Reviews for Henderson's Wharf Marina and Inn
Great Location, 2017-07-08
Captain: , Little River SC (586)

Great Wifi and facilities. Good location to safe part of Baltimore in Fells Point. Walk to everything.

very helpful, 2017-06-03
Captain: , YORKTOWN, VA (383)

Good dependable and helpful staff. Came in very high wind and dock staff was very helpful. Not easy in a high wind.

Captain: , Timonium (90)

Hendersons is located just outside of Fells Point - a short walk to all of the local bars and restaurants. Wintered here. Very safe. Piers and bathroom could use some work. Cable tv did work. Easy access from the harbor. Staff was helpful and friendly - I felt as though they kept an eye on the boat while were not there. If Fells Point is your destination, this is your spot.

Nice Marina in an interesting part of Baltimore, 2017-05-02
Captain: , Detroit (767)

Fells Point is a great location for restaurants and pubs. Make sure to eat mussels at Bertha's. The water taxi is close by and makes it easy getting aroung the inner harbor

Quiet and not bright with lights, 2016-09-22
Captain: , Mystic, CT (80)

In a quiet area of Baltimore with wonderful restaurants and pubs in the Fells Point area. Very friendly and great place to walk day or night. I prefer this much more than the glamorous big marinas downtown. "to each their own"

Great location, 2016-09-21
Captain: , Saint Leonard, MD (30)

This was our third time here over several years. John welcomed us at the dock and assisted with lines. As others have reported marina is in need of upgrades, but the location is great with terrific access to Fels Point.

Best Value in Baltimore, 2016-09-18
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (310)

This is the place in Baltimore. For just $2 a foot, the wifi is outstanding, cable TV, and clean bathrooms. John the dock hand is great! The finger piers are small with just one piling for a bow line. However, a long sping from a forward cleat to the pier will keep you safe in the slip. Highly recommended.

Excellent location, 2016-07-22
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (666)

The marina is getting a bit long in the tooth, but they look to be trying to make repairs. The finger docks are past their useful life. We experienced a power drop (single 30amp) but changing sources on the dock took care of the problem. The dock hand looks to be a land luber rookie so make sure you understand exactly where he intends you to dock and do not expect an experienced line handler.

Lots of live aboards, so a sense of community. As noted what Hendersons has is location, hence the 4 stars rating

Best value in the city, 2015-05-30
Captain: , worton Creek (100)

We spent part of Memorial day weekend here and loved it! Pete was friendly and as helpful as you could get. He met us at the dock for tie up, completed all paperwork right there and gave us pointers about local spots. The docks were floating with wood surface in good condition. All of the slipholders were friendly and we found the premises to be very safe with a gate at the parking lot and another at the dock entrance to keep gawkers away. A short walk gets you into Fells point and a little further walk gets you to the inner harbor. All in all a good spot to be in Baltimore, close enough to walk to the inner harbor but far enough away not to be bothered by the crowds and noise. Going back next week.

Has become very unfriendly, 2014-09-11
Captain: , Sarasota (1427)

2013 Spent two weeks here over the 4th of July holiday. Very helpful staff - Dave will help you get it done, whatever "it" is. The water taxi is next door, which is the best way to get around. Used it for free to visit Maryland Nautical. Great view of the fireworks straight down the river. Very reasonable rate for 2 week+ stay.
We've stayed here several times over several years - yes, the place has flaws: the wake from the water taxis all-day and into the evening, the surge from the river, the duck poop on the docks, the less than great condition of the docks with many loose dock boards, and the long walk across the parking lot. But, the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff and the convenient location made up for those deficiencies; no longer, however.
First off, they put us in a nasty slip far away from the parking lot - presumably, they've decided transients are second-class boaters compared to their seasonal slip-holders - well, OK that happens. They have WiFi, but it was barely usable at about 1/2 MBPS - perhaps that was because we were so far away.
The marina has a nice, big gated parking lot that requires a card to enter. Last year, we got a card to use for our rental car. This year, my son and grandkids came to visit and we were told that transients can't have visitors - at least they can't use the parking lot. It was a week after Labor Day and the parking lot and the marina, for that matter, were about half full the whole time we were there. Seriously? They had a high-school kid in a golf cart posted at the entrance to keep us interlopers, paying interlopers, out. The parking lot is one of the reasons we have stayed here in the past. Had we rented a car, we would have also had to park on the street, which is tough in Fells Point. Very unfriendly.
They charged us one rate for the first two days and more for the second two days as this was during the Sailebration Festival in Baltimore. OK, bad timing. We noticed no increase in the number of boats docked by the time we left. Maybe the increased fee was to pay for the 'guard' at the gate. Again, very unfriendly.
We feel we were treated pretty shabbily. Maybe other boaters have noticed this and that's why the marina was only half full. We have stayed at a lot of marinas and this one is right there as one of our worst experiences. That's sad when we think of how it used to be.
Next time, we will stay next door at the Anchorage Marina (where we have also stayed before), an Active Captain 1st Marina. We really don't recommend this marina for transients anymore, nor, apparently, do they want us.

Friendly service at a very fair price for a fantastic location, 2014-09-10
Captain: , Plano, Texas sv Mariposa (345)

We've spent the summer here and really enjoyed our time. The Dockmaster, David, was terrific about helping us with lines when we'd return to the dock. He is also very knowledgable about the 100 or so restaurants that are within 5 blocks of the marina.

While the docks are a bit worn, we enjoyed that they were floating, even with only a 1.5 foot tide.

Neighbors were very helpful. Woody, the resident A/C repairman and Glenn the resident fix everything else guy were both fantastic resources.

Two night stay 22-23 July 2014, 2014-08-02
Captain: , Colonial Beach, VA (650)

Web site shows marina in better light than real life. While nice with profession and caring dockmaster it is not quite 5 star. Wifi worked, gravel parking lot outside marina is not inviting nor friendly to pets, but value for money paid I would come back. It is very close to Fellls Point, a major and enjojyable attraction in Baltimore. They had TiKi bar but it was roped off. Opened, even without attendant, boaters could use and cook out there which would be a good draw for boaters, like me anyway.

Good Spot for Winter, 2014-04-29
Captain: , Vandalia, Ohio (170)

We left our boat in the water from October 2013 to April 2014. We hated to leave. Henderson's Wharf is easy walk to all of Fells Point's many restaurants and historic neighborhood. Ferry to Inner Harbor, Fort McHenry, American Visionary Art Museum and Canton Great spot. Many friendly live aboards, floating docks, gated. Felt very safe. Dave was very helpful and kept a close eye on our boat over the long cold winter. He put us in touch with Petersen Marine that did a great job of taking care of our boat needs. We would not hesitate to return.West Marine close and Canton area for more restaurants recommended by Dave.

Second Time Back, 2013-07-22
Captain: , Cape Canaveral (1191)

This marina gives yoi good value. Friendly and helpful staff, floating docks in decent to good shape, showers/bath are good, plenty of water (we draw 4'), and very close to Fells Point. This is our second time here and we'll continue to come back.

Adequate for Short Stay, 2013-06-29
Captain: , Jacksonville, FL (161)

We stayed here for three nights in mid June. The dock master was very helpful in talking us into the Marina and getting into the correct fairway. There are several marinas contiguous to Henderson's Wharf, and it was confusing to locate the correct location to enter. The docks themselves are old and wooden floating. There are some loose boards on the dock, and the dock master runs a golf cart back and forth along the dock. There is a gate from the gravel parking area to the main dock, and we found this gate to be locked at night which was good. The gravel parking lot is shared by the marina and the Inn at Henderson's Wharf next door. There is a gated entrance into the parking lot from the public street. Bath and laundry facilities are in a trailer at the front of the property. It is a very long walk from the docks. We did not think the marina was pet friendly. There was no grass on the marina property - just gravel. There were planting areas outside the fence and a condo/apartment complex next door that had artificial grass for walking a dog. There is a park about two blocks from the Marina. The area of Fells Point is very interesting with a number of shops and restaurants, all within a ten minute walk of the marina. Little Italy is walkable from the marina, but not sure I would do this at night. We walked to the Inner Harbor Area, using some of the Harbor Walk and city streets. There is a lot to see and do in the Inner Harbor. There is a water taxi that comes in at a wharf that is several blocks from the marina-maybe a 10 or 15 minute walk. Bike riding on the cobblestone streets in the neighborhood might be challenging. All in all, in the future, I might check out another marina other than Henderson's Wharf.

Convenient and friendly, 2012-11-06
Captain: , Michigan City (349)

We stayed on 9/9/12 at this marina. As mentioned in most all of the reviews, it is convenient to the Fell's Street businesses and there is local transportation to other areas of Baltimore. The staff was also very helpful, even letting us use the Dockmaster's stairs to get on and off the boat. Restroom and shower facilities were good.

Wonderful marina, staff and location, 2012-10-27
Captain: , Belleville Ontario Canada (30)

We stayed at Henderson Wharf Marina for one week(3-10 OCt 12). From the moment we tied up at the pump out dock and then assisted into our slip with Bill's help we felt instantly welcomed. The location is minuites away from Fells Point, very quant spot, great restaurants and pubs. The marina is in progress but the recent renovations to the bathrooms/showers are great. Laundry on site which was very helpful for a trainsient cruiser. Groceries were a manageable walk, Bill was kind enought to come and pick us up when we were done shopping. We were told it is a courtesy they provide to transients. All staff members were very helpful, Bill especially went out of his way to make us feel at home. We were even priveleged to have a boat visit from, "Toto", Bill's small dog that is absoluletly adorable. We will definately stay at this marina again when we are in the Baltimore area.

Great Location & Staff, 2012-10-10
Captain: , Herrington Harbour South (328)

Fantastic location right at the end of historic Fells Point close to bars, restaurants, etc. "Bill" couldn't have been any more helpful and had us feeling at home within minutes of docking. Would definitely return!

nice staff, 2012-10-03
Captain: , Clearwater FL (685)

Good place to stay, staff is friendly. Not too far to inner harbor and attractions, and lots of restaurants shops and pubs at Fells Point. We walked to little Italy for dinner.
Docs could be in better shape.

Old fashioned goodness, 2012-09-21
Captain: , Jacksonville Fl (1550)

We went here on reccomendation of another boater, wonderful advice. How refreshing that in the big city old fashioned service with a smile is still alive. Bill and his staff are very accomodating and want to see you have a great stay. Easy walk or bike to shopping, West Marine, and all the quaint pubs of Fells Point. Would call it the best place to stay in the inner harbor.

Give it a try!, 2012-09-11
Captain: , St. Petersburg, FL (348)

Although this Marina is not a "resort" marina by anyones standard it is an IDEAL place to spend some time. The management team is fantastic! They are VERY helpful and go out of their way to ensure your stay is pleseant. Make sure yoiu ask for Bill. He is what this marina is all about. The location is perfect for anything you need. Much better staying here (Fells point) than the inter-harbor.

Friendly helpful staff but....., 2012-06-16
Captain: , Wilmington DE (792)

First, their rates are higher for special events. $2/ ft for Sailabration. I booked before the new management/prices and was told they would honor the rate structure at time of booking. They didn't. The worst part is in the southerly section at least the power is inadequate. We have only 208 volts, which dwindeled down to 195 volts on the week day afternoons. I'm reluctant to run the AC's. Fortunately it has been a comfortable weekend.

This in NOT a resort marina as they are trying to prompte it.

Great Location, 2012-06-04
Captain: , Port Lavaca, TX (451)

Very friendly staff, great location for walking to restaurants/shops/bars/etc. Alot of very friendly liveaboards. Some rocking from larger boats in river at times. Newly updated showers/bathrooms/offices. Will stay here again when passing through.

Changes, changes, 2012-04-25
Captain: , Fells Point, MD (98)

Under new management January 2012. Now operated as part of a 5 hotel consortium. MBA's have had their input. Rates up, showers and heads remodeled, parking lot pot holes have been filled. The occupants in the slips behind the hotel have been encouraged to move to the other side of the marina. Trouble is most of those slips have but one finger and a short one at that. We now have a $100.00 month charge for parking a second car in the large parking lot.

Plan is to market the slips behind the hotel ($3.00/foot) to transients who would want to stay in the hotel at reduced rates. New wi-fi towers have been installed but only available to transients, although current residents can buy service from Port Networks.

Laundry & showers are nicer. John the former dockmaster was summarily removed. New dock master is a nice fellow. Docks are still old and not always in the best repair. However many of the worst dock boards are now being replaced. If you like funky, this is still your place. Very convenient to restaurants & bars. Groceries, a bit of a walk. Plenty of free parking. Plenty of liveaboards make for good security and social scene although it seems like transient dock will be separate in the future, I.e. 2013.

Outstanding friendly place

Staff Unfriendly, 2011-05-23
Captain: , Baltimore, MD (350)

The man who runs this marina is very gruff. If you can get past that, the location is great, in the heart of Fells Point - walking distance to all the shops, bars and restuarants. The showers are in a trailer and minimally adequate. Great place to watch the 4th of July foreworks.

Great Place, 2011-05-19
Captain: , Doylestown, Pa. 18902 (414)

These people were there to help you tie up and dockage is reasonable. Decent showers etc, ice available near the docks, Safeeway grocery store nearby. Fells Point is happening we walked to Baltimore's Little Italy and ate at a spot called Ciao Bella, fantastic. You can walk to the Inner Harbor area from here. Docks seemed secure along with secure car parking. The stkk here are very nice people. The local liveaboards can provide you with a weath of information. We will come back here, loved it!

Closest to Fells Point, 2011-01-26
Captain: , Newark, DE (259)

Marina is OK, but the showers are quite dated. No pool but plenty of restaurants within walking distance.

Henderson's Wharf, 2010-09-21
Captain: , On the water (1501)

Decent floating docks, friendly staff (John is the dockmaster), great staff to help you tie up, the BEST location right in Fells Point. Lots of bars and restaurants. Not fancy but has all the basics. Short Water Taxi ride into the downtown/Iner Harbor area. Check Pier 6 music schedule, we were lucky enough to see Crosby, Stills, Nash while we were there. And walk or take a ride to Little Italy for killer food!!

Great Place to spend the night in Charm City, 2010-09-10
Captain: , West River, MD (50)

We decided to run up to Baltimore on a Fall mid week sail (from West River). We picked Henderson's Wharf Marina from Active Captain. We were very pleased. We called ahead and they had a spot ready for us. The rate was fine for a 27' sailboat was just $45 for the night. We walked to a nice pub for a burger and beer and then later for dinner to Bertha's Mussels on Broadway and in the morning we had a nice breakfast at Jimmy's.

The toilets and showers were welcome after a day on The Bay. I will go back here.

Good Marina for a Visit to Baltimore, 2009-09-23
Captain: , South Portland, ME (537)

Decent floating docks, friendly staff (John is the dockmaster), the best location right in Fells Point. Lots of bars and restaurants. Not fancy but has all the basics. Short Water Taxi ride into the downtown/Iner Harbor area. Also walkable.

Good Location, 2009-06-18
Captain: , Key Largo (5457)

Walkable around town. Small laudry and heads just ok.

Basic with good access to Fells Point, 2009-01-25
Captain: , Chesapeake Bay, MD (311)

Floating docks, lot's of wind as it is pretty exposed out on the end.
The lady they sent to help us tie up was pretty "green" so be prepaired to be on your own when coming in. A no frills place to dock in Charm City.

Walk to Fells Point Bars, 2007-09-06
Captain: , Havre De Grace (111)

Hendersons is a decent, secure marina two blocks from all of the bars and taverns in the Fells Point area. They had two guys waiting to take lines when I came in, and gave me a very easy slip to get in and out of. The docks, and parking area are both locked with card keys, so there are two fences between the city and your boat. It's not the fanciest, but they are close to the night life, secure, and have a friendly staff.
