Reviews for Herbert Hoover Marina at Homestead Bayfront Park
Nice stop over in bad weather, 2016-01-29
Captain: , Lewis Creek, Md (1234)

First, if your are reading this, the approach to the marina is at least 4.5 probably 5 feet. Went through just after low tide with 1+ feet under my 4 foot keel. If you are at the wall, electricity is limited to a single 30 amp and 2 10 amp 110. Fuel and dockage is cheap. We are a cat so it was the wall. The slips have water and power. The bathrooms are part of the swimming park- no real showers or laundry. The staff could not do more to help. I needed supplies and the dockmaster let me use his truck. Shopping is 6 miles away. Overall a good experience!

Great for a quick fuel stop - Friendly and attentive staff, 2015-07-03
Captain: , Key Largo (392)

I decided to skip refueling at Gilberts and give this place a try.. Found the fuel prices reasonable, they honored their discounts (something Gilberts doesn't do) ad had plenty of help to get us docked.

Not so good, 2015-02-04
Captain: , Key Largo (5330)

clean enough, but not transient boater oriented.
Showers and heads are public, nuf said.
STaff friendly but not informed.
Entrance chanel shallow, 5 ft ish.
well protected, nice fixed docks.
Dockmaster send me to a dock too small and too shallow.
NO DISCOUNTS OFFERED! $1.45 ft.

Great marina totally full 2015 Jan09, 2015-01-23
Captain: , Moyock, NC (984)

There are six Miami-Dade Park Marinas which are nice, friendly, a good stay, affordable, and working to improve their offering. Pump-out systems have been a problem. However, in 2015 all six marinas are scheduled with funding for new pump-out systems to be installed that will also tell the boater how much waste is removed.

A rather strange place, 2014-12-19
Captain: , Hartfield, VA (140)

Pros:
Remote, quiet, price is right. Resident boaters very friendly. Lots of wildlife (birds, etc) to see

Cons:
Seems to be run by bunch of lackadasical young adults/teenagers
Office/restrooms are long, long walk from the docks, don't forget to bring your documentation papers
Racoons in abundance at night due to lids not being on trash receptacles
Overall: Could be a real garden spot, but currently neglected

friendly n quiet, 2014-11-21
Captain: , Cozumel, Mx (310)

We stayed here 4 nights in November and it was very nice. Facilities are simple but the staff is friendly and very helpful. Wifi up near the restaurant. The slips are tight. My Gemini just barely squeezed in. We were the only transients in the marina. 45$ a night for my 30 ft catamaran.

A great place to stop, 2014-10-22
Captain: , Southport, NC (706)

The marina staff was real helpful and nice. The park is a real nice place with a protected swimming beach with life guards. People fish off the bank and have picnic shelters nearby. There is a good restuarant in the park called "LaPlaya". The bugs are real bad but the middle of Oct they seem to be leaving. We draw 3.5 ft but didnt have any trouble with rocks. We also came in and left on a high tide. No grocery stores are near or any other amenities. Its really out several miles from any stores so you cant reprovision easily. Overall we Enjoyed our stay and hope to come back.

nice boat ramps, 2014-04-07
Captain: , Miami (260)

Farthest marina down south

Marker #9 rocks!!!, 2014-03-04
Captain: , Westport, Ma (10)

We entered the channel with very little water (3.5 feet). As we got to deeeper water at marker #9 and well inside the south side of the channel, we hit rocks and badly damaged a prop and rudder. The next morning at the office the park official said " Oh yeah. We forgot to tell you about the rocks that stick out at marker #9."
Come in and out at other than low tide and stay well north of marker #9.
Also, we were put at fixed docks that were 5 feet above our gunwhales. With two big dogs to get on and off the boat several times during our stay, we were again not happy.

Marina Folks Awesome, 2014-02-12
Captain: , Miami (10)

I've been coming here for years, and now decided to rent a transient dock for my for my 23' Ranger Bay boat. My space has more than plenty of room for my boat and as I can see where bigger boat are stationed there is plenty y for them too water and electricity included. You cant beat the price. Added plus the staff is great from the smile friendly girl at the gate to to the one that tends the bait in the store. Bathrooms need a little work but its a public bathroom I've seen much worse at Dolphin Stadium.

Good docks be careful on the approach, 2013-11-15
Captain: , Miami (100)

This is not transient friendly. Though the staff is helpful they are not well informed. If you draw more than 3.5 check the tides. The docks are well built, the restrooms are public and the restaurant has ok food. There is a lot of noise from the AFB and in the summer it can be really buggy.

Depths to dock, 2011-11-08
Captain: , Marathon, FL, USA (70)

There seemed to be no small amount of confusion as to exactly how much water there was going in. We went in 1 hour after low tide going just south of the power plant outer marker, then heading in to the marina markers. We had a minimum of 5.5' untill just at the beginning of the marina channel where it dropped to 4.5' for a matter of 10' or so. Nice folks at the marina and, except for the AFB, quiet. Supposedly a restaurant is now open and wi-fi is on its way. 5 or so miles to grocery

shallow Entry, 2009-05-06
Captain: , Vancouver BC (500)

Really shallow approach but nice facility and friendly staff, be really careful on the approach.
