Reviews for Heritage Harbor Ottawa
Very Nice Marina - Looper Friendly, 2017-08-13
Captain: , Corpus Christi (356)

We had a great experience after the 4.5 hour wait at ther Marseilles Lock. Well maintained and run operation. Restroom/showers were clean and included toiletries for you if you forgot something. Nice restaurant on site - family and pet friendly. Good fuel price. Helpful staff. Loopers are welcomed with a special slip rate - $1 / foot.
We did not give it a 5 star due to no laundry on site and lack of major service capability. We will return though.

Captain: , Manitowoc (256)

After a horrible experience in the Marsielle lock where the lockmaster put lives at risk unnecessarily, Jeremy welcomed us to Heritage. As a fellow brother vet, we shared some stories.

The facilities were IMMACULATE.

Diesel discounted for loopers to $2.88/gal.

VERY impressive!

Filing complaint and charges against lock master at Marsielle.

A wonderful surprise!, 2016-09-21
Captain: , Grand Haven, MI (15)

After a three and a half hour delay at the Marseilles lock, we and two other boats can into the marina after dark. Stressed as we all were, Jeremy, the harbor master, and other staff held our hands and kept us as calm as possible. They stayed late and guided us in via VHF. They hooked us up to water and power, gave us a courtesy car the following day, lent us umbrellas when it rained, and generally made sure we had an enjoyable experience. There is a bar-restaurant on site, fuel on site, and the adjacent town has about anything you might need. We loved our two nights here. The only reason we don't give it five stars is that it doesn't have a major service facility.

HANDLES 8 BOATS AT ONCE!, 2016-09-14
Captain: , Kitchener (140)

We arrived after a long wait at the lock, very organized, had people assigned slips, had staff waiting waving arms at each one and made sure we were tied up, plugged in and briefed before leaving, all of this after hours. Bravo job well done. Nice restaurant, a must stop here I think the best one since leaving the Lake.

Great Staff, nice facilities , 2016-09-02
Captain: , Frostproof Fl (260)

Stayed here for 2 nights, couple of the guys know a lot about the river and gave us a briefing as it was flooding. We had 8 boats come in a bunch and they had all of us docked in no time. Nice pool, restaurant and bar. Bath house is a bit of a uphill walk. There is no laundry but they have a loaner car that you can use to use the town laundry. We enjoyed our stay. They are about 95 % booked with full time boats so call ahead.

New marina, 2016-08-26
Captain: , Wilmington,NC (320)

Easy in They put us on T dock. Captain Ron greeted us at the dock, tied us up and gave us information on the next part of our trip and where to stay. Very friendly. Pool. Nice restaurant at the marina. Pretty location. Nice docks.

Suggest Loopers call ahead, 2016-08-16
Captain: , Westbrook CT (277)

This marina welcomes Loopers but could be overwhelmed if a big pack arrives. Dockmaster suggested calling in advance to ensure slip availability.

Great stop, with pool and restaurant

First class all the way, 2016-08-08
Captain: , Wicomico Church (610)

Great stop over; had everything but a laundry; but staff lent a car and off to laundry..good food; easy pump out at slip etc. arranged for an immediate A/C repair

Wonderful new marina with professional caring staff., 2016-08-07
Captain: , St. Louis, Missouri (61)

Staff really cares. Courtesy car available. Wonderful restaurant. Give discounts to loopers. Great Experience! Facilities are first rate.

Wonderful marina - great staff, 2016-07-31
Captain: , Naples, FL (682)

This marina is a new development that encompasses residences around a substantial marina basin right off the river but very well protected from river traffic and debris. The marina has modern floating docks with single boat slips.
The heads and showers are in a portable building but are clean and functional. There is a good restaurant on site and a pool.
Although there is no laundry (it's coming soon in the next phase of development apparently) there is a marina courtesy car that we used to go to a large, clean and well maintained laundromat in downtown Ottawa (corner Columbus and Superior Streets). We also used the car to get to the large Kroger's grocery store.
What really makes this marina great however, is the fantastic staff. From Jeremy the harbor master, who took my call from the Marseilles Lock asking for a slip, to the four young attendants who met us at our slip and handled our lines (two on each side for an easy docking). All were courteous, responsive, friendly and super efficient. Jeremy keeps himself informed of river conditions and is happy to give advice to transients. The resident boaters are also friendly and knowledgeable on local river conditions.

Very Accomdating , 2016-07-29
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (778)

7/22/16 - We got held up at Starved Rock and didn't get into HH until after 11:00 PM. I spoke with Jeremy the Harbor Master on the phone and they stuck around to make sure we docked and fueled us for an early morning departure. Very comfortable harbor and great customer service.

Best Marinea on the Illinios river ., 2016-07-26
Captain: , Saint Charles (669)

Best place we have ever stayed on the Illinois river. Cheep fuel, cheep transit fees. good food, great docks, really great staff. clean showers, and well kept in every aspect.

A Promise is a Promise, 2016-06-03
Captain: , OREGON (10)

Mr.Fowler? ... I'm sorry this took SO LONG to write, but now in San Diego, I'm catching up on ALL the loose-ends from along the way. Remember me? .... Gary with the Bluewater? OK .... here goes.... THIS MARINA & THIS GUY WAS THE BEST ON THE ENTIRE TENN-TOM! Boaters will delight in the beautiful quality facilities, and personal service second-to-none. I was green as could be at that point, and Dockmaster Jeremy (and Team!) took me under his wing like a brother, with advice & time & help & service & EVERYTHING. Thank you thank you! Sincerely, GML

Top Notch!, 2016-03-29
Captain: , Big Rock, IL (30)

Highly recommend for the season, over night, or just for dinner.

Very good and safe stop, 2015-10-05
Captain: , Beaver Island, MI (291)

Approach is easy on right decending bank with large welcome sign. Enter with 6-7 ft and stay starboard to fuel dock in turning basin.
Young men at fuel dock well trained and delightful.
$1/ft includes clean private tolet/showers, 50 ro 30 clean power, fresh water, excellent floating docks, and great grounds for walk and play with your dog!
Restaruant had excellent food and staff was great.

Great stop, 2015-09-28
Captain: , Atlanta (770)

Stayed the night of 9/21/15. Great pump-out (2 rinses and tank treatment), used courtesy car to go to grocery. Very modern marina with clean bath/showers.

Excellent stop after Chicago, 2015-09-28
Captain: , Fort Monroe, VA (949)

Excellent stop off the river. Met at the dock by Dockmaster Jeremy Fowler who went out of his way to see we were comfortable at transient dock. Information packet he provided for the marina and city of Ottawa was best we have received during our Loop since leaving Canada. 30 and 50 Amp power is good. WIFI coverage is good. Used loaner car to go into town. Did not take advantage of onsite restaurant but menu had reasonable prices Jeremy mentioned new showers and laundry on the dock that will be inplace for 2016 season. Great facility, staff, pricing for Loopers makes this a a five star stop.

A very nice stop, 2015-09-25
Captain: , Portsmouth, VA (430)

A one night stop on 09/08/15 while completing "Loop III". Helpful dock staff met us on arrival, provided a courtesy car to the grocery, provided all the needs we required for our short stay; a longer visit would have been only better.

best marina and staff weve seen since canada., 2015-09-15
Captain: , South Portland, Maine (847)

Jeremy will provide for just about any boat need. Price very nice at $1/foot. We arrived for a night and satayed for 4, renamed this stop Velcro Marina. Curtesy car and the on site restaurant is really good.

Outstanding, 2015-09-01
Captain: , Fort Worth, TX (450)

We agree with all other reviews but want to add: Heritage Harbor does have an off-site service partner, "Quest Marine" located 1.5 miles away. They have an on-call mechanical staff. This marina also has the ability to haul out up to a 50' boat up to 30 tons. Large grass fields to walk dog. Marina manager, Jeremy is first class!

Top-notch service and brand-spanking new, 2015-08-27
Captain: , Iuka, MS (1130)

Multiple loaner cars solve the 2-3 mile distance to town issue. Great dock-hand help: 3 people met us and it wasn't even tough wind conditions. Each restroom has private shower with bath amenities supplied. We saw more depth than the guide books indicated: never less than 3' below the boat at the entrance with our 4'+ draft. Attractive grounds and real estate development. Ottawa is worth a visit, too.

An amazing place, 2015-08-02
Captain: , St. Augustine, Florida (266)

This marina is run by Jeremy the dockmaster who is sincerely concerned about the quality of boaters experience from every aspect. He is incredibly knowledgable of the river and our needs and always has time to help you out.
We were stuck here for a month due to Illinois river flooding and truly believe we were lucky to have landed here when the river was shut! The dockage is built with floating docks, well maintained and helpful dock hands at a moments notice.
The restaurant Red Dog is good and reasonable, they have a loaner car and only ask that you return it with a full tank, several grocery stores, hardware, restaurants and laundry in town.

Good Weather Hideout Great Amenities, 2014-10-03
Captain: , Green Cove Springs FL (1394)

We planned to stop here and only had a short day from Spring Brook Marina in Seneca, IL. Decided to duck in early for forcasted sever weather coming over the next few days rain and High winds. rather then pass them by for a 100 miles of unknown anchorages. Nice Contact with Jeremy the Harbor Master and Stacy a few days before hand. Loaner car for big supply run to Walmart and great recommendation for the Barber Shop "D"Antonio's " iDinner at onsite Restaruant "The Boat House" served good portions. Everything about this place is first class. Rate for AGLCA $1.00/ft Inc 50 Amp electric. Tied along side "A" Dock plenty of manuevering room. No problem for out 5 ft draft Marine Trader 50. Cable T.V. "Go Pack" Stayed from 9-30-14 through 10-3-14. Wind 25 mph with Gust on dock. May extend another day. Glad we are here! Capt Helen & Chief Engr Bob, Onboard ALLEZ! AGLCA, MTOA, USPS, USCG-ARC

A must stop, 2014-09-23
Captain: , Galena, MD (1856)

Why anyone would pass by this location is a mystery. Great rate, free cable, free loaner vehicles, floating concrete docks, dockside pump out, and a dockmaster, Jeremy, that will go out of his way to be sure your stay exceeds your expectation. On site restaurant is very good; food was wonderful and micro brews on tap.

impressive marina, 2014-09-20
Captain: , Seminole Fl (10)

Absolutely the best marina on our loop. Courtesy cars (that's with an "s") bonfire, restaurant, free pump out, nice docks, good sized town nearby by car, pool, well kept grounds, manager lives on boat on premises, staff bend over backwards to please. Got there late and restaurant stayed open for us. Waitress was a doll. If you get there after dark, keep a close watch for signs - could use lights on them. It is more than "4 stars" - we give it 5.

A Must Stop On The River, 2014-09-18
Captain: , Little River, SC (476)

Great facility, great staff, and a courtesy car to boot. After the three locks from Hell, this was a great two night stop.

It Takes Two, 2014-09-16
Captain: , Moses Lake , Wa (50)

what a wonderful Marina. had everything you could ask for, including a courtesy car. wonderful staff and on site restaurant is great. stop here if you are near.

Lots of help on arrival, great facility, 2014-09-16
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (7374)

Lots of help coming in, marina had to deal with 6 boats arriving at the same time, did a great job. Well protected harbor, nice docks with solid cleats. Restaurant, bar on site. Courtesy car for grocery runs. We plan on stopping back on our way north in the spring.

Great spot to stop, 2014-09-11
Captain: , Grand Haven, MI (674)

Many ammenities and very helpful staff. Good restaurant, loaner cars, pump out on the dock, all at very reasonable pricing. Stayed 2 days due to weather.
Highly recommend the stop.

Great Stop, 2014-09-11
Captain: , Austin, TX (877)

We enjoyed this stop. Used the courtesy van to go to Walmart and the downtown area. Ate at the Row House and had excellent meal. Also, had nachos at the marina restaurant, probably the best we've had. Very helpful, staff.

Practically Perfect, 2014-09-09
Captain: , Tarpon Springs (983)

All you could ask for with a great price and really outstanding staff. Jeremy was great. Loaner car and friendly and helpful. Keep right in the centre of the entrance. I was just a tad to starboard and saw 5'3" on the way in but 6' on the way out, dead centre. Highly recommended stop. Can't say enough good about it.

Great place in a great location, 2014-09-09
Captain: , Fort Myers Beach, FL (361)

This place has it all. The staff was awesome, the amenities were plenty and all at a great price.
We enjoyed riding the bike trail, the swimming pool, the courtesy car, etc.
The town has all the necessities, Wal Mart, grocery store, liquor store, etc.
A definate stop for everyone passing through the area.

Great Marina to stop after a long day of locking, 2014-09-08
Captain: , Bay Point Marina, Marblehead, OH (180)

After three locks, tows/barges, and a early start, we are happy to stay at this 5 star marina! They have all of the amenities including bar & grill, swimming pool, courtesy car, dockside pumpout and very new floating docks! The staff takes an interest in you and are happy to help you with all of your questions. All of this for only $1.00/foot for AGLCA members! We have decided to stay an extra day at this nice facility!

Plan to Stay Here, 2014-09-07
Captain: , Wickford, RI (550)

Easily the best marina we have encountered on the rivers. New, wide, floating docks; pool, very clean and spacious showers, courtesy car, reasonable rates, on-site bar/restaurant, vrey friendly and helpful staff. Plan your trip around a stay here.

Great Stop 2 days out of Chicago, 2014-09-06
Captain: , Roaming Shores, Ohio (10)

We planned to stop for 1 night and ended up staying 3. After a long day in the locks we came in with 5 other Looper boats. The staff notified us of the docking order prior to coming in and quickly got all the boats docked. This newer marina has it all, friendly staff, nice docks, restaurant/bar, courtesy cars, cable tv, dockside pump outs, swimming pool and Looper discount! Stacey even emailed us the morning we left, thanking us for staying and asking us for feedback on what they could do to make our stay better. We would definitely stay here again!

Fabulous marina, 2014-09-04
Captain: , Venice, Fl. (949)

This is a great marina offering $1/ft for AGLCA or BoatUS. Floating docks, restaurant & shower facilities. Several courtesy vehicles to nearby shopping.

Very nice marina but, 2014-08-31
Captain: , Meadville MS (76)

We left our boat here for a few weeks while traveling back home. The Marina and staff were wonderful could not have been more accommodating. But we would not recomend Quest, the company that handles their maintenance and detailing. We arrived late in the afternoon and did not double check to see if everything had been done that we had paid for. We learned a good lesson.

A Very Nice Marina-Great Service!, 2014-08-28
Captain: , Cape Coral, Fl (838)

We stayed here 3 nights. Nice floating docks, pool, and restrooms/showers. Staff extremely helpful and pleasant. We used the courtesy for shopping, laundry and a trip to Starved Rock State Park.

Highly Recommended, 2014-05-14
Captain: , St Charles, MO (30)

We stayed overnight in late April 2014. This is a nice marina, facilities were new, top rate environment. We had a good meal at the restaurant and enjoyed the experience.

We were late getting in, but the staff were there waiting for us when we arrived. They helped tie us off, filled us up with diesel, and pumped the holding tank. Customer service seemed to be a priority for them.

I plan to stop here my next time through!

They kept the light on for us, 2013-09-13
Captain: , Chattanooga, TN (554)

We arrived after the marina's closing time last night because of a long back up at the Marseilles Lock and were greeted by three really positive, enthusiastic dock hands. They made a great impression for the marina. The facilities themselves look new and are well planned. The marina is extremely well protected. We wish we could have spent more time there, but had to move on down the road.

STOP HERE !, 2013-09-12
Captain: , Burnt Store Marina (70)

Heritage Harbor is a terrific place - pool, restaurant, loaner car, AGLCA discount, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel in showers, pump out at boat was free and they even added their own toilet chemical and there are floating docks. Staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. Everything is brand new. No laundry yet, but there's a great laundramat in town. Town is very nice. IGA (Handy Foods) right in downtown on Main St., has good produce and you can do a complete reprovision there. They will give Loopers who stay at the town dock, a ride back to their boats - all you have to do is ask the check out person (you need to use Heritage Harbor's loaner car to get to and from town).

Nordic Tug 39

Great Place, but Watch Your Depth, 2013-09-10
Captain: , Muskegon, MI (138)

I will reiterate everything that has been said about the facilities and service. All are excellent.

However, we draft 5 feet and had a good thump going in and leaving the channel.

Loved Harborside, 2013-09-05
Captain: , Belle Maer Harbor (70)

Ron was very helpful as he docked two boats and Summer Recess within 30 minutes. They have a looper discount. All the loopers met at the pool. Shower facilities are outstanding. We stayed an extra day to have an oil change. We highly recommend Quest. They came to the boat and did a timely job. Also have a free pump out at your boat.

Heritage Harbor, 2013-09-01
Captain: , Boca raton (210)

The staff and the facilities were excellent. Courtesy car was available for Grocery shopping. Good power, staff went out of their way to assist in any way they could.
We draw 5 feet and had a hard hit going into the marina.

First Class In Every Way, 2013-08-25
Captain: , Athens, AL (641)

Easy in/out, concrete floating docks, fast WIFI at the docks, repairs/haulout, W/D, cable, private restrooms/showers, 2012 Chrysler T&C van for courtesy car ("Keep it as long as you like"), pool, 30/50 amp included in slip fee, Looper discount $1/foot, restaurant on site, fuel/diesel, can't think of anything missing. Dock help is awesome - two waiting to catch lines when we arrived and "how else can we help you attitude every time we asked a question. Example - I needed to get rid of 4 gals of oil from my last oil change in Canada. I called up and asked if they had a barrel for used oil. They said no but they would be happy to deliver it for me to a local disposal facility. They sent 2 guys down to the boat and I asked them to wait while I went into the engine room to get it. One of the guys said "I can go down there and get it for you." Most of the dockhands were teenagers but act and assist like very professional young men and women. Great job, Heritage Harbor.

gem on the Illinois , 2013-08-07
Captain: , Longboat Key, FL (445)

What a find. Off river marina, 6.5 depth entering at pool, floating docks and great dock asters, and good restaurant there. Throw in a courtesy car and you can't beat it. Cable TV as well. Wish the rest of the IL was this good.

Great Marina, 2012-10-09
Captain: , Oshkosh , WI (194)

Staff very helpful and friendly. Plenty of water coming into the marina. We arrived late in the season when they had plenty of room. Negotiated an extremely reasonable deal to leave the boat here for a week. We felt very comfortable leaving our boat unattended at this marina so we could work and take a side trip home. Enterprise rental car is just down the road and will pick you up. They also have a loaner car too. Very clean marina and supportive of Loopers!

What more could you ask for?, 2012-09-21
Captain: , Spring Lake, MI (379)

I agree with all of the praise below. Clean, beautiful, good depth in, floating docks, a good restaurant, barbeques and picnic tables, a pool, and loaner car that now has only 600 miles. This is as nice a marina as I have seen anywhere. All for $1 a ft on 9/20/12.

A Welcom Oasis on the Illinois River, 2012-09-15
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (1850)

Great docks, great people, very good shoreside amenities, perfect location along the Illinois River route. I usually don't give 5-star reviews for marinas that don't have shopping in the immediate area but this marina has such a great staff and overall vibe that it deserves five stars. After passing so many iffy looking marinas on the route it was comforting to pull into such first class facility.

Very Good Marina, 2012-08-10
Captain: , punta gorda, fl (1448)

Nice marina in a basin protected from wake. Floating docks were first class (except perhaps they could have used a few more cleats). Decent restaurant on site. Adequate heads/showers. Best courtesy car we have ever seen. Nice people. Just over 5 feet in entrance channel when we were there (and a bit deeper inside the basin).

First Class Marina, 2012-07-24
Captain: , Guntersville, AL (451)

Mark and his staff are very friendly and make an effort to provide a relaxing stay. They provide a Looper discount on transient docking and provide a courtesy car for visiting Ottawa. A good location to leave your boat if you must travel home for any reason. The restaurant is convenient and serves a good menu. The swimming pool is very relaxing on these hot summer days on the water.

Don't Miss, 2011-09-26
Captain: , Port charlotte, FL (10)

Don't miss this marina. The facilities are excellent. The Staff is always willing to help with anything you may need. Restaurant is good and again the staff is very helpful. We left our boat for 10 days and felt very confident that it was well taken care of.

Is this heaven?, 2011-09-20
Captain: , Heritage Harbor (89)

No, its Heritage Harbor! This new up and runniing forward marina is the best I've found on the river. It's got everything you could ask for GREAT docks, food, service grounds, and people. I once called it a loop stop, now I call it home with my Nordic Tug 32 Lady M. It's not only good for my soul but the Lady M loves it also. Try it!

Great facilities/Friendly People make a great stop, 2011-09-16
Captain: , Austin, Texas (1774)

New docks, Restaurant on site, Courtesy Van to give you access to grocery and a Wal Mart in Ottawa, and the friendliest people we have encountered along the Loop. Kelly will greet you at the dock and is terrific. Very reasonable rates for Loopers, plus they will discount the daily rate if you need to leave the boat to travel home. They have a van that will take you to and from Midway or O'Hare for a reasonable fee. Capt. Moe is part of their staff and is a Looper himself with great knowledge of the rivers to the south. The only negative, which they cannot control is the depth as you enter their basin. At dead center I crossed over 5 ft. It was closer to 6 as we departed keeping east of the center lline. Great stop.

Has it all!, 2011-09-14
Captain: , Mesa AZ (1609)

Beautiful marina at a low transient rate. New loaner van is readily available. On site restaurant is a great place to meet old & new boaters. Clean floating docks & good assistance available. Town has some charm & history.

A Great Stop!, 2010-09-25
Captain: , Jekyll Island, Georgia (50)

Heritage Harbor is a great stop. Kelli and Cap't Moe were so helpful. They offered us the use of their a courtesy van as soon as we tied up. The docks are nice and the restaurant has fabulous margaritas!

New Marina with alot of potential, 2010-08-22
Captain: , Foley, AL (985)

New marina community, very nice individual slips. The vegetation has grown on the embankments now. Kelli and 'Moe' were very helpful during our 3 day stay. New courtsey van to use for groceries and laundry runs.

Heritage Harbor, 2009-09-15
Captain: , Stuart FL (835)

We stayed at HH on 15 Sept, 09. Wonderful accomdations and super friendly and helpful satff.. Facilities new. Gas, Deisel, good resturnt. We were offered their car before we even asked.

Highly recommende. rates was $1.25/frt

Heritage Harbor - almost perfect., 2008-08-20
Captain: , Starved Rock Marina (17)

This would get 5 stars but you can not see the river whatsoever from your slip and it blocks the cooling nightly breeze with very high hills of (now) freshly planted dead grass. You are surrounded by ugly man made dirt hills on all sides. It will be more scenic in a few years - for now it's just too new.

First Class Marina, 2008-08-09
Captain: , Ottawa, Il. (17)

A Gem in the making. This marina has 12 foot of water comming in and 7 foot thru out the 32 acre harbor. Brand new concreat floatation docks 16 wide and 40 feet long plus some 62 foot by 24 foot slips. Has gas on site and diesel on 24 hour notice, will have diesel next year on site. This marina just opened in April and has been a big hit with the early loopers. Service is great, free pump out, food and a Tiki Bar on the weekends. You won't be disapointed.
