All a transient boater could ask for! Wifi was not that great

HHS is a Nice Marina, 2017-06-10
Captain: , West River (298)

Herrington Harbour South has a nice location is mostly protected. We were docked on B dock that is an easy walk to the transient office, bathhouse and local deli (marina restaurant has not opened yet this season). The staff we encountered were very professional and helpful. The marina has great docks, clean bath houses, and a nature trail. We docked in a NE wind, which was keeping us off the dock. One of the inexperienced dockhands overextended trying to help secure our boat but released upon urging of my wife. Being early in the season, I was not surprised by the lack of experience. The Dock Master, Matt, is a wealth of information and experience. The marina has a shuttle to their north marina, which is home to a number of boat contractor and a great West Marine. While a great stop for relaxation, this is not a stop for boats needing major provisions. We visited as part of the Mid-Atlantic Nordic Tug Owners Association (MANTOA) rendezvous at the marina. The marina was a great host and made us fell welcome. As our homeport is less then 2 hours from here, this is typically not on our destination list, but I would consider moving our boat here if I need a new marina.

Very Nice Marina, 2017-05-18
Captain: , Stuart, FL (1020)

Tlaw7. 05/16/2017
We have heard good things about this marina. Dockhands were right there to help with lines, etc. Docks are, mostly, man made material (like trex) and in good shape. The restaurant - Mango's replacement - is still two months from opening. We wanted to eat at the deli but a power outage caused them to close (not their fault). Our only option was to fix supper on the boat.

There is lots of activity: landscaping, fuel dock power washing, construction around the pool, fitness center, and restaurant. My four stars reflect the fact that so much is "yet to come". It will be very nice sometime in the near future.

Coming here for 3 years no more!, 2017-05-17
Captain: , Atlantis (40)

The only time in 10 years did not tip the dock hands!
This is our regular stop on the way to NJ. Hailed them, tried, for 10 minutes on 16. Staying in HHN, this time, came in for fuel.
Once they saw me in front of the fuel dock they answered.
Stated could not hear me because of the machinery at the dock. No apology just instructed me to switch to 73. By this time the wind had picked up a little.
I acknowledged, and stated that I need fuel. The young man raised his voice and stated to switch to 73. Don't know about you dialing to 73 from 16 when you have you hands full just to repeat what you said a second ago not a good idea.
During docking when I gave him instructions as to how I wanted to dock, his attitude was inexcusable.
Get fuel somewhere else. If they're the dock hands for transient slips. Go elsewhere!

Great ownership, great marina - NEW RESTAURANT COMING, 2017-02-26
Captain: , Tracys Landing, MD (422)

Herrington Harbour South is the "sister" marina to Herrington Harbour North at the northern end of Herring Bay. Both are owned by the Chaney family who take pride in the quality of their facilities, their services, and act as stewards to the environment. North is the working marina, but South is the true resort desitnation. We are slipholders at North, but frequently come "South" for the amenities and the slipholder events.

2/25/17 - New restaurant coming this season - Ketch 22. Owners are experienced marina restaurant operators in Baltimore area.

Nice Marina but Pricy Off Season, 2016-11-16
Captain: , Cape May, NJ (340)

Stopped in for night while heading South. Mangos Restaurant was closed for remodeling and all the amenities closed for the season but they still charging $2.25 per foot. The priciest Marina on the Chesapeake this time of year. We watched and listened to the pile driver driving piles all afternoon.. No charge. The grocery store across the street has a a wonderfully selection.

transients need not apply, 2016-10-09
Captain: , Longport, NJ (50)

A few years ago we stayed here and enjoyed it off a T-dock. Now, it appeared clear they were not interested in catering to transients. More interested in their wedding receptions. We came in under heavy seas and were told to tie up along their pier in the inlet. We never even got into the protection of their cove. I went to use the closest restroom for a shower, but no. I needed to walk another 500 meters for the shower. So, why have a restroom with no shower nearest the transient dock? We took a beating in the weather all night. Bumpers could do little to keep the boat off the pilings that protruded from the dock. Even the seagulls were happy I provided a wind break. Enjoyed a walk on their eco trail only to observe plenty of dock space for someone to lay along, just not us. I had a brief moment to think of staying another night because of heavy gale force winds, but I could not bare another night being smacked around the way we did the night before. So, we departed under heavy seas and slowly made our way to a safer harbor in St. Michaels. Oh, they said they had WiFi, but we were so far removed from any possible signal.

Mangos Closed, 2016-09-07
Captain: , Herrington Harbour South (328)

Mangos (restaurant/tiki bar) closed 5 Sep 2016. Forever. Pau. No more. Owners moved on with no one identified to reopen. Chesapeake Deli across the street a good option. Or better yet, boat drinks!

Premier Marina on the Bay?, 2016-07-31
Captain: , White Rocks Marina (10)

If this place isn't the most relaxing, upscale marina on the Bay I'd love to know what is. Getting the rezzy through Dockwa was easy (they confirmed within an hour or so), answered the radio call and sent a dock hand down to guide me to my slip. Slips and piers well maintained (if a little tight to navigate in the wind). The pool was fantastic; the restaurant was excellent; the beach with free SUP and kayaks was an extra benefit. And they welcome dogs. Just wish they would've allowed them at the outdoor dining area. Everyone was friendly and helpful, too. We will definitely be back!

Very nice marina, 2016-07-29
Captain: , Wickford, RI (456)

We stopped here to meet up with family and friends. It was very eraly in the season and the resort was not yet in full swing. The dock staff was very nice and helpful docking and connecting everthing up. The food and drinks at the resturant was very good. Very nice Resort grounds. We need to come back when it's warmer and the resort is in full swing.

Very Nice Resort Marina, 2016-06-10
Captain: , Suffolk, VA (171)

Third visit here and we'll be back again. We've made HHS a regular stopover for trips up or down the bay. It is a true "resort marina" with very nice amenities. The marina itself is large with multiple t heads for alongside, easy-in/out transient dockage. HHS is right off the bay so no need for long transits up a river when coming or going. We were early in the season and on a Sunday so no issue with space availability though I could see it becoming more difficult later in the summer. Piers are fixed, wood in very good condition as are the power, water hookups. Virtually no tidal drop (less then 2 feet) so no real need to continually tend docking lines. Assistance with docking was pretty standard with someone waiting after a radio call and doing a good job. Check-in was quick with even a few "goodies" thrown in. Price is on the upper end but not too out of range for mid-upper Bay marinas. The best part are the amenities. We plan this stop as a fun destination. The beach has lounge chairs with umbrellas and numerous "toys"- kayaks, paddle boards... All "free" to use. There is a large pool, nice pool bar and decent restaurant. Across the street is another snack-bar type restaurant

with a pretty decent short order menu including breakfast. There is an even more extensive beer and wine selection. There are sodas and a few supplies though no real groceries. The main restaurant has a good menu, prices are fair, quality above average. We didn't need fuel or pump out but from past experience the fuel dock is easily accessible and assistance is fine. They advertise free WiFi but do not have their own system relying on Annapolis Wireless. The signal was weak pretty much everywhere, fading in

AT Ease at Herrington South, 2016-05-28
Captain: , Crown point, in (70)

Stopped for fuel, a dump out and lunch. Dock attendant was great! Easy in and out and very helpful. Good fuel price. Only downside...Mangos wasn't open yet...our bad.

Resort marina, 2016-05-15
Captain: , Jacksonville Fl (1550)

Very nice place, clean and well kept. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Wish we had more then one night to enjoy. Will stop here again.

Update, did stop again, 5/13/16. Same comments, good fuel pricing and free pumpout.

First Class Experience, 2016-05-13
Captain: , Harrington Harbour South (95)

One of our best stays northbound from Oriental. Great staff and great food at the restaurant. Immaculate facilities. Gauranteed return visit.

Excellent Marina, 2015-08-15
Captain: , Woodbridge, VA (60)

Very clean and well maintained docks, grounds and facilities. Very polite, professional and helpful staff. Even the dog had a great time.

Aug 2015 - Still one of our best places to stay. The renovations to the grounds and wedding venues have enhanced the beauty.

Top notch marina, 2015-08-03
Captain: , St. Petersburg, FL (201)

Stayed one night. Bathrooms immacualte, staff very helpful, nicely manicured grounds, very nice pool, and enjoyed the restaurant. There's nothing around the marina - but the marina is top notch. Highly recommended.

Beautiful resort marina, 2015-07-10
Captain: , Merritt Island Florida (250)

This is a beautiful resort, large clean pool, good restaurant onsite, protected harbor. large gardens with picnic tables, pool bar. very busy in season, this is our second stop here. Last year came in on our way south in October and it was pretty empty, this time headed north there a lot of people vacationing here, both boaters and land dwellers. a little expensive in summer, but really nice.

Excellent choice on this part of the Bay, 2015-06-29
Captain: , Sea Cliff, NY (1075)

We were facing a day of brutally hot temps and a night of predicted strong storms, so we decided to head to a marina (we anchor out most nights). We called in the morning and were treated cordially and professionally. We scored the last slip available for the night and upon arrival we were put on the floating dock at the entrance to the marina. Great spot, as we had a wonderful view of the Bay. Good power for the a/c. Enjoyed the pool during the heat of the day.

Wild thunderstorms that night. Being docked in the inlet, along with half a dozen sail boats, was exciting to say the least. The extra lines we put out kept us safe. However, the wave action was directly into the inlet between the breakwaters and we had a wild ride. The floating dock is in two pieces and they were moving independently of each other. Just be aware that experiencing bad weather when tied to this dock can be daunting.

Overall a very good experience. Treated vey well. We will return.

Top Contender, 2015-06-02
Captain: , Shady Side, MD (20)

Might be the best marina on the Chesapeake. Beautiful grounds, huge pool, Tiki bar, sports bar, sit-down restaurant, deli/market, tropical-style beach, paddle boards, kayaks, clean, highly eco-friendly, friendly staff. It's a real party on weekends.

Good stop for DC, 2015-05-27
Captain: , Haiku, HI (251)

Nice to see a family run marina doing well and looking good. Had a nice week there, it's better for runs to DC than Annapolis especially when there are thing going on there. Only downside is that they promised to let us know if packages arrived and they didn't, and we had to pay for them to forward the packages. So if you have packages sent, check in both the downstairs and upstairs offices.

If only all marinas could be this nice, 2015-04-01
Captain: , Chester (160)

This is by far one of the nicest, cleanest, prettiest marinas I have ever seen. Well worth the trip. Self contained marina with a lot to offer. Superior maintenance and upkeep. All marinas should strive to reach this level of customer care.

Marina Resort, 2014-10-02
Captain: , Frog Mortar Creek, MD (180)

A really nice place and easy/quick acess to the Bay. This place is several notches above other marinas visited. Other than being a very upscale marina it also caters to destination weddings. Landscaping is unbelieivable. Nice outdoor bar and indoor restaurant. Bath facilities very good. Was there after the season ended and more dock hands would have been great, but those present were adequate. Ice purchased on the honor system. Would be a nice place for a land cruise to stay in one of the newly constructed apartments.

Needed fuel, 2014-09-28
Captain: , Point Marina, Whortonsville, NC (506)

Stopped here for fuel on 09/22/2014. Good service. Diesel was $3.35/gallon with BoatUS discount.

Great Boat US off season discount, 2014-09-25
Captain: , Georgetown Yacht Basin (50)

Stayed 9/11 and 9/12/14 and for a night on our way back north. Nice facility, beautiful, well kept grounds to check out, and friendly, helpful dock hands.

Beautiful Marina!, 2014-09-23
Captain: , Annapolis (127)

We were delayed getting into the marina, so they called a little before 5 (their closing time) and gave us directions on where to go. Got in and tied-up easily.

The marina is beautiful and immacutely cared for. There were weddings on both Friday and Saturday night during our stay. It was a little loud Saturday night, but would call the overall environment "festive."

The only downside to the weekend was that the pool had already been closed (Sept 19-21). They opened briefly to let owners dogs swim, but it wasn't open any other time that weekend. The beach was very nice, though, and provided an opportunity for our daughter to swim a bit.

The food at Mango's was quite good. Would rank a 7 or 8 out of 10. The drinks at the tiki bar were also great and everything was reasonably priced. The little place across the street, "Honey's" is also a great stop for breakfast or a quick beer grab. Their actual hours don't match the menu you get at the office, though, so double check!

Speaking of price, this marina offers a lot of discounts to Boat U.S. members (fuel, dockage). Was $0.10 off per gallon and something like $0.50 off per night.

Overall, we had a great stay. The slip holders there are fantastic people and very generous with their outreach to transients.

Fancy Marina - a destination in itself, 2014-09-21
Captain: , Oriental, N.C. (352)

Excellent facility. Very clean and well organized for the transient boater. Some shoaling near the end of the breakwater. Our vessel draws 5.5 feet. I would not recommend tieing to their transient dock (aka Beach Pier) in a North or Northeast wind. Waves and normal harbor traffic make it a poor location.

Gem of the Bay, 2014-09-15
Captain: , Bear Cr,MD (145)

Couldn't agree more with the other reviews. this place is a gem with a well run facility, staff, and ammenities. We stay here at least 2x's per year and look forward to returning. A top notch marina.

great place to stop, 2014-09-08
Captain: , Occoquan, VA (354)

one night stay 21 July 2014, 2014-08-02
Captain: , Colonial Beach, VA (650)

Everythinig fantastic from making reservations to leaving the factility. First rate facilities, wifi and staff. We were traveling with a group of boats and the staff got the majority of us on one dock -- at a busy time. Will come again.

1st Time But Definitely Not Last , 2014-06-19
Captain: , Browns Cove, MD (402)

I just spent 2 nights at this beautiful resort property and had a blast. As a transient, we were given a side tie on B Pier, which has just been reconditioned. This was an absolutely fantastic location close to the pool, restaurant, bath house, etc. As others have said, there is also a building with 8 private bath suites that is not a lot farther than the ones located in the harbor master's building. Some might find it a bit raucous with the pool, pool side bar and restaurant all right there, but I loved it and once back on the boat we couldn't hear much at all. The mile long walk around the property is truly like a nature walk and a nice way to get some exercise, see some nice boats and meet friendly people. The property is immaculate, well maintained and staff is very helpful. It is a large property but well laid out. I would agree with another reviewer that a simple map with your welcome packet would be a nice addition, but it's not hard to learn your way around. I cannot wait to go back!

Premo Resort, 2014-06-10
Captain: , Grand Haven (470)

Tne grounds at this marina/resort are the finest that we have encountered. That is a well protected port with swimming at the beach or at a large pool with life guard. Resturant and bar with food at pool side. The only thing that held me back from a 5 star rating is the shortage of showers. The showers that they had were very clean.

Almost a five star., 2014-05-07
Captain: , Bristol, RI (386)

This is a fine marina. But they don't have what transients need: namely a packet of info including internet log-in, map(s) showing where restrooms are (one is in a 3rd bldg accross the parking lot) where trash cans are, where the restaurant is, what's in the local area, etc. etc.

Great Stop, 2013-10-07
Captain: , Quoset Daviseville Naval Yacht Club (250)

Diesel 3.76 with Boat US Discount
1.83 foot transient with Boat US Discount

Beautiful marina that looks more like a park than a marina. Fantastic place to walk around. Pool was closed October 6 when we arrived but they have 2 beautiful beaches. Lots of water sports toys available to use which are included in trans price. Restaurants limited although they have one in marina but we have not tried it. Deli near by with limited groceries.

Bathrooms and showers are clean and 5 star, entire facility and beauty of location is breath taking.

I will stop here everytime I am in area from now on. Just spectacular stop.

Perfect Month long stay, 2013-10-02
Captain: , Weston, VT (570)

We leave in a few days after a month visit. Arrived the day after Labor day. An inauspicious start as we called 5 times on the radio, 3 on 9 and 2 on 16 as we entered the harbor and never received a response. We pulled to the fuel dock and waited. After 10 minutes a young, inexperienced dock hand arrived. He directed us to a slip which after getting everything hooked up we were told he put us in the wrong slip and thus had to move. After that everything was great and the facility deserves a five star. We were off the boat the first two weeks so missed the pool. It remained open for two weekends only after Labor Day. Gorgeous grounds. Small but functional gym. Pool side bar. Many weddings which were fun to observe. The two towns are not close and a car is really helpful. Herrington North has all you need in the way of marine services and a West Marine. Everyone here was friendly. We absolutely will return.

Herrington Harbor South, 2013-09-30
Captain: , Sandwich (722)

The grounds are stunning. There is a 1-mile walkway around entire marina. The bath/showers are private and kept clean. The pool closes after labor day. There is an onsite restaurant/bar. Honors BoatUS for fuel and dockage. There is a limited variety store across the street and the closest town (North Beach) is 3 mile walk.

Great Off Season rates, 2013-09-25
Captain: , Solomons (20)

We usually avoid this marina during the summer due to its high rates and noise but we love it during the off season. Great Boat US rates and quite. As always the staff couldn't be nicer. The grounds are beautiful.

Destination Marina, 2013-08-28
Captain: , Pennsville, NJ (195)

Overnighted here on June 27th, 2013. Great place between Annapolis and Solomons. Plenty of activities for whole family. Beach, kayaks, paddleboats, tremendous pool, etc. Docks are dated but wholly adequate, staff friendly. Will make this our destination for vacation next year instead of a one night stopover.

A Jewel of the Chesapeake, 2013-07-22
Captain: , Baltimore (529)

Herrington Harbour South is one of the nicest marinas we have visited from Florida to Maryland. The staff are amazing - the fuel dock staff went out ouf their way to help us with a FREE pumpout. The dockhand helped us tie-up and spent 15 minutes explaining all of the features of the marina, and near-by shops. The pool and resturrant are resort quality.
The piers are not floating but a very minor issue.

Excellent Facility and Location, 2013-07-21
Captain: , Cherry Hill (378)

Staying here as I write on 7/21/12. Dock hand very skilled and efficient. Pool very large and cooled down to low 80s where every other pool on the Bay was low 90s. Excellent on site restaurant at Mangos with good food. Grounds were well kept and clean. We are staying at the Inn which is a beautiful location right at the waters edge. Need to come back here in late fall or early spring. Only complaint is that the pool and pool bar were a bit crowded with non boaters (aka bikers). Other than that, great place!

Put this on your must visit list., 2013-07-01
Captain: , Beverly Beach, MD (10)

We visited on June 8-10, 2013. Very friendly and helpful staff, we had to borrow a hose for water hookup. All slip holders and guest were nice. They were hosting 5 weddings on Satuday and Sunday so there was plenty of interesting activity. Live entertainment was ok. Very clean facilities, nice large pool-closed at 8 PM (too early). Outdoor bar was open late. We will visit again.

loved it, will definitely return, 2012-10-17
Captain: , Freeport, ME (257)

We stayed here on a weekend in October and it was beautiful. The grounds are immaculate and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We were in the area for a Friday night wedding and were able to get a slip on the west side near the tent. The only power available was 50 amp but the office had loaner splitters available for our 30 amp cord. We can't wait to go back!

Herrington Harbour South, 2012-10-15
Captain: , Pelican Marina, Elizabeth City, NC (131)

We had reserved a spot in Herrington North, but after being incorrectly directed by Skipper Bob, we ended up in Herrington South. It's a nice facility, has all amenities, but nothing nearby. We had a 20 mile trip to pick up a rental car for the Annapolis show. Clean and helpful.

Location, location, location!, 2012-09-22
Captain: , Arnold, MD (263)

With transient rates at the high end of the spectrum, HHS is a bit pricey for what you get. What you get is location. Situated about half way between Annapolis and Solomons, and with direct access to the Chesapeake Bay, HHS is the perfect (and pretty much the only) stopover for boats transiting these two popular destinations. The marina is well maintained and well managed. It has a nice pool, nice grounds, and a good bar and restaurant. However, the docks are fixed and outdated. Many of the slips are cramped, and maneuvering in the narrow channels between them can be challenging. The bathroom facilities are just so so. Also, at times, we have found the staff to be less than helpful. The marina is quite isolated from other area facilities, however, across the street is a family-operated 7/11 type deli offering a good breakfast and lunch as well as few grocery items. Although we are not impressed with the value, we stop several times a year at HHS because of - - you guessed it - - location, location, location!

Great Place but slow fuel pium,ps., 2012-07-19
Captain: , Galena, MD (80)

This is one of the most beautiful marinas on the East Coast. We stayed on the beach pier which is like being anchored out because you have a 360 degree view of the water. The only negative I can find is that it took me 2 hours to take on 350 gallons of fuel (3 gallons per minute). The price was good but they need faster pumps.

Great weekend destination, 2012-07-15
Captain: , Glenwood, MD (385)

As you pass through the channel into Herrington Harbor South you find yourself in another world. Palm trees, beach, huge pool and Mangos Bar and grill... Lots of fun. nice staff. I will be back before the year is over.

Kept a boat here several years ago, but have been here as a transient since then. This is the the place to keep your boat. It's a nice stopover, but it is near nothing. Fuel dock, staff, pool, facilites, little beach are all terrific. The tiki bar in the summer is fun and the on-site Restaurant is adequate.

More of a Resort... Giant pool, pool bar, good food, deli across the street too... Showers are spotless and there is a choice of showers including private facilities! Beach on the bay, seconds to the bay, landscaped, manicured and just great! We were going to sail to the Solomons but we decided to stay here instead of continuing our trip south! A great decision... Ya gotta love this place!!!

Pricey, beautiful landscaping but other parts very average, 2011-07-19

$173.00 for a 43' boat for a Friday night on a non holiday weekend is expensive for the Chesapeake. They insist on using length including pulpit and swim platform not the registered length. Beautiful landscaping and grounds but only a small bar/restaurant. No other facilities nearby. The emphasis is on catering for weddings.

Pleasant Surprise, 2011-05-18

We radioed ahead to make a reservation and arrived about 4:30PM on Friday, May 13th. The slip fee with a Boat US discount was the least expensive of our entire trip from North Miami as was the fuel price after a 300 gallon quantity discount and a Boat US discount.

It was after the 5PM closing (pre-season hours) when we finished fueling, but one of the dock hands (a young lady) stayed to insure that we were safely in our slip.

We enjoyed dinner at Mangoes restaurant on premise and were treated to a drink by the owner.

Our whole experience was fantastic.

Very nice marina, picturesque and well maintained, nice pool. Nearby dining is limited to the on-site restaurant which is so-so.

It is a resort and there are plenty of amenities. Not a bad price if you stay for a month. Crowded and tight and the staff kids are a bit green. Managers are good folks.
If you're a deep drafted vessel, like us, pick your tide coming in. It is a bit skinny.

Excellent place. We got a transient slip way in the back. I thought we were in a different zip code we were so far back. Awesome place though with great restrnt and bar.

It is a first-class resort with pool, lots of activities, and all the amenities. Many of the boats there are waterfront property and never go out. There are usually two weddings every weeend and it can get a little frenetic during party events. Most of the full-timers are on the starboard side when entering (a little quieter there). Good restaurant and decent sandwich shop across the street. Many really good restaurants and shops in North Beach and Chesapeake Beach nearby.

Need a place to stay short or long-term, this is it; you'll find no better accomodations. It's amazing that a place designed to bed water craft can be so eco friendly and still keep their eye on the ball. Is there a 6 star rating, they'd deserve it.

We spent the night here on the way down the bay and enjoyed the time. The food was great at the pool side resturant. We could not get over the time they spend on the landscape. The bad part was that it gave my wife all kinds of thoughts of what she wants me to do back home.

We overnighted on way up the Bay, and again on way back to Potomac to/from Baltimore July 14-16. This truely is a "Resort" Marina! The grandkids spent evenings in the olympic size pool while the adults dinned poolside with great food from Mango's bar, also poolside. Saunas, exercise room and all the trimmings of a Carribean resort!

Spent an enjoyable day here despite having our reservation lost. They managed to find us a decent slip after we tied up at the fuel dock. Great food, popular place means the pool was crowded. Clean heads/showers.

The Yacht Club I belong to has taken a trip to this marina for a weekend every year and it has always been a great experience. Good food, good drinks, and great service. I recommend that you stop and enjoy.

The ultimate resort on chesapeake bay. Mango's Resturaunt Bar and Grill has some of the best food in the area. A Harbour Inn houses your guests with amenities galor to include wedding facilities, tennis courts, fuel, private beach, laundry facilities, pool, fitness center, salon, gift shop and shower houses, not to mention the best boatong neighbors you can find. The grounds are inpecable with picnic tables and grills to cook. If I could I would rate it a 10 out of 10.
