Galesville is a quaint village bordered on three sides by the waters of Tenthouse Creek, West River, and Lerch Creek. Originally settled by Quakers in 1652, a few homes were built on large plantations. Galesville began as a village when the great steamboats began plying the area in the early 1800s, the Emma Giles being the most famous here.

Main Street ends at the waters edge and todays visitor will turn right to Thursdays Restaurant on a pier in the river, or left to Pirates Cove Restaurant & Marina or West River Sailing Club.

Galesville's mix of 200 homes include 1800s Victorian's, 1920s bungalow's, and million dollar waterfront's. In addition, there's an auto repair shop, an art gallery, the sailing club and a couple of antique stores that make up the quaint village. There is also a public waterfront park, post office, firehouse and Community Hall.

Reviews for Hartge Yacht Yard
Above and beyond, 2015-10-04
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (1156)

During the SSCA Annapolis Gam at Camp Letts on a weekend in October one of our members suffered a catastrophic failure of a thru-hull. Members rallied and the inflow of water was stopped and the boat dewatered. TowboatUS responded. The question became where to take the boat for a haul, as the best we could do was by no means a permanent repair.

We were able to reach owner Alex Schlegal at home on Saturday evening. Alex did not hesitate to pick up an employee and head to the Yard to meet the boat towed in by TowboatUS and haul it for repair.

Hartge Yacht Yard is not just another marine business. They are boaters, cruisers, racers, and offshore sailors who are part of the community of boaters.

Thank you Alex for taking my call and for responding to the desparate needs of our SSCA member whose boat might otherwise be on the bottom of the Rhode River.

Great service operation., 2013-07-01

A crew of 20 technicians who really know how to take care of you and your boat. Very personal.
The yard location moved in 2009 to Tenthouse Creek, transforming the old Woodfields plant into a bustling marine repair facility that offers mechanical/electrical/fiberglass/carpentry repair. Also high quality fiberglass repair/paint/varnish.
New restrooms - very nice!

Honest and professional, 2013-06-07

We needed a bottom job done so we traveled to Hartge Yard because of their great reputation and our past experience. During the haul out I found several problems that needed immediate attention. The work was very professional and they did their best to get us back into the water as quickly as possible. We received the bill yesterday and were scared to open it. We were pleased that the price was very fair and in line with what was expected. Thanks to Alex and the crew.

Great work - craftsmen and women. Not cheap but if you know boat repair you most often pay for what you get.

Alex and his team are great.

Great people, great work, 2012-02-21

Nothing but good things to say about Alex and his team.

Westerbeke repair, 2011-06-22
Captain: , Palmetto Fl (545)

We were pinned down due to weather and couldn't get to the Solomons for a repair. Found out they are a Westerbeke dealer and they bent over backwards to fix it. Cheaper than the Solomons but still not cheap. It's a boat, everythings broken you just don't know it yet. Free dockage with repairs. Bathrooms totally unuseable. BUt they try hard.

Professional and conscientious craftsmen, 2011-04-11
Captain: , Green Cove Springs FL (44)

This is where we have always found trustworthy service and repairs. Folks here are knowledgable, and if Wells Dixon, the marine store manager, cannot find a part for you or steer you in the right direction to find it, it cannot be done.

Great Mechanics, 2010-11-26
Captain: , Essex, CT (1675)

We had a fuel problem while cruising the Bay and headed into Hartge's for help. They came to the boat immediately and fixed the problem promptly and got us on our way. The mechanic even brought me down to the engine as he was working to ensure I knew what had gone wrong and what I could do should this happen again. Very professional.

Hartges 2009 changes, 2009-09-29
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (54)

This is the new version of Hartges Yacht Yard. Not yet a marina but I understand slips are coming soon. The old team for the most part works here and still provides respected service as in the past. Reviews at Hartge Yacht Harbor prior to summer 2009 are actually associated with these folks who moved here after the lease expired.
