Reviews for Hastings Lock #18 Wall
Nice place to spend the night, 2016-07-08
Captain: , Michigan City, IN (748)

Date of visit: 7/7/16
Ocean Dancer is a 48' M/V with a 4' draft. The lock wall had plenty of bollard cleats and was 9.7' deep. We walked the short quarter mile across the swing bridge to Banjo's for very good meal (quality, flavor, portion size, smoke free). There were 7 boats tied up by the end of the day; five were 40' or longer.

It is a place people come to watch boats go by. There is no security. There was a bit of traffic noise from the road that runs parallel to the wall and a local boat in front of us played a radio all night. There were also new Loopers to meet, songs to sing at the picnic tables, and docktails with our buddy boaters. All in alll, a nice place to spend the night between Campbellford and Peterborough.

Great stop before Rice Lake, 2016-06-12
Captain: , Houston, Texas (970)

Very good if you have a moorings pass. Good cleats. Coffee ,ice cream, and free wifi at Bridgewater Cafe 1 block. Laundromat 2 short blocks. Fish and chips at the Captains Table 1 1/2 short blocks. Groceries 2 short blocks. Lock Master will give you the code to the rest rooms. You just have to be able to survive with out power and showers. Good wave protection.

Good overnight spot, 2015-08-09
Captain: , Ottawa (532)

Stayed on the upper grey line. Easy docking and well protected. Banjoes restaurant (accross bridge) had good home style food.

Ok location, 2015-07-15
Captain: , Essex, CT (1675)

We finally tied up on the lock wall above the lock after a very long day. Unfortunately before we could take the last spot on the wall we were forced to turn around and tie up on the blue wall first because a bass fishing tournament wanted to own the wall for the next day. Be very careful if you need to tie up to the blue wall. The current for the dam is forocious and will grab your stern and pull you in. Give the blue wall lots of room until you're well past the current lest you be pulled in with a bang!

Lock 18 Hastings, 2014-07-27
Captain: , Green Cove Springs FL (1380)

We visited 6-25-14 Used the location for a jumping off point for
Rice Lake with a good weather window. It was a nice stop with the usual park/picnic type setting. Capt Helen & Chier Engr Bob onbard

Lovely little town, 2014-07-19

Nice little quiet town. Easy provisioning. Banjo's is the place to eat. Very strong currents around the lock

Nice stop, convenient to provisioning, 2014-07-03

Convenient stop right above the lock, close to grocery, laundry, hardware, restaurants. Good walking area for you dog. Canadian Legion adjacent welcomes guests.

Canada Day parade and Fireworks, 2014-06-30
Captain: , Austin, TX (777)

We are tied to the upper lock wall in Hastings. Tomorrow is Canada Day and we are looking forward to the events of the day. Town has a well stocked grocery store, a good hardware, laundry, library and restaurants all within 1 - 2 block walk. There is even a marine store, about a mile bike ride to it.

Nice Town and a Nice Stop, 2014-06-15
Captain: , Cape Coral, Fl (838)

We stayed on the upper wall of Lock 18. Hasting is a nice little town. We went to the Bridgewater Coffee Shop for coffee, butter tart and wifi. Library (up the hill) also has wifi. Nice little hardware store too. Lots of locals stop by to chat and it can be busy on the weekends with local boats but overall a nice stop.

One of the best towns on Trent-Severn system, 2013-12-16
Captain: , Rockcliffe Yacht Club, Ottawa (32)

We stay at the Hastings Lock (using our seasonal canal mooring pass) whenever we are traveling in the Trent-Severn Canal. It is a great place to either prepare for or recover from the hours-long leg between Hastings and Peterborough, or to sit out unfavorable winds on Rice Lake.

We like the lower wall, which is far more sheltered (despite the people who are fishing off the walls and the dam -- it seems to be a local enthusiasm and you get whole families spending the day there), but we have stayed on the upper wall as well, which is withing spitting distance of a convenioence store, the liquor store, and the beer store. As a matter of fact within three blocks of the lock you can find a grocery store (that sells block ice, which is kind of hard to find on the T-S, unlike on the Rideau Canal), a liquor store, a beer store, a drug store, 2 convenience stores, a public library with free wi-fi 24/7 (you can pick it up in the parking lot and there is a live outside power socket to plug into, so take a folding chair up the hill with you after hours), and a hardware store.

Town water is available from a tap on the side of the lockmaster's building (again, a good thing, since the water quality is unpotable or boil-advised at many of the more remote locks). The only thing lacking in the immediate vicinity is fuel and marine service and parts, for which you have to go further on towards Rice lake.

All told, Hastings is a nice place to spend two or three days refilling your stores and catching up on e-mail using the free wi-fi.

Nice town, 2012-11-07
Captain: , Cincinnati (1800)

We spent a few nights on the wall and enjoyed the proximity to town stores and cafe's. Very close to the liquor store. Plenty of foot traffic but they were courtious and friendly people.

Nice Place to Dock, 2012-06-18
Captain: , punta gorda, fl (1328)

Space for about five or s.ix boats above the wall. Park with picnic tables next to wall. Convenience store with ice right next to dock. Restaurant across street. Several other restaurants within a short walk. Grocery store is also close.

1am friends??, 2011-07-18
Captain: , Westport,Ma (700)

Nice stop, we are still here on the top wall and enjoying it. Did have some excitment at 1am this morning when a VERY drink young "lady" decided that our boat was the place to party. I woke up to the boat rocking and a huge thud from the cockpit as she went ass over teakettle, I headed out to the sundack to a head sticking up and her saying "nice boat want to party"? well after removing her back to terrafirma all was quiet. Besides that we really do like this stop and would not hesitate to return.

Good place to spend evening, 2011-06-08
Captain: , Red Wing, MN (384)

Nice little town with boater services very close and handy. Friendly town folks too. Upper wall much nicer than lower wall except for a few more people strolling by. Wi Fi was available from Hastings Village marina (east)

Do not stay on the lower side!!!!!!!, 2010-08-21
Captain: , Elizabeth City, NC (241)

The upper side is ok but the lower side will buffet all night long. Anchor out instead of staying on the lower wall.

A Wall of a time, 2010-07-08
Captain: , Memphis TN (977)

The lock wall on the upper side is very long and provides quick access to small convenience store LCBO, Beer Store, ice cream, etc

Nice village area, 2009-08-18
Captain: , Port Ontario, Lake Ontario (410)

This lock has you downtown in this nice village. Many conveniences nearby but it seemed quiet at night. Fun to watch the swing bridge also.

This lock has it all., 2009-07-29
