Reviews for Hartge Yacht Harbor
Great Staff and Marina, 2016-10-14
Captain: , New Bern, NC (466)

We came here to hide out from Hurricane Mathew. We stayed over a week. The staff here is one of the best I have seen. Everyone was helpful. The docks are in great shape. One restroom was completely rebuilt and the other building was in progress. This is also a boat yard with full service. We had one of our lifeline gates rebuilt here. The work was good and on time.
There is not much here to see and do without a car. We rented from Enterprise and had no issues with pickup or drop off.
There are two resturants nearby, Pirates Cove and Thursday. Both in walking distance.

lovely area, 2016-10-10
Captain: , Annapolis (2667)

Have been to this marina several times by car. This was our first time by boat. We cruise full time and are in and out of many marinas every year. We had high expectations, which were not met. A perfectly average marina charging Annapolis prices.

Great help, 2015-10-24
Captain: , Dover DE (134)

We stopped in this particular place to visit with a friend who lives in Woodbridge VA. And indeed we met with him (rather than sailing all the way up the Potomac). Once there we found out that a hurricane (Joaquin) was developing and predicted to head up the coast right for us. Being on a mooring ball was a good thing.

After spending a few hours checking on the condition of the mooring, with the dock master, office personnel and various others, we decided to ride out the hurricane there.

It didn't come our way ultimately. But, we were also able to get some needed repairs (mostly by doing them ourselves as the maintenance personnel were not very helpful with our alternator issues. They did try, they did order parts but could not adapt the parts to our engine.

We also went to the Annapolis Boat Show from this marina. All in all we remained just over two weeks at the marina.

When it was all said and done, not only did they NOT charge us a full rate, they gave us a break because of the hurricane.

The negatives, their dinghy dock was terrible, shaky and floating, not well accessable and there were always a couple of people who locked their dinghies to the dock making it impossible to get yours in and out easily.

The office personnel, Judy and Marsha were sweet, helpful and always had smiling faces when we wandered in to say or ask questions. Judy offered multiple times to drop us off places if we needed to go. Marsha greeted us by name at the boat show when we entered the gate (she was there working for the marina).

One washer and dryer, worked well.

Mens room had been remodeled and had three showers.

Ladies room will be remodeled this winter.

Dockmaster, Buddy was helpful.

Water there is not deep, about 9-19 feet. We draw 6' and while we had no issues remaining in the channel, we found that there are extra moorings there not belonging to the marina and you have to navigate between some of them to get to the marina balls.

Excellent Job Painting Hull, 2015-10-18
Captain: , Sandusky Ohio (20)

We selected Hartge's to AwlGrip our hull for three reasons; their advanced paint building, their crew was properly trained according to the regional AwlGrip representative, and because the people at Hartge's are very pleasant. Also, we were able to stay in a guest cottage on the grounds while the work was being done, which was important since we are live-aboards.
The work was completed on schedule and within the estimate. The prepwork and painting was first rate. Everyone was easy to work with when questions came up and they were very tolerant of my exacting requirements and continual followup. Also, the yard crew worked with me so I could varnish parts of the interior when it was safe to do so. Further, it was a nice place to spend a month, their front yard looks over a nice stretch of water.

Great Short Haul!, 2014-08-20
Captain: , Annapolis (1465)

Did a short haul, power wash and zinc replacement. Wetek's crew did a great job and went the extra mile and cleaned out every thru hull. Everyone at Hartge's from the Dockmaster (Buddy Raley) on down were extremely friendly and showed a genuine interest.

Also, looks like a great location to keep a boat.

Beware of this Marina !, 2014-05-12
Captain: , Annapolis, Md (120)

Our experience started off great. Buddy is a good guy to deal with. It ends there. They winterized our engine and caused a coolant leak and a water leak. They also loosened ever hose and did not re-tighten them cause eng intake problems. They scratched our hull. They also will not allow any contractor to work on your boat unless that contractor buys them a 2 MILLION DOLLAR Ins. policy. That's bad enough, but then you factor in completely incompetent workers and a service manage who is clueless (4 visits to the boat and STILL couldn't give an estimate on putting in some new valves) and you have a mess. Their office manager was impossible to deal with as well. The heads are disgusting (filthy and rusting away). We are a one and done slipholder and will be leaving when our lease is up.

Full Service Marina, 2013-07-02
Captain: , Galesville, MD (993)

We moved our boat to this marina based on the services available and helpful staff. We see staff checking the docks regularly. Interesting history of the area and small museum on site. Lovely views of the West River. Laundry is available (locked room, $1/washer, $1/dryer). Bathrooms are older, but are always clean and stocked. Thursdays and Pirates Cove restaurants nearby. Would need a car to get to grocery store in Shady Side or Edgewater. A convenience store is a long walk. Ice available on site. Nice creeks nearby for dinghy exploration.

Historical Setting, 2012-08-10
Captain: , Toronto, Ontario, Canada (55)

It was a unique experience to be at a marina with a sense of Chesapeake history. The staff were very helpful and friendly. I agree with some other comments that the docks and bathhouse could use some upgrading. If you plan on staying here, ensure you are well provisioned as the nearest store, which has a very limited inventory, is about a mile walk away along a busy street.

Not bad, Not great, 2012-07-22
Captain: , Pennsville, NJ (195)

Very friendly and helpful staff. Grounds are beautiful and well kept. Lots of classic boats to stroll and look at. Stayed one night in July. Docks are old and creaky, pilings seem a little loose. Severe duck infestation which leaves alot of littered docks and swim platforms. Heads are old and in poor repair. No hot water the night I stayed

Really Nice, 2012-06-20
Captain: , Frog Mortar Creek (19)

Stayed three nights, excellent staff, nice-quite marina. Old boats to look at, restuarants within walking distance. Really nice place.

Overnight - Transient Slip, 2012-06-11
Captain: , Deale, MD (347)

Friendly and attentive staff. Docks are old but marina is well protected with an easy approach. Bath house is worn and needed to be cleaned. They have a mooring field at $1.00/ft. Two restaurants are within walking distance. Dinner at Pirates Cove was good with a nice selection of fresh seafood. Good service at a fair price.

Pretty & historic, 2011-04-22
Captain: , Toronto (203)

We spent a month here in October 2010. It is a very pretty place with a lot of history. You definitely need a car to get to anything and labour costs are $100 per hour for jobs we had done at half the price in Ontario.

Harrge Yacht Harbor Great Stay!, 2010-08-01
Captain: , Green Cove Springs FL (1380)

We stayed at Hartege Yacht Harbor from 7-19-10 until morning of 7-23 10. Did maintenance chores. Got the Yard to install my anchor wash down. Competent Technician, Reasonable Rate and job well Done. Dock Master Rudy really goes the extra mile and Diana and her office staff very proficient. Last visit was 40 years ago, still a great stop to rest and relax. M/Y ALLEZ!. Bulkhead view of Wendesday night sailboat racing. Town doesnt really open up until Thursday night for summer time. Great Laid back atmosphere. We enjoyed out stay.

Great old yard with lots of services, 2009-06-02
Captain: , Frog Mortar Creek, Middle R., Chesapeake (420)

In 2008, one of the best overnight values on the Bay. Pool, showers are ok. Nice lawn for watching the water. Huge fig tree bears wonderful fruit in-season. Not fancy but good.
2009, I understand the yard facilities have moved to a new location. Don't know what this means for the marina.

Changes with time?, 2009-05-06
Captain: , Bristol, RI (132)

We pulled in here unexpectedly and were greeted by the service manager at 7:30 in the morning. His tech was onboard at 7:45 and repairs were underway quickly. Work was done well and honestly. I would not hesitate to use this yard for repairs in the future and recommend it highly.
Headed north and needed to have a fuel tank polished. When I spoke with Luke, Service Mgr. I was informed that there had been some turmoil there. Other family members had taken control of the yard while Luke and technicians left, and were located elsewhere in Galesville. Work continues in the new location but I'm not sure what this means in terms capabilities. Luke and his crew did excellent work but the new location may present some challenges. Call first.

Management, 2009-03-28
Captain: , Annapolis (10)

This has been an outstanding boat yard. Unfortunately they have just undergone a turnover in management.

recommended boat yard, 2008-10-04
Captain: , Carolina Beach, NC (362)

We had rigging, engine, and fiberglass/gelcoat repair done. Hartge is a friendly, capable, and honest yard. Luke the manager is compentent, communicates with you and sees that the work is done right. The workers are courteous and do the work right and quickley.

Honest & Capable, 2007-04-15
Captain: , Chesapeake (47)

Hartge's is a yacht yard witha marina attached, not a marina with overpaid idlers messing about with people's boats. Luke, the manager is friendly and efficient. They communicate well with customers. Their prices are regionally reasonable. They have commissioned a boat for us and do our spring service. We would not keep a boat here though. It is too long a haul to the Bay proper through too many powerboats going too fast with too little skill at the helm. If you find yourself here for while travelling, Thursday's, a 15 minute walk serves good, reliable food.
