Reviews for Herrington Harbour North
Great Stay, 2016-11-13
Captain: , Annapolis (262)

David in the marina office made us feel right at home. Wonderful stay, great facility and services. May want to come back some day to find ourselves a slip here.

It's now Spring 2016 and we are new slipholders at HHN. Can't wait to enjoy the new season and take advantage of all the amenities and activities.

UPDATE 11/13/16 - Boat just hauled out for season. HHN haul out crew was highly professional and took every precaution to ensure correct blocking, including sounding hull for best strong points to locate jack stands. Kuddos to all.

Impressive Facility, 2016-10-24
Captain: , Baltimore, MD (216)

The condition of the docks and finger piers is top notch. The finger piers are 4' wide and full length. We have got to come back in-season. The walking paths between docks and restaurant are like a park with nature conservancy all along the water's edge - informational wildlife signs dotted throughout. Very professional operation with services available for all sorts of boating issues.
Looking forward to next season.

Excellent time, 2016-09-25
Captain: , Traceys Landing (10)

Fantastic place to stay. Facilities are top notch and the service was excellent. They even had movie night on the lawn with free popcorn! This is the place to come for a great stay.

Good value for a week's stay, great facilities, 2016-08-23
Captain: , North East, MD (356)

Edit: I was informed by management that they have a shuttle up to 15 miles, which we did not know. Upgraded to 5 stars.

We paid under $200 for a week's stay in April 2016. Would be 5 stars but the nearest grocery store is 4 miles away and the nearest town is 2 miles away. But the washrooms, pool, and grounds are great. Loaner bikes are available.

I would give is place a 10, 2016-08-14
Captain: , Lighthouse Point, Fl (320)

SAFE RETURNS 65 ft Fairline Squadron
This is the nicest Marina we have ever stayed in for many reasons. They have over a mile of paved walking trails. In and out of pick nick tables and barbecue grills. Dog walking areas over a mile long with baggies. As you walk they have little signs about the plants, trees, and animals you might see. They have many repair companies for your boat right on premises. Clean bath rooms and showers and laundry. Restaurant on premises is very good. Tons of dock carts all over so you don't have to hunt!!! Staff is first class. We had Teresa checks us in and the week stay was perfect just like she said it would be. Pool. We really felt like it was a resort. Oh the docks are in great shape as well. I would give this place 10 stars if I could

Been Meaning to Stop here for Years, 2016-07-18

Finally stopped and what a nice place. Resort. Folks are excellent too.

best of the best, 2016-07-16
Captain: , mobile, al (121)

Would give a 6 star review if possible. The office (Lucy) went way past what was expected. I needed some parts for my engine. The office made sure I was in a great location for my stay. They couldn't do enough for the boaters. Beautifully maintained marina. Only drawbacks are that the laundry (only one on campus) has only two machines and there is not much close by. However, the staff even drove us to the grocery store and waited for us to get what we needed. The stay here coupled with finding a truly competant and honest Volvo mechanic (Karl's Marine Engine Service 4433361264) made the stay - though lengthy - very pleasant.

Herrrington Harbour Marinas are a MUST on the Chesapeake Bay, 2016-05-06
Captain: , New London, CT 06320 (20)

Sailed to the Chesapeake from CT and were lucky enough to be told about Herrington Harbour North and South. We had the opportunity to stay at both. These are two of the finest marinas on the east coast if not the entire USA. Beautful grounds with all facilities excellently maintained. Full services available at both. The staff from the top down could not have been more knowledgable, helpful, efficient, and just downright friendly 100% of the time. This is a great place from which to explore both the eastern shore and the cities and towns of the western Bay. It is well worth your visit and very reasonably priced if that is a concern for you.

Phillps Boat Works at Herrington Harbor North Near Deale, Maryland, 2016-05-03
Captain: , Tracys Landing, Maryland (41)

This business is very professional and offers excellent service. All the work and service they have done for us have been of the highest quality. Phipps has done bottom work and thru-hull replacements on our Catalina 42 and their work is very high quality! We highly recommend them.

Awesome Marina, 2015-12-26
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale (20)

Ended up here with Fuel problens on a delivery in late December 2015 and ended up spending Christmas here. Lucy and the staff were very helpful with docking and who to use for getting the boat fixed and on ort way. Matt at Shoreline Fuel Services worked for 8 hours Polishing our fuel till our tank was super clean, if anyone needs fuel polishing I highly recomend giving Matt a call.

Dockside Rest. is very good as being here at the marina for 5 days fixing things we got to know the menu very well. If you need a top quality and very friendly place to stay for pleasure or emergency, Herrington Harbour North is at the top of my list!

Absolute favorite marina., 2015-12-17
Captain: , Austin, Texas (140)

HHN is hands down the best marina/yacht yard I've ever been in. The large marina facility has all the amenities, and is constantly under improvement. With multiple contractors on site, including West Marine, you can get any service your boat needs. The marina staff is top notch as well, and will cheerfully go out of their way to assist. I have traveled long distances to reach Herrington Harbour North when I needed professional services for our 40 year old boat, and would do it again.

Great facility for a slip or to stow your boat., 2015-11-01
Captain: , St. Petersburg, FL (210)

We stayed here a year. 6 months on the hard and 6 months in a slip. The staff will take care of all your needs. They launched my boat when I couldn't be here and put it professionally in a slip. I had several items mailed here and they held it until I could pick it up. The grounds are well taken care off. and most of the boat owners are very friendly. They have several companies on location or nearby that do just about anything you need done on a boat.

Wonderful Service and Facilities, 2015-07-17
Captain: , Dover, DE. (40)

We had a great 5 day stay. The grounds and facilities are immaculate and the staff is wonderful. We had work done by on-site Shiver Me Timbers and Marine Technical Services and were extremely pleased with both companies. This is a GREAT marina!

Simply Fabulous, 2015-07-16
Captain: , Ocala FL (351)

This is NOT your average Marina, it is a RESORT area for mariners! The grounds are kept to park conditiion and include naration boards on local flora and fauna.
We had AC work done by "Shiver Me Timbers" and they resolved issues that had been plaguing us for months! Fast, courteous and well priced!
The only thing they need is their own fuel dock, but, that is available at their South facility.

Beautiful and reasonable weekly rate, 2015-06-11
Captain: , Fort Worth, TX (450)

Grounds, docks, pool, walkways, staff are fantastic. They gave us a reasonable weekly rate. Electric and pumpout work great. Will return often

You will love HHN!, 2015-01-30
Captain: , Dahlgren (30)

December 2014 we bought a sailboat that was on the hard at HHN. We were responsible for having the boat splashed then hauled and blocked after the sea trial. After the purchase, we looked for a good weather window to move the boat across the Bay to a friend's marina where we will have some minor repairs made.

The staff at Herrington (Tracy, Lucy, David, and the Harbormaster whose name I have forgotten) were lovely, gracious, knowledgeable, and helpful. Storage was prorated, and we were given ample time to move the boat (no charge) once she was launched and put in a slip awaiting good weather. There was no feeling that they were trying to get every last penny out of me.

Here's the thing. All marinas are going to launch your boat and haul your boat, but at Herrington, they appreciated my scheduling needs and accept my problem as their problem to solve without telling me of the difficulties involved. They were great!

The best so far, 2014-10-15
Captain: , Catawba Island, OH (523)

We left a month ago from Lake Erie and this is the best marina we have ever been to so far. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained, the restrooms and showers are clean and well kept, and the people are very nice. The restaurant that is on site is closed for renovation so we didn't get to check that out. We liked the restaurant across the creek, which we dinghyed to, called Skippers Pier. Great food, and it is just across from C dock where we stayed. It is also a 15-20 minute walk to more restaurants and a hardware store. The marina has free bikes, and they also offered to drive us to a grocery store if we needed that. There is a West Marine on the marina grounds. Great place...would definitely stay here again.

Also a mention for Shiver Me Timbers, the refrigeration/AC service company on site. They troubleshooted our AC system for no charge.

In need of repairs, 2014-09-25
Captain: , Tonawanda,NY (261)

We were towed in by tow boats us with no engine and no steering.
This Marina was able to take care of all my problems. Great staff.

Intersesting to Visit and walk the docks, 2014-08-08
Captain: , Middle River (130)

The marina does not have the resort feel that Herrington South does, but it is exceptionall well maintained and friendly Any boat service you can imagine is redily available. We love to walk docks in the evening and look at the variety of boats and with like 18 piers, you can easily spend an evening looking around. Well worth a visit.

#1 Marina on the Chesapeake Bay, 2014-07-30
Captain: , Tracys Landing (35)

We've been live-aboards for five years at HHN and love it. The staff is always helpful and friendly. The owner is dedicated to taking care of slipholders and guests and to maintaining a "green" facility. All services are available here and are provided by knowledgeable folks. The grounds are park-like and always well maintained. This is a big city marina in a small fishing village located out in the countryside away from all the hustle and bustle of populated areas but you can still get everything you need within a short walk. Sailing in this area is less congested than what you'll find further north of here and there's easy access to the Choptank, Little Choptank and Eastern Bay from here. Somehow even the wind is better as you approach Herring Bay.

Marina with high respect for ecology and nature and more., 2014-07-22
Captain: , Lac Champlain (105)

Marina with high respect for ecology and nature.

We kept the boat in the water outside during the winter period, we had the opportunity to do work, today we docked.

The service is impeccable, the staff are very courteous and available for questions. The docks are solid, easy to approach and easy to dock.

The location is great for short trips to many of the best destination on the Bay. The grounds are very nice

Access to the pool is nice, just past the garden. Quiet, calm and great. There are good restaurants ready, simply move with the dinghy.

Good Marina, 2014-05-19
Captain: , Rhode Island (106)

The docks are fixed, which is not usually a problem as the tides are approx 2'.

Strong east winds can make it bumpy on the outside of C dock. Pumpout is free if you stay overnight and use the pumpouts at the end of C-Dock. The marina will assist you with the pumpout, but it is self-service.

We keep closer to the green markers with our deep draft. The water is shallowest near the Jetty in our experience. We have had at least 9.5 feet of water at all times in the channel at high tide. With 7.5 feet of draft on our boat, we usually wait for medium to high tide to go in/out just in case we are crowded away from the green markers. In our experience, that means we can leave when we see at least 8' of water while tied to the south end of C dock. Stay in the channel.

As for amenities, there are private showers, a pool, bikes, kayacks, lots of outside places to grill, etc...

Nice place, friendly staff, 2014-05-14
Captain: , Hampton, VA (310)

We had no problems. Folks were nice. They helped with docking. They gave us a souvenir plastic glass, nice quality, with their logo. They have bikes you can use for free.

They DON'T do Active Captain discounts. Told us $2 was cheap enough.

Fixed docks, a storm and 2 foot higher than normal tides made it interesting, but we did OK. Our Hunter 36 fit just fine and we didn't drag anywhere. Didn't see water less that 8 feet deep. Good electric, good fresh water and nice clean pump out equipment (free).

The place feels like a Marina Theme Park. The grounds are beautifully kept and there are all sorts of nautical stores scattered about. Having West Marine a half mile walk was reall a life saver as we'd been damaged in a bad storm and had to repair our main.

Not a nice Marina for your boat., 2014-05-12
Captain: , Annapolis, Md (120)

Location is good, but beware the ever more shallow channel. We bumped bottom twice last year and we have a 5' 3" draft. They guarantee deeper....but. Also, the slips are wonderful if you have a small boat. Fairways are narrow, and they allow huge boats to go into slips that don't fit them. Lot's of anchors and davits sticking out several feet. We were there two seasons and it got worse every year. Finally, last year we left in November for another marina. They sent me a bill in March for 34.00 saying that was the minimum charge for electric for our slip and even though we notified them we were leaving because THEY were not honoring their contract agreement to restrict boats from hanging out of their slips, the office manager just kept saying "the contract states", over and over again. Also, they put a boat across from us that was thrown out of Herrington South for "behavioral problems" and for two months we had to put up with 1000 watt blaring musing at all hours on the weekend, threats to other boaters, drunken partiers running up and down the docks, and one fine evening the boat owner, drunk on the dock, and pointing a gun at different boats.
They have great amenities but are very uncaring about what goes on at the docks.

Herrington Harbour North, 2014-03-09
Captain: , Deale, MD (10)

We keep out boat at HHN and feel that it is one of the best marinas on the Bay. The docks are kept in great shape, the grounds are very nice, and the service is good. We like the ability to do our own work in the yard. The location is great for short trips to many of the best destination on the Bay.

Pricey but everything is here, 2014-02-26
Captain: , Edmonton (279)

West Marine and every marine service imaginable is on-site. Very nice facilities, a DIY-friendly boatyard, and oil/antifreeze recycling make it a good place to do maintence/repairs/refits. A bit isolated, but the basics are not too far, in Deale and Churchton. With a rental car, Annapolis, Baltimore and DC are easily visited.

Great getaway place, 2013-08-13
Captain: , Londontowne, MD (470)

I won't repeat everything already said, but all the good reviews are right on target and we always enjoy our stays at HHN -- the most recent being a single overnighter on 8/13/12. As usual, staff was friendly and efficient, the grounds are well laid out and maintained, the pool is great (sometimes on weekends with the bar staffed and grill fired up), most any marine service one could wish for is on site... and our only slight gllitch this last time was because we chose to be there on a Monday, forgetting that both Calypso Bay and Skippers restaurants are closed on Mondays. (Our ooops; obviously not the marina's fault.) If this marina had floating docks too, instead of fixed, I'd probably rate it an 8 on a scale of 1-to-5.

8/13 update: Ditto all that! We held an Owners' Club party at the marina, and everyone bent over backwards to make it easy and enjoyable, even including additonal indoor preparations in case we had to deal with rain! Still excellent!

Herrington North, 2013-07-11
Captain: , Bodkin Creek Md. (207)

Very nice marina with a great pool and fantastic free Sunday Brunch. Friendly staff and restaurant in walking distance.

Truly professional set up, 2013-07-01
Captain: , Hamble, UK (876)

We hauled here for the winter. The boat lift crew are extremely professional and keep clean slings, plus black-bagged "cushions" to further protect the hull. They managed to position us near a 50 amp electric supply. We were surprised how clean the boat was on our arrival back 6 months later - we have lifted in the Med and the Caribbean and have usually come back to a very sadly grubby boat. The office staff as many mention, are lovely and nothing is too much trouble. I broke my leg at the end of the season and they kindly ferried us round to the hotel at Herrington South. They had also taken me to the grocery store a few times.

We struggle with the depth drawing 7.2' and have found that a berth on D dock or, at a squeeze, I Dock are OK. As a European boat they only have a few berths with 50 amps but managed to accommodate all our needs. We found that we needed favourable weather conditions (high tide, southerly wind, low pressure etc) to feel confident in maneuvering!

Whilst fitting out we used several of the businesses there and in particular found Aric of Chesapeake Marine Engineering, incredibly skilled and helpful, and Atlantic Spars and Rigging were prompt and efficient in the couple of small jobs we needed done.

We would highly recommend this marina. It is beautifully landscaped (we saw snapping turtles of various sizes in their eco marsh area) with a pool. Perhaps the only improvement would be a larger (where you could fold your sheets between you) and air-conditioned laundry! On occasions the showers/toilets suffer pressure of numbers as there are not that many facilities for such a large site. But these are tiny comments in view of such a professional operation.

The Best I've Seen, 2013-05-26
Captain: , Deltaville VA (140)

A beautiful marina with an attention to the grounds that rivals Disney. Fuel is nearby. Dockage was $75 Total for a 42' boat. Very nice.
.

One of the Best, 2013-05-17
Captain: , Deale, Maryland (20)

One of the best marinas on the east coast. Full range of facilities and contractors, West Marine store, park-like surroundings, friendly responsive staff.

Best of both worlds, 2013-04-16
Captain: , Annapolis (135)

Great amenities:
- pool
- grills
- chandlery
- restaurant
- etc.

But also a place where you can either work on your own boat or get work done. Some of the shops (like Phipps) do phenomenal work. Others seem to take advantage of their location. YMMV

1st Class DIY yard with superb service, 2012-11-02
Captain: , Washington, DC (435)

I've hauled here twice now; once for a year refit and this time for a quick sand and paint. Hurricane Sandy kept us here and we had a chance to watch the crew in action. They are truly a first class operation; probably 30 employees or so, 4 travel lifts, and every service you could imagine AND YOU CAN STILL WORK ON OUR OWN BOAT!

We can't recommend them enough; couldn't think of hauling somewhere else

Not really in Deal, 2012-10-17
Captain: , Babylon NY (331)

Very large marina. Fixed docks. Restaurant at the road which can be a long walk.

Great Marina!!, 2012-09-27
Captain: , Solomons, MD (882)

Let's see, a nice-size swimming pool, a cute little snack shop, at least two restaurants within walking distance, beautiful grounds, a West Marine on site, and a bunch of repair facilities. The only thing missing is a grocery store within walking distance and/or a courtesy car. During the summer there is a trolley, but a car would be better. Even with that little flaw, I give it 5 stars. BTW, I never saw a snooty person. In fact, the management appeared ready to work with us on just about anything.

Agree with America 444, 2012-09-11
Captain: , Montauk, NY (10)

Lovely marina. Downright beaautiful but has some folks who are pretty smug and stuck up. Detracts from the joy of being there.

Complete package, 2012-07-17
Captain: , Montreal, PQ, Canada (560)

Very nice marina with botyard. Marina is well maintained, nice grounds with grassy areas and trees, big pool, clean bathrooms. Huge boatyard with all sorts of sub-contractors shops on the premices. West marine and small market also on-site.

Snooty Folks!, 2012-06-06
Captain: , Chalreston, SC (40)

Beautiful marina with snooty folks!

Best overall marina to keep your boat., 2012-06-03
Captain: , Springfield, VA (130)

We have kept our boat at HHN since 2005 and continue to be amazed at the owner's investment in every aspect of the marina. When a dock plank begins to look worn you will soon see it being replaced. If you call the office to report a problem, a work order is assigned to it and follow-up is done until completed.

Meanwhile new improvements are seen routinely. This year a new playground for the kids and a new convenient store all accompanied by beautiful masonry and gardening additions.

While in Deale, MD you must eat at Petie Greens Restaurant. It is without a doubt the best. It's about a mile from HHN, but well worth the trip!

We would highly recommend this marina to anyone looking for a good place to keep their boat. It is the best that we have experienced and we have stayed in numerous marinas on the east coast.

One of the classiest places we've ever been to., 2012-05-30
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (578)

HHN has it all and keeps adding more. Great pool, workout room, wifi, West Marine on site, four individual rest rooms plus two sets of communal style. And, now they've just added a small deli that is open from Thursday through Sunday. We stayed here for ten months and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's normally out of our price range but because we came in late in the season, and they had empty slips, we got a good deal. The staff are business-like but friendly and we greatly appreciated their efforts to haul us out as Irene was approaching in 2011. They also have nice social events. Our only gripe was that our slip was not very easy to get in and out of. The configuration of the docks was such that we had very tight turns that sometimes caused a bit of anxiety. (It's hard to always know where a sailboat will go in reverse.) The docks closest to the bridge are the most protected but can also be warmest. The ones further south (going up towards the beginning of the alphabet are more exposed to southerly wind. We were on J dock. We also found that, for whatever reason, most of the other slip holders were very friendly--something we've noted lacking in other places we've stayed for extended times. Some marinas are quaint and have lots of character--HHN is not one of those. But, if you like your ammenities and have a need for any kind of marine service, this is the place. Live-aboards are welcome and pay an extra monthly fee.

Great Marina & Yard, 2012-02-18
Captain: , Edenton, NC (91)

HHN is a great quite marina! And it's a full working yard. Very clean docks and grounds. You need to head to HHS for fuel. The Staff pays attention to the small details. You can walk or dink to several places to eat.

Nice marina., 2011-10-17
Captain: , Boston (232)

We enjoyed our stay at the marina on our way south. The fixed docks are in good condition. The office staff is very friendly and accomodating. The off-season rate of $1.50/ft was appealing. The facility has a variety of marine services including a West Marine retail store. The grounds are well maintained and a pleasure to walk.

Our home port, 2011-10-02
Captain: , Herrington Harbour, MD (680)

A great place with first class service. Good internet, several travel lifts, good storage on the hard, two motor shops, canvas and paint shops too. Even a resturant and a large West Marine on site.
If there was one thing that was a pain, it is the pump out system.
Put a locking system in place as the present system took us an houir to pump out the boat.

One of the better marinas on the bay, 2011-09-01

Odyssey spent 2 months here. It could not have been any better. Everything in gthe other reviews is true. People were extremely friendly. The marina is in great shape. West Marine on property is extremely convenient. Only complaint is noise from the TIKI bar on the weekends. We were on P dock (2 from TIKI bar) and it was pretty loud.
Highly recommended. Needed to keep moving south or we would have stayed here permanently!

Great Marina / Best place for Winter Haul, 2011-08-17
Captain: , Annapolis (795)

There is nothing wrong with this place. Huge winter storage yard, lots of tradesmen on site, West Marine on site, nice pool, excellent staff, great bath houses. I usually haul my boat in the winter here.

The CLASSIEST Marina on the Bay!, 2010-07-26
Captain: , Cornwall PA (421)

This place defines classy marina. From the pool, to the tiki bar/restaurant, to the array of marine-related businesses (repairs, canvas, A/C & refrigeration, painting, even a West Marine onsite) your every need is accommodated. You can recycle all types of trash including motor oil, batteries, you name it. And the grounda are IMPECCABLY clean and well manicured.

HHN - haulout and winter storage, 2010-07-21
Captain: , Leesburg VA (155)

We hauled out for winter 2009/10. Plenty of space to drive car up to where boat is stored. Electricity and water easily accessibile. Both HHS and HHN are class facilities; grounds and shower facilities are clean. West Marine on HHN premises and hardware stores within a couple of miles in Deale MD. Convenient for making those trips to obtain supplies etc. Recommended

The BEST, 2008-09-12

Every possiable service, beautiful park like setting , very low rates($180 wk for a 49' boat w/ electric), super helpful personnel. This place sets the bar.

Very nice marina. Half the docks are brand new. The pools is great after a hot day of working on the boat. Excellent contractors onsite. Great staff.

The approach however is a bit dicey. While marked at 7ft, that is only if the tide is +1.5ft. I typically have two three hour windows in which I can get in and out (draft 6.4). Otherwise there is a decent anchorage just outside the marina.

Exceptional, 2007-02-05
Captain: , Castine, ME (59120)

This is an exceptional marina and repair yard. They hauled my boat twice and did wonderful work finishing ahead of schedule (how many times does has that happened to you?). They are always helpful and professional. As I cruise between Key West, the Bahamas, and home in Maine, this is the place I try to stop at to have work done. If I could give them 10 stars, I'd do it.

Nice facility, transient slips available, pumpout, pool, picnic sites, restaurant & bar, West Marine on marina grounds. Clean and well kept. No fuel at marina but available nearby.
