Reviews for Hector Heritage Quay Visitors Marina
well protected, nice town, 2017-06-18

Pictou is worth a visit, especially if you have any Scottish blood. The Hector Heritage Marina has friendly helpful staff, washrooms, showers and laundry. There is the Hector museum nearby which details the 1773 landing of the first Scots and there is a replica of their ship. Several decent restaurants and pubs within walking distance. Performing Arts center easy walk from marina also. We have a 39 ft boat and the finger piers were a bit short but stern in was very secure.

Very helpful staff, 2016-10-05

Late september. The marina was officially closed, but Frank gave us a space on the main dock as there were still a few boats in. We were stuck there for a few days waiting for weather - which remained lousy so we ended our trip here. We hauled at the Pictou Marina and Frank drove us to Halifax airport. Above and beyond. Nice town, good eats across the way. We didn't visit the Hector museum, but were docked very close to it anyway.

No protection from high winds, 2014-08-14

We use to love it here but was dissapointed this year, no proctection from high winds, staff was not sure what was going on, but facilities were fine, showers, laundry, power on dock, and walking distance to the resturants and shops. the town itself seems to be on a downhill slide, they have a lobster festival which I think would be a good time to sail in, more things to do.

Was a very good facility a few years ago. If you're tied alongside the breakwater, (very likely) a good chop will build with winds from the south. Tie your vessel with a good amount of slack on the springlines to lessen its effect. As other reviewers have stated, a great amount of confusion/apathy now seems to be the norm. A good example of the confusion and apathy was in 2014 when they advertised for a marina manager. Qualifications were carpentry/plumbing knowledge a MUST, boating experience merely an asset.

Past its prime?, 2013-07-16

This might have been a good marina once but....
The docks are small
They have inadequate power
There are no basic services with walking distance in town.
However, folks are friendly, we had a great time and great lobster....

A nice spot right in a small town. We tried to raise the marina on the VHF on both 16 and 68, no response. We did meet the marina staff, well that is we yelled to her on the dock as we hovered waiting instructions on dock location, all was fine in the end. No fuel available. Town was busy but stores are limited. The fisherman marine store on the main street had a good selection of items at great prices when compared to big box store suppliers. We walked to food store which is about 1 mile away. Nice walk, but 3.50 for a soft icecream cone along the way felt wrong that is untill we purchased a bag of milk for 8.00. Yikes.

A little bit of confusion but a very nice place, 2012-08-01

As the previous review mentionned, it is not evident to have a reservation and for them to respect it. But it is a very nice place to be, close to everything with a touch of scottish tradition everywhere. Would come again for sure.

Disorganized but nice spot, 2010-08-07

We called ahead to reserve a berth for our 43 ft. but when we arrived were told they had no space. A shift change dropped the ball. To add insult to injury, I had shipped a package Fed Ex from the states to arrive prior to our visit & had called to give them the info and let them know a package would be waiting for us. When we arrived, we were told the package was returned to the shipper a few hours earlier- they presumed the delivery was a scam. Waited another 4 days to reverse the return over a weekend. Don't rely on these folks to follow through. They have a reputation even with locals for being inept, overbooking, etc.
That said, it's a very nice stopover, had lots of offers from locals for grocery store runs, ended up using a local cruiser's car- here's the keys, just put 'em on the floor when you get back!
