water to get to. This is a nice alternative to the city docks, and half the price. We didn't need the stores and restaurants near by but this would be a great place to restock, or enjoy st augustine. I'm not sure but it appears there is only a single transient slip, and all the rest of the docks are used by live aboards. Anything over 32 ft might have a problem docking. Tides are strong there, we got lucky with the wind and tide and let nature push us in. I would be sure to call ahead to make sure there's room for you.

great place, 2012-07-09
Captain: , ft myers beach fl (51)

stayed two month, great location. Dockmasters Aaron and greer are the best.

Best deal in St Augustine, 2012-06-01
Captain: , Freeport TX (143)

Floating dock, small marina, least expensive in the area. Dockmaster's are very good an friendly. Mostly liveaboards, short walk into town, Current can be challenging when docking, best at slack tide. Not many slips so call ahead.

a "Best Buy", 2012-05-28
Captain: , Marthas Vineyard (506)

A great alternative to the city marina, this small facility of mostly live-aboards offers very reasonably priced dockage with power, water, and wifi. A few blocks from the center of town provided our daily exercise, and the trolley stops nearby. Convenient restaurants, marine store, liquor store, convenience store, and wash-dry-fold laundry., One mile walk on US1 sidewalks to WinnDixie and West Marine. Friendly helpful staff. St. Augustine has a lot to offer. FYI - no pumpout or fuel here.

Amazing community makes you feel at home, 2012-03-28
Captain: , Brevard NC (20)

We arrived with intentions of just staying a few days and were drawn in at their amazing transit prices. We found a marina full of amazingly friendly and helpful individuals that is located within an easy walk to the historic part of town. We ended up having several issues with our boat to repair and the dock masters David and Haila went out of their way to assist us with the repairs and with finding quality people and locations to get the work done. Haila and David are fountains of knowledge for not just the surrounding area but also for the Bahamas and the Keys. We ended up staying at the marina for a month and I can not think of a better marina or city in which to take a break from daily cruising. Thank you for everything, including the cleanest bathrooms on the ICW!!

Great Stop, 2012-03-23
Captain: , Southport, NC (120)

What a wonderful stop. David and Haila were great host/dockmasters. Loaner bicycles, convenient to Winn Dixie and West Marine, and an easy bike or walk to downtown. We would definitely stop there again. All the locals on the dock were very friendly. Liquor store and restaurants close by, easy walk.

Friendly live-aboard community, 2011-12-27
Captain: , Newport, RI (156)

One of my favorite marinas so far! I stayed for a month on my way south. They have a great community and David and Haila run the place with a friendly efficiency. I was able to get a bunch or work done on my boat and got great advice from other transients and liveaboards. I'll be fortunate if I find a place this cool again...

Great Rates - Good Location, 2011-07-01
Captain: , Pensacola (460)

It is a ways off the ICW, but the price is great and Dave and Laila (the dock managers) are very friendly and accommodating. It is a good location with easy access to the historic area as well as provisioning. The marina is pretty full so there is very limited transient space available, however.

Great for Transients, 2011-06-19
Captain: , Punta Gorda FL (1709)

This gem of a marina is transient friendly and the closest to Old St Augustine. Over the bridge and 4 blocks. ABC store 1 block, San Sebastian Winery just over the bridge. Flat rate $27 per night. Call ahead only a few slips for transients. Ask for Dave Marina Mgr. Loaner vechicle available. best showers and restrooms we have seen yet.

Friendly, clean, well run marina. Close to Historic Downtown St. Augustine and stores. San Sebastian River is easily navigated and deep enough for most cruising boats. Very resonably priced.
