Reviews for Harborside Marina
Which mooring?, 2017-08-22
Captain: , Panama City, FL (429)

Like others, we pulled in here after 4 PM when they go home after getting verbal instructions to run past the docks and turn right to find a seawall against which we could moor. Problem is, the entire seawall is PRIVATE property, and there is a fence over which it ould be impossible to awkward to climb to get back onto marina property. There are no dockhands here even in the daytime. What the gentleman in the office who described the place MEANT to sayis that you turn right past the slip dockage and moor along the FACE DOCK forming the southern edge of the last pier.
Great restaurant.

Great service, 2016-09-13
Captain: , Kitchener (140)

We arrived after hours and in the dark after a four delay in the lock. The owner showed up, helped us dock and made sure we had everything we needed. Only a couple of docks so make sure you call ahead before closing time of 4:30.

Great Stopover on the Illinois River, 2016-09-03
Captain: , Mystic, CT (190)

Stayed one night while enroute downbound on the Illinois River. Nice marina docks tucked in a harbor just off the river, protected from river wakes and wind. By choice we stayed on the fuel dock which is right on the river as we needed leave very early the next morning. Some wakes but most boaters were respectful. Easy in. Clean and landscaped. Docks in great shape. Plenty of power. Secure facility. Swimming pool and reasonably stocked marine store on site. Good Wi-Fi. Marina staff very friendly and accommodating. Restaurant on site with a great menu and meals. Definitely a great stop for short or longer term.

Owner came out in a storm., 2016-08-09
Captain: , New Port Richey (310)

We called and got held by locks the owner raced down in a bad storm to help us dock and tie up. next morning bright and early checked to see if we needed anything. fueled and water headed to lock. Thanks for making marina mean always there to help boaters.

Great restaurant but marginal marina, 2016-08-07
Captain: , St. Louis, Missouri (61)

Doing the loop came in after Joliet. Restaurant is to die for. Best salmon we've had on the loop. Wine list is on an I-pod! Staff of marina act as if they just don't care. Showers terrible. No ac, no water pressure.

Stayed 3 nights, 2016-07-27
Captain: , Eagle (292)

stayed to enjoy the pool due to no ac on boat. Water was only slightly cooler than the air. Good docks, great restaurant, friendly staff, very dog friendly. One draw back was the weekend partiers. Loud drunks with filthy language. Shower/toilet rooms private but out dated and not clean.Wife got very sick and needed a hospital, only one person offered a ride. Lack of courtesy car , no taxi etc.

A must stop for food!, 2016-07-26
Captain: , Saint Charles (669)

Stayed here again on 7/24/16 food was still top notch. showers were just ok, docks just ok. staff very nice. Stayed here in September 2014. We were late getting in so we called and they told us where to go and took our credit card over the phone. The river was high and we only had 1 foot under our 3 foot draft so be sure of depth before going to the back of the marina. We were put directly in front of the showers so it was only like 20 steps to get a shower. The restaurant was 1st rate! The docks were average.

Good stop, few transient spaces, can arrive late, 2015-09-25
Captain: , Ft Myers, Florida (1804)

We arrived late and left early. Paid with credit card over phone.
Stayed at fuel dock with another boat. Fuel dock is right on the river but we were not bothered by wakes or noise.
Good electric 50 or 30amp.
Great restaurant on site. Salad bar and excellent menu. Had the Hallibut very very good. Restaurant also has a bar.
The bathrooms were terribly dirty, disgusting so we did not use them.

Good stop if needed, 2014-09-23
Captain: , Galena, MD (1856)

They normally have transients stay across from the fuel dock. Settled weather location only. Barge traffic is not a problem and most boats obey no wake signs.
If weather looks bad, ask about going to the back. They have a very protected marina and will find a place if you need it.
The local restaurant is excellent. I had the best meal on the loop here, a San Francisco based seafood stew, and the admiral had lamb and was very pleased.
There is nothing else around.

few spaces, 2014-09-21
Captain: , St Louis MO (100)

Only space for a sailboat 5 ft deep is the fuel dock. They will let you stay there after 4, because the office closes and they don' appear to agressively sell fuel. I have suggested this for a fuel stop to friends going down river, because price 2 months ago was 60 cents less than I paid in Peoria. Friendly people, excellent resturant

Good Basic Stop, 2014-09-03
Captain: , Wickford, RI (560)

Not a lot of transient dockage but our slip across from fuel dock was fine. Well kept pool that was very welcome. Excellent reataurant/bar. Head and showers were just acceptable for the Capt. - the Admiral was more skeptical. Good pump-out facility. Nothing else around but the pool and restaurant (closed Mondays) made a two day stop pleasant.

WATCH DEPTH, 2013-10-03
Captain: , Tierra verde, FL (10)

The only dock to stay at for 4ft and over is the fuel dock. We were told to go to the long dock at the north end of property. We arrived late at night. 5 ft depth posted on dock. When we went to depart in the morning our boat was stuck in the mud. we are 4 ft depth. In the process of getting out we bent prop on a rock and had to have changed down stream. Were told that we were not the first to have this issue at Harborside by the other marina. Friends stayed at fuel dock with 4.5 ft depth with no issues.

Very accomodating, 2013-09-29
Captain: , Meredith, NH (638)

forced to stop due to Dresden lock closure. Needed a slip for at least 5' draft. We have 2' under our keel. Resraurant excellent. Highly recommend

Harborside, 2013-09-01
Captain: , Boca raton (210)

WE needed to be at the gas dock since we draw 5 feet but were very comfortable.
The staff was excellent.
The restaraunt adjacet to the property was excellent.

nice stopover, 2013-08-07
Captain: , Longboat Key, FL (445)

Nice stop on the IL which is longing for decent stops. Restaurant closed on Monday but looked nice. We stayed on the fuel dock with 6 feet of depth. Nice community but no shopping or restaurants nearby, and no cabs. Ron the owner is very personable.

Fuel Stop in transit from Chicago to Louisville KY, 2013-04-25
Captain: , Louisville KY (408)

Stopped to take on fuel while bringing our (new to us) new boat home. 420AC Searay. Make sure you look for and follow the channel markers into the harbor or YOU WILL RUN AGROUND! Good depth in the well marked channel and marina. Excellent service. I took on 300 gallons of diesel and my pumpout was free. Great people to sit and chat with and nice ship's store. Only problem was my waste port is on my port side as well as one of my fuel tanks. I had to turn the boat around to accomplish all we need to do. No big deal as I had plenty of room. I woul dhave rated them 5 stars except we did not stay overnight.

Awesome place to stay, 2012-10-07
Captain: , St. Charles, Mo. (20)

After a fly by of three rivers we called Harborside and were told to come on in. We were met at the entrance directed to the dock. Helped tie up given a guided tour of the facilities and left to settle in. The restaurant is first class, lobster, oysters gumbo, jumbalaya, crab cakes, I thought I was in New England. We are in the final stage of a trip from Rhode Island to St. Louis and this is one of the best places we have stayed.

Very nice spot on the waterway., 2012-09-23
Captain: , Erie, Pa. (1896)

Great spot. made room for us on the restautrant slip. Restaurant had good service and good food. The staff at the marina was very cordial and accomodating. Slip fee 1.50 ft. Entire facility very well kept and you can tell they care. Goof WIFI available at no charge.

Friendly marina, 2012-09-18
Captain: , Spring Lake, MI (379)

They took a reservation over the phone and helped guide us in. The transcient docks face the river and it is shallow. Only boats under 36 ft and take dock space perpendicular to the river and only go bow in. Otherwise it is under 3 ft. the fuel dock can take 40 to 50 ft. Don and staff were very friendly. The restaurant reflects seafood southern style.

OK for a quick stop, 2012-09-06
Captain: , Cape Coral FL (4187)

Tied up to a 50 rickity dock , got here in the evening. They made arrangements for us to arrive after they close. Nice folks, easy to deal with but I was dissapointed in the dock. It was safe but a but shaky. Price should be lower but we wanted to get through the Brandon Rd Lock. Did have twin 30amp power and water. SHALLOW at the dock though.

Beautiful Grounds, 2011-09-13
Captain: , Mesa AZ (1609)

Nice surprise after the locks and river tension. Don, Bob, Ron (owners) welcome you and lend the van for groceries.

Pleasant surprise, 2011-09-05
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (7374)

Marina not much to look at as you are going past, but that is only the old docks out front. New docks in back are all recent with concrete / brick walks, picnic tables. Pool very welcome, even in September. Didn't try the restaurant, but heard the Friday fish fry was great. Local crowd (car & boat) filled the place.

Nice Marina, 2011-08-31
Captain: , Austin, Texas (1774)

We arrived too early to stop in Joliet at the free wall, so we continued on and stayed at Harborside Marina. We were very surprised how nice it was. Skipper Bob says they do not take transients. That is not true. They have space for 3-4 boats of 40+ft. There is a pool and restauant on site and they are eager to please. $1.50 ft. No town or shopping, but still a nice marina.

Harborside, 2011-05-19
Captain: , Whitehall, Mi (1754)

Nice stop but a little isolated. They have an on site restaurant and all facilities. The in suite bathrooms are nice. The locals are friendly and helpful. I suspect many bypass it due to the free dock in Joliet.
